Enable swap partition:Swapper2. - GT540 Optimus General

Firstly i would like to say i prefer swap partition rather than .swp file created by Swapper2 as its highly unstable for me.
After searching the forum for many days and of course Google I was left with no answers and many errors, but today i accidentally found this while performing numerous try-errors methods.
My cards divided into 3 parts Fat32,ext3,swap(order is important)
After installing Swapper2 from market i directed it to use my swap partition via advanced settings.
The swap default path i.e "/dev/block/mmcblk0p3" gave errors like 'No such directory exists"
So i set it to "/dev/block/vold/179:3"(3-third partition)
then set swapper to start at start-up ,boot into recovery, fix permissions(don't skip this),reboot system.
and Viola swap partition was mounted!
To check swap, type free in terminal.
Thought this would help someone.

easy. pls upgrade from m6 to rc1 or rc2 then the swap will enable automatically(there is a command in the rom no settings needed) to check use terminal emulator, in the terminal type "free" and all the swap mem and stuff will pop out

Thanx for the reply bro .. Also .. As you advised, I upgraded to RC1.
So i want to get the following doubts clear,
> Now that i have upgraded to RC1, do i need to install Swapper2 ?
> Will just partitioning my card as fat32/swap work ?
> Do need to do anything to make the swap partition to work ?
> If the TERMINAL shows up SWAP space, does it mean that the SWAP space is working ? .....

best is to backup sdcard stuff on computer and then remove all partitions. then go to recovery, partition sdcard, choose size and swap size. powerdown phone put stuff back in sdcard, reboot, in terminal type free and you should see
-----total--------used-----free
swap:XXXXXX--- XXXXX---XXXXXX
well the XXXXX is different from phone to phone and there should be numbers

.swp method is a bit unstable as you require to unmount swap before you connect usb.....also the swap file. Swp gets mounted after your cell starts while swap partition is mounted during boot itself which is more convenient and fast.

> Now that i have upgraded to RC1, do i need to install Swapper2 ?
No you wont require swapper unless you want to change swappiness.....which is set to 30 default in RC1 ......i prefer 10.

Yes it would.

No it would load/mount itself during boot.

Substitute 179:3 by 179:2 as your 2 nd partition is swap.

What does swappiness mean is greater better?
Greater number = more swap memory
Can someone explain and tell me the file to edit in cm7 to set swappiness
Sent from my GT540 using Tapatalk

Edit file in text editor. ....path system/etc/init.d/07swapon.
By default it is set to 30/60 in rc1/rc2 respectively.
Swapiness 10 is stable for me.
And yes greater the number more it swaps.

Thank you for sharing this.
I did just as you said, but it keeps on telling me that "invalid argument",
however, it also said that "enabling swap partition OK" and "formating swap partition OK".
So.....did I make it?
or I failed?
and what is "boot into recovery, fix permissions"?
I use ROM Manager and flash Clockword Mod Recovery, I can't see where to fix permission?

[Q] A2SD on Gingerbread ROM

Hey, I hope I may ask here too, to reach more People .
I've heard much about A2SD+. But most of the time it says only for FroYo, some say you can implement it to Gingerbread too, others say the ROM must already have it.
So I use Gingerbread ROM Oxygen RC 7 .
Is it possible to enable A2SD+ here? If so, how?

