Not sure if this somehow can help in any form of development for the Bravo but I'll post it up. Just read on Android Central that Motorola is looking for 1,000 users to test Android 2.2 for Bravo owners. It does require you to register on their forums first and then fill out a registration form. My younger brother has a Bravo so I'm going to register with his device and maybe it will somehow help some developers on here. Here is the link to the info https://supportforums.motorola.com/thread/47978?tstart=0
thanks for the heads up. I missed the last one.
Thanks for the notification. I'm already registered for the MFN tho, doesn't look like there's more I can do.... Hopefully I'm not missing something.
Wow this is the best news. Lets hope att doesn't delay this one like the last one. I'm all signed up so just gonna keep an eye on my email from them. Thanks for the heads up!
Thanks for posting. Spread the word on this, let's make sure they get all 1000 slots filled asap! More testers = better final product.

unroot
Is there a way to unroot for this phone? I'm just waiting on my notification, I'm afraid root will not allow the OTA update.
I got in! Received the email saying in a few days I'll get a download link where I can get the update. I was also wondering about unrooting.
Wouldnt the update unroot your phone for you? If we wanted we would root it again after the update.
Sent from my MB520 using XDA App
I have a Droid Incredible and from being in those forums I believe, and I can be wrong so don't quote me, we will still be able to update. What usually blocks the update is have Clockwork Recovery. Hopefully we can root after the update. Knowing Motorola they are probably going to patch it up. Then don't want people rooting their phones. I'm just hoping someone here can possible use this info and hopefully can port CWM for us.

2.2.1 downloaded
I got the message from motorola this morning to download 2.2.1. 15 minutes later up and running. Did a quadrant check and I'm at 1190. Much faster and a lot smoother. The best thing, I was able to move 95% of my apps to the SD card. Freed a bunch of space.

After it fails, touch the lower right corner of your screen, should show some text that might help you figure out what's going wrong.

It tells me but it shows error for /cache/Blur_Version...etc so its from their update. I see you on the MOTO forums heydabop
@heydabop the error you stating you are getting even after unrooting might be if you modified the phone to allow non-market apps. Did you leave that on? I'm trying to see if I can reverse that by going through the steps and changing the value again. Maybe that would work. I get a different error though
I get the same error message. I think it is because I have custom boot animation installed. I didn't save the original boot animation zip file like I should have. I have factory data reset and went and checked the field for non market apps and changed them back. "E: error in /cache/blur_version3.5.350.MB520.ATT.en.us.zip (status 7)". So if anyone has the original boot animation zip file they can give me I would appreciate it. You can pm me or email me. thanks

There is probably an error above the the zip error, that points to a specific file. Don't mind the zip error, it's caused by the verification error, and doesn't actually indicate a problem with the zip.

Here are the correct downloads. This update only works on the Original My Touch 3G. Not the My Touch 3G 3.5 or Fender Version.
I took these instructions from Smapdi's Post
Renamed 894fb8631db9.hboot-1.33.0013.opal.zip to update.zip and placed it into the root of my SD card. Rebooted into recovery and flashed it (Turn on with Home then Power Key to boot into recovery). The process restarted the phone a few times (DO NOT TOUCH THE THING ONCE YOU START THE FLASH!!!!!) and eventually booted into 1.6.
I rebooted into fastboot and saw HBOOT was now 1.33.0013 :-D
I then took e059adc603a3.signed-opal-ota-60505.e059adc6.zip and renamed it to update.zip and put it into the root of the SD card deleting the previous file. Repeated the same steps as before and the phone did the whole restart itself a few times thing and eventually booted to 2.2!!!
Great work guys!
Thanks for everyones help I hope you enjoy Froyo 2.2.

i thought file 1 should be flashed first aswell but to me it looked like the 2.2.1 update since theres a "FRG84-from-DMD64" line in the code.
anyone else care to maybe back that assumption up or throw in your own 2 cents, wouldnt mind a few opinions before i flash these files.
Both downloaded, both have been put onto the root of my sdcard. Just waiting on a guiding light before i boot into stock recovery and flash
I also have the files ready but I dont have the guts to flash. I barely use the MT3G lately but I dont want to risk a brick.

