Hi. i was wondering if anyone can help me out. i have the Spectec Mini SD WiFi card (SDW822 Mini SD, 802.11b standard). The card worked real well and now 6months later, it doesn't work. This is what i mean. anyone who uses it sees a green blinking light on its antenna and the device "sees" a hotspot and asks if i want to connect to it. Now, the light only blinks as if it is finding the correct setting, but doesn't pick up on a WiFi signal at all. Even sitting at my university in a "hotspot" in my student center, the card doesn't seem to be picking up the signal at all even though the appears the card is operational (the blinking green light).
i am not sure what to make of it, like if there is something busted inside the card or not, or is it my actual device (even though it worked for 6 months, why it doesn't work not i have no clue). i tried installing the drivers again, and even installing the latest driver provided by Spectec. nothing works though nor was their support much help (they just answered to uninstall and then reinstall the drivers but duh, i already knew that lol). can anyone let me know a solution like if i need to buy a new one or not? i miss having the WiFi on my ppc/phone and i don't have an unlimited data plan, plus even if i did, GPRS is painfully slow.
if this helps, my phone is an E-TEN G500 running Windows Mobile 5.0 (AKU 1.1.4). i hope i can hear a response soon. i may just end up having to buy a new one but i would like to hear anyone's thoughts. i hope you guys can help me!
by the way, i don't think it is my SD card port b/c i can still use any other card that i put in the slot with no problems like my GPS and the card i use to store my music and such.
Does anyone have anything to say? i tried their support again and still told me the same thing from their automated e-mail then send out and its really frustrating. even more so, no one has been able to say anything about to respond to this thread. please let me know anything that could lead me to a solution. i dont want ot have to buy another card to see if it works or not.
I guess no one wants to help me i guess these forums are useless if no one wants to help one another. i was hoping this would be a simple solution. i am gonna have to buy another card and see if it is my original card or if it is my device. i even upgraded the OS to AKU 2.2 but still nothing with my original card.
thanks everyone for your help
Anyone else have this issue? Does is mount on a PC?
I'm having the same issue. The phone will go to mount but OS X wont see the phone at all. G1 still mounts fine under OS X but not the Galaxy S. It does mount fine on the PC though. Had to do that to transfer the music from my G1 to it. If anyone could possibly shed light on why its not mounting we'd be really appreciative.
You need to turn on USB debugging (under Applications>Development). Didn't have to on the G1, but for some reason, this works and is necessary for now on this phone.

You are the ****in man, thanks. **** was really starting to cheese me. I had a feeling it was something dumb.
Yup, that was it, thanks!
Worked for me, though I am getting tired of all this
Worked for me too, but damn. I just bought a Samsung Vibrant from an iPhone 3G. First, I am seeing a bunch of issues with GPS, which are forcing me to root it (which I am ok with) and now it will not mount on OSX. I thought I was a retard, but, turns out, the phone might be too configurable for my tastes.
I am of an experience level to deal with all this, though I think I a reaching an age where I don't have the time to.
My windows is 32bit XP, but try this trick. Say into voice dialer "Open SD card" -> check "Enable USB mass storage". Let's know if it works

