The way to unroot and return to 100% stock
http://www.akaskriller.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=48&t=1115
(don't believe this works for the "gfree method", there is another step you must take i believe to get s=on with that.)
So sounds super simple right? Put a file on your SD card, reboot into hboot and tell it to restore to stock?
But you get....
Loading ... [PD15DIAG.zip]
No Image!
Loading ... [PD15DIAG.nbh]
No Image or Wrong Image!
Loading ... [PD15IMG.zip]
No Image!
Loading ... [PD15IMG.nbh]
No Image! or Wrong Image!
Loading ...[ nv.img ]
.... Well it should stop after the 3rd file and start loading up.
But you hear of this "blue progress bar" "a status bar in the corner of the window" and you wait, and wait and wait. And it never comes....
Well the short answer is, make sure your SD card is formated in FAT32.
Yeah sounds simple enough, but after 15 hours it hit me as to why it wasn't working. FAT16 will work for alot of things, lots of data but due to security maybe or who knows, hboot will not load ANYTHING off a FAT16 SD card.

Well there are a handful of differences with FAT16 and FAT32, although security isn't one of them, don't know why i said that. Thinking FAT32 vs NTFS
But my guess would be maybe it has to do with the file name length being capped on FAT16, or just how it handles the FAT itself? Not sure and really don't care Just did 3 tests and NO FAT16s would load the PD15IMG file. Maybe it is just my SD card though, I did only try with one card. I do know of one other person now who formatted to FAT32 and it fixed his issue.
Glad everything worked out for you
I get those "No Image or Wrong Image!" messages, but still getting updated/changed the radio, am I missing something? I mean is this making issues Im not seeing or is nothing to worry about?

thanks i spent a whole day trying to figure where i went wrong. i won't assume anything ever again. thanks for the wake up.
So I am trying to fix my GF's mt4g and when I go through the motions like putting the pd15img.zip file on the root of the sd card it scans it then at the end it says would you like to update and i select yes then it just stays there. I've read that it shouldn't take longer than 10 minutes but it just stayed on the screen for like 30 minutes or so. I searched around XDA and couldn't find a thread that had something similar to my situation. If someone could direct me to the right thread that would be great or just let me know what i am doing wrong. i got the img file from
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1476745
and used the 2.3.4 (new) file and it got me further than any of the other files I have tried. All the other ones did was give me this message
Main version is older!
Update Fail!
Press <Power> to reboot
here are some of the details of the phone as well. 1: once it loads it get stuck on the splash screen, but when i take out the battery i can put it into hboot so that mean i can still try to save it right unless it's half bricked. Please help i've been going at this for about a week or so. I am about to tear my eyeballs out also.

Good luck facing your gf man
Sent from my MyTouch 4G using xda app-developers app
What is the phone doing? Have you tried taking it to tmobile or calling support? My wife was having random reboots and shut downs and I told her to take it in and have them give her a new battery...after speaking with a rep, they sent her a new phone instead and when the problem persisted, then they gave her a new battery.

Hello all,
As many of you know Rogers issued an update for 911 issues and sense ui just recently, unfortunately as I attempted the update via SD card method, the first update seemed to have gone well but after once it wanted to reboot it keeps on splashing the ROGERS over and over.
I'm thinking this is most likely because I am rooted and the process just didn't agree.
I am currently running amon ra's 1.2.3 rec. img
with amon ra's 1.6 rom
32A motherboard
BTW I still get to boot when I hold end+vol down
and when I hold end+home I get amon ra's screen but is quickly taken away after a few seconds.
Any help would be much appreciated.

good news and bad news.
good news, im pretty damn sure thats not a brick as you can still get into fastboot (the vol down + power)((atleast thats what i think fastboot is))
bad news, i dunno how to fix it.
i know theres a way to revert to original stock ROM via fastboot, so im sure it is fixable. don't know about custom ROMs via fastboot.
bed time, though. good luck, man, and dont get bummed cause im 99% sure you aren't just plain ****ed.
edit: just noticed screenie, but can't see it because my girlfriends retarded wanna-be stepdad decides to look at pr0n all night and continues to install "mywebsearch" **** and i can't get to it. :/
Hopped on my mytouch, still think your good but let someone else who knows more vertify that.
another option
one other thing you can do,
go to a rogers store, and tell them you tried applying the so called essential upgrade 'b/c you care about your safety' and the '911 issue is a important fix'. tell them you recieved instructions to do w/e it is using the SD card method.
basically, you tried the update ---> phone got messed up.
i know someone else did it and it was grounds for them just giving you a new phone.
not saying 100% it'll work, but its worth it b/c you get a new device with the new ROM on it if it does.
goodluck.

