Help with SPB & Sprite Backup

I recently used SPB to do a "full backup" but it only took 5minutes and the resulting backup file was only 41.7MB...my internal memory has 160MB in use so was this a complete backup and does it usually be this quick? The compression level is set to normal.
I previously used Sprite backup but when I recently wanted to restore it and clicked on the self-restoring file it said "The file cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate, or one of its components cannot be found. You might need to reinstall or restore this file"...?
I even tried opening it and my previous 2 backups via opening up sprite -> restore, however it did not find the backup files? Anyone else had this problem.
Lastly, is it best to backup my storage card at the time of the backup? Just that if I ever need to do a hard reset and then restore, won't my system need the files on my storage card to be as they were at the time of my backup? (I have many programs installed on there)

sprite backup problem
hi what you can try is reinstall the sprite backup program via your pc
and after that try to open the self extracting sprite backup file.
i remember having the same problem and this did the trick for me

i never backup my storagecard ! with sprite back up on the same storagecard you seldom will lose the data on your storagecard.
you can make a back up on your pc which includes your storagecard but then your backup will be on your pc.

hi can sprite backup work between rom upgrades?
as in , i back up now.
i flash a new rom.
i restore...
will everything be the same as before? including contacts favorite people photos?
will the new rom work properly?? ( as in the old data will it affect the new rom? )

I dont know about flashing a rom but i have tried hard reset then restore from backup using sprite and it restored everything. install sprite back on storage card and also save the executable backup file to storage card. when you do a hard reset just goto file explorer then tap on the backup file. it should restore your phone back to before you performed a hard reset. what version of sprite backup do you have. I have 6.5.4.14

I currently use SPB Backup for backing up all my PIM information (contacts & emails)
As I constantly upgrade or fash new roms this is very useful. The size of this file is usually around 2.5MB
I have also done full backups which are generally around 20MB for me.
However I never use full restore after I have upgraded or changed rom. I only use full restore if I have done a hard reset or reverted back to original rom I backed up.
The reason for this is that if you do a full restore, you are restoring registry entries from your previous rom which may conflict with your new rom.
For this reason, I don't personally take the chance and only use custom restore i.e. PIM info

I was using version 6.5.4.8 also tried 6.5.4.14 - same result.
I've changed to SPB backup now and that seems to backup ok...the proof in the pudding will be once I need to restore!

6.5.4.14 works fine for me. my backup file is around 32mb though

Backingup and migrating from villian 3.4 to 4.0

Ive been using villian 3.4 for a while now and have gotten it just the way i like it, i really want to move to 4.0 but i just find it so time consuming to install all the apps and change all the settings and add accounts etc, is there a backup program that will basically transfer everything over ?

Try Titanium Backup, donate version.
Install it from the market and make a batch backup of all user apps + system data.
Then reboot into recovery and make sure you don't forget to perform a nandroid backup (to be able to revert in case something goes wrong).
Now you can install the new ROM and then use Titanium Backup again, this time to restore apps, settings, market entries, the works...

[Q] Titanium Backup not auto-restoring applications?

I just wiped AvaV6 and put back on AvaV7 and I am not able to restore my applications (I have to do it 1 by 1) in Titanium Backup. I've noticed in certain ROMs it will auto restore them, but for some reason in Ava, it doesn't. What would cause this? Are there any fixes out there for it?

Perhaps if you haven't already download a new busybox from the problem bottom. Also do you have the full donation version or just the regular? I have the full donation version witch allows me to restore all apps and system data with prompts.

Did you delete your license file? As far as I know, TB doesn't automatically restore unless you run a batch operation. The only ROMs that restore by themselves are CM6 (that I know of). That's done through the Market and doesn't restore data, however.

TB does them 1 by 1 unless you purchased it.
if you have purchased it, check for your license file, if you havent, go buy it!

[Q] What is the best way to flash CM nightlies and restore apps+settings from azure?

I realize this is a bit of a noob question but I've tried to flash cm rc1 about 6 times now, and every time I've experienced problems trying to restore my apps and settings.
Every time I tried, I started by doing a nandroid backup and wiping before flashing rc1, and I could boot with no problems. However, the first time I did this, the first thing I did was flash gapps and then waited half an hour for most of my downloaded apps to be restored automatically, but none of my settings or contacts came back.
Tried reflashing rc1 again but this time didn't flash gapps yet, instead went to advanced restore options in nandroid and restored only my data, which did the trick, except when I flashed gapps after I got the error where at setup you're supposed to "touch android to begin" and it doesn't do anything. Thought I'd nearly bricked my phone cause I couldn't exit the screen or get into recovery! Eventually managed to restore azure.
Going to try now restoring from my titanium backups and THEN flashing gapps, so hoping this is the best way to do it.
EDIT: Oh yeah so here's actually the main problem/question: I have most of my apps on sd (froyo apps2sd) and have backups made from titanium and a nandroid backup obviously. I want to have all my current apps and settings restored to the rc so that everything is more or less exactly as it is the way I use it now. Is this possible? Or will titanium restore my apps to internal memory?

