New sprint rom?? http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=10293&page=3
http://download.america.htc.com/RUU_...PL106_Ship.exe
It's been confirmed. That is the new official ROM for Sprint. It fixes the Bluetooth issues among others. No Rev. A or GPS of course, but that was expected.
question is, is this really "better" than the alltel rom that has been available for a long time already over at PPCgeeks...
The alltel rom fixed the BT and alarm problem as well. I'm excited to see that Sprint finally caught up, but I'm wondering if this is better than the setup I currently have.
Well I for one am happy and upset.. I would like to see REV A , as I need the faster upload speeds for sending big files from my 4gb micro sd.
I havent tried the Alltel rom, but the new sprint rom fixes the keyboard lag + wm6 responsiveness problems.
After reading all of the threads over at PPCGeeks, it seems like there are some mixed results on the ROM (to be expected I guess, you can't appease everyone.)
-Most are reporting the BT fix worked correctly.
-I didn't see anyone say that the Alarm fix didn't work
-People are reporting that the OS seems a little faster and better at managing memory, such as reclaiming more when you close an app, etc.
-The radio version on the Sprint ROM is 1.47, compared to 1.40 of the Alltel, some were reporting better reception between this one and the stock rom (1.32 I believe)
-the most widely spread issue I saw was that some users were having issues with their dpad not working. At first, someone pinned it down to sprinttv, as it worked after they removed it, but then others said that the problem returned.
-YMMV, but some reported that when they skipped the sprint customization of the rom (when it starts initially, after the 3 second delay where you can soft reset) it caused issues on their phone. One person said that a workaround for this was to let it install EVERYTHING initially, and then do a hard reset and skip the customization process. It makes sense that if it were something with the EXTRom that it might put something in there that you needed, but again, not sure on this one.
-I can't believe how many people were stuck on the idea that they would be able to use Sprite Backup or SPB Backup to restore all of their stuff. Let me say this again, because I don't think it can be said enough. Unless you are just restoring folders such as your documents or something non-system related, you CANNOT use these programs. You WILL overwrite the new files with the old ones, causing a boatload of issues, if it even works at all. So don't do it, or you will cause yourself some headaches. Activesync remembers the apps you have installed, so just sync afterwards and click the boxes. For your other stuff such as contacts, back those up with a contact backup app or sync with outlook if you've got it.
just my two cents.

i took the plunge yesterday, i skipped out on all the sprint customization and everything turned out ok....haven't tested bluetooth yet but everything you said seems to be on point...

Just to clarify this is part. A hard reset will completely erase any carrier customizations there is absolutely no reason for installing extrom, hard resetting then skipping. Just start out with the hard reset, skip customizations and you'll be good to go.
Although there are still the other bugs with the update =)
Just installed it a while ago, skipped the sprint customizations, everything seems to be running good and actually noticeably quicker than before. New startup screen is cool too, no problems thus far =)
do yourself a favor and wait for the next rom. If you didn't already experiance it, your device will lock up and go to sleep requiring a soft reset...very unusable. and BT will turn off after a few minutes randomly.
load the colonel's rom on, it's much better imho
Seems to only happen to some people though. I have had my phone on pretty much straight since the rom update.
there seems to be a major bluetooth issue where the BT just shuts off periodically.. Not sure how,but they found a way to make bluetooth even worse!
I can't carry on a conversation without BT shutting off on me.. (or use the gps without it shutting off/etc..)

I haven't updated yet, plan to over the weekend, but I would suggest anyone having problems to stop and consider their setup first...
1. What programs are installed that could cause problems?
2. What registry hacks have been done that may cause problems?
3. What configuration settings might need reset that may cause problems?
For example, after a hard reset, Enhanced Network over USB is enabled by default, and this often causes Active Sync to have issues. Likewise, power management tweaks will have reverted to defaults and you may like a more finely tuned setup.
As for memory leaks being better/worse, you may have programs installed that are out of date/buggy.
I realize it's easier to jump on the "this sucks" bandwagon, but it doesn't help you or other users with legitimate problems when no consideration is given to what is causing a given problem.
These situations are precisely why the instructions tell you that EVERYTHING will be erased. This is a good thing since it forces you to clean house, but it also means you have to pay attention to those things you often neglect or may have changed ages ago and forgotten.
Finally, if all else fails, try the ROM update again. Sometimes things go wrong.
Sorry if this seems like a rant, I just want people having issues to place blame where it truly belongs. After considering these matters, if you still have problems, definitely let HTC and the rest of us know.
Best Regards,
Aaron