Can you clarify which SD card method? Was it using the official DREAIMG.nbh from Rogers?
I thought that I had bricked my phone because I went for a hail mary attempt to root my phone. But unfortunately it wouldn't get past the Rogers screen.
However, after talking to a CSR, they sent me a link to the Windows 7 file and it rewrote everything back onto my phone and I was able to boot it normally again.

Ya, thanks. I figured I wasn't completely boned.

I had the same problem while installing the new update yesterday. I had to call Rogers to guide me through it and even he couldn't figure it out. My phone just kept rebooting over and over after installing the first update. Even in recovery mode it didn't give me a chance to wipe, flash or restore anything because it would reboot in a matter of 2 seconds. The tech support guy on the phone had no idea what to do. I finally realised that I had a seperate Mini SDcard USB adapter that I could put my SDcard in and then plug into the USB. That allowed me to access my SDcard so I was able to delete the first SAPPIMG and then put the new SAPPIMG from the second update onto the SDcard. I repeated the same process from the first update (I was able to access fastboot without it rebooting), everything installed perfectly and now the phone is up and running great. If you don't have a Mini SDcard to USB adapter I'd suggest picking one up at your nearest Electronics store. I believe I picked mine up at BestBuy for $35 which came with a 4gb class 4 SDcard. The adapter is so small that it actually sits on my key-chain. Hope this helps.

I was rooted before, this is why I'm sure I've had the same problem as many of you. It seems though that this issue doesn't just stop at us... This issue has been happening with many other carriers and I'm not sure why (as of yet). I've flashed dozens of other Sense ROM's and even ROM's without Sense for ei. Espresso and Eclair and they all worked fine before. This new Sense ROM from Rogers is fantastic. So try what I did and you should be on your way with no issues.
Now if only we can root this damn phone.

After the update your phone won't be rooted anymore, therefor your warranty will still be in effect. After flashing the first update it already changes your SPL and Radio therefor Rogers wouldn`t know if you were rooted prior to the update. If you stuck in the boot loop just follow my instructions and you will be home free.

Happy to hear that I could help. They did misname the files but how could you blame someone who goes by the name of Rogers. I have several services with them and it's nothing but headaches with them.
I'm sure it was a rushed update as well. The devs at HTC were probably pressed for time to get this update up and out the door within a couple of days. Rogers will possibly be a major distributor for them in the next upcoming years.
Thanks a lot!
That solved it.
Anyone been able to root this ROM yet..?? I have tryed everything and I just keep semi bricking my phone.. but I can always recover it.
Previously I found out I had a bricked phone. I used the gfree method of rooting (which I still don't recommend). I need to get it unrooted so I can return it to T-mobile for a replacement! I was wondering if there was ANY possibly way of unrooting your mytouch 4g if it its bricked? (In my case soft-bricked) I keep getting cache errors in recovery so I know it's bricked but it's a soft-brick. But is there anyway to unroot a soft-bricked mytouch 4g?
THANK YOU for any answers possible.
Justin
Yes, very easily. Download the file from this thread. Ignore all the other instructions there. Rename the file to PD15IMG.zip and place it in the root of your SD card. Then boot into hboot by turning the phone off and turning it back on while holding down Power and Volume Down. The file will automatically be detected and flashed. When that's done your phone will be unrooted and be just like when you took it out of the box.
Thank you for responding! I'm downloading the file right now. I'll tell you what happens in a second.
Okay, I downloaded the file and renamed it like you said and put a .zip and the end and put it in my sd card. But when I went to hboot it said SD card checking Loading image image not found! I'm confused, did I need another file? Or do I have a file that I shouldn't have?
Thank you for everything.

That's the correct file. It's been a while, but I think you have to select "bootloader" from the hboot menu. Then the file will be recognized and flashed.
It still did the same thing. Do you have to take off certain files that you used to root it such as the (part7backup-1308721303) file? Do you have to make sure there is no rooted material?
glad to see someone helping you.
but why do you need a replacement? I hope it's not because you bricked you phone
It was a soft-brick, but the phone was already glitchy before I even thought of rooting.
It was a soft-brick, but it was already glitchy before I even thought about rooting.
Make sure there are no other root or unroot related files in the root of your SD. "Image not found" suggests to me that the file may be corrupt. Delete the current file and re-download one more time. Also make sure the file is named exactly "PD15IMG.zip" or it will not flash.
Do you think I should just wipe my sd card and then only put that file on? (The other file is downloading).

