Quick question. How do I tell if I have the 3g or wifi only xoom? I purchased mine from eBay and had it sent from the states to australia. But I'm not sure what version it is. It has a sim/sd slot on the top, but in the settings it has no info under the wifi tab about mobile apn etc, Ike my other android devices have. So does this mean that its wifi only?
Thanks in advance
does it have a Verizon logo on the upper right?
nope, just has motorola in the top left corner
aussie, aussie, aussie... (this is where u come in )
look at the back, the 3g version has a black back, the wifi only version has a gunmetal grey back
edit: no verizon logo probably means wifi only
I think if you go to Settings > About tablet it should say the Model Number. MZ600 is 3G/wifi, MZ604 is wifi only.

My wifi only Xoom shows Model number: Xoom
I'm starting to think that this is not normal?
ummm seriously? the 3G version has a big "VERIZON" logo on it ...
also, in your settings, you should have "Mobile Data" in the wireless options ... if not, it's WIFI-only
also the back cover thing is correct - both have different backplates
but really the big shiny VERIZON logo should be a sign... if it's not there, you're wifi-only

It's normal. Same on my wifi. Best software method to differentiate is build number. Wifi is HRI69. All other build numbers are 3g + wifi.

Sorry I thought mine said MZ604 before I rooted. It does say just Xoom for me as well.

Then do you know how to find out the exact model number of the wifi-only version when the model number says "Xoom"? The reason I ask, is that most every post on these forums about rooting/unlocking the xoom refer to specific model numbers (MZ604, etc), not build numbers. Before I even attempt to root this device, I want to make sure I have a compatible model. I realize I probably do, but I like to be certain.
And to note: My wifi-only xoom's build number is HWI69. I'm not sure if you mistyped when you wrote "HRI69" or if there are multiple build numbers already present.
Thanks in advance!

motorola are marketing the Xoom with wifi like its an upgrade from a "just 3g" model.
Now with this in mind, is the standard xoom, with 3g and wifi and the "with wifi" model just with wifi? as if that is the case, ive bricked my xoom with the wrong firmware xd
anyone know?

They are not the same, 2 different models. You need to use wifi stuff for the wifi version.

European 3G version seems to be available in Germany and I'm thinking about ordering one... But I have some question before i order. I understand that the European 3G version comes with Touchwiz, is there a ROM without Touchwiz available for it? I have searched and read all the threads in development section but there is no mention about European 3G version.
Also i haven't seen any posts from European 3G owners. Why is that?

I'm also looking for the same, but for reasons unknown to me there are no custom roms for the P7500, yet. Afaik, you could try to flash a P7510 rom, but you will loose 3g. My best guess is that the 3g roms will come when more users have bought them.

I like Xoom because it's pure Honeycomb, so I'm afraid I'm not going to like Touchwiz (white menus and gray bottom bar). Xoom 3.2 has been ported to Iconia A500, so i'm hoping it will be possible to port it to GT10.1 also...

Sorry, no SD card slot for the Galaxy Tab 10.1 (3G and Wifi), at least not for the model no. GT-P7500 or P7510. There are a few site still advertising the SD card slot but the Tabs are all missing that slot.
hmm the more i read about all those issues, the more i might just get an motorola xoom to have stock android...
1. it's not sure whether the I/O tab will keep getting stock android updates or not
2. i don't know if i will be able to flash stock i/o android on a german 3g galaxy tab
My only problem is that the xoom is just to heavy, especially since im going to read a lot of news/rss feeds on the tab, so having a light tab is very important...
Can anyone who bought the Galaxy Tab in Germany confirm if the language can be changed to English? Those HoneyComb tablets like the Transformer and Iconia i see in Saturn and MediaMarkt only have German.

I'm sorry to say this, but if you want a 3G tabled then don't buy a Xoom. European Xoom's are not GED, so they don't get updates from Google. As far as i know, the European Xoom's still run 3.0.1.
If 3G isn't important to you, then you can buy a WIFI only Xoom and flash US software on it to make it GED.
I need a tablet with 3G connectivity, that's why i ordered a GT10.1

As far as i know, only US Xoom's are Google Experience Devices. It is possible to flash European WIFI only Xoom with official US Xoom software to make it GED. It's not possible with 3G Xoom because of different radios in EU and US versions. But there is a custom 3.2 ROM that reportedly works also on European 3G Xoom's, so thats a option.
About WIFI only GT10.1, as far as i know, even the IO version is not GED. If it was, then it would already have Android 3.2.
I See, so flashing the us Rom on a European xoom with 3g wouldn't work at all?
I wouldn't care if I lose the 3G, but since I can get the 3g version for the price of the regular WiFi only xoom, I might still get the 3G one (so I can sell it for more later).

