Sorry if this post is in the wrong thread.
Im running CM6.1 i have a 4gb sd card and i would like to move my apps/cache/dalvik to the and ext partition on my sd card. I understand there is more than one way to do this and i would like to know what is the best method for doing this. and also if someone could point me in the direction for some instructions for setting everything up that would be awesome.
The integrated a2sd in cm6.1 just insnt cutting it. i have maybe 50ish apps none that are huge and even with every app moved to the sd card that i possibly can im still having to delete things to install things.
thanks for any help in advance
I have an ext2 partition on my sdcard and flashed the cm-a2sd.zip. You could also try one of the available scripts or zips such as darktremor's or firerat's.

where can i download that?
Ok I partitioned my SD and flashed darktremors a2sd but it doesn't show up on my phone. I can't seem to find any instructions specifically for cm6. 1 and DT a2sd.

search around in the forums on the cyanogenmod website. that's where I found it, as well as the post for firerat's script
What ever I try to do, app 2SD just won't work. I've tried installing an update. Zip but that did not helped..
What could I do?

Same problem, try to move to sd card, Moving Error, tried with 2 partitions on Floyo, tried in Gingerbread and...Nothing..
try Link2SD
download from android market, u must created second partitions with Fat32 format in Sd card, and need standart ROM 2.1 rooted
just run apps, reboot.. but u must move apps manually by open Link2SD >click >created link
I found app2sd didn't work for me. So I used link2sd in stead. Had to create a partition on SD card first there is a thread that I used to do it. I now have 400mb on the SD card just for apps.
But you need to have full root to do it.

It did'n work for me, too.
But I tried, and figured out how to install it.
First, you need to partition your SD-card. Second, do the method, that they wrote, but when you open the adb shell, first write "su", and accept it on your phone. Then you can begin to run the script. This way, I could install it.
I've tried several times before, without the "su" command in the beginning, it doesn't work without it. Now, I'm happy, because it's working and I have some free space on my device
if ext2 doesn't work, try use ext3 partition for apps2sd
vice versa
Just give it a try again.

Ps: link is from youtube mobile as I sent it from my phone.
Guys be sure you have 2.1.1.A.0.6, otherwise it won't work cous of kernel dependencies.

okay first tell us what ROM are you using, what app2sd type that u try to use (native or with ext partition), and what steps have you took?
ps: if u're using racht's 2.2.1 ROM (that i think you do), app2sd with ext partition works perfect. just use app2sd.sh with moved dalvik-cache that someone posted in development section.
For me a clean installation and following the given steps carefully works. Floyo 0.15 has native app2sd and it works for sure
I use Link2SD. It is a pain in the a$$ when you update or move to SDcard but it works.
Steps to get it work: (For Windows and Noobs users only)
1. Download the Link2SD app from store
2. Download and install this program (it will make the partitions of your card) from here (it's free)
3. Connect your phone as a USB (mount your card)
4. Follow this video (it's not mine), but do not leave space for a "Linux Swap" partition (unless you want it)
5. Reboot your phone.
Tested and it works!
P.S.: I think that even if i had an EXT3 partition the Link2SD worked when i ckecked the EXT2 partition (in it's set up). Can someone confirm that?
Thanks To ysgace and all dev.

So it's taken a lot of reading from a number of different places but I figured out how to modify the boot.img in the Odin CODE tarball in order to flash with an edited init.rc. I realize that with this power I could have simply built a2sd into the boot.img but one step at a time. So for now, if you want a2sd for Gingerbread (S5830XXKPE) then files and instructions can be downloaded using

so do you have a2sd by Darktremor?
Whenever i try to create an ext2 partition in my sdcard, it is not being mount and i get a warning saying that the card should be formatted. if i give yes, it gets formatted as one single partition of FAT32.. Please help
I used MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition in windows for partitioning
for partitioning use gparted
Before upgraded to gingerbread ROM, it was 2.2.1 where there is a app name "link2sd" free from market, which it mount ext2 partition of sdcard and move per apps apk file to sdcard, of ext2 partition, this is more flexible then Darktremor.
Where with Darktremor, the external sdcard will never able to hot remove from phone and plug it back. Which make external sdcard pointless. remove sdcard card will kill / reboot the phone, given without sdcard, phone can not start up. Also slow performance issues.
Where link2sd allow you select large apk only link to external sdcard, when unplug sdcard the phone still works without reboot / halt.

