Samsung Focus visible in Windows 7 Explorer - Focus General

The Focus CAN be made visible in Windows 7 explorer. Here is some proof:
(See attached screen captures)
(The video being copied was very large and was being automatically converted.)

How can it be seen?

You will have to Jailbreak the phone and install some 3rd party app to enable the USB Mass storage. But even if Windows can see your phone as mass storage, most apps don't. It's kind of worthless any way.
WP7 is based on WinCE kernel and all the features like USB mass storage and multi-tasking are already there.

kinda old news...

Here is HOW
I've attached a snapshot of my WIN7 x32 registry with the appropiate information. Zoom the picture to see the info. Obviously you have to know how to edit the registry. Hope this helps.
The only "3rd party software" software required is the Zune USB driver, of course. Other MS operating systems will differ accordingly.

Open the registry editor on your PC by typing regedit in your Start menu
go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\USB; search forZuneDriver
now you will modify three entries (note, if you have multiple WP7 phones, you have to do it for each one)
Change ShowInShell from 0 to 1
Change PortableDeviceNameSpaceExcludeFromShell from 1 to 0
Change EnableLegacySupport from 0 to 1
device, and folders for music, video and images should now show up in explorer, and to enable modifying the files the Zune desktop software simply needs to be closed.
Other files can also be placed there, but will not be accessible on the device, allowing the use at least of the smartphone as a USB drive.

What if SD is never accessible from WM side?

If this turned out to be the case... what would be the most optimised size of WM?
Would it be possible to remove literally everything and allow them to be added back in one by one...? That way users could optimise their device to their liking...
I'd just like to be able to install a really good browser like Opera 9.5 and not run out of space... surely not much would have to be removed to allow that to be done without constantly running out of space?
deleting files in windows directory
when i run memaid on the shift, i see close to 100 mb in the windows directory. i have just checked on my htc tytn (hermes) with wm6 and a lot of additional apps storred in the main memory, finally the windows directory is 67 mb,
i think a lot of the file in the shift are useless, and we could have a gain of 40 mb..
i.e the snapvue plug in may take a lot of space with all the .gif for the weather tool.
anyone have a list of the files needed to run windows? then we could delete the other, (if they are not in read only) or cook a lite windows directory
yep, that's exactly what i had in mind. i wonder how much space could be gained...

Trying to hide por....I mean Important Documents? I found a good way is to Hide them on your PC. When you are ready to access them on your phone browse to the folder the hidden files are located and by default you should not see them. To see them click "Menu" in the bottom right of your screen. Then select "Show All Files". You should now be able to see the hidden files.
How about encrypting a folder? Try this, http://thewingster.com/filebarricader.aspx.

thanks for recommendation, but i dont think it's for wm 6.5....looks like a software many years ago.....
Just tried it out on my ATT TP2 with EnergyRom 6.5, works fine.
Hate to break it to you but 6.5 IS software from years ago, slightly touched up
i use FreeOTFE4pda its similar to truecrypt on your computer. The best part about this app is the encrypted volume you create can be mounted as a second sd card on your pda or if you copy the encrypted volume to your pc you can use the pc version to mount it as well. It's open source and supports all the common encryption algorithms.
descryption from their site.
FreeOTFE is a free, open source, "on-the-fly" transparent disk encryption program for PCs and PDAs
Using this software, you can create one or more "virtual disks" on your PC/PDA. These disks operate exactly like a normal disk, with the exception that anything written to one of them is transparently, and securely, encrypted before being stored on your computer's hard drive.
Features include:
* Highly portable - Not only does FreeOTFE offer "portable mode", eliminating the need for it to be installed before use, it also offers FreeOTFE Explorer - a system which allows FreeOTFE volumes to be accessed not only without installing any software, but also on PCs where no administrator rights are available. This makes it ideal for use (for example) with USB flash drives, and when visiting Internet Cafés (AKA Cybercafés), where PCs are available for use, but only as a "standard" user.
* Source code freely available
* Easy to use; full wizard included for creating new volumes
* Both PC and PDA versions are available; data encrypted on your PC can be read/written on your PDA, and vice versa. Supports all versions of MS Windows from Windows 2000 onwards (including Windows 7), and Windows Mobile 2003 and later (including Windows Mobile v6.5)
* No need to install it; making it ideal for use on USB memory drives, etc
* Support for encrypted Linux volumes (Cryptoloop "losetup", dm-crypt and LUKS)
* Available in English, Spanish, German, Italian, French, Czech, Japanese, Croatian and Greek - with support for other language translations
* Optional support for smartcards and security tokens
* It's powerful: Supporting numerous hash (including SHA-512, RIPEMD-320, Tiger) and encryption algorithms (including AES, Twofish and Serpent) in several modes (CBC, LRW and XTS) - providing a much greater level of flexibility than a number of other (including commercial!) OTFE systems
* Encrypted volumes may either be file, partition, or even disk based
thanks for the help to all of you guys thanks ....