Sure thing. I hope it flashes this time. It certainly should, and has worked for many other people to restore back to stock after being bricked and/or getting cache errors in recovery. In fact, in those situations, flashing this file is all you can do.
This is STILL not working. I am very confused. I did everything word for word, but it just won't recognize the file. Do you have any idea why? And will really T-mobile check for S=OFF if I send it back like this? I have only had this phone for roughly five months.

That tells me that your phone is rooted, running the engineering bootloader, and you have the stock TMO-USA MT4G radio. That all looks normal. At this point, I have no idea why you're getting the 'image not found' error. I'm sure someone will come along that can help you out further.
On a side note, that's the second time in as many days that I've accidentally hit the Thanks button. Oh well, you get a free one!
One more thing. You're absolutely positive the file is in the root of your SD, correct? It can't be in any folders or else your SPL will not find it.
A common mistake is that you might have renamed it "PD15IMG.zip.zip."
Hi , okay i lost my old MyTouch 4g from launch , and received a new one back in August. I decided to finally do the downgrade via ADB , i got through every step and when it was time to do the "manual Downgrade" i put the Rom on the root of the SD card and when i booted to the bootloader it said PD15IMG.zip was found but the nbh file wasn't found

If I see and you type what there really is, then it didn't find any PD15IMG.ZIP.
That would be either because you have your card formatted in some weird way, or because you didn't follow the guide, didn't read the multiple warnings and unknowingly named your file PD15IMG.ZIP.ZIP (because your Windows isn't set to show file extensions).
So, formatting the SD card before use with regular FAT32 and making sure the name is right will solve that.
Moreover, you should check the MD5 of the PD15IMG. It will keep looking for .nbh only if the file is wrong.
no i downloaded the PD15IMG zip file from the guide i didn't have to change anything it was already named that file, so if i format the memory card all should be good ?, would i have to worry about doing the ADB again because i had multiple reboots by taking out the battery because of being stuck at the splash screen.
EDIT: Thank You Progress was made i just Formatted the memory Card now, its performing the Update through the Bootloader to 2.2.1 with the blue side bar , i'll keep this posted with another Edit
EDIT: 2.2.1 update wasunsuccessful it getts stuck at the purple "updating" words i went to a youtube video to see what the update process would be like its supposed to go "updating, OK, OK, Unzipping"
imma try to reinstall 2.3.4 then doing the ADB method if possible
EDIT: updating to 2.3.4 does nothing but the same thing 2.2.1 update did , now im stuck scratching my head
It means that the phone is stuck updating one of the partitions, which is bad.
You could attempt to flash Panache RUU on this thing. HTC have their own downloader, inaccessible through regular modes, which is invoked when RUU is being flashed using EXE file. You might also need a goldcard for your phone to attempt it. In the Mobilicity/Panache rooting thread in General section you'll see all the info on creating a goldcard. A bit of search will get you the Panache RUU .exe file
If the RUU is successful - you'll have HTC Panache for a phone. From there, you can attempt rooting and downgrading instructions in the Panache rooting thread.
If you still have warranty - I'd use it. Flashing Panache RUU, if it won't get you luckier with PD15IMG, will be irreversible, since I don't know of MyTouch 4G RUU in .exe format.
alright i have all the necessary files such as the RUU exes i tried to make the gold card but was unable to do so using the simple Gold card method , how would i go about turning my phone into the Panache if my phone cant even turn on fully ?
HTC software running on PC doesn't need your phone to be booted, it can automatically put the phone into HTC-specific download mode from any other mode.
Run the RUU.exe while the phone is in the bootloader, for example, and see if it flashes, and if not - what error does it show.
the RUU.exe says USB error, everytime i plug my phone in through the bootloader the computer comes up with a Android 1.0 New Hardware wizard i dont know if this is interfering with the .Exe not finding the phone
EDIT: Found Android 1.0 drivers , now the error was the phone not being charged LOL! , ill keep this posted with another edit after the phone is charged, thank you for the help i appreciate it.
Yes, you'll need the driver operational.
Use Windows 7 computer, it'll automatically find and install the needed driver.
Thank You So Much for your Help i went to T-Mobile , and my insurance covered for a new phone i took the option of going for the Sensation instead of getting another Mytouch 4g and running into the same problem,
I Enjoyed this community from my First MyTouch 4g of flashing multiple ROMS , this was and is a powerful phone i wish it had more dev/hacker support with this phone
Hello,
I believe my phone has been bricked! I am currently stuck at the MyTouch 4g loading screen. I have tried performing a Factory Reset and Recovery from HBOOT, only to be brought to the same loading screen. The phone has been rooted and has S-OFF. I do not have Clockworks Recovery installed for it never went through the any times i tried before the phone became bricked. The phone was working fine until I went to restart it, and it never loaded back up. So i can only access the HBOOT screen. The numerous posts i read i have not come up with anything similar and I would like to know if there is any SPECIFIC procedure i should take if there is any hope left for my phone.
Please note the device was rooted through VISIONARY and GFREE, and was successfully working for a few hours after completion!

