Thanks lol... it was around 2am when I typed up that readme, had to be up for work @ 4am... As soon as I get my daughter fed and settled down, I'll throw some screens up. Look for an update.zip either tonight or early in the morn.
Remember, it's the initial release, so it's going to be far from perfect, suggestions...suggestions...suggestions

So other than maybe a theme and a boot animation this is the same thing as 3 other ROMs in this section? Im not seeing anything new or exciting in this.
Sorry if this seems crass, but the redundancy on this site is becoming quite tiring.
By all means continue work on this and better your ROM skills, just letting people know if you're looking for something fresh, it is not here.

Looks like I'm gonna be stuck on this dream. Waiting for the screenshots.

It's pretty hard to interpet this as anything other than a slam. Truthfully there is not much new going on in the XDA everything does look the same, but lighten up.

True or not, if your not finding something new and fresh enough for your taste, then make it yourself.
Downloading now, thanks for the Rom.

^ Very true. There's absolutely no use in complaining about how all ROMs are the same. These devs work extremely hard on everything and we should be bowing at their freaking feet. If you want something new and different, make it yourself. Or better yet, flash back to stock and pretend custom ROMs don't exist, then you won't have to worry about redundancy.

+1

Lets not turn this thread into something a mod is going to shut down please.
As I said in the OP, whether you like the rom or not, make suggestions so I can improve it. You can read the features list and see that it is basically the same as other roms - I have a few other ideas that will be rolled out either tonight or tomorrow, as for others, I am hoping you guys will guide me as to what features you would like to see.
Remember guys, this is the initial release, basically just out of alpha stage - it's stable enough to run but it's basically stock. I promise it will get better. So lets get those suggestions coming.

It is in that spirit that I posted my comment, the comment was directed at you and I'm glad you used your brain when reading it. To all others, grow up, just text on the internet boys.

Downloading now, thank you for your hard work. I am always looking for new ROMs to flash!

someone please post screens

I would flash this ROM, but I'm currently stuck on MIUI as ODIN won't recognize my phone in download mode. Haha.

Update - 06/06/10 said:
It has come to my attention that the developer of SetCPU would like SetCPU removed from all ROMs by default, and instead have a link placed from the first post of the ROM thread to his thread here on XDA - where SetCPU can be downloaded either free of charge, or for $1.99 (donation). Until Rev8, I won't be revising this, but I am highly recommending that you consider donating to the developer of the application. You can do so by clicking here.
You can also check out the SetCPU thread by clicking here. It contains the newest version of SetCPU.
I'm terribly sorry for this mishap and will no longer include SetCPU by default.
I would also like to point out that the reason SetCPU is in /system/app in ZenEXP-Eris isn't to stop users from donating to the developer, but because I had issues with it being pushed from /data/app to /system/sd/app - when A2SD is activated - during beta testing where it would FC randomly. Moving it solved the issue for now. Installing SetCPU from your memory card or the market will result in it being properly placed and cached in your phone and the issue shouldn't present itself.

Recent apps in notification dropdown
Enhanced Browser with quicklookup and text selector bars(Like the Legend)
Set number of home screens in rosie (5 or 7)
..and loads of other things that didn't make the list
What's Broken in ZenEXP Rev7:
Trackball LED. LED notifications work, they're mapped to the charging/battery LED for now.
"Mobile Network Options" FC's. It's not built to work on a CDMA device, thus the FC.
Gmail doesn't always sync automatically. Manually syncing works just fine.
After taking a picture in the stock Camera app, if you select the button to send it to someone, you will get an
instant FC. This camera app is from another ROM, Zippy is working on getting the stock app to work with this and,
hopefully, it will be included in the future.
Added:
Astro File Explorer (com.metago.astro.apk)
Spare Parts removable through Astro
Google Maps v4.2 (upgraded from v4.0) removable through Astro
XDA-Developers by TapaTalk v1.0 (xdadevelopers.apk) removable through Astro
Wireless Tethering removable through Astro
SetCPU
Any of the apps above can be removed with Astro, except Astro itself and SetCPU. You'll need another file explorer or adb to remove Astro, since it can't remove itself, and SetCPU is install as a System App
Warnings:
Code:
During your first boot-up of this ROM you will be presented with the option to choose
what you like to do with your phone, including:
[LIST]
[*]Always checking my social networks
[*]Viewing recent photos
[*]Keeping up with my schedule
[*]Checking my mail
[/LIST]
[U]Do not[/U] select any of these four buttons as
they seem to cause issues, specifically with Gmail. [I]Selecting them doesn't place
widgets on the home screen as they would on the MyTouch 3G Slide[/I]
Code:
Some applications may FC --ONE TIME-- after applying a new myModes theme.
This should only happen to applications that myModes applies it's theme to, but it will
only happen the first time after installing/applying a new myModes theme.