Thank you! I can finally access the internal storage now. Do you know if there is a way to get rid of the constant warning in the info bar about being in debugging mode?
Hello,
The Android 2.1 RUU update from Sprint ("HTC Sprint Hero MR 2.27.651.6.exe") caused USB connectivity between my Sprint HTC Hero and my PC to stop functioning. I followed all directions while performing the RUU update (and I'm fairly tech-savvy). Everything functions perfectly well with the exception of USB connectivity. The menu that normally appears when the phone is connected to the PC (options for "Charge only", "Disk drive", etc.) does not appear on my phone. The phone charges while connected, however, and USB connectivity DOES indeed function in FastBoot mode. So, it's not the USB cable or the phone's hardware.
I am not the only individual with this problem. There is a lengthy thread about it on Sprint's official community forums: google.com/search?q=sprint.com%3ALoss+of+USB+connectivity+from+HTC+Hero+to+Windows+PC+after+Android+2.1+update
I was able to root my phone and install a custom ROM without the ability to connect my Hero to my PC. I did this with the use of another Hero (I have two identical models in my household). I intend to post instructions for others to follow, once I find reliable solution.
I installed the "EXTBLUE_04SEP.zip" ROM using the "recovery-RA-heroc-v1.6.2.img" image. Surprisingly, I still have no USB capabilities, even though USB continues to function as expected when the phone is in FastBoot mode.
When I first called my local Sprint service location about this problem (several months ago), they said, "We're aware of this problem. It will take a couple of hours to fix. We need to restart the USB services on the device." I'm not exactly sure to which services he was referring, which is why I've come for help. It's worth noting that one customer in the sprint.com thread said that the store could not fix his phone (big surprise) and that they had a new phone shipped to him.
Having the phone replaced seems silly. With root access to the device, there must be some diagnostic process I can follow in order to determine which USB-related services are failing to start.
I find it odd that the lack of USB connectivity would persist across different ROMs, but after all, they are based on the same Android builds.
I even formatted the ext partition, cleared all user data, etc. before updating the ROM. The ROM works beautifully... except for USB.
I am deeply appreciative for any insights that the experts here may be able to offer.
Thank you in advance.
If you are running 2.1 I would try usb switcher from the market. There are some other usb mount widgets, some are free and some are paid. I do not know if usb switcher works on the Hero, but i was using a widget that I just clicked on to enable usb. If you are on 2.1 do a search in market for usb and you should find some.
Go download PDANet from here: http://www.junefabrics.com/android/
Install that on your computer, and then when it wants you to connect your phone, connect it. It should install the drivers for you. Then you should be able to use your phone with your comp
Thank you both for your replies.
I tried downloading the only free USB mounting app from the Market, but it crashes on launch. Others have complained about the same behavior in the app reviews.
Further, it seems as though such apps are simply replacements for the included "USB switcher" app that asks the user what to do when the phone is connected to a computer. Given that my core USB functionality is "dormant" (or outright busted), I suspect that these apps will have no effect, even if they worked as designed.
PDANet brought no joy, either. I installed the software and it never detects that the phone is connected.
I should clarify on a couple of points. I have another HTC Hero (also Sprint CDMA) that I also updated to 2.1 (via official RUU) and its USB port functions absolutely fine on the same computer. This fact indicates that it's:
a) not the USB cable
b) it's not the PC (and therefore not HTC Sync, drivers, etc.)
In other words, the drivers are installed on the PC, and function as expected with anyone else's Hero. My Hero never "presents itself" to the computer, so the result is the same, whether or not drivers are installed on the PC.
Any other thoughts? Thanks again for your responses.
I found the following information regarding the USB kernel module in Ubuntu. Perhaps unloading the module would be useful in this situation, too. In Ubuntu, it's
Code:
# modprobe -w -r usb_storage
# modprobe usb_storage
I suspect that the USB kernel module in Android goes by a different name. Does anyone know what it might be?
Thanks again.
I decided to go a different route here.
I thought about attempting to restore the phone to the condition it was in when I received it, to see if USB would once again function with the older software. After all, USB was fine until I ran Sprint's RUU for Android 2.1.
The phone shipped with "RUU_Hero_C_Sprint_1.29.651.1.exe" or similar, I believe. But when I tried to run that RUU in "FastMode", the installer failed with "Bootloader version mismatch" (error message may not be verbatim).
So, I decided to try installing the same software that "bricked" my USB functionality in the first place (downloaded from Sprint's website). Surprisingly, that RUU executable ("HTC Sprint Hero MR 2.27.651.6.exe") actually worked for restoring my phone to a suitable condition in which to bring it to a local Sprint store.
It looks like replacing the phone is the only real option when the 2.1 update wrecks the phone's USB functionality.
The most curious bit is that RUUs install perfectly fine over FastBoot. The USB-related hardware is obviously functional if it works in FastBoot mode. The question is why doesn't USB function in ANY ROM (including the official Sprint ROMs)?
I've given-up. I'll report back after I return from the Sprint store. (In other words, there should be no means by which the store is able to determine that I rooted my phone at any point, and thus my warranty should still apply.)
The only reason I mentioned an app to toggle mounting the sdcard is that when I was messing with apps on my phone I deleted one that toggled the choice of charging, mounting, etc. I have extended controls and they have a switch for mounting the sdcard and it worked. There was also some others that i have that worked, but are no longer available in the market.
Makes perfect sense, unCoRrUpTeD. It was a solid suggestion, and I do appreciate your willingness to assist.
I just returned from the Sprint store and they told me that a) the liquid submersion strip had been tripped (it was bright red) and that b) there's a crack at the base of the phone, immediately adjacent to the USB mini port. The technician stated that either of those items could be the cause of the "malfunctioning" USB port.
In other words, they blamed me, told me that my 1-year limited warranty that covers manufacturing defects does not apply (because of the submersion strip and crack) and that I'll have to file an insurance claim if I want a fully-functional phone. I don't feel like I should have to pay a $100 deductible to replace a phone that Sprint's own update wrecked. I sincerely doubt that the USB port ceasing to work immediately after the 2.1 update was a coincidence.
Given that this phone has never been exposed to any type of liquid, and that it's never been dropped (it lives in a silicon case that protects it heavily from both types of damage), I'm a little irked. The silicon case probably traps moisture, hence the tripped submersion strip, and my buddy's Hero cracked in the exact same spot, next to the USB port.
I guess the case on this one is closed for now: I'll have to live without the ability to connect to the phone to the PC. At least FastBoot ROM installations still function.
Thanks again for the help.
You might want to try this and then run the 1.56 RUU and see if it fixes the problem.
Another thing you could try is adbwireless. This will work if you have a wireless router. Download it from the market and then connect your phone to your wireless router. Start adbwirelss and it will give you an ip address. You type this into either the cmd window or terminal and then you can use adb to push or pull crap from your phone. You might also be able to use droid explorer if you are using windows and just do the adb connect xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:5555 and then use droid explorer to see everything.
I *just* installed Samsung Kies to use with my T-mobile vibrant. The software downloaded just fine.
I installed it, and as soon as I ran the software, my internet connection (I used a USB 802.1g wireless adapter) conked out.
Nothing I did (release, renew, disabling and enabling the adapter) helped.
So, I rebooted my PC. Internet connection came up like normal....until I doubled clicked the kies icon in the systray to run the software again. All of a sudden I lost internet connectivity again.
Going to try it one more time after posting this message. If it knocks out my connection again, then I will take back every nice thing I have ever said about Samsung.
That is weird. Kies should affect your wifi network card, since they are not really related at all. Also, it didn't do anything to my network connection.Try uninstalling it and reinstall?
un-f*cking-believable.
I ran Kies right after making that post and couldn't connect to anything on the internet.
A disable/enable through the Windows XP control panel got me back up and running.
My guess would be that the software somehow locks down data/communication to the USB ports. My USB wireless adapter (an Airlink101) couldn't get a DHCP lease with Kies running.
I will be uninstalling Samsung's piece of **** software immediately. Another screw-up by a delusions-of-grandeur company that should stick to making TVs (and nothing else).
There is no excuse for data sync software to break the IP stack on a PC. Utterly ridiculous.
I will be sure to give Samsung products a wide berth in the future

