I have this weird problem with several applications (moat notably Evermore and Waepedia by Taptu) where the apps run a lot faster on 3g in comparison to WiFi. When I search for a note in Evernote it takes 60-90 seconds for it to be found on WiFi and almost that long to actually pull it up and on 3g it's almost instantaneous. Same with Waepedia searches.
I know the issue is not with the apps, because it happens in several different Alps and across versions. I have also seen the issue in several different ROMs. Does anyone else have the issue? Any ideas what might be going wrong?
Thanks!

I've tried with it on, but that doesn't change anything. Besides, in most cases I am 3 meters away from the WiFi access point and in clear sight of it.

Try using the speedtest.net (or the app) on WiFi, 3G, and another device on the same WiFi network.
EDIT: Are you using the best radio version for the different ROMs you are using, go into the bootloader (the only way I can remember) and see if it says the same radio version as what is recommended in the ROMs thread.

I've tested the speed on both connections - it's a lot faster on Wifi as expected. Radio could be a problem I guess, but I've tried 3 radios already and I am having the problem on both. Do you have Waepedia? Do you have this problem?
i dont have it but im not rooted thou

OK, Taptu has just replied to my bug report saying this is a known issue and they are working on it. I'll write to Evernote again now and see if they might be having the same issue...

Open your wifi, hit menu, then advanced, and you'll see a checkbox for "best wifi performance" (or something like that). You should check/enable this option for better performance (possibly at the risk of higher battery usage though).

First, as you can assume, i have the HTC Hero...since i was not satisfied with the 1.5 version ( android ) i updated it to 2.1 ( Eclair version )..now the problem is that when i add the APN settings, it starts the 3G network and i don't have any option to "close" it...on the 1.5 version i had a the Wifi, Bluetooth and i think Data connection, but now only the Wifi, Bluetooth... so in a summary, i can open and close the wifi and bluetooth but i can't regulate the 3G network, when i set it, it starts and there is no way to turn it off...
So does anyone has an idea how to solve this?
Thanks in advance
How about when you hold the power button, do you get the "Mobile Network" option to select there?

No, just the silent option, airplane, reboot or turn off...
The irony is that when i turn Wifi on, the 3G also turns on...but when i close the wifi the 3G still works...

Maybe ask in that thread.
Or flash a diff ROM and see if you still have the same issue.

Im using MCR3.2. (Link in my signature). Fast and stable,... No issues whatsoever. But it is still only an Android 1.5 ROM. I'm planning on adding the 768mhz overclock kernal to it tonight, hopefully will fly like a Legend then.
Ooops,... Sorry
You not the only one with this puzzling problem wkulen! Same rom as you, and it seems I can't close 3g even with that APNdroid is set to be off! It looks like it still using data from 3g - hope not otherwise it could be a costly mistake!
i've got the opposite problem...
ROM: current official...
My 3g or data internet connection sometimes doesn't turn on when I switch off the wifi. But it happens most of the time, but not all the time. What I normally do everytime is to go to Settings/Wireless controls/Mobile network settings/Network operators - and I "select automatically". Then my network data kicks back in. It's a hassle but I don't know what else to do.
Hi,
I am wondering if anybody has similar problems with wifi - 3g/data connection works perfectly, but when I am connected over wifi, after sometime the connection dies and I have to disable wifi and enable it again, in order to restore network access. I hoped that froyo would fix that, but as there is no froyo on the horizon I decided to ask.

Yes I get this too. The connection is still active but many apps suddenly decide to notify me that I need a WiFi/3G connection before I can use them. Turning WiFi off and back on fixes it. This also happens on my branded Desire running 2.1, which may imply it is related to the router settings. I will have to test on other routers. My WLAN is configured to 802.11g only, WPA2-PSK only (WPA-PSK and 802.11b not allowed) on channel 13.
actually great to know that i'm not the only one. i get this all the time, and i even emailed htc about this and response was retarded. they told me how to connect to my router. i tried pretty much everything on this issue. connect and reconnect, change channel from 13 to 11 or 14, nothing seems to be working. hopefully 2.2 will change all this.

i think the htc legend has the worst wifi reception for all phones of 300 $
havent noticed a single improvement with every update
I had this problem with my first legend. The touch screen malfunctioned so I brought it back and got a replacement. The new one is much better. I am very happy with it.
For instance, in my home office I could never connect with my first legend, it would say association failed when trying to associate with the AP. On my new one it works and I've had it sitting on the desk now for about 4 hours and I picked it up and unlocked it and the wifi worked immediately.
I very occasionally had this until I switched the wifi sleep policy to never after reading somewhere that it would actually increase battery life and haven't had this problem since. Not noticed any difference with battery life though I only switch wifi on when I need it and off when I'm finished.

For what it's worth, I have the same problem and I'm sure it's related to my phone, not the routers.
I hade no problems with this before my last OTA update...

i dont want to hijack the thread but is the wifi antenna like **** for everyone or is just me?
im thinking that it might be the aluminium case that shield the antenna because reception is unbeliavable bad
im curious to know if desire/nexus mount the same wifi antenna as legend
if you put static ip it works perferct for me

I only have a problem very occasionally with wifi, maybe once per month, and I think this has more to do with my crappy router than anything else.
I have the same problem with WiFi cutting out afters while even when the phone hasn't been moved and when its situated inches from the router
Sent from my HTC Legend using XDA App
Generally it is not good idea to have router and client too close together. That way radio noise increases and that's not good.
Thanks for the tip. but it does it downstairs too when Im watching TV the phone is well away from all electrical appliances, after toggling wifi bOFF/ON I get full signal strength.
Same here. After a few minutes normal browsing on Wifi, pages seem get so far then refuse to load. Only solution is to turn WiFi off then re-connect. The WiFi permission is set to never sleep. I'm not rooted and running stock wwe 2.3 ruu.

