[Q] MIUI Folder Management - Desire HD General

Hi all,
i have just installed miui rom and really like the ui and particularly the speed of the rom.
the one issue i have is the lack of app drawer and the apparently random nature of application placement on the home screens. having browsed the threads this appears to be a 'feature' of miui...
to manage these apps it is recommended to use folders. but speed is an issue to me. creating a folder is easy enough, but i find it extremely slow to long press on an icon and drag to the necessary folder for all my apps. i would have liked to see a quick way of management, similar to folderorganizer app where you can quickly place multiple apps in folders.
does anybody have tips that allow better / quicker management of apps and folders in miui?

I'm using LauncherPro on top of MIUI. It's awesome and very fast! Especially after LP was optimized for Gingerbread.

ive been using miui for a few weeks now and i think its great, i havent installed any launchers on top as i think it kinda messes with the whole idea of the rom in the 1st place.
but one thing ive found out is when u click and hold an icon so u can move it, u can use another finger/hand to scroll thru the pages. that way i managed to quickly sort eerything into folders and where on which page i wanted it
hope that helps
otherwise use launcher pro or adw launcher, from past exprience i prefer ADW Launcher Ex best $3 spent on the market for me

hi ruskival - thanks for the tip.
i just wish there was a quicker way to organise, and to use labels rather than folders (like folder organiser, which, despite its name uses labels rather than folders...).
oh, and scrollable widgets please!!
i love widgets as a quick view to my calendar, mail, messages, rss feeds, facebook, twitter etc.

So many home screens?!

SO, I'm a simple iPhone user, aka these 5 home screens and moving backgrounds confuse and fluster the hell out of me. While I try and downloads hoards of apps to put the the phone I still can't quite figure out what the hell to do with 5 home screens, in reality I have only filled one page and even still its only really my phone and weather widget.
Are there any apps / widgets / clocks / keyboards ya'll would say are "required" for the nexus? I really don't know where to look some one should make a suggested app thread.
look forward to hearing your responses.

it all depends on you decorate it to your liking
for me on my main screen i have my
Mainscreen
-flipclock from beautiful widgets
-Most used apps: gallery, aim, maps, camera, gmail, browser and market
Second Screen Left
-Search bar on top
-picture frame of me and my girlfriend in the middle
-A folder for games and a folder for tools on each side of the frame
-and the power control on the button
and then on other screens i have my friendstream(facebook widget), favorite contacts, end all task widget, flashlight widget, music player widget, bookmarks widget, news widget
oh and im using the the desire rom btw but there are equivilant widgets on the market
You don't to have to have live wallpapers, and on the iphone don't you get how many screens you need to compensate for the amount of applications you have installed? So unless you had a minimal amount of applications, wouldn't you have more (or equivalent) than five screens? So how come now it is confusing you?
Ok, back to the matter at hand. Usually I just decorate my home screens with applications that i need, apps that are not used regularly stay in the app wheel thingy (its not really drawer anymore). Really your homescreens will be determined by your needs, and likes. Decorate with the most essential applications that you need, and expand on that by adding widgets and etc. I'm sure others could recommend apps for you, I've been an Android user since the G1 (which isn't long really), but apps just come to mind without hesitation.
On my main screen I have a nice clock and my most used programs. The screen to the right has toggles for various settings. To the right of that is speed dials. To the left of the main screen is weather and news plus a few more program shortcuts and to the left of that is my music player widget.
I only use 3 screens, centre is big clock and most used apps, to the right is a bunch of regularly used apps. to the left is some widgets and speed dials.
I keep the other 2 blank for some reason.

I will buy the first homescreen replacement launcher that has this implemented

Android i good. The scrolling homescreen with widgets is good. Only one thing is terrible: The app launcher. No categories/catalogs i launcher?!
So you have to scroll along xx times until you finally spot the application you're looking for.
Here are suggestions on different solutions:
When you open the app launcher you see custom folders ex. "Office, Games, Multimedia, Utils, Settings". When you install a app, you get a question in what folder to put the app link". Besides the folders in the launcher you can have a option to also see latest run apps.
This solution would show the usual vertical scroll down app list. But with a important twist. A line, or the backgroundcolor is different, when you are scrolling on a different category, + a OSD text stays front telling on what category you are, ex "Work, Entertainment, Hobbies, Health, Internet".
One launcher actually has almost made it, don't know if it's Launcher Pro or ADW launcher. You can have apps in different groups and click between them. Only thing missing is name of the categories so you see where you're at. And option to disable the group "All"
I'm pretty certain that Slick UI will have this when it launches.
MIUI already does this

To be fair, MIUI doesn't even have an app drawer, it just puts all of your apps on the launcher and you're forced to put every app into a folder.
Hell, vanilla Android has folders, which is exactly what MIUI is using.