My experience is as simple and "vanilla" as it gets:
-Loaded new ROM
-Hard reset
-Stopped customizations
-Installed NO apps, did not turn on BT, made no calls, did nothing else
-3 DSODs in 4 hours
-Did a second flash (from a second computer with a freshly downloaded ROM)
-Hard reset
-Allowed customizations to run
-Again no apps, BT or calls
-DSOD within an hour

Sounds atypical to me, given that most users are updating without issue and experiencing better results. I have no reason to doubt your experience though... it sounds like you have faulty hardware, but here's a download link to the previous firmware if you're interested in trying it out first:
http://www.htcamerica.net/support/mogul/software-downloads.html
No, "most" users are not experiencing better results. I've been using this ROM with poor results, as have many others. Read this thread for many sad tales of woe:
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=10302
Basically, the new ROM does fix a bunch of things, but breaks others, so I would not recommend installing this ROM.
1) Locks up when changing from Sprint to roaming. You can test this by manually switching from Sprint to roaming and back a few times, you WILL get a phone lockup.
2) BT turns off randomly for many users.
3) Turn on BT, let unit sit for a few minutes until it goes to sleep, turn unit back on, dpad no longer works. I have seen this myself many times.
Don't install this update --- use the Alltel ROM or wait for another update.

1) You're incorrect in stating that most users have no problems, etc. Some do, some don't. Read the posts at ppcgeeks, pdaphonehome, BAW, hofo. I am not at all alone in having problems.
2) I downgraded 2 days ago, and my Mogul runs fine again - just exactly like it did for the 1st 3 months I had it. It's not my hardware! It's a bad ROM release.
Not everyone uses the phone in the same way at all. So of course some people will not see the same problems that others do.
If you never use Bluetooth and never roam, then this ROM will work for you. Otherwise, it will cause problems. For me, Bluetooth works much better in 2.09, and I rarely if ever see lockups as I have with 2.16. So, I'm going with 2.09 for now. The alarm problem IS fixed in 2.16 but I never use alarms on my phone so it's not an issue for me. Freezes when roaming ARE a problem.

is colonels rom built on the alltel core rom? if so it may be our best bet as of now.
Hi there,
I have a Palm Treo T850. I upgraded it with the 28014 ROM. It works pretty well, but the device hangs several times a day and I need to reset it every time.
Any info about that?
Thanks in advanced,
Wilson.
That sent me shock vibes buddy when I saw you mentioning 29XXX...lolz
Anyway I suggest you to change the radio along with its spl. Try changing the ROM if that doesn't help either.
same problem here...
it hangs, remains frozen on standby clock screen....
everything is OK when using stock 6.1rom
could it be related to mem card perhaps? i used it without mem card but with older 6.5rom - it worked without freezing...
i've just remembered that now
Mine doesnt have a memory card, and it crashes all the time - needing me to take out the battery - so that's not it.
Other 6.5 builds for me havent been functional in different ways so this one, other than freezing a few times a day - has been the most functional of the other builds on this forum. Crashes are annoying and sometimes I miss calls due to not knowing the phone has slept with the fish.
Its been a while since this one was out so I was hoping to see a new build or two to try and improve the reliability but nothing for the past month.