I found so many noobs here in ace forum and so little developers and I want to help you. I come from optimus one forum and i like to help.
You need a custom recovery to create an ext partition and to make darktremor a2sd to worked. Amonra or clockworkmod recovery is the best. Then create an ext partition whether ext2, 3 or 4 then flash dta2sd from the darktremor a2sd thread here in xda(search it). The latest ver is 2753 beta 04.
Remember, without ext partition the dta2sd will not worked.
To check if your a2sd is working, download terminal emulator, press su then enter then type a2sd check.
Or download titanium backup agd check if it says a2sd space=???
Or the best way to check is by a2sdgui app, it is a official app from the dta2sd itself. If it says apps are on sd, then your a2sd worked. And if you guys still reducing memory even after moving apps to sd via a2sd gui app, its time to put the dalvik cache to your sdcard.
Fuh, thats a lot of writing on my phone. I love to help because i will buy galaxy gio soon.
Or maybe you guys should take a look at optimus one forum and learn how to make a custom kernel and rom there. Theres a very good thread on guiding how to build a custom rom and kerne. Im pretty surprise so many noobs here. Like i said i really like to help to improve this community

Hi,
Sorry if this question gets posted too many times but I am downloaded [12-Sep-201][MAG/cLK][CWM] NDT GINGER V16.0 [CM Nightly 2.3.5][Kernel: Tytung r12] which states A2SD+ is in list of features (and I think this is supposed to use my 1gb ext3 partition as internal memory) but I only have 153mb after installing a few small apps. I know my old rom gave me about 900mb free, and am lost as to how to fix this.
Any help would be great.
Many thanks.
But your SD card got a sd-ext partition?
Try to use "s2e" from the market to enable your sd-ext partition.
i've tried it on the desire of my girlfriend and it works... it is still working
Im having same problem over multiple roms using hyperdroid a2sd+ seems to work fime but tried the experia arc rom and another and both have no a2sd+ although chefs both say its supported
I have totally wiped phone and sd card re-partitioned and formated
i have a 1gb ext3 partition but using a2sdgui gives error saying a2sd script not found or ext partition not found when i do in fact have one ?
You guys could always try flashing A2SD to the ROM from CWM recovery. Just do a forum search for Darktremor A2SD
Use the 2nd to most recent version, the most recent has never worked for me
If you can't find it, let me know and I'll attach it in a post on this thread.
Edit: Got bored and came back and attached it. Just flash it via CWM
thanks very much m8 ill give it a whirl
forgot to mention, after you flash it, go into terminal emulator and enter: a2sd reinstall
it should say a bunch of stuff, then reboot. then it'll take a long time to boot up cause it's moving everything to your ext3 partition and creating symlinks
app2sd is working fine with me.. i have only one issue.. all those apps shifted to ext partition, are auto starting up and i cant disable them!!! i used most of apps that used to block startup apps. but those in ext partition keep showing up and slow down starting up of the device! any idea???

No, you don't have to delete it. The zip should automatically remove any previous scripts.
I've owned my OG EVO since launch day, and have been rooted/flashing various ROMs ever since.
I've always had the app "App2SD" loaded, to make moving apps to external storage easier.
Looking at flashing other ROMs recently, I noticed some talk about supporting A2SD naively, and scripts and such. What is the difference between using the app or this naive solution?

The app ur referring to only moves the data for apps to the SD card, if u use dark tremors a2sd it moves the entire app and all its data. U must have a partitioned SD card to use it though.

Hmmm... So DarkTremors A2SD is something that is built into the ROM? I guess I'm wondering how one would utilize that built-in capability after the ROM is loaded...
I didn't realize the Apps2SD only moved the data. It seemed to move the app too by looking at free space and how it was affected by using it...
if i understand it right... its not "included" in the rom. You need to download and flash the script, but the rom and kernel of most roms support it. It is well worth it. I did this not long after rooting. I partitioned my 32GB sdcard and flashed DT a2sd.