Set a static while you need the software. Whats the big deal.
That won't work. XP sends a DHCP request at windows log-on and gets a lease for a few hours/days (depending on how you have your router set up).
After your machine gets the IP lease, the stack treats it like a static IP.
The Kies software has some buggy USB interface code. It should poll the USB for devices it recognizes and then initialize whatever protocol for authentication/tranfser/whatever...... instead Kies' polling function is somehow actively disrupting communication on the USB (i don't write drivers, so i'm not familiar with the applicable functions or routines).
Basically, hard-coding a static ip wont' do anything. My machine still has the correct IP when Kies starts. It is only after a user-initiated DHCP release that it cannot get a new lease from my router.
Other machines on my network are unaffected (including my Vibrant), so I know its my PC and I knows it is Kies causing the problem.
I have already uninstalled it. If I ever meet a Samsung employee then they'll get an earful about how bad their company sucks.
I made this post for other people who might have the issue and not realize that the Kies software is causing their problem (it auto-starts itself when you boot up windows, so less savvy users might not realize what is going on until they disable it)
So.. did you try it before you replied? You seem to need to prove how much you know about windows networking... so i dont assume you will try anything and will continue to mislead and place blame as you see fit.
I know enough about PC's to know to IMMEDIATELY uninstall software that arbitrarily knocks out your internet connection. Wrangling with it just isn't worth it unless you need it for something. Besides... how am I doing to download a firmware update if Kies has killed off my PC's internet connection?
Its bug-ridden crapware and I am far from the only person who has had problems with it. As a matter of fact, half the people who run Kies can't even get it to recognize their phones properly.
I'm not trying to prove anything to anyone. The extra information is there in case anyone wants to try to fix the problem. -I'm not going to waste my time fixing Samsung's mistake.
As for blame... its pretty obvious where the blame should go. I'm not having any connection problems since removing the software.
Samsung sucks. Plain and simple.
You are an isolated case, seems to be only one complaining about it. I bet it's because you uses a USB wireless adapter, not that many people have that technology anymore.
.....................
Do your own tests. Run the software and see if it affects any of your other USB devices.
Lol at the IRQ conflict or bandwith suggestions. Nope, that's not it.