Good news is the phone doesn't brick after trying to flash the first file. Bad news is it comes across an error. Apparently this is for a different phone. I got the error "E:Error in /sdcard/update.zip (Status 7)" with a bunch of other gibberish about buildprops before it ..
hope this helps someone ..
has anyone tested these file yet with success?

My Vibrant runs off MT3G roms ...
On a serious note .. I have an original MyTouch 3g, a Cliq, a G1, and a Vibrant ... usually just lurk around these forums and try not to intervene too much because people are quick to become trolls on this site .. then they complain when no one will help them .. gee i wonder why ... learn to be a little nicer, and maybe we can get some work accomplished as a whole ...
and just to clarify, I tested this on an original MyTouch 3g, 1.33.006 SPL, (stock) and unrooted DMD64 build.
This made me think that a "...*** from DMD646" update file would work. I'll be sure to keep my testing to myself so i can avoid trolls like you.
Don't get your panties in a bunch...
I already tried 1.5 -> 2.2.1 and both builds of 1.6 -> 2.2.1, doesn't work in any order
I've tried to update with both files no luck. They are definitly part of the update. I did notice from an earlier post with photos that one file was looking to the system cache file for the other file. So just a thought maybe both files need to be in place before the update can take place. Maybe this could be the problem. Any thoughts on this?

I saw the file name in another post with a view of a botched upgrade due to root. put the file name in the url for the other update and it was a valid url.

First off any time you want to test if a file is legit or not ( coming from htc/google ) you can just test the keystore via command prompt if the java development kit and runtime is in your system path. Don't remember the code off hand.
Second I would really suggest either using someone elses update script or at least replace/delete most of it. As well as install su and busybox. Because it won't run in a custom recovery.
Enjoy if you can!
I was excited that I received a message to update my firmware to 2.2 Froyo, but when I tried doing so I kept getting errors at the installation screen. It would download then go to the installation screen and give me an error.
I'm not sure if I bricked the phone without knowing or something, but I get the following error message when trying to upgrade:
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/command
I have no idea what that is/where it is. I checked my SD Card, but I didn't see anything like that there. I'm guessing I'm missing that folder/file, but I don't know where it would have went or if I can get it back.
I've tried to do the update both through my Bravo and downloading a ZIP file and trying to do it through the Recovery screen. I tried everything Motorola suggests on their website as well as searched Google a lot, but came up with nothing.
I should add that even when I click "applysdcard:update.zip" it gives me a few errors and aborts the installation.
I'm just wondering if there's any way to fix this so I can upgrade my firmware?
Thanks to anyone that can help.

Yes, I used Root Explorer. I'm guessing by MCFarmfresh's post that there issome sort of original build for the phone? I've looked everywhere for hours all night last night before resorting to asking somewhere, but I couldn't find anything and the "solutions" I've seen all did not work. I kept getting the same errors.
Thank you for replying. If you can help, it'll be very much appreciated.
I have a rooted Bravo and I deleted some of the bloatware, and I received the Froyo update and everytime I download and the system resets I get an error and the update stops. Selecting from memory card doesnt work for me, and I dont have a backup of the original settings to re-install (which I'm not sure how to do that either). If anyone has any suggestions I'm open.

if you renamed them name them back to apk

OK, so I tried everything that's suggested pretty much everywhere and I'm still unable to update. I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong or what, but I've tried resetting the phone via the phone/recovery screen, tried updating via the phone, and I also tried replacing the original build, but nothing worked so far.
I have no idea what else I can do, but any help would be appreciated.