[Q] General Kothas questions about LG GT540

Hello again,
I see that it's riridiculous to make a lot of topics, so I will post all my questions in this thread. So let's start :
1. I want to update to 2.3 or atleast 2.2 ROM. I wanted to use Cyanogen mod, but in http://www.cyanogenmod.com/devices I can't see my phone. What should I do? If you know please write link.
2. How to install ROM with Fastboot or Recovery or something like that? Also please write guide link.
3. Why I can't root my phone with this guide http://android.modaco.com/content/lg-gt540-optimus-gt540-modaco-com/310737/how-to-root-your-lg-gt540/?
In Stability Test menu I can't find chose for "Enable Root Permission".
4. Is there any way to move Apps to SD without ROOT and updating to newer than 2.1 version?
I think that enough. What who will help me, I will be thanks forever!!!
Hello,
1. Our phone is not supported entirely by cyanogenmod so what developers do is port it to our phone but still not all the options work, but most of them does.If you are not informed some a user has created a petition to cyanogenmod wich all the people that has LG GT540 should sign.
What we ask?
That CM officially support the phone and develop official CM roms for the handset.
Offical Cyanogenmod Support Petition
2. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=12770991#post12770991
3. if you have stock 2.1 use Z4root, all the custom versions are coming rooted already, so you dont have to worry about that anymore.
4. With 2.1 you can but you must partition your sdcard with a partition tool software, i use EASEUS Partition Master-Home Edition its free also in 2.1 you can use link2sd app for that purpose or app2sd script. I personaly use link2sd it works fine for me.
Now with 2.2+ versions that has cyanogenmod option you can move apps2sd with an option in Applications setting:
First: thick Allow application moving
Second: in Install Location pick External
Or you can install an application from market called App2SD is free and you can manage all your applications from there.
THANKS ARE WELCOMED
THANKS! THANKS! THANKS!
Also, could you write more how to partion my sd and move apps to it? Do you have any guide for this or something like that?
Sorry for double post. So I can move apps to sd with doing something with sd and link2sd app? Could you post guide for these things?
Before anything i will recommend you the 2.2 ROM superfast froyo im using it, and has been great so far. Follow my guide and flash the fastboot version for CLEAN INSTALL. Tomorrow the guy that made it is supose to post an update, so better way until tomorrow.
Once you have the ROM flashed use the App2SD application from market for move your applications. NO need to partition your sdcard.
Ok if want to keep in 2.1 version then link2sd is for you
1. first download EASEUS Partition Master Home Edition
2. Once installed plug your phone to the computer, wait until it be recognized
3. Open EASEUS "run as Administrator" (if windows7 user) and you will see the software recognized your SDcard (you can figure for the size of your sdcard)
4. Right clic on the partition and select Resize/Move
5. Resize from right to left until you see in Unallocated Space After 512 MB or close (510 is enough) . Clic OK
6. Now that you have a new partition, right clic, select Resize/Move and do the same process again for create a new partition of 32 MB (that is for Swap). What is swap? its like a second memory. Clic OK
7. Now select each partition, right clic and select FORMAT:
* 1st partition >> FAT32 format
* 2nd partition >> Ext2/FAT32 format (pick one i use Ext2)
* 3rd partition >> do not format (use SWAPPER 2 app from market to activate it)
ALL 3 PARTITIONS MUST BE PRIMARY NOT LOGICAL
Thanks
(Message too short)
But Swapper write's it need's root permission.

[Q] Sd-ext NOT visible in CWM, how to backup & restore sd-ext?

Hello guys,
I try level best to find the solutions to the problems on my own, but at times like this i have no way other than to bother you.
Here's the problem:
Cannot see the sd-ext partition in the CWM recovery.
Do not get the backup of my sd-ext partition after making backup of the device.
'Restore sd-ext' IS available in 'Advanced Restore' options, but when to use since there's no backup being made.
and so every other problem which may arrive due to this.
Details:
Rom: Jellyblast3.0.4
Kernel: RepencisV7 Final
CWM tried: cwm-madteam-galaxY.zip, CWM_bla_bla.zip, CWMv5-Skin1980-GT-S5360.zip
Everything is in native rfs format
sd-ext is formatted with ext2
Using A2sd by Darktremor
sd-ext IS mounted and working fine(screenshots)
No additional tweaks by me.
Only ten scripts in init.d(attached)
CWM Error Report: ...backing up cache..sd-ext not found..
skipping backup of sd-ext. Creating md5 sum..backup complete. (log attached)
Please let me know..
if any other data/detail is required.
I don't know what's the cause of this problem, though i feel like it might be something related to the kernel.
And also since its Repencis kernel i don't have any clear idea about whom to approach!
And thus made an individual thread for this peculiar problem.
Hopefully, looking forward to find a solution to this problem.

Thankyou sir for your kind interest, but i have used that CWM also.
And talking about kernel sir, i would first prefer to solve this problem then think of opting to 'alternative' solutions.
Because i prefer full a2sd support, i settled with this kernel after testing many.
The only kernel that supports backup of ext is whitesxp kernel
Flash this kernel and the perm cwm included with it will support backup of ext partition although creating a nandriod backup is much slower than with other kernels

Hello marcussmith2626,
I once also tried Merruk kernel and it also used to make the backup of sd-ext when making backup of the device.
In fact. . .its a common thing.
Whenever backups are being made, if sd-ext is present then its backup is automatically made by CWM.
The problem is, in my case its not happening like that.
And about WhiteXP's kernel..
do it support a2sd?
I did try this kernel too. . .but didn't use it for long..since appeared as if it was draining my battery fast.