DisableSyncSchedule.cpf seems to work for me, thanks!
1- Hello guys, I have an T-Mobile USA HD2. I love it but it freezes like crazy, 2-3 times a day if not more. I ran Task 29 to delete every possible trail of previous roms followed by a hard reset but nothing. It will still freeze.
2- I also have a lot of signal problems. Its constantly changing from 3G to Edge on the same location. I know that is not normal so I spoke to T-Mobile and they changed the SIM card but it will still change the signal back and forth. I re-flashed couple of radios but nothing, I only accomplished to drain more battery.
3- BSB Tweaks is an awesome app but there are issues with the Rotation Option. If I enable Rotation to the "Start" -> "home screen" the photo album and music will be affected because the already come with landscape support. I tried to disable the landscape support for these using a registry editor but did not find a way.
Is there any solutions for these problems? Any help will be very much appreciated, not only from be but as well from others with the same or similar problems. Thanks in advance to all of you.
Note: I noticed the recently released TMUSA HD2s come with a yellow reset button. I bought my back on March when they sold out Nation wide with in the firs 4 hours and it comes with a RED reset button. This might explain a lot. If you know something please share. Thanks!
I would like to know if there is help for freezing issue.
I also did Task 29, flashed few different radios, few different roms incoluding stock, and it still happens. If my phone freezes I have to try for 20 minutes to restart it, as it hangs everywhere starting with bootloader, to manila.
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!
I had a similar issue as well and it turned out to be a cab file I had installed that was not compatible for my ROM. I had to go through and isolate which cab it was by using the date it was added and when I noticed the issues.
When your phones freeze....does it do it radomly or while trying to access or carry out anything specific. Your problem could be caused by any number of reasons but giving as much detail regarding your problem keeps you from getting so frustrated trying all sorts of fixes. Out of curiosity what ROM's are you both currently running?
I am currently using Elegancia ROM from August 23. Before I was using Energy ROM. I tried newest, stock Rom for T-Mobile HD2 but it didn't solve the issue.
I tried reinstalling HSPL, but it didn't help either.
The problem started after I put Ubuntu 0.2 on my sd card. I was playing with it for a little and it suddenly rebooted my HD2. I though, OK, no big deal, it's just in infant stage.
So I booted Windows again (energy rom with 2.12 radio) but it hanged while Sense was loading. I wasn't able to get it back to life after few reboots so I did a hard reset (vol up/down power on) It worked fine.
My problem mostly happens when I run android and when it reboots for some reason I can't get back to windows. It hangs, sometimes it hangs on bootloader before it even shows me radio and data version!! sometimes it goes past bootloader and hangs right after sense launches, and sometimes it is perfectly fine.
It also seems that when I just use WinMo it is fine, I can power down, and soft reset without major issues. But after running android I get that issues, especially when Android crushes.
I am thinking that android may be corrupting some WinMo files, but how is that possible? Android doesn't have access to NAND so technically it shouldn't prevent WinMo from booting on bootloader level.
Please let me know if you need me to explain more.
Thanks for your help
KML
PS. I don't have any custom cabs installed at this point. I have super fresh and clean installation of elegancia rom
Yeah...Android may be the culprit. I have shyed away from trying it because I have talked to quite a few people (not on XDA) that have tried it on the HD2 and they have the same issues. The Android OS really makes the HD2 unstable. I personally am going to hold off on the Android bandwagon until a little more time passes, after all WinMo works just fine for me. Try just running on WinMo and see what happens. Based on what you have said, it runs fine as long as you are not using Android
yeah, it's is good idea to stay away for some time. But Android development needs testers. If no one is willing to test than there will be no improvement.
What I can't understand is that even after I do hard reset I still get freezes.

Yeah I agree with you on Android development needing testers. I do rely on my phone a lot for work purposes and I can't always afford to have the phone freezing up constantly.
Are you hard re-setting with the Android OS still installed?
Technically it is still installed but it is only present on the SD Card, and not anywhere else so it shouldn't matter. Next time I get freeze I will try to remove SD Card before hard resetting.
I tried booting few times with SD Card taken out, but it didn't help.

I have the same issue...i'm using energy rom and i noticed that lately its freezing like hell...at least twice a day...!! NRGZ already notice the freezing issue and is trying to solve it...but it still crashes. I'm constantly changing the rom as he updates...and right now i'm running the August 25.
Sometimes it crashes while being turned off...and i need to take the battery off to restart.
I had the same issue, all i did loaded a diff rom and formatted my sim card problem solved
I did format my SD Card many times. Did not help. I used recommended FAT32.
Yesterday my phone froze when I was trying to add program shortcut to Sense... silly.
I rebooted phone, it booted fine, but hang as soon as I went to check my TXT messages. Rebooted again and it is working fine until now.
I currently have Elegancia ROM with 2.12.50 radio, have not been using android for couple of days, but it is still there on my SD Card.
It is getting a bit frustrating. I wonder what else I can try to make it stop freezing.
KML
My phone rebooted again yesterday.
I couldn't boot to windows for the next 20 minutes... I tried about 10 times before it worked. 2 or 3 times it booted windows and froze as soon as I clicked on one of sense tabs.
I haven't played with Android for past week and the freezing problem is still an issue. I even removed andorid form my SD Card.
When all this happened I was just using skyfire to browse internet.
I am hopeless at this point. I have no idea what else I could try to make it stop rebooting and freeezing.
Any ideas?? I would greatly appreciate any help.
PS. I recently found a thread about a tool that searches for corrupt files on Android devices after clean flash, is there something similar available for WinMo?
Here is the thread I am talking about:
http://www.xda-developers.com/android/fixflash-rom-flash-verify-and-repair-tool/
screen doesn't respond to touch
I just started having this issue today. I have used darkstones most recent build from the 18th. it has worked perfectly till today. I use energy roms. i just installed a older rom today still have the same problem. this problem appears weither in droid or winmo. All the hard keys still function and the phone can receive calls. Thanks for any help you may be to lend.
my phone just froze again.
All I did was take it out of my pocket and unlock screen, and there it is: FREEZEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
Funny thing is that Android doesn't freeze for me... it crashes sometimes, but never freezes. It is only WinMo that freezes on me or doesn't boot. Android always boots.
I really wish the NAND was accessible so I could flash Android to NAND and forget about WinMo