So I've made it through a couple of pages on the linked thread, and the answer may be there (but I haven't gotten to it yet)... How does partitioning the SD card affect Nandroid backups/restore or Titanium Backup, if at all? I know that Nandroid has an "SD-ext" option... I assume this is for backup/restore of the EXT formatted portion of the card? Are Nandroid backups stored on the FAT formatted partitions still?
Sorry for all of the questions; just things I thought of before trudging through 34 pages of forum posts...
Sent via Tapatalk on my E4G
Am i able to do this with the stock sd card that came with the evo ?
Yes, but unless your ROM supports Dark Tremors A2SD, the system won't be able to utilize the EXT formatted space on the card, from what I am gathering...

im running Miui. Think it supports it. Its just the how.
Unfortunately,I can't answer that yet. Haven't read enough of the previously linked forum topic

Nandroid and tb remain on the storage partition, the FATS32 or whichever one your recovery uses. The ext- partition holds just the apps and data. Wont affect your backups in any way to my knowledge. Remember to back up all your data you want to keep to your pc or something before partitioning as it formats your sd card first.

Thanks for the info!
Ive been using DT Apps2sd for a while now. I have the stock 8gb card that came with my evo and its partitioned for apps2sd. From what Ive always understood, what apps2sd does is it moves all your apps and the data for those apps to the ext partition of your sd card and it symlinks the apps to the phone so the phone actually thinks the apps are running from the internal memory even though it isn't. The advantage of the symlink is that it doesn't affect the apps' performance and widgets and such. The apps2sd app you speak of only moves the data to the sd card which can sometimes cause issues with apps' performance and widgets not working correctly. So, I recommend using DT apps2sd if you want more internal space without sacrificing performance.
Nice explanation I think my confusion had always been how it's utilized; with the app, I open it when I want to move something and it does it. With DT, it looks like you flash it, but after that I'm lost... Does it automatically install all apps to the SD anytime I initiate an installer action? Or do I need to do something to have the system install to the SD?
I'll find the answer in my reading I'm sure. Another 25ish pages, according to Tapatalk on my phone
Sent via Tapatalk on my E4G
Also am trying to find how to install this... Do you flash the ROM, flash A2SD, then simply reboot and all is well (assuming the ROM supports A2SD, and mounts SD-EXT during boot)?
here is some more info from what i understand. flash your rom, flash dt a2sd and reboot. once its all set, it automatically installs apps you download to the ext partition. also... if you decide to change roms, it is recommended to wipe the ext partition, but i never do and have had no issues. The only thing i have to do is once the new rom and a2sd are flashed and i reboot i have to install the terminal app and open it up any type the following commands...
su [ENTER]
a2sd reinstall [ENTER]
this reinstally the links to the apps... you can also move dalvik cache to the sd to free up more space.
a2sd cachesd [ENTER]
another helpful tool to make sure cache and apps are on the ext partition is apps2sd gui
you can get it from the market and it is just a graphical interface
here is a partitioning walkthrough if you need it.

After you flash DT, you would want to download terminal emulator from the play store and type the following commands:
Type "su" then enter
Then type "a2sd reinstall" (without the "" of course lol) then enter
After you do that, let the phone do its thing and it will reboot. After the reboot, you are good. All your apps should be moved to the ext partition on your sd card. If you want, you can also move your dalvik-cache to the ext partition by typing the following commands:
"su", enter
"a2sd cachesd", enter
Just like before, your phone will do its thing in terminal emulator and then it will reboot. After that, you're good! You should notice a HUGE difference in available internal storage after this.
*EDIT: I didn't even notice the post above mine until after i sent the post lol
dbenney/youngchris: You guys/girls (hey, I don't know...) put the missing pieces together for me I didn't realize that you had to run commands in terminal AFTER flashing your ROM and then DT (I've seen references to commands, but thought that they were similar to the old rooting/flashing guides back in the day, that required ADB push/pull commands before flashable zips became the norm). So...
There were a few ROMs I flashed 6 months or so ago, that 'required' A2SD and I didn't do it. Subsequently, the ROMs didn't have much free space, with all of the Sense 3.0-3.5, and ran like ****, so I went back to CM7. Now, I am putting this together, so I can get the E4G decked out (because we all know our EVOlt won't be around for a while) and am looking for sharp looking/behaving ROMs to make this old beast happy, and keep me satisfied until Customs gets off their lazy asses.
I just have to find a ROM that is nice enough now

There are plenty of good sense roms out there, but you really should try this one... Energy sense 3.5 rom march 15.... i used it before i switched to CIUI(base of CM7 with MIUI look/feel). Energy rom is very stable and fast, but also heavy and a2sd is a must to free up some space.
Do you know of any kernels that work with it? It uses the stock kernel, which, from what I've read, doesn't support DT A2SD...