Okay, so after restoring from titanium and flashing gapps I STILL don't have half of my apps or any of my contacts! What am I doing wrong??
Is there a series of steps you guys follow when migrating everything from one rom to another?

Make sure to enable App2sd in the Cyanogen Application Settings before running the Titanium restore. Also check Titanium Backups's Settings (press Menu button). There is an option to enforce the same location (SD/Internal). Not sure if it helps though.
I am not running an English version so you might have to search for the options.
Your contacts should be stored on your google Account if you had syncing activated.
Check Settings -> Account & Sync (or something like this) and add your google account if it is not already there. After that click the option to sync contacts.
If your contacts wheren't synced try restoring with Titanium again. The files you are looking for are "com.android.providers.contacts-***.tar.gz" and "com.android.providers.contacts-***.properties" NOT ""com.android.contacts-***."
If nothing helps you could always restorer you nandroid backup -> Titanium backup all apps that are NOT moved to SD -> uninstall all apps that are not moved to SD to make some room and move every app on the sd card to your internal storage before running another Titanium backup to have all apps as internal-storage versions. While you are at it you can sync your contacts with your google account and export them to SD for two options to restore them later.

Batch backup system and user apps+data. Then verify that backup to see everything is backed up successfully. For contacts either sync to Google account or you can export your contacts to SD, which I prefer personally. Full wipe, install Titanium, restore. End of story.

Thanks denisman, I did actually follow all of those steps and still had problems.. titanium didn't restore my contacts and even though they were synced with google for some reason they never came back, so I took your advice and exported my contacts to sd and will try again. Strange that between google sync and full backup and full restore of apps through titanium I still couldn't restore all my previous settings. Doing a nandroid advanced restore of data was the best option, if only I could do so without getting the error when flashing gapps. Maybe I should flash gapps and THEN nandroid restore data?

That's how I've been doing it actually, although I don't have the paid version of titanium so I can't verify my backups. Will upgrade to paid version and try that, thanks.

Update:
Okay so this time I flashed gapps first and THEN used nandroid to restore just my data and that did the trick; contacts, settings and apps are all back the way they should be.
New issue though (I seem plagued by these)! Even though I have the exact same stuff installed, I have only 3mb free on internal memory (even after using adb shell to remove carhome, twitter and other system apps I didn't need) when I used to have 40mb free before. Is cm6.1 that much larger than azure or do I have unnecessary copies of files sitting around somewhere I can't see them?

In titanium settings you need to check "force install to same location", then any apps you used to have on your SD card will stay there.

Preferred backup/restore method?

I fully expect to blow up my phone again tonight screwing around with the bands.
Before I do a full reset, can anyone recommend how to easily backup/restore the Note:
My restore process last time was:
<After factory reset>
1) Root the phone:
Turn on Settings -> Applications -> Development -> USB debugging
Turn on Settings -> Applications -> unknown sources
Run the Zergrush script to root
< This assumes you have done it before and have everything set up already - see other threads for setting up zergrush if you haven't rooted your phone before.>
2) Install Titanium backup root
Restore all apps+System Data
3) Delete and re-place all widgets <---This sucks! How can I avoid this?!!?
4) Run Apps that load their own data when you first run them.
(I suspect this can be avoided if you backup/restore the /sdcard directory)
Other side notes:
I could swear Titanium backup did not correctly restore the s-memo data.
I see the correct 'number' of s-memos, but 90% of them were blank.
I had to do more junk, but I suspect I just hadn't done a titanium backup
Anyway, if anyone can give me any suggestions regarding #3 or #4 that would be appreciated.

I've personally never used it, but doesn't nandroid just make an entire backup of the internal flash chip? Kind of like ghost imaging a computer hard drive?

Don't restore all apps+System Data. Only do restore all apps.

+1, otherwise you will copy system data of your old phone in the Note. This will result with many bugs n lags...

b'coz ne preinstalled app may not overwrite with this

flash a ROM with CWM then use it to make a nandroid backup.

Just found out that if you open and edit a note the content re-appears - so it is saved and restored with Titanium, but has to be recreated from the dataset. I have so many memos that I wish there was a quicker way to restore them than to open each one.