Very Important Info Regarding Overclocking & SetCPU
zanfur said:
SetCPU doesn't actually set parameters until you make a change, and it will default to min/max at 19.2/864, which is clearly going to crash on every Eris we've tried. When you flash this, be sure to do the following, or it's your own darn fault if you get stuck in a reboot loop!
Select "Autodetect" on the device selection screen
Make sure that SetCPU is not set to start at boot, until you know you've found settings that won't freeze your phone on boot.
Make sure that the first thing you set is to move the max down to a value you know is stable. If it's your first time, set it to 528 and increment up from there.
The "performance" governor is like "always use the highest frequency of the range". It's useful for testing.
A number of people have asked what my SetCPU profiles look like. They look like this:
Default: 480/768 (I have it clock down to 480 instead of 528 because 480 actually uses a lower voltage.)
Standby: 160/245 (I like battery life. It takes a while to show me who's calling, though, when it rings while in standby.)
Failsafe: 40C/245/245 (40 degrees is probably too hot. I want to stop it before it melts, which would be around 50 degrees.)
If you don't want to overclock your Eris but still want to use this ROM, simply uninstall SetCPU with Astro or, if you haven't run it yet, don't run SetCPU.

How to install ZenEXP-Eris
Reboot into Recovery
Perform a Nandroid Backup
Wipe Data/Factory Reset/Dalvik Cache
Flash ROM
Please be patient, it takes a few minutes to boot for the first time
Allow the phone to boot up for 2-3 minutes before having at it, it's
much faster this way
MMS Fix is built-in, do not flash any MMS fixes!
NOTE: If you plan to use A2SD, you need to create the appropriate partition on your SD card. I recommend: Swap: 0MB, EXT2: 512 or 1024MB. Once you've partitioned, it is highly recommended that you convert your EXT2 partition to EXT3 in Recovery. EXT4 is not supported in ZenEXP-Eris. Also note that creating a partition will wipe your entire card, so please back it up to your computer in advance.
Download ZenEXP-Eris Rev7OD
Wiping data/dalvik/ext is required

Download Rev8-Beta1
NOTE: I don't have an Eris, so I make no guarantees with this build! Make sure you nandroid backup prior to flashing, just in case!
The Rev8 Beta is up in the Beta Testers Lounge!
Feel free to join, but expect issues and be prepared to use ADB to logcat EVERYTHING so I can fix it.
Changes from Rev7 (so far);
First-boot-setup isn't customized yet
Based on ZenEXP 0.9.7
Deodexed
Gmail Push Fixed
Added True Sprint 6 Signal Bars
SuperUser 2.3.3 by chainsdd
Flash 10.1 for Sense
New Kernel running @ 710 mhz with custom ramdisk (fixes touchscreen lag and wifi tether issues)(default set to ondemand)
Removed More T-Mobile Branding
New DarkTremor a2sd method (Ours is a custom version)
Jit within Sense Optional
Fixed Camera App
Fixed myMode Theme FC’s
Zipalign of system/app on first boot
Zipalign of data/app on boot
Landscape Rosie Removed
Known Issues:
SMS Messages are limited to 160 char. (You can use Handcent and choose the option to split 160 for a temp fix)
Mobile Network settings will Force Close (This is a GSM rom from T-Mobile it does not have the CDMA Settings for Sprint)
There is no PRI or PRL Updates (Again a GSM Rom does not support this)
Contacts Widget will force close (This Rom had faves not a people widget)(This widget must remain for friendstream to work)
Get More Widgets Not Working
Landscape Rosie has been removed for the time being (Might be back in later)
myMode Themes will reboot the phone once applied (this is normal for our devices)
This is a VERY preliminary release. I haven't applied any visual customizations to this build yet, I've simply ported it over and patched a few background processes to work for the Verizon network. Once I know what works and what's broken, I will move forward with customizations. This is an ALPHA/BETA build! expect issues and please report them back asap!

