Xoom HD Dock - Xoom General

Is it possibe to modify the sound output not to be routed to tv when hdmi is plugged into tablet? I have a 23" LCD that has an hdmi input, but doesn't have speakers built in or sound out. So when the tablet is plugged into this screen i have no sound, what i would like is to use the Dock speakers when i am plugged into this lcd.

That sounds like a bummer, I assumed they would let you route sound through the headphone Jack or something.
My TV has optical out but my monitors don't nor do they have speakers, I hope there is some solution cause I never intend to connect it to my TV anyway, that's what the PS3 is for.

[Q] HDMI + Sound output?

Hi Everyone,
I plugged my A7 through the HDMI port to my projector, it works with no issues whatsoever! But the sound jack doesn't work once the HDMI is plugged. Is there a way to force the sound to work even if HDMI is plugged in? Or even the speakers?
Thank you,
Marc
I have run into this issue with other devices, not the A7 yet though.
Once HDMI was connected the device only wanted to send audio over it and disabled all others.
My projector had RCA L/R out, but no internal speakers.
What I ended up having to do was get a RCA -> headphone jack adapter from Radio Shack and use regular PC speakers from that.
Probably not the solution you were looking for, but I hope it helps.
Possible solution
The option I'm looking at right now is an HDMI switch. It has 2 inputs for HDMI and outputs 4 HDMI and an RCA. I'm not really insterested in dishing out the 70$ for it though.

Audio

Is it possible when the xoom is docked with the speaker dock, plugged into a tv via hdmi, to use the speaker on the dock or plug external speakers into the audio out on the tablet?

HDMI out and audio out separate?

So I want to hook up my tablet to my older tv for some gaming or videos every once in a while, but this thing is old and only has DVI, no HDMI. I already have a converter so video comes through fine.
I was hoping I could still have audio come out of the tablet speakers somehow but it doesn't seem possible?
What about through the headphone jack? Can audio come out of there and hdmi at the same time? That would solve the issue. (Should have tried this, but didn't think of it at the time and now i'm at work)

Boy was that tough looking four posts below yours, I didn't even have to use the search function. How do you operate a tablet blind, or does someone do it for you?

that's a different question and I looked there first. my video is fine, he's talking about converters and receivers. all I asked was if audio still comes out of the headphone jack at the same time the hdmi is plugged in. didn't want the threadjack

Ugh (*insert sarcastic remark here*)
He needed to get audio out through the HDMI just like you should do. READ!

Since it seems that this is just too much for you to grasp, I'll spell it out for you, now pay attention closely OK?
HDMI out of your tab to a splitter. One side of splitter use your existing HDMI to DVI to the TV. Other side of the splitter goes into the box mentioned in the thread I linked to. Out of that box, two RCA to your TV. Got it?
Just tested on my unit. Audio is normally on HDMI, when you plug-in headphones, the audio stops on the HDMI and is heard on the headphones.
A splitter will work as described or get the cable to convert the headphone jack to RCA audio.

Thanks. I was looking for a way to get the sound out through my speakers when using HDMI on a computer monitor without audio capability!
if you connect a dvi inpout on your tv, you must set the tv on EXT dvi, and if you connect the rca audio, you must set the tv on an other incoming !
No ?

Kindle used as a monitor

So here's the thing. I'm installing a Samsung Galaxy tablet into my car. My daughters got kindle fires for Christmas. I was going to use HDMI monitors for when I do netflix or whatever from the Galaxy.
My question is, can the Kindle fire get a video in signal and be able to use those as monitors instead of buying headrest monitors for them?
Also, on the same install, can I get sound via the usb cable or do I have to use the 3.5mm headphone jack for sound. The genius's at amazon decided to put the usb and the 3.5mm jacks on opposite sides. Now when I build a custom mounting dock for these fires, I'll have to have it slide into usb port, and then manually plug in the 3.5mm jack if I can't get sound through the usb.
I could really use your help everyone! Thanks!
the kf does only have 2 ports (1x3,5mm headjack, 1xmicro-usb) and the power switch. they are all side by side on the bottom of the device.
No way to do "video in" that I am aware of - unless you crack it open and solder to the pcb or tap into the lcd ribbon connector. Usually you would either do regular lcd monitors or totally autonomous tablets.
You should check out mp3car.com for some ideas, they do some amazing stuff.
It would be cool to be able to stream the video wirelessly from the Galaxy Tab to the Kindle Fires but I am not aware of a way to do that either at the moment.
Bump. I've been wondering this as well. If bluetooth is ever "unlocked" for the Fire I would be building an in-dash mount for my car.
Instead of streaming video, couldn't your Galaxy Tab just host share the file via Wi-Fi so the Kindles could play the video?
That is what I would do.
So far I've not found anything that supports my desires.
What I'm going to do is have to go with a separate monitor.
I stand corrected, thanks for the info and sorry for being lazy. The USB, and 3.5mm Jack are in fact on the same side. This makes life way easier. I've got what I need to do now. Thank you.
As soon as I can figure out how to put power to these tablets, and the two headphone amplifiers I need, I'll be in business and they'll be going in my headrests!
Thanks for the help.

[Q] How do I still use tablet speakers with HDMI out?

So got myself a micro hdmi mhl cable, connected to my monitor and get mirroring perfectly nice.
However, by default I know it will want to use the audio via the hdmi -- but my monitor has no speakers. Is there a setting where I can tell it to use my tablet speakers still?

Still haven't found a way, any suggestions?
Set of external speakers? I don't know of a way the use the n10's speakers with HDMI, but I did get some computer speakers (that I use for my raspberry pi) to work on the n10 with HDMI... The n10 worked well as a temporary replacement for my Raspberry Pi media centre while I modified the Pi's lego case

Yeah that's what I'm looking like I'm going to have to do. Need to get a USB OTG cable that doesn't block the headphone jack first though.
Was hoping maybe there was an app someone knew of, or a feature in a ROM that might allow you to select default sound output when there's multiple options.