Anybody have any ideas how to resolve this issue? It's really frustrating having to re-connect wifi every 5 mins. Possibly to do with debranding to stock wwe 2.3 ruu from Vodafone?

Hi,
I apologize if it's the wrong forum or if I missed something in my search over the forums (and internet).
Current setup :
HTC Legend rooted, flashed with Azure 1.0.1 (cyanogen 6.0)
Kernel 2.6.29
Baseband 47.26.35.04u_7.05.35.26L
Issue :
For some reason I can't get my 3G connection stable. eg. When I enable Wifi - 3G drops (which is set up that way), but when I disable Wifi 3G doesn't come back up. Even though the settings are correct.
I'm having a hard time getting any mobile data correctly going, it generally requires me to enable/disable wifi and reboot the phone several times.
Basically I've tried factory resets, checking the settings (config of mobile networks too), it doesn't stay in 2G mode, ... I've test with other Cyanogen based roms and it's the exact same issue. Is it possible this is due to a radio being wrong or is it possible it's actually the phone?
So:
- 2G only is DISabled
- Mobile data is enabled
- wifi off
- settings (mobile connection parameters) are correct
- tried different roms
- checked in places I know I should get a good connection (My provider is Telenet, they use the Mobistar network, my previous provider was mobistar. So the coverage should remain the same.)
I am at my wits end and do apologize if this is a stupid question, but I can't think of anything else that could interfere with this.
Have you tried to leave the 2G/3G settings by default? That is, not to disable 2G. It is anyway switching to the best it can aquire, so if you have strong signal you should get allways 3G. I never had these problems with any ROM I've tried...nightly, Azure, RC1/RC2

Check this link, and join the others with the same problem...

Quick solution : put one of HTCs widgets for mobile network on your homescreen and as soon as you turn WiFi off toggle the mobile network widget and 3G should start working again . It's a hit or miss though.

Must have used the wrong keywords >.< Sorry. Though thank you for the link, it is EXACTLY the prob I am encountering. At least now I know it's not the rooting that caused it.
About the HTC widget : I've used it, but it's indeed a hit or miss. Best solution seems to switch to 2G and switch back to 3G that way.
Leaving all the settings at standard (and the most recent flash to the CM RC1) helped with the overall connectivity though.
Well i keep loosing singnal on my HD2:
Spec:
NAND HD2 CoreDroid HD V1.6 ANDROID 2.2.1
RADIO: 15.40.50.07U_2.12.50.02_2
NETWORK: ERA *POLAND*
Signal Strenght: -89dBm 14 asu UMTS
I can loose singnal for about 30 minutes and it wont find anything. Then obviously i get 0 dBm. I have had the newest radio but i have changed to that to see if it solves the problem, but it hasnt. So im kindly asking You guys for help and Your opinions.
Thanks
Try if switching to 2G networks only in the settings solves your problem, this did the trick for me.
I only switch it off for fast 3G downloading, solves the missed call issues for me too.

With all tho respect i havnt got an option USE ONLY 2G Networks. I have Downlaoded widget APN ON/OFF. It has switched it off Thanks
For me when I was in Poland radio 2.14 or 2.15 solved the problem.
I am now using 2.14, I can see that you are using 2.12 I would change that to be honest and install other radio, just experiment a little and see which one is best for you

True but i'm unsure if its a network related problem or android because i flashed so many roms with different radio's always experiencing the same data conection drop problem when 3G is on.
So i just flashed back to the stock nexus build to stay.
I wish i could use the full potential of my device too...
(The menu to switch on only 2G network is only available on stock android rom, not on sense roms etc as they use their own menu styles)

Im now definitely sure that its not a hardware related problem as i tried 4 different EU HD2's and they all had the same problem after flashing android.
Now it's only to find out if it's a radio - android compatibility problem or just a flaw in android itself.
Ok,, now again for the 10th time , i started over from task29 , up to installing radio 2.15.50.14,, then boyppc v25 rom,,, and i guess this worked for me, i still have the connection dropping but less often than it used to be. it happens maybe once a day.
isn't there a developer who can help us find out what is the problem and develop a solution for us???
I tried out both ROMs today (cm-10.1-20130714-Albinoman887-glacier and cm-10.2-20130824-Albinoman887-glacier). They look awesome, but my MyTouch 4G could no longer see 5GHz wifi APs afterwards. I reverted back to Gingerbread, and I could see 5GHz APs again.
Can anyone else corroborate this? If it's not just my phone, I'll patiently wait & see if that gets picked up in a future update.
Big thanks to Albinoman887 and everyone else for working on this in the first place.

Hm... it won't accept a 5GHz setting. If I set it to 5Ghz, hit "back," and then return to Advanced settings, it reverts to whatever it was previously set to (auto or 2.4GHz). Auto and 2.4GHz 'stick' just fine.
I think its a problem in 4.3 they are complaining of similar issues in n4 forum but some have it some don't

Gotcha, thanks for the info. I'll poke around in that forum.
it looks like the Albinoman887 roms are missing the fw_bcm4329_5GHz.bin in the /system/vendor/firmware/ directory.
its got fw_bcmdhd_apsta.bin
fw_bcmdhd.bin
and bcm4329.hcd (which should go in /system/etc/firmware/)
I think that might have changed in 4.3, since the guy also said he couldn`t see it in his 4.2.2 rom either. Maybe that file is in the system/vendor/ section now?