yeah to start with i thought Miui was amazing, but now I realise other than looking completely different its pretty sh!t
If you want categories in your home-replacement. I suggest you head over to my website http://futurinnovations.blogspot.com/ to see what I am working on. If you are a dev yourself, you can help all that you can. It's still a work in progress and I haven't come up with any fancy renderings of it, yet. I do, however, have some sketches of what it is supposed to look like and how it functions. Tell what you think of it. It will be the second post from the top (under my live wallpaper screen shots).
DxTop has an amazing implementation of categorized app drawer - with corresponding live folders.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
go launcher has app drawer sorted I believe
Swyped on my OG Droid using Tapatalk
Go launcher has app sorting, not sure about categories though.
I think LG Optimus One has that kind of launcher

And u can send the money to me. j/k
I wish this feature would be implemented into LauncherPro. I love all the other features of LauncherPro, so it would be nice to be able to keep those and still have this category feature.
auto app organizer .apk
create shortcut in homescreen or dock and voila you got what you want in all the launchers ...
LG Home does what you're asking its in the market but only really works for the galaxy s line up.
Sent from my phone...which is faster than my laptop.

Creating widget folders

On a previous ROM i was able to create folders with widgets, just in the same way as i would do with apps - i.e. tap and drag the widget onto one another...
Since updating my rom however this no longer works. .. with apps i have no problems and but no joy with widgets. .. I'm also pretty sure it is not a launcher issue as i use nova as default but have the same problem with touchwiz...
So question us whether or not this is normal, and more importantly is there anyway of activating this feature by, say, wanam or the like?
Thanks in advance for any opinion on this subject...

Which launcher do you use on MM K3 note?

OK, I like the default VibeUI launcher which comes on MM, however I have 100+ apps installed, so it becomes confusing to find an app. I make folders for better organization but it is lot of work, and it gets lost everytime I do update
I tried catapult, it automatically paginates alphabetically and is light too, however It doesn't quick search feature like Vibe (by swiping up) which I really use,
I also tried nano launcher which is also very light, however It doesn't have resizable widgets on front page otherwise it would have been perfect
And BTW does VibeUI support lock screen widgets, I can't seem to find an option to enable it ?
Any others I should try ?
Google now.. Use it on most of my phones..
After trying more than 10 different launchers, I have zeroed in on Solo Launcher with Search Bar Ex widget. It works as great combo.
I recommend a very good app organizer called Smart Shortcuts. It works with ANY launcher and keeps your apps organized in folders. I also recommend Swapps....it gives you an app window on the side of your screen, so that you can access your apps at any time. In fact, you can put folders from Smart Shortcuts on your Swapps menu. As for launchers, I use Hola launcher as it is small, light and fast. I have not upgraded to MM yet, but it all works well under lollipop.

Like the phone so far but ..... need help with a hidden menu

Hi,
In every other android based phone I've owned I've always had an option to hide apps I don't use allot so you just drag an app up to the top and there are usually two options: Uninstall and Remove which places it in a vault for safe keeping. This doesn't seep to be present on this phone and I HATE cluttered desktops so I'm a bit bummed about this so I thought I'd reach out and see if I'm not figuring this out.
I am now aware of the right swipe that brings me to some other settings but there is no app vault there for hiding apps I don't use.
Also is there a way to uninstall allot of the bloat ware this phone came with? I use Google apps for most of my needs and Opera as my main browser so having these other apps on board isn't much to my liking and again without a vault of some kind to take them off of hte desktop...... no fun!
I do know about the combining apps into "folders" and renaming them but I'd just like the apps GONE that I don't and never will use.
Thanks for any help you can provide.
You could just download another launcher with the option to vault apps and about the bloatware you can follow this tutorial right here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-7/how-to/remove-redmi-note-7-bloatware-root-t3925049
Can you recommend a launcher that's stable and good? I've tried a few on my tablets but ended up going back to the default as they were mostly unstable... I'm sure it's going to be different on a phone but it was a bit disheartening to try about 4 launchers on my Lenovo tablet and just didn't like them at all.
Thanks for the quick reply!
Nova Launcher is pretty good
Give a try to poco launcher.
Very stable.
I use Evie Launcher, lightweight amd simple to use

You can try CPL (Customized Pixel Launcher) from playstore. I guess CPL is the best in term of stability, optimizations and LOTs of customization, you wont find in any launcher IMO
No need for Nova launcher or Poco ,new system launcher alfa version ,have new options , swipe up to app drawer..
Hmmm, but if there is an App Drawer in a newer version of the launcher that ships with this phone I wasn't aware of that but the main thing for me, besides the drawer or vault or what ever it's called (too many strange labels to understand what I'm trying to say ) I really need that bit when I'm dragging up to allow me to remove the app from the desktop. In the default there is that weird option that seems to replace the "remove" option.... called "Dual apps" which I have NO IDEA what that's all about and really don't care.
I'm using Poco and it's nice enough. I love the dark theme option but one thing I am missing is when one gets new phone calls or texts the icons in the lower bar area usually changes to indicate how many there are waiting. With the Poco set up there doesn't seem to be any indicators like that... or perhaps it's because I changed the icon set out?? Not sure what's caused that to stop working.... Weird.
Thanks for all the suggestions good people!