If HTC Sync isn't working properly for you, and it probably isn't, please use the guide and files included below to complete the installation and sync.
For the record, I haven't always had to do this. I was able to install and sync as-normal when using Vista on my old laptop (with the exception of having to disable Avast! during sync's) and even when I first got my laptop and had a stock Eris w/ 1.5. That all changed when I started using this ROM.
Although it'd be pretty damned hard to mess this up, please remember that you, and only you, are responsible for your actions and the end result(s) when using my guide and the files below.

NOTE: You should always check your Windows Task Manager -> Processes panel and make sure adb.exe isn't running. If it is, select it and click "End Process" and you'll be good to go.

1. Save anything you have open and close it
2. Uninstall HTC Sync
3. Start > Run > type: msconfig
4. Go to the services tab, tick the "hide all Microsoft programs" box (at the bottom of the msconfig window)
(This is very important to click on hide all Microsoft services first or computer issues can occur - be sure to tick this box)
5. Now once that is ticked, click on disable all (Microsoft services are hidden as you ticked the box so they will not be disabled now, it's important that microsoft services don't get disabled, so make SURE you ticked the box as described above)
6. Go to the startup Tab, click on disable all
7. Click Apply, then click Restart Now when prompted
8. The PC will restart with only essential Microsoft programs running
9. Click on do not show this again, if prompted
10. Install HTC Sync (use the file I've included here, it includes the correct driver and HTC Sync version!)
11. Plug in your Eris
12. Your Eris should notify you that you're in Disk Mode (assuming you haven't changed the default, otherwise it could be set to Sync mode or Charge Only mode by default)
13. Slide your notifications drawer down on your Eris and select Disk Mode (again, assuming you haven't changed it, otherwise it will say Sync or Charge Only mode)
14. Once prompted, select Sync and click Done
15. Wait a moment and wait for your computer to find your Eris, setup your Eris in the wizard and enjoy!
Once you've completed the above and sync'd your Eris for the first time, you need to do the following:
1. Start > Run> Type: msconfig
2. Go to the services tab, tick that "hide Microsoft services" box again, then click on "enable all"
3. Go to the startup tab, click on "enable all" (You may choose to leave any unchecked that are slowing your computer down, please check google to see what you can and can't disable here)
4. Click Apply, then click Restart Now when prompted
5. Once your PC reboots, plug your Eris back in and try to Sync, does it work? If not, disable your firewall(s)/AntiVirus and try again. I have Avast! and I have to "disable all shields for 10 minutes" before syncing in order for it to work, most likely you will have to as well.
This is the ZenEXP-Eris FAQ section.
Please read through them all before posting for help as your issue is probably covered below.
UPDATE: If you haven't read this FAQ and/or you're asking for help with something that's already been covered here, your plea will be ignored.
I'm sorry to have to do this, but I need to spend more time perfecting the build for Rev8 and less time explaining the same things over and over again.

Q: Why aren't my softkeys and hardkeys lighting up?
A: The softkeys and hardkeys only light up in dark areas. Try covering the light sensor (top left portion of the Eris, to the left of the ear speaker) to see them light up in a well-lit area.

Q: A2SD isn't working, what's going on?
A: Did you partition your SD card in Recovery (Volume Up + Power on, while the phone is off, will bring you into Recovery. From there, you'll see the option to partition). I recommend the following for Eris users; Swap:0MB, EXT2:512MB or 1024MB, once you've created your partition head to the main menu of Recovery -> Other -> EXT2 to EXT3. I don't recommend EXT4, but you're welcome to try it.

Q: My phone seems slow now that I installed your ROM, what gives?
A: Is this your first boot, or did you just boot up your phone? The fact is that your first boot will always take longer than any subsequent boot, and each time you boot up your phone it will take a moment for things to load.
I also recommend giving the phone 2-3 minutes to fully load each time you boot it up, unless you absolutely need to use it right away. When doing this, my phone running ZenEXP-Eris flies, and that's without overclocking.