I'm not sure if it's possible to flash the official US 3G ROM on European 3G Xoom, i believe i have read that it will mess up the radio firmware.
But like i said, there is a custom 3.2 ROM available that works on European 3G Xoom.
Check Xoom development forums. Here it is a little off topic i think.
In case you're wanting the phone version, it should appear in the USA market soon. An AT&T LTE version has just appeared on the FCC web site. https://apps.fcc.gov/oetcf/eas/repo...ame=N&application_id=424157&fcc_id=A3LSGHI467

AT&T typically does not support phone functions on tablets, so I'd guess no. Although the line between tablets and phones is a bit blurred, these days.
I'm not quite ready to have a mobile plan for my tablet (and really don't need it 99% of the time). And I already have the WiFi only version. But an AT&T release might mean some better sales for the N8, and better dev activity.
If this can be flashed with a EURO ROM for phone capabilities I will be first in line. :good:
Great news....
I guess this might bring down the price a bit.
If I can get either N5100 N5110 version for under $450 and flash Euro ROMS to make calls, then put me on the line as well.

The 7.0 Tab worked fine. Pretty sure the 10.1 does as well. No reason an 8.0 wouldn't. A phone is a phone, either it has voice capabilities or it doesn't regardless of the size. The only reason tablets don't work on ATT otherwise is the strip them of the feature from either hardware or software. Might have to ditch the IMEI if I remember correctly from my 7.0

I believe the IMEI is the issue. The network recognizes the device as a tablet using the IMEI, and then won't support phone services on the device.
That's the reason right there.
I know on the nexus 7 3g version It's thought to be a hardware limitation in the radio. Also they were never able to produce a modem capable of voice. Flashing to closest compatible radio caused a baseband hard brick with generic IMEI. Obviously the N7 was also lacking ear speaker etc, however they were able to get SMS/MMS completely working with SMS using AT&T's network. I personally used it as my smartphone replacement using my SIM for data & network texting while using google voice/groove IP for my phone services. Had to enable voice capable in bools.xml to true IOT unlock the native dialer & forward calls from the AT&T phone number to my google voice.
With that being said, I think redpoint is 100% correct in saying that if it does not work hardware limitations aside, it will be because AT&T is blocking the IMEI on their network. The N7 wasn't blocked because it was an unknown device on the network but if AT&T releases a 3g capable Note you can be sure it will be logged into their system and easy to track, just like trying to use an AT&T smartphone on the mediaNET system (which I was also using for a while on the N7 with no problems for the same reason I stated above)

Yep, and backing up then deleting the IMEI solves that issue as you then have a generic IMEI that is not seen as a tablet they recognize and allows you to make calls. Its been done by many here at XDA including myself.

Also ya gotta take into account the fact att might not have the 10.1 on their regrestry. Thats how i was able to use my N7. If ATT registers the 8.0 cuz theyre going to be carrying it they can then block it. The international one may still be safe though if thats the case.
Edit: heres a good link where they explain and compare how Att detects devices on their network and how they can block it or change plans accordingly http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1446373

Just download GrooveIP from the market, and it uses your Google Talk Phone number to make calls on your wifi/3g/4g network...
Call quality is fanatastic, at least for me here in chicagoland...You can even make and recieve using your BT headset!
I'd like a mobile version instead of the WiFi version I just picked up this week. Looks like it may go back during their return period.

No, Well not directly since that is probably illegal but if you delete your imei the device will assign a generic one automatically that carriers dont seem to detect as a tablet or atleast a specific tablet. Infact I wonder if they even bother blocking Euro devices like the 5100 since they do not sell it.

im pretty sure spoofing the IMEI is a felony though if caught. Thats why each device has a specific IMEI.
Testing out the Galaxy Tab S2 4G LTE version. So far I will be keeping the Tab S2! I wasn't going to upgrade from my Tab S, but after these last two days of using it on the road, it is a premium tablet! Samsung has come a long way from previous builds, not that I didn't like them just has stepped up.
Here is a look at the Galaxy Tab S2 4G LTE, it is a bit long as I was testing out the 4G LTE with Verizon SIM and AT&T. Also some web browsing and overall look.

With Google Voice, pretty much anything with access to the internet and a microphone can place calls and receive them. It does come in handy at times.
Honestly i don't see much a point for a tablet to place calls outside of google voice, because that would mean you have a separate phone number.

Just got mine today. Took the ATT sim out of my ipad air 2 and slipped it in and it shows the network bars but wont connect to any data. 4G lte worked fine in the air 2. It is an add on line for our mobile family plan. I guess I need to call att and have them provision the sim for the S2? The sim out of my S6 active works fine it the S2.
EDIT: Ok they set it up with the new imei and it is working fine now with just one issue. It shows 4G and not lte like it did with the sim out of my S6. It is getting the same LTE speeds as my S6 it just wont show actual LTE like it did with the sim from the S6. Doesn't bother me just kind of odd.
@ElCamino, thanks for the detailed unboxing and review!
Samsung has like 100 variants of these tablets, each with a different band support configuration. Can you please list the full Samsung model number (including all the letters past the 815...) and its FCC ID (if there is one) of this imported model?
How do I access the phone call feature on my AT&T LTE 9.7 in version ? Don't see an icon or anything to make calls or is calling limited to certain tablets ?

