But they might now be tracking people who DONT take the updates too.....

So I was thinking about doing this, but it would mean running madderstock (sp I know) first and I read his instructions and not only does my file size not match, astro won't give me an md5 sum. So I am not comfortable with proceeding.
crap
i did it, but i didnt do it right. phone comes on says

Err:A5, 69, 35, 00, 27

I have it up and running. Its actually very very nice. If your not worried about root(for right now) then it's a good rom.

Were you on Gingerbread? Cause only... ONLY way to go back to Froyo is to SBF. Anything else will cause problems, and still require an SBF to be used. Not an SBF zip, actually using RSDLite to flash the phone. Which is where you're at now.. must do a full flash.

crap. okay i think i can manage, will try this evening. and i went from 2.2.1 apex 1.4.1 to maderstcok .340, then attempted to install todays new 2.3 that came out.
but i will flash. should i try maderstcok again and just stay there/ or rather, how do i get from where i am to the 2.3 update?

The OTA isn't rolling out. http://blogs.computerworld.com/18122/verizon_droid_x_gingerbread_rollout?source=rss_blogs
Verizon denied it. This is just from the manual update so OTA isn't out yet.

Once the OTA is available. SBF to 2.3.40... receive update. Wait for Root... install Liberty GB.

Does anyone have a link or know where I can find the correct SBF file to get me to where I need to be in order to get the legit Droid X update so I can move to Gingerbread?
After I have the SBF I need so I just apply it just as any other SBF is applied?
If i knew how to attach a file id send it to you
Anyone?

I have the SBF, but I most certianly don't have the bandwidth to upload it in a timely manner...I'll try and find it for you on Rapidshare. It's 434 MB so it's a pretty decent sized file.
Edit: HERE.

You sure that is the SBF to take you from the leaked 2.2 back to original stock device 2.1? The file name doesn't look correct from what I remembered in the past.

My bad. That's for the leaked 2.2 waaay back. Ignore that!
This one should lead you to the right path, assuming that your bootloader version is 30.03 or 30.04.
Also I wouldn't try loading an Eclair SBF. It will brick your phone if you had a later build on there previously.

I have the original leaked 2.2 update on my phone. I.e the very first one that took me from 2.1 to 2.2, There are like 3-4 SBF versions floating around so I want to be sure which one to use so I dont brick my phone going back stock.
Which of these SBF files is good to use?
Can't I "technically" use any SBF because it reflashes the entire phone back to factory based on the SBF I use?
In addition to the post directly above I checked and I have Bootloader version 30.01
(My goal here is to go back and get the legit ota 2.2 droid X update to put me back in line so I can move to the gingerbread update.)
I've done more reading. It looks like the original "gift" Droid X 2.1 sbf is the one I should use then OTA to 2.2
Can anyone confirm?

Well could anyone tell me if it would "hurt" my phone if I were to use the 2.1 "Gift" SBF?
I think that will work
You should be able to use the 2.3.340 sbf to go directly to the latest stock build though
I am fairly green at flashing but couldn't you use the TBH SBF to 2.3.340

This also says that the sbf does not include the bootloader
I think 'the gift' sbf is for your bootloader version. If you have that, flash it, then run the update through verizon
If your bootloader is 30.01, you need to use the 2.1 sbf. From there you will do the OTA update from 2.1 to 2.2, which will update your bootloader to 30.03 and also get you the new radio and whatever else. Then you will do the minor update to 2.2 version 2.3.15.
From then on, you would use the 2.2 sbf on BL 30.03 to get back to OTA 2.2 version 2.3.15 if you brick or want a fresh start.

Just a quick update for all who have helped me or lurked this thread.
I SBF'd the 2.1 "GIFT" and it took me back to like the day when I got the phone last July. From there I booted up and downloaded the OTA to 2.2.1. This OTA took my bootloader from 30.01 to 30.04.
From there I used this: http://www.droid-life.com/2011/03/29/how-to-root-gingerbread-on-droid-x/ Now I am on Gingerbread, rooted.
Thanks all.
Glad to hear you got it all figured out, and successfully!

[ROM]GingerJane 1.3 - Sense 2.1/Gingerbread 2.3.4 - FixedSh*t Edition

Due to potentially dangerous problems with the Gingerbread leak radios, I have pulled my download links and suggest you go back to froyo.
As many know, I don't do real custom roms, just repacks of stock/leaks for users. Due to the bugs in the leak this is based on, I am unable to stay stock. I will do my best, and will list any modifications I use.
Wanna report a bug?
Did you do a data/cache wipe before installing? If no, please don't report.
Can you provide logs if it is a crash? If no, please don't report.
Did you do any modifications? New kernel? If yes, please don't report.
Otherwise please PM me details, with a log if available.
Community attributed fixes:
imoseyon kernel v2.5.3GBtest2 - Fixes Camera
PSCII.apk (chingy) - fixes usb mounting with custom kernels
HTCSetupWizard.apk (aiccucs) - No more activation of death
(if I missed you, please let me know)
To revert to MR1 Froyo (stock +ota) see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1082114
Stock Kernel
For those wanting to undo the Camera Fix kernel
http://www.cl.ly/6r8T
Fixed:
Usb Mounting
Camera
Activation Hang
Missing Market Apps
Bluetooth issues - Should be fixed, please report back.
Broke: (thanks arcanexvi)
Alarm Clock (for some) UPDATE Fix coming on next update
Wifi Tether ??? - Need details + logs before I look into it
Data loss after callls ??? - Need details + logs before I look into it
Extremely Slow charge - Need details + logs before I look into it
Slow 4G performance - Disputed, no LTE where I live, need massive details
Unable to download new HTC widgets - NOT BROKE, server side issue, like in 2.1 leak for Eris.
Uninstalling an application causes it to "freak" - Need details + logs before I look into it
Gingerbread leak is alpha software, it is buggy. All roms based off it will be buggy. If this bricks your phone, it is your fault not mine. If it causes any harm, your fault not mine.
DOWNLOAD LINK REMOVED
Radio flash is not needed if you are upgrading from another Gingerbread Sense rom. Data/cache wipe is recommended.
Installation Instructions:
Download both the ROM and the radio.
Rename PG05IMG_gingerradio.zip to PG05IMG.zip and drop it onto the root of your SD Card.
Put mecha_gingerjane_1_3.zip onto the root of your SD Card
Boot into recovery
Do a Nandroid Backup!
Perform a factory reset
Flash mecha_gingerjane.zip, DO NOT REBOOT
Using ADB, reboot to bootloader
adb shell
reboot bootloader
If in fastboot mode, switch to bootloader mode and allow the updated radios to flash.
Enjoy!
Since everyone wants screenshots, here it is. It looks ...like...stock.