Q: Do I have to wipe anything to upgrade or can I just flash <newest build> over <older build>?

/system/bin/profile
Protects against an exploit that all pre-gingerbread phones are vulnerable to.
http://www.androidpolice.com
We should point out that this vulnerability was patched with Gingerbread, meaning any device running Android 2.3+ should be fine. In other words, if you’re looking to play the blame game (which I’m not, but having read all the comments on the original post, many people are), then there’s plenty to go around. The hole was fixed by Google, but it’s relatively useless since many phones aren’t yet running a version of Android that is protected. It’s noteworthy that some manufacturers released updates that patched the exploit for devices without updating to Gingerbread; unfortunately, it appears that minority is quite a small one.
Perhaps most important is the question of what infected users can do about their situation, but it seems the answer is "not much of anything." Because the virus opens up a backdoor and can bring in new code at any time, the only way to really rid an infected device of any damage is to completely wipe it – not exactly the optimal solution, but it looks like the only one available, at least for now.
EDIT: After some dexing and jaxing, the apps seem to be at least posting the IMEI and IMSI codes to http://184.105.245.17:8080/GMServer/GMServlet, which seems to be located in Fremont, CA.

Check with your rom devs, they may have this patch implemented already. If you are there will already be a blank "profile" file in /system/bin/ (blank as in 0kb) set to rw-r-r. The presence of this file is not a definitive answer, find out for sure. You need to know if your dev put it there or if it's from being infected.

Just to clarify,
I have a couple of these apps installed.
If I flash the .zip does it fix the vulnerability?
Do I need to uninstall the apps as well?
According to what I've read the only fix if your already infected is to flash stock and start from scratch. The exploit can download new code. I'm no expert, I just made the zip to share it on our forum.
P.s. It was sexy legs wasnt it? Tell us the truth!

If you have a file explorer with root access you can browse to /system/bin, if there is already a file there named "profile"(prior to installing this zip) you might already infected.
Edit: Possible that your rom dev may have already included this patch. Check with them first.
Yup, its there.....
Back to stock I go...
Thanks for the heads up!
Just make sure you either create this file there on your own with the right permisions rw-r-r or install this zip before you start reloading apps.
So I have the profile thing in /system/bin, so this means I have an infection?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA Premium App
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought the Dev's were including this fix in their roms?
So if your running a non-stock rom, you may already be protected and have that file.
Very possible that some devs have this included. Check with them. I run andromeda most of the time and it did not have it. Actually a good thing you brought that up, best to ask them before deciding you are actually infected. Might save some flashes.
That or look inside the zip for your rom in the /system/bin folder, if its there odds are they added it.
Yeah, also mine shows 0.0kb size so it would be empty already correct?

The fix places a dummy file in that directory. So you may be protected..........

I updated the first post. Im sure there would have been a decent hunk of people thinking they were infected when they were not. Still a very good idea to make sure your 100% sure you are protected. This isnt some little worthless virus, it has the potential to be very bad.

Yes, but how can we be sure that your "one blank file" doesn't contain any exploits ?
But seriously, just to understand, as long as we add a file named /system/bin/profile then the exploit can't work ?
I'm running the latest version of Cog and I don't see this file in there. I would suggest all Cog users run this patch because I don't think DG has it patched.

well because it's blank lol. But yes to the best of my knowledge, for any app that you already have. Since the fix they could have already created a different method. Only real way to avoid a virus is to use your better judgment when installing apps. There is currently no patch for lack of better judgment.
So you said Gingerbread roms SHOULD BE okay? I am on CM7 and decided to check and didn't have a system/bin/profile in there. Should I add it anyways? Or is that roms with the fix may ha e it fixed differently or somewhere else in the rom? Now to check my other cappy's for the file also.
So if I am understanding this correctly, if it IS there but has 0.0bytes then most likely already patched, if it IS there and NOT BLANK (like has some data inside) then probably infected?

