how about you start at www.verizonwireless.com?
Oh really? Get tthe hell out of this forum if you're going to be like that. I posted that because I've spent about an hour searching that damn site and no matter what I try, I can't seem to get to an email link. So unless you have something helpful to post get off this forum

Please don't feed the trolls. While poorly put, he does have a point... this was pretty easy to find.
Speaking of which - you need to navigate to that address manually, so:
1. verizonwireless.com
2. 'Contact us' link in top link bar (small, blue)
3. 'send an email' box (left side)
4. select the appropriate account type and click the arrow
6. 'send an email' box (lower left hand corner)
7. fill the form and send

I can't tell you how many times I've seen you tell somebody, "search is your friend," instead of giving them helpful information as well.

Telling people to search is good. It stops them from posting more stupid questions. Unless you were looking for some secret email address that cannot be found easily on the website....

In case you can't read, I CLEARLY stated that I had been searching their site and Google for about an hour.
I have been to the contact us page, I selected the most appropriate option I could find, and the site said that email support was not available for this category.
For the person who provided the email, thank you I will try that
If it helps, I want to ask them to clarify part of the terms of service regarding reasons they can discontinue service
I agree & if u have to spend an hour of ur life searching google on how 2 email verizon... I'm sorry throw ur phone away... I'm suddenly angry @ur parents

Now that os just disrespectful and completely unnecessary. If you do not have a helpful comment, go to a thread where you have one. Let me reiterate what I said earlier because you obviously didn't read anything I said except that one little part.
I go to Verizon's website, I select contact us, I select email and the most appropriate option and I am told that email support is not available for that type of question.
After google'ing how to contact Verizon, I get the www22 page that was also provided in this thread by someone who actually is here to help not be a jerkoff. When going through the categories on this site, I discovered that this was for everything but mobile phone service such as internet, home phone, fios, and the other services provided.
Now since you obviously know exactly what to do, why don't you just share it with the community instead of being an asshole about someone's question?

Because this is a development thread. Where people develope programs and provide assistance on them. Its not the yellow pages. No one here works for you. We are not your secrateries. New threads like this clog up the forum and make it difficult for those of us who use search. Take some time to read the forum rules.
Here is the hint. Top of this page to the right is a "Search" button. Its just below your name. Use it to search the contents of your original subject line of this thread. If you can copy/paste the http address of your search result to prove to me you did your due dilegents, but still cant find your answer, I will help you learn how to use search properly so you don't continue to post new threads. But at this point I don't think you have used more than 2 minutes of your time searching on your own.

Wow, never before have I seen such "jerk" behavior at xda deverlopers. I know the person should have searched and I'm not discounting that fact, but there is NO reason to jump down someone's throat with that tone. Sorry, I'm a Japanese and I ever saw how much loathing and hatred went into your post. Next time, please do more courteous behavior... if not, I hate to think of how people will treat you.

The reason people tell you to search is because this site, like any other activity has rules. One of them is to READ and SEARCH to find the answers yourself before you post a question that has been answered in numerous other locations. While some people may be overly aggressive in their suggestion that you use the search function, it does not make their point any less valid. There are a lot of people on this site, and all of them are volunteers. Nobody gets paid to be here. When you decide that you're gonna clutter the forum with threads and posts that have already been answered very thoroughly in easily searchable locations then it just makes it more difficult for people who actually do know how to use the site properly to find anything. So in the future, if you have an interesting idea (which you did) then do some looking to see if maybe somebody else had that same idea and post your thoughts there. That way everyone who is interested in that idea can go to one place to follow any development that happens there. Otherwise you are basically saying to all the people who put a lot of time in here, that you think your time is more valuable than their's. Which puts us in this perpetual cycle of people who don't know anything complaining because the people who do know the answers want them to learn how to find the answers rather than just giving them the answer.

Search the entire forum. In fact google the interenet for the question I posted in that thread. It is no where to be found. And it was a development idea posted in a development thread after all that searching had been done. Your not comparing apples to apples. In fact there is no comparable comparison.
Anybody got an answer to that thread let me know b/c it still hasn't been solved!!!! LMFAO!!