If nothing else works, you can always sbf. It sounds scarier than it really is, actually it is pretty easy. Just make sure you follow the directions. I've done several sbf's and they have all turned out perfectly.

Thanks. I'm not sure what it was, but I switched to my Windows XP desktop (from my Windows 7 Home 64-bit laptop) and the SBF Flash worked perfectly, thanks bandroid, yourself, and others. If you will give me your email I can get it to you. For the life of me I cannot figure out hhow to attach files through pm using my phone lol. You can also use the .sbf method to upgrade but I'll definitely get the files to you if you send me your email.
SBF'in it...
Okay....so one of your gentleman above (I'm new to the forum ish) stated that he had deleted some apps off of his OS. I did the same thing with AT&T Hotspot Locator (unfortunately, AT&T was quick on merging this standalone app into MyAT&T so I couldn't get the atthotspotlocator.apk back). I fixed this using the SBF file.
I won't give you the step by step but I can tell you RSD Lite is a free program from Motorola. It's basically the program they use to flash boot SW onto an otherwise dead device.
Don't be intimidated by it because it really is rather easy to facilitate. Just do like I did and YouTube how to load an SBF into a motorola device. You can pause and replay as you go along to assure no errors. Takes like 15 minutes once you've got all the necessary files downloaded.
Well, that lasted long...
Everything was going fairly well until this morning when I clicked on the phone button (default launcher) and tried to go into the dialer, then it just closed every time I tried doing so.
To try to fix this I rebooted my phone, nothing; restored, nothing; factory reset, nothing; re-installed 2.2.1 FroYo via flashing the SBF with RSD Lite and 'apply:sdcard:update.zip' through Android's Recovery Screen, nothing.
When I tried doing the last 2, however, I received these errors (the first one I had with the first problem and the other 2 are new):
E:Can't mount CACHE: recovery/command
E:Can't mount CACHE: recovery/caller
E:Can't mount CACHE: recovery/log
Now, with the "caller" error, I did NOT touch anything having to do with the dialer and whatnot. That I know.
The last time I had problems with my laptop so I tried it on my desktop and it worked, but now I tried the desktop and it still isn't working properly. Some of the features that I had with the update are now gone such as the "third party apps" option and the sliding "lock screen" is now permanently present.
Any help with this is appreciated.
Hey folks,
maybe someone can help me.
In the morning on my A500 appeared an update available message. I tried to install it, but it failed in the middle. So I got a brick, which I solved with the chinese update. Afterwards I pushed my saved system.img.
BUT: Now the Build Number says Acer_A500_1.112. instead of Acer_A500_1.112.01_EMEA_CUS7
I checked the build.prop but there the correct build number is written.
Also another check of update gimme the message, that my system is up-to-date.
Is anyone able to provide help, like EMEA flexrom.img, boot.img, or some useful advises?
There is a EMEA signed update.zip floating around. Try to restore with that one and see what happens.
I got the same "Update" message (34MB?). I don't know if it was because mine was already rooted. D/L and updated, in the middle the dreadful Triangle with the exclamation mark pops up. Bricked! Did a reboot and try to reapply the update again..Bricked again.
Is this because I'd rooted the tablet?
gotta push flexrom
You gotta push your flexrom image onto the tablet too then "FACTORY RESET". The flexrom (mmcblk0p6) has the information of the update... that is where you are getting the difference from (if i am not mistaken)...
Try that and see if it helps ... I believe it should... jejeje

Typically I ignore posts that seem to just be complaining, but you seem real torn up about this so... go to settings, accounts, add your exchange account and be happy.
Another thing that can cause the update to hang would be any edits to your build.prop (ie. Netflix early fixes, etc). Changing back to the original resolved the triangular fail icon for me and completed the update with root still installed, gingerbreak did have to be I installed again but root is still attainable.