You keep blaming Samsung, which is typical behavior. Meaning when someone had a problem they try to find someone to blame instead of taking ownership.
You could have updated your wireless nic drivers (or whatever nic was problematic) and then checked to see if there are known issues with Keis and whatever vendor and chipset you use.
Trying half way doesn't help anyone.
Im not saying it not possible that samsungs Keis software causes problems with certain configurations. Im saying exhaust all the troubleshooting options before staking your claim against the big bad phone maker.
Keep in mind you are trying to get something nonofficial to the vibrant to work. So its on you if there are problems.
.............................
I did just help people. I just told them about yet another in the long line of bugs that Kies has.
Only fan-boys would defend a product which is known for for having tons of problems.
Keep bumping this thread, though. hopefully other people with the same problem will see it and uninstall Kies if it causes issues for them
...........................
Really. How are people without internet connections going to post on the message board?
Besides that, someone has to be the first one to report any problem. No one believed the first guy who said the Xbox360 was buggy either
If you don't have anything helpful to add to the thread (except for not not believing me), then maybe you should ask yourself why you're still replying. It takes a big man to comment on a problem he's never seen, and doesn't understand, and decide that he knows better than someone who has experienced the issue first-hand.
Lol, maybe you're a Samsung programmer? That would explain a lot! No wonder Kies sucks so bad.

You don't know what you're talking about anyway.

The only reason he's even arguing with you is because you came off as a **** when you said LOL to his post (he even said MAYBE).
There IS nothing to argue about here, it works for some and not for others.

hi, new here and new owner of a fascinate and its driving me nuts. im trying to find this file ToolLauncher-Bootstap.exe so i can correctly mount with the usb. apparently ppl around the internet are saying the latest update broke the usb mounting. any help very appreciated thanks
Look for the other forum topic about the update stopping usb mounting, there is a link in there on page 6 I think, it takes you to ste-by-step instructions on how to fix it. The ToolLauncher-Bootstrap.exe will show up once you hook your phone to your computer and it shows up as a cd...explore the 'drive', and it'll be there. Also, setting your phone to ask before connecting will apparently help too...I haven't tried that part yet though. Hope that helped...
any idea where it is? im having trouble finding it
mods you can close this i managed to fix things
Test 5 kernels from HERE fix that.
good day.