I was less of a dip**** and it continued to happen. At least this is getting some attention that may make a noticable difference of noob's continuing down the same old path of ask questions first, search as a last result.
It would be great if the Moderators would put a sticky at the bottom of the sticky posts for this forum titled "How to Use Search before you post a New Thread" since noob's aren't even taking the time to read the forum rules. While their at it make the title of the sticky thread alway stay BOLD even if no new posts are made in it.
Hey Mods!!!! What do you think of that idea???

hello,
how would I go about setting up HTC Home to shortcut to PocketCM for SMS instead of the default wm6.1 SMS app?
I have dcd 2.3.2 installed. I still like the HTC Home plugin and it works very well for my needs, however it is a pain in the arse that the shortcut "notification" points to my old app. Not sure if I am explaining this correctly. On the HTC Home plugin, there is the Email notification, the SMS notification and the Missed Calls notification right under the clock. The middle "number" points to the SMS app, I want to change this to point to PocketCM. And yes I have the option unchecked in pocketcm to "use old application for sms".
Thanks.

If I did that, then every time you need something you didn't want to spend more than a few moments looking for you would just simply start a new thread and ask a question. It would be your trained response. Thats not acceptable here. The answer is on this site. It may or may not be the one you want but I am not willing to give it to you. You must search for it. I know it exists because I searched for it.
Thanks

Try checking the links next time; even though the results don't specifically say "PocketCM SMS" or whatever in them, they are related. I searched "HTC HOME SMS" and the 3rd, 4th, and 5th results are all the same request that you have, except with different programs.
No harm done, though, now you know.

OK Curious G... now that you've gone against your own statements by perpetuating an extraneous thread. Yes I did just perouse some of your previous posts and I may add that early on you did have a few less than stellar posts of your own. Dont forget that we were all once noobs and needed a little guidance. If everyone that achieved Sr.Member status stopped answering arsenine questions then there would be no new development and we'd all still be using locked phones with only the junk the carriers put on them.
In any case getting back on toppic.
I do believe that the question was asked, if the SMS button on HTC Home could be redirected to use another application.
The short answer is NO it can not. It is hard coded into the signed DLL file. There is a thread where someone was attemting to HEX edit the DLL file to redirect the functions. They had minor success but nothing that would enable what you and many other are looking for. The other problem was that since the app is signed, altering it would break the signing and result in the app not functioning.
This concludes our special report.
We now return you to the previously scheduled flaming.

I told him in the second post that the answer may or may not be to his liking. I already new the answer was no. I didn't want him to have that answer here becuase he would and will just continue to post questions as he sees fit instead of being conditioned into deep searching first.
Ah.. I see. It was learned behavior. As a noob you were repeatedly instructed to search for your own answers and as such you propogate the cycle by disceminating the same attitudes toward other noobs.
I also see you contradict yourself within the same sentence by stating that you care nothing of the status indicators yet call out that I am still just a noob. While yes my post count is extreemly low and my join date is October of last year. I have in fact been coming to these forums for quite a long time and on average spend hours a day reading the posts. On average I rarely post and typically find my own answers. So while in title I am still classified as a noob I would in fact be nothing close to noobish.
With respect to "it is about the expectation of people to be their personal answering service in a hacking and development forum."
Definitions of forum:
a public meeting or assembly for open discussion
a public facility to meet for open discussion
I do believe that by expecting people to come here and answer their own questions that would completely undermine the definition of forum. As such this would mean that the devs should not share the information that they have gained and tell everyone to go find the answers themselves.
Some forum that would be. Post after post of go search for the answer.. Oh wait. No one ever shared the answer therfore there is nothing to search for.
Finally. If you already knew the answer, then would it have just not been simpler to post NO IT CAN NOT and have been done with this?

