RenderFX in stock FroYo - G2 and Desire Z General

In CM7, one of my favorite things about it was being able to change the interface using RenderFX. Is there any way to get RenderFX on the stock FroYo, or anything similar that can change the interface like it can? I searched, but didn't really find much.

[Q] AOSP Dialer/Contacts within Sense UI Builds

I have grown very fond of the Sense UI, as a lot of people here have. But, one thing that I HATE with a passion is the contacts and dialer that Sense uses. I love the dialer that is used in the non-Sense builds, which if memory serves is just the AOSP dialer (or perhaps its the one by wysie).
Anyways, my question is this: Is there any way for me to get the AOSP/Wysie contacts and dialer onto a Sense build? I have tried the basic things of pushing the APKs over via adb, or trying to install them via adb, etc. It all fails.
I know this has been posted once before, but thought that perhaps since the time it was last posted that maybe someone has come up with an idea or two.
Any suggestions, or am I SOL?

make a completely stock froyo launcher, htc desire. no root required!

From a comment i made on the thread mentioned below, but seemed appropriate to start a new one considering lots of people have been looking to do this.
for any of those using launcher pro, and hate the default icons, ive attached the stock froyo ones for browser and phone. if you are an htc sense user and want a stock froyo experience without root/ custom roms then downloading launcher pro and using these icons is the easiest way to do it. if u want the stock android phone/contacts app, download dailer one and link it to the froyo phone icon (by long pressing) in launcher pro. bearing in mind the launcher2 phone icon is hardlinked to the stock android phone app, which is impossible to install on htc phones. this is the closest you can get, and it does a pretty good job!
i have also tweaked the nexus icon from another thread to fit.
it was coming up very small as the app drawer icon in launcher pro. screenshot and files for all icons attached.
ive also attached the froyo stock app drawer icon, the launcher pro one is close but a bit big and doesnt quite match the style
i know no-one has directly asked for all this info but ive been reading the forums and a lot of people want to do this so thought i had to share the knowledge somewhere! i can take credit for very little, all i have done is edit an icon and congregated stuff ive found into one place. from my own experience wanting to do this i found it very frustrating that those with sense but wanting stock had to resort to 'almost but not quite' solutions. ive also found that a lot of supposedly stable roms are far from it. this ensures a bug/ fc free experience. you get complete stock functionality but with the visual appeal and the added dock buttons from froyo.
please link this info on to any forum you might think could need it, also, if some kind soul could upload mirrors to the images for those who arent members (this thread is aimed primarily at them) and embedded photos of the screen grabs would also be appreciated, i dont have the permissions. thanks a lot, hope this stuff is useful!

HTC - Explorer/Camera/Camcorder/Mail App - is it possible to export these?

Hi guys,
Sorry if this seems like a silly question, but the mail app, camera apps, and customised explorer are the ONLY parts of the official Sense builds I'd actually miss.
The answer may be around somewhere, but I haven't seen it yet; is it possible to get these apps by themselves for use on a NON-SENSE ROM. So for example if I was to go to Oxygen, I'd get all the benefits of an AOSP ROM and the additional speed, but retain the customised camera, internet and mail app.
Honestly everything else I use can be downloaded from the market, its just these apps I miss when I move away from HTC/Leedroid, infact Im quite happy with Zeam as a launcher.
this has been asked and answered a million times already...
you cant run sense apps on an aosp rom - they require the sense framework to be running, which doesnt exist on a rom that doesnt include sense.
you can run a launcher such as zeam on a sense rom though, and the htc apps should work (dont think the widgets will)

[Q] How to get the most performance?

I am eagerly awaiting my a500, which is being shipped right now.
In the mean time, I'd like to know what kind of optimizations you would suggest to get the best performance and utility from the tablet, so that when I do get it i'm all ready to go.
I have an android phone, and I know a big thing for it, was replacing the launcher with ADW, Launcher Pro, or Zeam. How is the default launcher on the a500? Is there a better alternative?
Secondly, do the available roms provide noticeably better performance? I'll probably be rooting for CIFS support if DLNA doesn't work out anyways, so it'd be nice to know if the roms are worth it.
Are there any settings I should change from default that would make the performance better? Or anything else you suggest?
Thanks for all your help
Some of the roms do offer performance improvements.. Thou usually break something.. unless they are the near stock rooted themed ones..
same with overclocking each kernel offers different features you will have to find what suits your needs..
the biggest issue with custom roms kernels is trade off there is always something you will be trading.. WITH Many of them its battery life and app compatibility.Th biggest two most important things for me . well 3 really.. all require you to root your tablet
1 ad-hoc network support (just a single file to replace to allow this)
2 GPS.. There is a gps fix that allows much better sat locks.
3 Backup... Titanium backup needs root not to mention full backup thru CWM RECOVERY.. aCER Recovery installer from market can do this for you .
So other than rooting the device, you don't do anything else for performance gains?
you can put a custom kernel, the one i use allows overclocking up to 1.64GHz

