Nevermind I reflashed the stock signed kernel through clockwork and I'm good to go

Forgive me, but I'm still learning about android development and modifications. I'm currently running JT1134's Super Clean (off ROM Manager) with stock kernel.
What I'm trying to figure out is this:
If I flash the blackhole rom with JT's non-voodoo kernel, will restoring to an earlier backup replace the stock kernel/any kernel that was there before the new kernel?
It should restore you to your previous kernel when you restore your backup.

Unless this has been fixed in the past few days it will restore your ROM, but not your kernel. I highly doubt that it can. So actually im positive it will not restore your kernel. It will on other phones but not Galaxy S phones.

Any rom before SuperClean 2.7.x is pre-edify.

That totally didnt answer the OP's question.
Edify is the scripting language for flashable zips used by CWM 3.x. Edify supposedly works with earlier versions of CWM. If you have CWM 3.x you will not be able to use zips with scripts with Amend.

Is amend the previous version zips used?

Yes. Edify scripts are somewhat backwards compatible (most things work, but not all), but amend scripts are not forward compatible.
Given your current configuration...probably both will work for you, but the previous ' flavor' is more likely to be compatible than the edify....too many issues still in going to CWM3....save the headache when u look to do other stuff

So right now we are using an older version of ext4 only (modded for converting) cwm3 and our rommanager doesnt work. We want the official newest clockworkmod and a working rommanager.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk
ok if anyone is wondering about this to load the new gingersense roms you must update your clockworkmod version to 3.0.0.8 with rom manager...AND YOU ALSO MUST HAVE HBOOT .92 UPGRADE IF YOU DONT...clockworkmod 2 will not work because gingersense is edify script.also one more not don't use rom manager to flash roms flash them manually!!
thanks for the heads up and nice and bold lol
From where i can download?

Is it true that if you update HBOOT to .92 that backups made with any earlier HBOOT (.72 or .77) versions will NOT restore, regardless of CWM version?
So, if you flash .92 HBOOT, you cannot restore backups unless you flash back to the earlier HBOOT, correct?
If all that's true, how does CWM 3.0.8 figure into that if you want to flash an old backup?

I have been using cw2.x to flash gingersense Roms with out issue. My understanding is that edify was backwards compatible. Did something change in this?

Can anyone confirm, if you upgrade hboot, backups made with earlier versions cannot be restored?

That is correct.
This thread simply is wrong, I've flashed every gingersense rom to date on 2.5.1.2 and have never had to wipe or flash anything more than once.
I also have been using 3.0.0.7 with no issues

Hboot.92. Rec 3.x. need check that

This is only partially true. Some gingersense roms still use the old scripting. For instance the nightlies for WarmZ require CWM2: Link.
Unless gingersense refers to Sense 3.0 specifically... but I thought it was sense on gingerbread.
or you can use cmw 3.0.0.7. it worked for me.
Not trolling. Just giving people the option.
And 2.5.x.x has been working for me... Go figure.

I'm not sure why, using CWR 3.0.0.8, but I've had to go into "mounts and storage" and manually format /boot, /system, /data, and /cache or I get terrible FCs when flashing any GingerSense ROM.

Ive also been having to go to mounts and storage to manual format stuff. Im using 3.0.0.7 I was told to use that one if I had OLED
HBOOT .92 is apparently required, but from what I've been told, if you have an AMOLED screen use CWM 3.0.0.7 and for SLCD use 3.0.0.8.
for my amoled, I found 3.0.0.7 works better than .8
Im flashing different kernel in my simply honey 3.5 JVH. Using sgs kernel flasher and after trying out 3 different kernel. And went back and flash one of my kernel backups. The stock kernel that comes with the rom. My home button does work but dont have haptic feedback. But the rest works perfectly. I know somebody can point me what did i mess up in my phone. And give me a good fix.... thanks in an advance...

The kernel with that rom is a custom kernel and key layout is designed in the rom for it only. If you've done the back up and don't have haptic that's very odd as haptic is now native to Samsung GB. I suggest re-flashing the kernel by using sgs kernel flasher and choose the rom zip as the kernel. It will auto extract only the kernel.
Other than that you can reflash the rom by simply flashing cf-root 3.2 and then use cwm app to flash the rom. It wont do a wipe this time because the new script will auto detect that you already have 3.5 so all your settings and apps will remain intact.