CM7 & CM9 Unofficial builds with cherries

I have been sharing my CM7 builds for some time in the kangaroo thread. But I decided to start my own thread in which I will share the KANG/UNOFFICIAL builds I make. In principle, I will always have the most recent sources with a range of cherry-picks. These cherry-picks are the ones I like.
About Cyanogen: CyanogenMod is a free, community built, aftermarket firmware distribution of Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich), which is designed to increase performance and reliability over stock Android for your device.
Disclaimer: I am not responsible for bricked devices, dead SD cards, thermonuclear war, or you getting fired because the alarm app failed. Please do some research if you have any concerns about features included in this ROM before flashing it! YOU are choosing to make these modifications, and if you point the finger at me for messing up your device, I will laugh at you.
If you run into errors, I will probably not be able to solve it!
If you know a solution, either upload it yourself to Gerrit Code Review or contact me through pm.

I have always used Cyanogenmod 7 both on my old HD2 and now with my Galaxy S which is awesome...
Thnx for taking this project up and keeping with the nightlies. I seldom use the nightlies instead use an old kanga version and works great. I think it is 7.2.0RC0 which I think was the latest and greatest...
Nice.
I like KANG. (CM7)

hey kasper!
first of all, thx for continueing building your kangs!
now i have a (maybe dumb) question: your kangs til the latest have still RC1 in the name. for official cm a RC3 came out some days ago. but as you build your kangs with updated source (+cherry picks, of course), the RC1 in the name is irrelevant, is that right?
i hope you understand my question, my english is not so good...

Hi kasper_h,
Thanks for your builds with cherries and taking up where nrg left off!
I saw these changes not too long ago for the Galaxy Tab to add SmartassV2 governor. Is there any way that you can compile a build with SmartassV2 added? Wasn't sure it was possible, but I love that governor, and I think that would make CM9 perfect for me
http://review.cyanogenmod.com/#/c/16247/
http://review.cyanogenmod.com/#/c/16247/1/drivers/cpufreq/cpufreq_smartass2.c
Reading more into the commit notes, it looks like it wasn't merged because the CM team believes that SmartassV2 performs like Interactive. I've read other articles that say that Interactive stays at one frequency where as Smartass uses all frequencies and is actually pretty battery friendly. If it's not possible, no worries, I know I can always use another kernel. Thanks again!
Interesting challenge, never done something like that. Will give it a try to see whether I get it to build with SmartAssV2
But it may take a few days, now preparing a few day leave