That looks pretty awesome to me, bwassef.
I'd definitely use it just for the CIFS support, but its good to know OC is supported if I feel the need.
Are there any other things I could do, or that are necessary besides kernels & roms?

DON'T CHANGE A THING , not for several weeks. erica_renee gave that advice before and it's the best you can follow. You need to see how it's suppose to work and get a baseline so you know how it should work. Get all your applications running and working first then see what you'd like to change that it doesn't allow you to do. Then look at other ROM's.

The not changing a thing of course goes without saying. even thou yes i guess it does need to be spoken always.. If its not broken dont fix . Root and modify your device only if it does not suit your needs stock..
im Blonde i cant remember to type everything.. Giggles.
Of course, if I can get along just fine on 100% stock, I'll do that. However chances are I will need to route for CIFS support if the DLNA app doesn't work well enough.
I was actually hoping for more suggestions that don't require rooting. Like alternative launchers, or settings on the device.

I can tell you that in regards to a home launcher, ADW Launcher is great, and has awesome honeycomb integration. some (including me) notice a lag in the stock launcher and ADW takes care of that
NonRoot Performace Tweaks / Apps:
- Disable animations. (Settings/Screen/Animation).
- Set wifi to turn off when screen is off. (Settings/Wireless & Networks/Wifi Settings/Advanced)
- Turn off all unnecessary radios. (Bluetooth, GPS, Wifi)
- Set screen brightness to as low as you can or use auto broghtness.
- Use Opera Mobile instead of the stock browser. You may find one you like better, but this is the fastest one that I've found. Also, make sure to turn off Opera Turbo.
- Use File Manager HD as you as your file manager.
- MX Video player for video playback.
- Thumb Keyboard to replace the stock one.
- Stock launcher isn't bad, but I like to customize everything so I use ADW EX.
If I think of anymore I'll post em .
Thanks guys, these were the kind of tips I was hoping for.
Especially that there is value using ADW as an alternative launcher, and that there may be slight lag in using the stock launcher.
Has anyone tried the tablet loaded with widgets versus bare? Is it possible to run it with a lot of widgets without it slowing down a lot? I was also thinking of using some more minimal looking text widgets to displayed weather etc. instead of the fancy graphical ones. I'm assuming these will be lighter on resources?

I've got about 10 widgets plus a LWP and im still able to play games etc. with out any lag. But I'm also rooted with many different mods and tweaks I've done, so I'm not sure how it would be on a stock OS.

Samsung Stock apps. Phone and messaging apk

Hi friends.
I've been mooving around so many roms and now I finally know, that stock and stock like roms (IN MY CASE) will always end up messed up and laggy and buggy and unstable and and and...
So now I stick with MIUI, which in fact satisfies me. Except the notion, that I really like the messaging, and moreover contact book that go with the stock.
They have some really nice UI features that I love.
So the bottom line: Is there a way, I could extract those apps from Stock and install into MIUI?
If so, then how?
Installing is easy. Harder is extracting.
Any hints?
You can extract it from any CWM ROM based on Stock, but I do not think it will work -> missing Samsung frameworks, libs, etc.
Oh, that easy. Will give a try.
Yeah,I know that it will probably fail
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
I'd be very interested to know if you had any success with this. I've just flashed CM9RC2 and loving it, but I'm finding the dialler, contacts and calender apps to be a real let-down compared to the stock Samsung ones (so much so I might have to go back to stock ROM)
No-one has ported them - they 100% work.
I too miss these features (and the music player) enough that I went back to stock roms.

In the Theme & App session there is a MMS.apk modify that look very similar to Samsung default version.