Browse "Windows folder" slow, from WM7 Synch Center

Hi,
Hd2 is fantastic fast... But browsing "Windows folder" from WM7 Synchronization Center via USB is so slow!
Does somebody know a way to speed up the this "windows folder" browsing.
I did not find a way to fix this in xda or Google. May be i missed it.
Using explorer or Resco explorer from Hd2 is ok, no slowdown.
Thanks in advance.
I can't even browse the Windows folder from Win7, it freezes up the explorer window, my computer and the phone until I unplug the USB cable. Very strange.
For me in W7 I can't even get to the Windows folder, it's hidden even with hidden files and system folders set as shown.
To answer, it just takes very long to enumerate the 10'000+ files in the windows folder with the rather slow activesync protocol.
@kilrah - in folder options there are two tick boxes that control visibility.you need to both tick show hidden files and folders, and also a few entries further down untick hide protected operating system files.
plus don't forget to apply settings to all folders.
@OP its always been slow over active sync.personally if I'm dealing with files in windows I copy them to sd with resco on the phone and only then browser the sd from the pc.

Thanks for your suggestions, but does somebody knows a way to realy speed up browse of "Windows folder" from WM7 explorer?
I dont think there is a way to "speed" it up through sync center. Even browsing the directory from your phone itself takes moment to populate all of the files in there.
First time I loaded that dir from my old old phone I thought it was frozen too but after a few minutes everything came up lol.

Programmatically transfer file from Windows to Android phone

Hello Community,
By now, everyone knows Android has dropped support for USB Mass Storage access to its folder. Which means a Windows computer can no longer programmatically copy a file from Windows to a USB-connected Android device.
I have a Windows application that needs to be able to drop a text file from time to time onto an Android phone. I also have an Android app that monitors a certain folder on the device and processes those text files as they come in. In the past, all I had to do on the Windows side was to map a drive pointing to the Android device and my Windows app would then be able to copy the files to that drive. But that doesn't work anymore with more recent versions of Android.
The phone and the computer may be located in an environment where no wifi is available or where both devices are not on the same wifi network. The computer may also not have bluetooth capabilities. In other words, the only thing I can count on with certainty is the USB connexion between the phone and the computer.
I could use a batch file calling ADB, but since different phones may have different ADB drivers, it means I can't provide a generic way for my Windows App to transfer a file to any Android phone. And I have no control over which phone gets connected to which computer. In addition, I can't use a GUI based application to transfer the files: my Windows application needs to run unattended, without having to wait for user action. The same is true of the Android application.
I know there are a number of WebDav/FTP/Bluetooth applications I can install on the Android device so that it can expose a folder to outside computers, but they all rely on over the air connectivity. I tried to find information on writing my own Android Server application that would "publish" a folder to the PC to which the phone is connected via USB, but I can't find anything of use in the Android SDK documentation; the USB stuff all pertains to IoT, not to the actual link that gets established between a PC and a phone. I think what I need to do is to write an app that turns the device into some kind of Samba server that's accessible through the USB connecion, but I have no idea where to start looking for documentation on doing it.
Does anyone have any pointers on how to accomplish this?
PS: please don't start asking questions like "Why do you need to drop a file onto the phone", or "Why don't you just make sure Wifi or bluetooth is always available?". I already explained those restrictions and they are there for very good reasons. So thanks for staying on topic.
Hi,
I am also under the same question of "how to transfer a file from PC to Android Device". The only difference is, I have a GUI which prepare data to be transferred. The user can say "proceed" to copy.
Have found any solution for the above question raised ??

How can I allow Windows programs to access the phone?

I don't just mean Windows Explorer. I mean other programs.
I have 6.0.1 MagMa ROM. Set to MTP and turned on USB debugging. Windows Explorer can read the device contents, but since the phone appears as an actual phone in Explorer and not just a separate drive, I can't get other programs to recognize the phone's existence. Even Android-specific Windows programs don't recognize it. A couple programs seem to know there's a phone connected but tell me to turn on USB debugging even though it's on already.
How can I make the phone appear as just a separate drive or change settings in Android/Windows to make the phone searchable in Windows programs?