*MY BOEFFLA SAMSUNG ONDEMAND PROFILE ON POST 2!!!!
Prologue & Intent
I have used AOSP/CM based roms exclusively since owning Android handsets, there are many benefits to this, especially on handsets that manufacturers simply abandon and leave in a poor state, this is thankfully not the case on our trusty Galaxy S3!
However, one of the bugbears of being in the alpha/beta test world that is CM/AOSP etc, its the many teething bugs that can hamper your usage of the device and to make things more irritating, the S3 has plenty of hardware revisions and proprietary software that makes obtaining a truly perfect experience tricky for the developer and the user to achieve!
For these reasons, like me, you might have decided to return to Samsung stock rom or one of the the excellent refined versions of stock by the likes of @_Sale_ or @qaraqumus (NeatRom 4.3 & QS 4.4.2 N7100 Port).
When you return, you are greeted by missing features, but also greeted with excellent camera, depending on your view more polished stock applications that you can keep or get rid of according to taste. Of course, the main thing you will start to experience is STABILITY and its quite addictive!
So this guide is work in progress, I only returned to stock based roms 3 weeks ago, I really wanted a good stable camera and I was to be fair a bit bored of being a nightlie flashaholic! If you have useful information that can be verified as useful then please contribute and lets help others realise that stock is not a dirty word!
I find that all of the missing features from customs roms can be replicated and there is no reason to think that you will be de-featured by returning to stock, nor are any of these things laborious or complicated!
How to get the missing features back that you loved in custom roms!
So you have gone back to stock!
a) You are enjoying the stability and you probably love having the stock camera back! Oooh, perfect burst mode and video record pause! yum yum!
b) You are sad, you miss quick panels, you miss pie, you hate the annoying battery alerts and camera low functionality on low battery power!
These are the sort of things I felt I could not live without, so with help from my XDA friends, I have found answers to all the stuff I wanted back! If there is is something missing that you want back, ask on this thread and lets see if we can discover more together!
1) How to get back functionality like no low battery alerts, using your camera properly when on low power, browser exit, system tweaks, battery icon location and style, quick settings layout, sound behavior, long back kill, etc etc!
1. Install Xposed Framework, go here and follow instructions: http://forum.xda-developers.com/xposed/xposed-installer-versions-changelog-t2714053
2. Install the most excellent apps you will ever install on your custom rom, Wanam Xposed, now you can configure everything I mention and more! : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ma.wanam.xposed&hl=en_GB
3.. Optional install Gravity Box for Xposed, for enabling a few features not included in the more compatible Wanam! Such as full screen lockscreen widgets and some additional hardware key functionality! Be careful ensure that you mirror any similar settings between Wanam and Gravity Box to ensure you have not cross fighting! [/url]
4. Boot Manager - Highlights what apps boot with your phone and allows you to stop them doing so!
5. Flat Style Bar Indicators - Lets you pick some nice looking wifi/mobile indicators for your status bar
6) Recent App Cleaner - Cleans out my recent apps when I turn my screen off and allows you to select apps that you want to keep open as well
7) Xad - Works like Adaway, stopping adverts where it can, its better than adaway as well
8) Xposed Additions - Allow excellent re-mapping of your hardware buttons!
9) XuiMod - Only use this change the system transitions when opening and closing apps, really nice
10) YouTube Adaway - Removes ads and suggestion pop ups in YouTube
11) Start feeling really happy about returning to stock!
How to stop battery drain!
Ok, this is annoying, but it is easy to sort out! there are some basics to observe and then some extra things you can do as well! Everything can be done safely and be reversable so you may experiment freely! Of course, it's a great idea to do a nandroid backup in case you make a mess of things, but if you follow this guide you will be fine and happy!
i) Get Greenify from the Playstore, run it, follow the instructions and limit the apps from waking your device up! On 4.3 roms I find it very useful, however on 4.4.2 I find it a lot less useful, in fact I don't use it at all on QS and I find that xposed Recent App Cleaner performs a better job. However for 4.3 users, stuff like Facebook etc will wake your phone up until the cows come home, but do not greenify apps that you want to be able to deliver on demand messages, like Whatsapp etc, obvious? UPDATE - If you are Pro user then use the Hibernate and Lock Feature to ensure your phone goes to sleep nicely!!!https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.oasisfeng.greenify&hl=en_GB
ii) Instal betterybatterystats, follow the xda thread to understand more about what you are doing and you will soon know which naughty apps that are waking up your device! You can then install apps such as Titanium Backup and freeze those apps, so that they no longer run and no longer drain your battery. If you decide you want an app back, then unfreeze it! It is as safe as that! https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.keramidas.TitaniumBackup&hl=en_GB
iii) Tryout Recent App Cleaner for ensuring apps a killed when your screen is off, seems to work better on QS/4.4.2 roms than greenify, read my post here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=58086117&postcount=112
Alternatively use RootAppDelete, i prefer this app, you simply click on system app, choose junior mode (pro mode will delete the app, which is fine if you know for sure you want an app gone forever! or at least untill you next flash an update rom back to your device, disabling is the safer and easier option!) which will then only freeze the apps (just like titanium) and you then tap the offending app and allow it to disable it. If you want one back, then tap the disabled icon and tap the app you want to bring back to life! https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=zsj.android.systemappremover&hl=en_GB
What system apps should I get rid of?
This depends on your usage and which revision of android/rom you are using, but for me all of the below were pointless battery draining ram using wastes of space or apps that have a better alternative that are more system resource friendly! If you are unsure, google search the name of the app and you will find results explaining what they were doing within the first page of results, i did!:
NOTE: Please make sure you research each app/service to ensure that your application will not be affected by freezing of any of the below, you can do this in google search or if you use Root App Delete you can press the info button to get an instant google search result!

Custom kernel sir?
Your stock kernel is good! Remember that!
The custom kernels are better if only if you have to have some of the features, like a desperate need to under or overclock your device, change led behavior and so fourth!
There are many to choose from and you will find them easily enough, I am sure you know of them! I use Boeffla and I have a stable gently overclocked profile you can get from my signature if you want an easy ride with great OC performance, stability and great battery results!
However, it's always best to stay on stock kernel whilst you make your system stable, once it is, then is the time to play with your kernel! I won't and nor will most other users want to help you if you don't follow that simple rule!

