I have the zImage and the Modules
I'm on latest MAGLDR and CWM.
Help! Thanks!
Hi,
which kernel are you trying to flash and which ROM are you using?
Bear in mind that not all kernels are compatible with all ROMS.
If you are sure of the compatability, then:
Download the ROM and kernel zips:>Then put them both on the sd card root :>go into cwm:>ad recovery:>wipe data ,dalvik and cache partitions:>install ROM:>install kernel:> reboot.
Good luck

I don't see an option for "install ROM" in CWM... I see an option for "install update from zip file"
I don't have the kernel zip... I have the zImage and Modules folder. What is the format the zip file needs to be in i.e. the folder structure, necessary additional files, etc?

Hey u sound lyk u don't know wat u r doing and so i wouldn't advise u go flashing kernels lest u mess up ur current build installation...Like "malybru" said, Wat ROM are u using & which kernel do u want 2 flash on it? wat steps have u done so far?
Anyway, "Install ROM" meant "Install zip file from sd card"....same way u flash a ROM via CWM.

I'd like to flash g.lewarne's kernel:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=917590
I am use the CME Desire HD2 Compact v1.4
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1027768
I am looking for a kernel that has the best wifi reception - someone recommended this one to me.
Thanks
Hi,
It's important that you understand the risk when you change the original kernel.
IT MAY NOT WORK!
You say that this new kernel was recommended to you .Do you trust the source?
If you are sure you want to proceed, then the first thing you should do is:
Go to CWM >AD recovery > backup your existing ROM.Then ,if the new kernel does not work, you can always RESTORE your existing ROM .
When I change kernels,I do it when I install a new ROM i.e. I do both together.SO:
Download the ROM and kernel zips:>Then put them both on the sd card root :>go into cwm:>ad recovery:>wipe data ,dalvik and cache partitions:>install ROM:>install kernel:> reboot.
Good luck

sorry, my english is poor...so, if any mistake....lol....I download the [ROM]Stable 2.2.1 ROM for X8 | Based on miniCM, put in my sdcard xrecovery/backup, but in xrecovery choose backup/restore can't find it....why, i put it in sdcard root change it name to update.zip could find it, buy can't flash.........install update.zip , it so fast finish, and after reboot, the system not be changed...
so need help.....
are u sure no change to the system? chack out in the phone status, are the firmware version still the old firmware?
if so, do factory reset in xrecovery then re-install it
You must extract downloaded zip to /xrecovery/backup and then in xrecovery select restore
Extract???...let me have a try....Yeah, you are right, extract it follow you told, it success, thanks a lot, buy most people said that just .zip put in the folder just ok....why i can't......

Hey,
Did you extracted the installation file out of the downloaded zip file?
Inside the downloaded file there is a archive file again (forgot what format), this file you have to extract out and copy that file onto your archos
Good luck!

Yes , thats the thing I did , file named UrukDroid-install.tgz copied to the device like it written in the installation procedure ....no need to unzip that one also
Try to download this file:
http://sauron.pourix.com/UrukDroid/UrukDroid-1.0/EI/UrukDroid-install.tgz
It is directly and no need to extract any more.. maybe your archive manager does something wrong..

Okey... me too
Maybe tjeres something wrong with the kernel
Download the zImage and the initramfs as single files from here:
http://sauron.pourix.com/UrukDroid/UrukDroid-1.0/EI/
Then flash the kernel again, like you did it before (via the recovery menu)
After try the installation with the as single file downloaded installation file

Lenn, this is different , another problem ...after flashing the kernel with the "let's say " new files , what is going fast then going into the developer menu ..archos needs to reboot in that menu and I should get UrukDroid 1.0 Installation framework and select simple installation ..but does not get to that boot ....the original archos kernel completely starts up .
Let me know tomorrow ....we need some sleep being busy with this whole day
I wanted to thank you for the given support for now ..hope someone will know the answer

You have to, urukdroid is the "new" SDE after the installation

recap
Flash initramfs.cpio.gz and zImage from SDE boot menu is working fine
after going into
Boot to SDE:
power on (2) Archos, hold up/+ volume key (1) until you see "Archos AXXXX - Boot Menu",
choose "Developer edition" is also working
You should see "UrukDroid 1.0 Installation framework" title. Please choose simple install method. is working well
When asked to, connect Archos to PC (5) once again and copy UrukDroid-install.tgz,
This step is working...transfert can be done
disconnect Archos from PC properly (umount, safely remove device etc.) and press power button (2)
at this point the device saying that there is an invalid file
Try it with advanced install
Choose the recommended values (on the top) but also select that you want to format the partitions and create new ones

Format of all partitions went ok , the transfer of the 140,3 meg file to install ok until the step to press power button once to start the install ..again the invalid file error message
just thinking could it be something with the sd card ?