The PD15IMG is the image it's looking for on the SD card.
You may be in luck.
You can download this file [ http://bit.ly/qZb7ZF ].
Load it to the root of your SD card using a SDcard reader, slot on the PC.
Then put the SD card back in your phone and boot in hBoot. It will pick it up and give you and option to update the phone.
You'll want to update it.
If you see an error like "failed-PU" you are truly bricked. If not you should be able to reboot. It will wipe your phone clean though.
I shall give it a try! Just need to find a SD card reader first and i will post the results!

***Help would be greatly appreciated!***
ALSO This appears when returning to the boot menu from FASTBOOT, if it helps or may be the problem.

I did read this before posting, for S-OFF users it is mentioned to try factory reset which i did, then the alternative is to use Clockworks recovery mod which i stated i do not have. Also the fact that my device is unable to be detected on the pc still serves as a problem making it unacceptable by adb. To add i tried all alternatives for installing the driver. Regardless thank you for the advice.

That's kind of the reason i posted the method i did.
It should work for you as long as you doing see "failed-PU". And since you will not be replacing the Part7 deal you'll still maintain s-off. So all you'll need to do is reroot via VISIONary and you're in like flin.
Thank you so much neidlinger! Your method was succesful about to run VISIONARY and "be in like a fin"!

Good to hear. Glad you're back up and running.
Hi!, I've a not rooted HTC Desire Z.
After being very slow for some day today the device stay on the white screen with HTC for hours.
I've then tried to factory reset the device but when i select factory reset it stay stuck on the menu voice and i've to reboot removing the battery.
If i choose recovery it shows a green circle and an arrow in the center.
I've searched a bit on the forum but who has the same problem has not my model of phone and who has the same model has already unlocked the bootloder.. so... could anyone show me the right image/process to take to unlock/format the phone?

PC10IMG_Vision_TMOUS_1.19.531.1_Radio_12.21.60.09b_26.02.01.15_M2_release_149459_signed.zip

Uhh uhh uhh... until someone like niqper (or however you spell his name) comes in here and tells you to flash that PC10IMG, do NOT flash it, I'm not saying it will break your phone but considering you aren't rooted I'm thinking it's not at all necessary and I don't know the consequences.. So wait, can you access the bootloader by holding down + vol ? What happens exactly?

Hi! and thank you for your interess:
The phone is unbranded and not rooted.
It's impossible to boot normally
And selecting the recovery or the factory reset just freeze on the bootloader screen.
I've tried putting the PC10IMG.zip that I've found on the web but seems that I need a later version because all the version I've used are too old.
Code:

Here is the RUU for your phone RUU_Vision_Gingerbread_S_HTC_WWE_2.42.405.2_Radio_12.56.60.25_26.10.04.03_M_release_199043_signed.exe
You can try just running the exe, or extracting the zip from it (run it, until it loads (says press next or whatever) and go to the %temp% dir in windows, and do a search for rom.zip, should be roughly 250mb)
It will be safe to flash, but will wipe all your data.
I do have a suspicion that you have a fried emmc chip, you seem to have some of the symptoms, so if it hangs during the flash that will be why, in which case you can't fix it and will need to get a replacement.

Thank you, I've extracted the rom.zip and uploaded it on the SD.
The process starts updating but hangs on the first step (updating bootloader).
I think that you are right the emmc is gone...

That's a real shame time to upgrade to SGS3 or One X ? I think sooo! I'm so glad we have a resident expert like niqper to help us out with general technical stuff though so when I make the change I'll definitely miss that !

Its an HTC G2 but has the same problem with being stuck on the HTC screen
Is there an ruu for my phone? I tried the one above and it started fine, updated the first 2 then reset then when it reloaded it says "model ID incorrect"
You shouldn't of flashed that rom, thats for a DZ, not a G2.
You must've had fake S-OFF too.
You can try flashing this rom PC10IMG_Vision_TMOUS_2.15.531.3_Radio_12.52.60.25U_26.08.04.30_M3.zip
You better hope your main version is low enough to accept it though.
And that the DZ hboot accepts it (chances are it'll throw some sort of heap error)
You might be able to use a goldcard (which you need a functioning android phone to create) to allow the DZ stock rom to flash, though I can't guarantee anything.
Your phone not booting would be because the g2 hboot and dz hboot have their partition layout quite different, so its looking in the wrong place to try load android now.