Chronus - Get the good old lockscreen weather and calendar widget that features in most AOSP roms, just make sure you select the Chronus Flex widget when you pick your lockscreen widget, that's the one you'll be after! https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dvtonder.chronus&hl=en
Yet another screen brigtness app - Sick of Samsung's lame auto brightness feature locking to full brightness and requiring a phone reboot? Or annoyed it won't let you tailor the service the way you want? Well, install this and be very happy! https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=biz.gyrus.yaab&hl=en
Bored of Touchwiz and in general all of the samey samey swipey swipey launchers out there? Try Smart Launcher 2! I have not looked back since, perfect experience for your phone, just be willing to play with it for half an hour and I'm sure many of you will appreciate it's overall simplicity! Of and freeze touchwiz afterwards and save yourself a nice chunk of RAM! https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ginlemon.flowerfree&hl=en
Trouble shooting
Correct Wiping procedure:
Forgot the correct procedure for wiping your phone when making a switch between rom variants? Just so you do know, when moving from Android revisions or even within the same android build number (i.e. 4.2.2 / 4.3 / 4.31 / 4.4.4 etc) IT IS IMPERATIVE that you Factory Wipe Data, Cache, Davlik and format System! Failure to do so can lead to odd performance or nasty bootloops! Thanks to @andrewwright for reminding me to remind you!
NOTES
I have not developed any of the apps or mods or guides that are linked to this guide, please pay respect to their respective authors and contributors directly on their forum threads.
I will endeavor to update this guide with new things I discover and learn from peoples contributions on this thread.
You always take responsibility for your device! The easy way to protect yourself is make a nandroid backup, back up your apps using titanium backup, freeze or disable your apps rather than uninstall them, don't do anything suggested on this thread unless you are either competent or willing to learn as you make mistakes!

When flashing roms:
To stop the likes of bootloop when swapping between aosp and custom tw sammy roms remember to format data and system in recovery FIRST then flash rom/gapps. factory reset isnt enough imo for a clean install. When returning with an odin flash if you have a bootloop go into recovery and "factory reset" and reboot the phone.
I see so many threads started about these bootloop problems when swapping between aosp and tw its a good idea to have this here imo.
Also for the total noobs out there...PIT FILES are a LAST resort! Dont mess with these till you understand what there for. If you still dont understand after reading about pit files....ASK SOMEONE. Dont just flash and hope for the best.
Great idea and a good guide.

I'll add a trouble shooting section and incorporate this, thanks for contributing!
I forgot that some people don't always know the mega basics!
And God, I hope people don't use pit files on this device! I made custom pit files for the s2, but that device needed them! I have threads for that work, but yes no need for people to play with that on our trusty phone!

I think gravitybox has more features than wanam. Like double tap notification bar to sleep.
probably you should include gravitybox modules. I'm using it. On archidroid.

Indeed, I use Gravity box also, I need a bit of both to get the system functionality I desire.
I will be updating the OP for Gravity box shortly, there are a few things to be cautious of according to some user reports, so I need to put a disclaimer to it. Cheers for contributing :good:

yeah. GB is not meant for samsung touchwhiz. wanam is designed for touchwhiz.
so far i dont have any issue.
the reason why i use GB is because
-double tap status bar to lock screen
-status bar icon can be changed to kitkat icons
-ram bar available for recents apps
if only wanam have these features then i would go for wanam.
currently having greenify and gravitybox in my xposed module.

It's very hard to differentiate between archi and neat, both as good as each other!
Mixing both modules no issues, but obviously make sure your settings between the two don't conflict otherwise you could have issues.

Give the profile a try and find out. I find ondemand the most balanced performing governor, offering both performance and battery saving potential. However, upon my using my v3 profile for s couple of days, I have chose to alter my setting of swappiness from 60 to 40 and have altered the zram down to 160mb. The balancing of the profile is getting close to perfect and I hope to release a final version by next weekend!
Let me know how you get on if you choose to try