you, me and 17,000+ HD2 owners are all wishing for that exact thing
Your issue with the freezing/rebooting is stumping me too. You've flashed different ROM's, including stock, done hard resets, checked the battery pins, reformatted the SD card and even tried running the phone without the SD card inserted...do I have all that right? The fact that it doesn't show the symptoms when running Android just makes it that much more mysterious. I'd say it all points to a hardware issue, but if it doesn't act that way when you're in Android, that (probably) shoots that theory out of the water. But, at the same time, running task 29 and reflashing different ROM's should also have eliminated any possible software-based causes, so....
the only thing that comes to my mind is micro SIM card. I did an upgrade on my ATT account to get iPhone (traded for HD2) and those fu...ers at ATT wouldn't let me keep my regular sized SIM card. I had to use my old SIM card and cut it's inside to place micro sim in it. I used a regular sied SIM to hold micro SIM in place.
I don't think however that this is a problem because I believe my phone froze few times before I did that SIM card swap besides, I have no issues with phone calls or reception both in Android or WinMo.
I am clueless at this point.
I just got another Android version and will try it to see how it works. If I have any problems I will try using my wive's SIM card to see if it helps with freezing and WinMo booting.
KML
EDIT: ANDROID just rebooted itself. 2 minutes after clean installation. geee, I am leaning towards Hardware being the issue.
What I did is:
1. open browser
2. go to google
3. search for speedtest
4. open speedtest.net
and Android rebooted itself and now my phone can't go past Tmobile bootloader logo (pink square with 'stick together' letters)
I will put different SIM inside now and try everything again

Good call, that's about the only other thing to try. However....have you tried running WM with sense disabled, to see if it still has the freezing/rebooting issues? That might at least narrow the problem down to something sense-related (which is easily the most common cause of any software-related issue on this phone)

I have NOT tried that but I will. The problem is that I often can't get past bootloader logo...
I modified my post above so please read it (I mentioned Android crashing)
thanks for all your suggestions
I just tried different SIM card. Phone booted fine to WinMo, and froze as soon as I clicked on Messaging tab in sense.
I will try to disable Sense for now.
I disabled Sense, rebooted WinMo launched Android repeated operation of trying to get to speedtest. Site launched, but phone rebooted after a while.
I am getting to conclusion that some software including flash causes my phone to reboot and then I can't get it to boot again..
Right now my phone is stuck again on bootloader. I already tried rebooting twice.
What I noticed is that every time my phone freezes it gets a little warmer in the lower left corner
What hardware is located in that area?
Phone freezes no matter what I try. Stumped
I have a question that seems not to be able to get answered where ever I post it. so please forgive me for posting here if this is not the correct place. I have been trying android from the beginning and I've tried everyones builds. from winmo to droid and different radios to find the right combination. The problem i keep running into is that my phone freezes up no matter what i do. I tried the letama .2 & .3. This problem even occurs in winmo even with the sd out. I may get a full day out of it with no problems then the problem returns. Right know i'm running MDJ Froyo revolution v.1.3 and winmo ozrom 5.10 wwe and radio 2.10.50.26. Also, wipe the sd clean every time i switch builds or upgrade. Haven't figured out how to do logs yet. still searching and reading to try and teach myself how to be more useful around the forums. Thanks and I appreciate all the hard work the DEVS put in. That's why i follow the rules except this time.

Obey the rules!
Naa, just kidding. But if your phone's freezing even in WinMo there's something really messed up. Did you try to make a task 29 and flash your ROM again? That might be helpful.. If not, turn your phone back to original standards (ROM, HSPL, Radio must be as given by the factory) and go to your retailor to use your guarantee if you still have.