I do not think carrier versions have calling function that is cellular..this is standard practice as on t705/707?, t325/320 etc...the carriers fault...not Samsung's just as iPad has no cellular calling just data capability..same as t335/337?, t230/231?/235/237? and so on....
I may have carrier model numbers wrong but my point remains
You need international version for cellular calling

Make sure the SIM is provision for LTE. For a Galaxy Note 5 that I had done a video for, it would only stay at H+, called and they changed it on their end. In the Tab S2 I have, it shows 4G at top but checking in settings, about devices, status. I can see that it shows its on LTE.

Just a few comments in defense of calling capability in a tablet.
There are several reasons you might want this:
1. You are carrying around a tablet and a smart phone, why not just carry one device, a tablet?
2. Smart phones are too small, you need something bigger for your eyes.
3. Your new vehicle demands a phone connection and you constantly forget your phone, both at home and in the vehicle. You plan to install a small tablet for a phone & also other uses so it is there permanently.
Comments:
1. No where is there a law that says your phone must be held up to your head. In fact, it is probably better that you don't do that (radiation). Modern technology allows other ways of communicating.
2. T-Mobile has the 'DIGITS' feature in progress where 1 number (your number) can be used for multiple devices. Hence NO NEED to get a second number.

I have the T719 and it is my only phone at the moment! I am liking having a large device for my apps and internet, and the only really hurdles have been not being able to pocket the device, and calls in public can be cumbersome without a headset. But in the car with Bluetooth it's exactly the same, and it's not an issue at home at all.

It's simply SM-T719, no carrier affiliation at all. It isn't sold in the U.S. except online. The guy I got it from gave me the link to a great site that ships to the U.S. very quickly. It's in another thread here, couldn't find it just now but will find it if you're interested ? Oh, and it seems to have full Penta band LTE, so it even supports T-Mobile perfectly. Between all that, and the snapdragon processor. I couldn't be happier with it.
Hey all,
I picked mine up from BH Photo and the model on the box says it's ZE553KL-S625-3G32G-BK which should be the US version but my current firmware is WW_11.41.87.2_20170514.
Did they load the wrong firmware? Send the wrong phone? Or something else? I'm not getting amazing battery life on AT&T so I'm worried I'm missing some bands...
I got mine from Amazon and it's the same build number. I think we both have the WW version and I'm also on ATT but have really good battery life, so I'm not sure why yours is lacking.
You can see what basebands are offered by each version here:

Okay, cool. I guess I'm confused how some people are asking and verifying if a version of the phone is WW or US if even the US one comes with a WW rom.

Yeah honestly I'm not sure. I read somewhere that both versions have the WW and that B&H had the US one and Amazon sold the WW one, but since I think I have the same version as you that makes that even more confusing.

Hi everyone, I'm on the same boat, I got a Zenfon3zoom from Amazon USA and I'm using it in Mexico and currently working fine under VirginMobile with B2 for 4G.
I've not tested other SIMs to see if the other operators work under 4G BUT I've tested searching for other cellphone networks and AT&T which in Mexico works under B4 for LTE shows up, so I've come to the conclusion that my phone in fact is the US/BR version since that's the only one that supports B4.
Maybe you could do the same test?

I used the app "LTE discovery" on the play store. It supposedly tells you which band you're using on at the moment. It appears to have good reviews, and thats how I saw that I was on band 2 or 4 depending on where I was in the city.

.
Sorry I not good at explaining things,
Basically go to: "Settings->More->Cellular Networks->SIM1->Network operators->Search networks"
That will show all networks supported by the phone, after that I just search what bands those network operators work with in my city/county, since the phone can see them, it means those bands are supported by the phone.
My phone can see Mexico's AT&T 4G networks, AT&T 4G LTE in Mexico works with B4, since the ASUS website list BR/US the only version to support B4, my phone is BR/US version.
So I figured out a more definitive way to test which version you have (I have US/BR after all). When you go to fastboot mode it says it under RF_NAME. To do that hold volume down as the phone boots.
I just went through all the firmware on the Asus support page and they are all either for the WW or cn version. There is no update for any US version. So I'm thinking the WW and us version firmware is identical.
I'm also in need of Lte band 20 for when I'm in Europe 3 months of the year. I wonder if Asus could make adding Lte bands easy for all of us like the Samsung phones with a hidden menu so not everybody messes with it and bricks their phone.
So far the conclusion is that Amazon version is US (https://www.amazon.com/Zenfone-ZE55...Warranty/dp/B06XW6SJF8/ref=cm_cd_al_qh_dp_t)? I need band 4.

I purchased mine on Amazon and it is indeed US.
I have the US version. Didn't update to Nougat yet. Can anyone tell me if the battery performance, screen etc. is any better or worse after updating to nougat?
Also are there any easy ways to roll back to original marshmallow if we are not happy with nougat?

I've upgraded and haven't noticed a difference in battery life. There is no easy way to roll back your phone to marshmallow though, Following the post about converting from CN to WW rom would probably be the best way.
I purchased mine from offer up and I can't update mine the rom is WW but idk which variant I have?