Use whitexp's kernel and your ext partition should be ext3 . I noticed that Ext3 format is the only format which supported backing up and restoring sd-ext partition successfully. That's my experience . You may like to try.

Thats Great to Hear , Enjoy the Arc !
Well, I have done it quite similar that you did.
I only didn't use doom kernel for partitioning sd card.
My class 10 8gb has second partition of 1gb ext3, that is enough for my use.
In lupus menu through TE I have CACHE 1024. Don't know what is your value... ?!?
Now I have installed around 40 apps. most of them i have greenefied.
I experience modest lag.
Before I had 3 times the same configuration and tested performance on around 80 apps. There was heavy lag. Even When I uninstalled most of apps.
I always format everything. I have 3 peaces of 8gb SD cards that have myself tested R/W speeds around 20/12 mb/s.
I formatted them 7/1 and 6/2 ... doesn't matter.
Now I experience lag, when using internet browser and someone calls me, or if I want to make call... when using numpad, there is lag. I also have to wait to respond to call.
So my arc s is not even close to speed monster.
After all that you have written, you didn+t mention nothing about tweaking cpu speed...
On my last flash and install I haven't tweaked cpu, cause I experienced heat on the back side of phone and no noticeable advance in speed.
Greg
Lupus Kernel allows OverClocking!!.... 1.6 Ghz with Intellidemand or Interactive will do for normal Use !!
Now I'm flashing again... this time with 32gb SD class 10 with max speeds of around 36mb/s-17mb/s, r-w. I formatedit 27,5gb fat32 / 2 gb ext3.
still don't know if 1024 should be max cache value for ext3... in lupus through terminal emulator...

I love UHD with Lupus 16, it very fast
Xperia T ICS with ktg kernel is very good.
Go try. Ty!
I'm totaly lost in all this, I'm new and it's hard for me to understand all this stuff.
I have Arc S LT18i, Android 4.0.4, rooted, but dont know how to do all this.

to install custom kernels you need to unlock your bootloader (can do it officially from sony)
http://developer.sonymobile.com/unlockbootloader/unlock-yourboot-loader/
after this its need to install kernale manually via cmd OR flashtool, there plenty of tutorials in ARC forum how to do this
good luck !

you can enter recovery (kernel menu) via:
reboot menu --> reboot device --> rboot to recovery (need be activated 1st in dev settings "show more reboot options")
or press CONTINUESLY volume down on very 1st boot screen (legacy xperia)
good luck!
Instead of flashing the Doom kernel to partition the SD card, or using Minitool, is it possible to partition it on a computer using gparted? Also, is the LUPUS kernal flashed using fastboot, or can it be flashed in CWM?

not used this rom but im guessing you would have to decompile SystemUI.apk and either make changes to the pngs (resize them although this may make the pngs too big in other layouts if they use the same ones) or make changes to the xml layout regarding this panel - eg change the dpi of the area of layout to make it bigger
you will have to play around with the pngs or the layout xml of this panel (names will vary but by opening the correct xml you will see what its about)
default setting
so recently installed this rom. And it's a pleasure. The rom looks great and works incredibly well. I started tweaking things here and there and i think i accidentally tweaked some things from the "Performance Setting". I kind of get some weird results and i just want to go back to the default setting. so can you tell me the default setting there? )) Thanks a lot. )
Do you have update for S5 reincarnation rom? Because the lockscreen and security is not working. Please Help

The double sms is due to the popup sms service... Find and Uninstall it from the system or freeze the message popup using titanium bkp.

I presume you want to format sd-ext in cwm
You need a cwm that supports this - the CWM in whitexp kernel for example does and cwm6 for cm11 does
If it shows mount sd-ext in the mounts & storage section then you can mount & format that partition
Else you could use Link2sd app to format this

Swipe to the right to bring up menu
Select clear up 2nd partition
Anything that is not currently linked with link2sd should be deleted eg if you just flashed a new rom nothing will be linked so it should remove everything