I like you sense of humor. thank you for taking the time and commenting. there has been 30+ people that have viewed this and haven't even responded. But, some can ask like where is the download link and we all now where its at. always at the beginning of the thread, but they get all kind of replies. It just makes no sense to me when someone has a legit question they can't get much help. don't really understand that. Thought we were here to help each other.I don't believe that its an issue hardware issue. i believe its more software than anything. It comes and goes. My phone was going thru a period where it would reboot all by itself with no apparent reason. Then all of a sudden it stopped it and hasn't done that for 4 to 6 weeks.
really 97 views and no insight.
you tried the stock factory rom?? It might be hardware. You will be surprised a tiny drop of water inside your phone will slowly mess up your phone through a long period of time.
Are you on tmobile? I will try to look for a stock rom for you.
BTW, what do you mean by freezing? it hiccups or you have to do a battery pull.

if your suffering from the freezes in winmo and android then you I think that you need to forget about android for the time being and concentrate on getting a stable WM set up........
If you havent already done so then try a hard reset and see if that helps.......
try booting and running your phone with and without your sd card........
with and without your sim card........
if it still happens after the hard reset then you will need to reflash your WM rom, if you plan on using the phone mostly for android then I would opt for a basic rom like the energy reference series or one of duttys roms.....
there are many reasons why your phone might freeze and you need to spend time trying all situations to figure out what makes it freeze..........
if it still happens after the reset/reflash then we can only assume that it is a serious problem which may well require a warranty replacement.....

I have tried all that you have suggested. The curious thing to me is that it seems to come and go. It first started with the energy rom and it's also happened with dutty's as well. if you guys know how to pull logs that devs need is possible you could give me a run down on how and then maybe i can find out if it is hardware. My phone has never been near water. i'm very careful about that. I'm using ozrom now. This is the 3rd HD2 i've had. the last one lost all touch response. I just have a feeling its software, but i just have a gut feeling on that. Thanks everyone though for your input i greatly appreciate it and keep it coming.

I have to pull the battery. Then i may have to leave it out for a minute or two maybe longer then replace battery before it will load windows. it will just show the splash screen.
was this happening even when you were running the stock rom?
Have you tried to reformat your SD Card? I have two, and when I used my original card received with my HD2, TMOUSA, it would freeze. Since I reformatted and use new and old card, no problems for over a month.

yes. I have two the 16 that came with it and an 8. it happens with both. I reformat every time i switch builds.
I see that your using radio 2.10 and that caused my HD2 to freeze a lot. change your radio to 2.12 or 2.14
I use the same Android build as you but with the elegancia gtx wm rom with radio 2.14 and after upgrading the radio the freezing (SOD) stopped.
I started using the radio 2.15.50 and have had no problems whatsoever. Also unchecking auto rotate and auto britghtness helps. Sometimes redownloading and installing your Android helps if you got a bad download the first time.
Update
now runnning enery extreme from 11/5 and mdj desire hd with his newest kernel smartass and the only time it freezes in during a call. usually anywhere from 5 - 15 minutes into the call. Anyone have any insight two a possible solution?
This is what I would do:
1. Task 29
2. Flash a slim WM ROM such as the one mentioned in my signature.
3. Flash a NEW RADIO...at least 2.12 or even higher.
3a. Install NOTHING. NOTHING AT ALL. Just answer and make calls. Period.
4. Test that build for two days. If I have freezups, then my phone is bad and I would flash the stock rom and radio and return it. If it does not freezup goto 5.
5. Completely reformat my SD card to Fat32 32kb (or 64kb if you think it affects stuttering in music).
6. Since you and I are both in the US, I recommend getting an Android that has a built in TMO MMS fix such as the new MDJ build (with link to MMS fix) or the fine MooMoo build or even Bluetopia.
7. Test the basic features in Android for two days minimum and see if I get freezeups (after disabling auto-rotate and wi-fi on the Android build as well as completely shutting off all radios in WM).
8. Be glad I got this far, and slowly reinstall my apps, testing each thoroughly for freezing.

Thanks for taking the time to post this i appreciate it. I have tried it all. It appears to be getting better. I have been using MDJ's kernels since he posted them with his desire hd build. I have always felt that it was software related and not hardware. It appears to me to be caused maybe by the data drops from ppp. Not sure though till i teach myself how to do that. thanks again though.
Turned out to be a hardware issue. Got my new replacement and it works flawless. Can't believe the fun I was missing. At least it was a great learning experience.
Sent from my HTC HD2 Desire using XDA App
I was wondering if someone could please help me with this or explain it
I'm a bit of a flash addict, I flash at least 2 ROMs a week sometimes a lot more, purely because I love one day having a completely different phone to the one I had the day before. I've been on XDA since before Christmas and have been flashing that long, mostly in the back.
But with some ROMs I've needed to input full ip settings before it'll connect to my home router and at school, both of which are different so I have to stand there for a while typing it all in, but with others it just connects
I've tried different kernels (And scheduler) but that doesn't seem to effect it, as I always use lees latest kernel, but have tried others to fix this problem and I've tried kernels that I've had working on ROMs, so from this I deduced there's something in the ROM.
Normally (and usually) I'd just switch ROMs, but I would really like to use synergy so any ideas or help?
Thanks, Joe