Just a Question:
So the new radio for this rom... Is it compatible with the current froyo roms we have?
If not... can we flash back to froyo w/ a compatible radio? or is it GB or Bust?
This question had to be asked at some point.
bloat is still in this one right? So the basic debloat and this one are different?

Interesting. I'll install it when I get my phone today and see if it breaks root.
Just checked the update on phone it just give a application update for Twitter nothing else at the moment... Checked my wife's non rooted shift and has the same Twitter update nothing else that there Twitter account says...
It's just another basic HTC security update just like the last one...But I did hear HTC patched misc.img partition on the G2 so be carefull about what security patches you update to because it could break root if you have s-on and stock HTC recovery.
Has anyone actually been able to initiate this update yet? I want to pull the .zip from the SD card without installing it to see what's inside and whether or not it can be made into a patch for a rooted 2.3.3 without too much trouble (since I'm an idiot and I want to run the phone stock, save for root).

Me too. Let me know though.
I got this earlier and it failed on install. Like has been said at 26.2MB I seriously doubt it's ICS.
Tab restarted and it showed the android icon. A status bar went like a quarter of the way until it showed the android with an exclamation point and froze. I freaked out and held power to shut it down. It booted to cwm and I restarted.
Not sure if it even completed the update at all.

Damn. I just got that message too and said "go" because I have root with backup (ota rootkeeper) and CWM so I thought let's see but all it did was reboot *into CWM!!* and gave me some error, checksum mismatch or whatever. Rebooted and all is still untouched "old" version.
Now system/about says no update available. How can I manually install this? I think it's a new modem and hope it is and that it will finally fix the horrid 4G reception issues. My Droid Razr gets SOOO much better signal in the same area.
Does anyone by chance have a clean, fresh stock install plus this update and can pull me a CWM nandroid backup ?

"Biggest" change appears to be IPv6 support. I care (I'm all IPv6-native at home), most probably won't.

Will I lose root?
Has anyone tested whether we will lose root by upgrading? And if so does the root.zip work to get it back?
Given what's at stake (IPv6 functionality), I don't think I care whether I do it or not, I just want it to stop asking me.

I applied this OTA last night. Since then, I'm seeing much poorer data speeds: Previously had pretty solid LTE speeds, now I'm lucky to exceed 500-1000kbps down.
Does anyone know if the previous i815 ROM / previous radio file is available online to flash via desktop Odin? (I've searched but didn't find anything but a nandroid file -- I'm not rooted, so don't have CWM.)

I'm on the stock rooted deodexed MJ5 ROM, and I'm seeing this when I check for updates. Anyone else getting this?

Yes, I just got it also (Cleveland, OH). It's a 30-something MB update. Wonder if that's prepping for a bigger update to come?

Someone said there was a fix coming, perhaps for GPS etc. Definitely sounds too small to be KitKat? I think would need to restore stock odexed in order to install.
I'm on the 'official' kitkat and is says software is up to date when I checked

Probably fixes this... Probably fixes that... Let's get real:
Probably just adds a 30MB JPEG of the Samsung Logo. Lol.

This just confirms that we WONT be getting an update any time soon to 4.4.
Both Samsung and ATT have some sort of BS going on. Probably something with the additional bloatware not working with 4.4 and is the reason why they have not released 4.4 to the public.
This type of BS may push me over the edge with both Samsung and ATT.
Samsung needs to pull an Apple and not allow any carriers to add junk to their phones, thats one thing I respect about Apple.

Well my phone somehow managed to update itself while in my Otterbox holster. I lost my root. Is it safe to re-root using Kingo again?

The same thing happened to me. This sucks. I guess I should have froze future updates through Titanium Backup. We may be temporarily screwed.

Just rerooted using Kingo Root and seems to have worked. It did seem to take longer than I remember last time but i'm rooted again after this mornings update.

I am trying to re-root using Kingo but my phone keeps rebooting as Kingo root program says "waiting for device". I remember there being something special I had to do to get it to root last time. What did you do to root yours again?

Just made sure the phone had USB Debugging on and put it in MTP mode when plugged into USB. Other than that I just let Kingo do its thing. It did reboot one time during the root process but was re-detected by Kingo after restarting and the process continued. Also got the warning about mtkCamera being potentially unsafe during part of the process but told it to goahead anyway. Using Kingo 1.2.0