I was having all kinds of problems not getting the update to run and kept Triangle halt..
I resolved it by the following:
you dont need to do anything with Gingerbreak, its ok. The problem is for those that changed any system files. In my case, i wanted exchange, so i was using a different email.apk, well as learned from another thread here, if you look in Cache/recovery/logs, you will see a file where you can see where the update went wrong. Like i said, in my case, i saw the file size was not what was expected for email.apk. I removed the exchange account, used rootexp and renamed email.apk.old (the original) to email.apk and the obex file then the update worked correctly.
I was going crazy as i was messing with this instead of watching my heat vs the bulls 1st half.

look at your /Cache/recovery/logs for an error and post results
I had to try about 7-8 times looking in the recovery log after each time to see what .apk that i forgot that I had deleted, then put it back and try again. I finally was successful and haven't seen much difference other than no random wake ups. Maybe a little snappier.
I had mine hang in recovery every unsuccessful update which is NOT THE SAME AS BRICKING.
Hey all,
I looked through the posts and wasn't able to find the answer so I am leaving this. Basically I upgraded my X from a rooted froyo to GB using the 2 files provided by P3Droid to go from the SBF froyo to GB rooted. It works great and I am having no freezing issues however the phone keeps trying to update and download the GB over the air update. I don't know how to stop this from happening or if I did something wrong. I have deleted a few of the Verizon apps that should stop any update from taking place anyway. I thank you in advance for your help.
I downloaded the "rooted gingerbread .596" from p3droid and my Droid X has never asked to update.
the only other thing I can think of is that I accidentally hit check for update on my phone but I don't think that it should have even found the gingerbread once I had installed it myself...
I just went into my settings and into "about phone". I also checked for a update and it says that it is up to date no update is necessary. So I have no idea what is going on. Only thing I can suggest is if it continues, is to SBF back to Froyo and reinstall p3Droid's rooted .596 again. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.
You could let the update happen, it would go partially, fail and reboot and you're all set
Same problem with Sprint EVO 4g
I have also just installed "4.22.651.2 Rooted & De-Odexed" after accidentally dl the OTA update last week. I just hoped that installing the new ROM would eliminate the notifications to install the update but unfortunately it did not.
I did try to let it install so as to let it fail and rebooted, and the notification is still there.
Is there maybe a way to manually remove the update file?

this is the Droid X sub-forum. You will get the proper help if you post in the Evo section.
Sorry I just didn't find anything even closely related to this issue here and thought it would be best to not start a new thread. Isn't this a software issue and therefore somewhat universal?

here a link to the thread for your 4.22.651.2 Rooted & De-Odexed rom in the EVO section... and there's discussion in there about your exact problem http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1110733
Thank you very much!
I'm having the same problem. It comes and goes with no ability to clear. It always pops up after a reboot. It never actually downloads, at least that I've seen....
Does anyone know which package to freeze so the updater stops flagging?
Stop OTA Updates
Freeze the application called "Updater 2.3.3".

Someone else had this issue with the 2nd OTA update as well (never been rooted)...it seems the OTA update changed the status somehow...There was a solution posted, I just can't remember what it was, but while you are waiting for someone to weigh in, you might want to have a bit of a search for that thread...pretty sure it was this forum (if not it was androidcentral that I read it).
what should i search for

Sorry if I knew that, I could find the post for you. ;-p It was awhile back and I honestly don't remember other than your post sounds quite similar. Maybe "device modified message"?? In the post they definitely mentioned 3 things: 1) that they hadn't rooted their device 2) that the modified message appeared AFTER doing an update 3) they couldn't update again after the status changed to modified. But I can't remember any of the exact wording.
Sorry I'm not more help, I just mainly wanted to reassure you that someone else has come up against this, and there is a solution.
Hope someone can give you better help.
Turn the phone off, pull the external SD card, and then restart it. Your status should go back to official. Once it does it's OK to reinsert the SD card. I have no idea what causes this issue but what I described seems to correct it.
You might need to reboot twice with the SD card out.