I took the plunge and decided to updgrade my HD2 to Android from Windows 6.5.
I did the following:
Radio to 2.**.51.**
Loaded HSPL 2.80
Flashed MAGLDR successfully.
I now turn on my phone hoping to see the MAGLDR menu through a 'long hold' on the on/off key but I get a white screen with htc in green and nothing else. The phone doesn't progress any further.
I've taken the battery out and tried again but same thing.
If I go into the bootloader menu, I get the coloured bars and at the top its got:
PB81100 HX-BC
SPL-2.08.HSPL 8G XE
0x05
CotullaHSPL 0x30
Have I screwed it?
Got the radio wrong,, its 2.xx.50 you need not 51
Radio should be. 50 not. 51. Reflash radio from bootloader.
Sent from my Cyanogen HD2
Thanks guys. Flashed the correct Radio and now takes me into the MAGLDR menu.
However, another prob. I've been following instructions I got from a friend of a friend which states:
1. At Magldr menu, selct USB Flasher and run DAF.exe <done this successfully>
2. Once done, load clockwork mod <done this successfully>
3. Install the ROM from a zip file after copying this to the SD root. The zip file in my case is 'MCCM HD V5.1 CWR,NAND' and contains a Boot, Meta-inf and system folder.
When I try and run this through the Clockwork Mod i.e. 'Install zip from sd card' it runs but then aborts installation saying 'E:Can't open /sdcard/ROM/MCCM HD V5.1 CWR.NAND.zip (bad)'
Any ideas whats happening ?
Thanks
you arent unzipping the file are you? you don't need to open that zip to see what it contains. just put the whole zip on the sd card and choose it from cwm.

Try redownloading the file. On my Optimus, it only says that upon bad download, or corrupted file.

The folder is zipped when you put it on the SD card right? If not, then copy the original downloaded folder (zipped) to the SD card and try again.
Hi yes, I have left the file zipped.
Is there a link that anyone can post for this zip file please and I'll try it again.
Also once I've done this successfully, there is an Update.zip file that I think I have to run. Can anyone confirm this is the case?
Lastley, once I've done the above I'm guessing that I have the device in a state to now flash an Android type i.e. Gingerbread, Froyo, etc.
Is this true and what do you guys recommend - any links would be helpful.
I can almost taste the sweet succes of having Android on my HD2 !!
Then why bother flashing another ROM? Just skip the flashing MCCM's ROM and go straight to a ROM of your choice. As for which ROM, there are too many but I would recommend Typhoon CM7. The only way to know for sure is to try them out.
the CM rom is a very good choice

that was the rom being flashed. If you didn't want that rom, you should put a different rom.zip on your sd card, and possibly flash a different cwm partition layout in the previous steps.
I'm a new developer and have applied all my tweaks and edits via root explorer so far. is there a way to change a CWM backup into a flashable rom file for other users to flash? I searched around a bit, but couldn't seem to find anything about it.
Goto this thread here
follow all the setup to install cygwin & kitchen
once it's all setup you can plug your phone in and create a rom
follow the guide (second method) for creating the rom system files by extracting the system folders from your phone (rom you are using)
you can then turn it into a flashable rom zip
I think you just basically extract the CWM backup, then repackage them in 1 zip file (except for the androidsecure backup).

YOU CAN USE THE CWM BACKUP IN KITCHEN YO MAKE A CUSTOM ROM.BUT YOU CAN'T ABLE TO USE THE BACKUP FILE DIRECTLY AS A CUSTOM ROM.
OTHER HAND YOU CAN MAKE ALSO THIS BACKUP AS A DEODEXED STOCK ROM BY DEODEXING THIS BACKUP FILES.
YOU CAN FIND KICHEN GUIDE HERE-http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1801690
YOU CAN FIND DEODEXING GUIDE HERE-http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2230337

Hmm thats how i make roms that i dont post here though....
In tthe cwm backup u have system.rfs.tar
Extract it using 7zip
U get system.img or u might get a system folder....
Extract the img file using Magic Iso
Open magic iso
In menu..
File>open
Select ur system.img
On the left side pane right click on the disk icon and click extract.select ur destination
Once the files are all extracted copy all of them in a folder named "system"
Now get a meta-inf folder from a custom rom and zip
Meta-Inf and system folder together
U have ur rom...
Ill create a video tutorial for this tomorrow as many people ask this question in different threads of devices....

I've done root with srs root-root and install cwm-recovery via update.zip, after that I tried most costum rom from version 2.3 to 4.0, but all I'm trying to costum rom can not boot up normally in my device, what causes all costum rom can not boot in galaxy-y,
I also do a partition on sd-card via cwm, and also pay attention to exactly how to install the costum rom to flash the kernel, but still all the costume rom will not boot
either you are a using the wrong kernel eg stock based roms require a stock based kernel and cm roms require a cm kernel and for you to format your system to ext
also make sure you mount system before flashing a rom
if you use the cm common kernel you need to unmount system and remount system before flashing the zip