Actually, they are are to make an honest attempt at answering their own questions. That is done by searching. In this Forum the developers post programs and support is provided by both they and other members who may be able to lend a helping hand on that topic in that thread. Others may lend a suggestion towards a development idea but only after it has been researched to confirm they are not double posting. As for the dictionary definition you have quoted; well, for here, your just plain wrong. Probably has to do with that fact that you are noob and haven't read the forum rules yourself. This forum has a clear policy stating a member of any calibur should detail search before they post.

None of the above. I'm an Integration Engineer for one of the leading global companies in component and systems manufacturing and distribution. My primary task is to write assembly/configuration documentation for hardware, software and various OS's for our production lines.
I basically get handed a pile of components with details on how a particular customer needs the system to function etc. I then build, configure and document it so that it can be reproduced hundreds or thousands of times without error.
HD has been around for many months now and the forum seems to be full of duplicate messages and requests.

Not really a practical way of doing this as the whole process would just repeat itself.
A few ways of doing this:
1. Leave it as it is
2. Have more categories so questions on specific topics are in specific folders i.e. all game threads in one folder, all threads on battery in other and so on.....but this would create dozens of folders, so again not practical.
3. Have a new setup so noobs aren't actually able to post questions unless they have already searched the forum.....but again, this also isn't practical
4. Have a section for noobs where all basic questions are asked and then another section for other members....but again, I'm not sure this would work either as a person may be posting their first thread but be an experienced user.
Personally, I would just leave it as it is, and possibly just delete a few threads which are useless to clear the waste
Baby and bathwater spring unbidden to mind!
sorry to say.....
when a new phone comes out.....this happens to all threads
when the diamond came out...we was in the same boat..
when the diamond2 come out....it will all happen again
you have to get used to it....thats what happens when n00bs get new toys

Totally agree, thats why after all my suggestions I said it wouldn't work so just leave it as it is!!
while i agreee thre are lot of multiple threads i still beleive leaving them up is the besy way to help as user SHould search theyll get more options
ive just got this toy. but ive owned a godd few winmo phones before hand so im no noob but we alll have issues
Something that would help i think is better use of the wiki. Each cook having a page, each rom having its own page. each app having its own page. the discussion belongs in forum but ROMs should have their own page then theres 1 location for update info, details ect.

Mabe start the cleaning process by banning all the "nOOb" bashers. That would cut down on a lot of the redundency around here.
If you cant beat them.... join them....
well...
If wiki was better organized... and have screenshots tutorials... and it should be a separate child forum for each phone

Or integrate an automatic search screen (maybe a popup to act as a temporary block) for:
a) anyone starting a new thread with
b) less than 40 or 50 posts history.
Then continue VIGILANTLY marking and reporting useless/repetitive threads.

Quite like this idea of a pop up for noobs asking them to check if question has already been asked and telling them how to use the site including search option!

Should be easy to implement as well, I think. Mind you we'll still need to do the cleaning up.

All we need is a few MOD's to have a look at this thread and hopefully some ideas will get implemented.......obviously not all
I will vote for changing the forum first page. Giving that the number of devices is increasing, it is getting harder to find your phone through all of them. Maybe it is possible to categories it like saying depending on the model year/release date or specificationsod the device. That would be much more interesting than scrolling the whole page waiting to find a specific one.

ya.. ya... more option is good... may be almost the same problem but different solution...
Summarize
Major issue is looooong threads - which just go on and on. In the case of an answer to a particular problem - as soon as someone has a definitive answer the thread needs to be marked as Solved and the answer put in a reserved slot on the first page. It can me a nightmare going through a dozen solutions to fix a problem - and with people quoting bit's all the time there's probably 50% of the info duplicated.
Still
Best forum going

Good idea!
All threads should be done this way, i.e. once a solution to a query or bug is solved it should be posted at start of thread!!

But the thing is Fallen, I've been trolling these forums for years, ever since I got my universal roughly 3/4 years ago. The majority of posts I have made really has been to help other people.
I am not a noob but have not made many posts, I am a competent programmer and can solve problems without having to post... Usually.
It would be really annoying if the few times I did need to post for help, or to share information, I would have to answer to a stupid popup asking me whether I have searched or not!
However, I do agree there is a severe lack in understanding the search facility on these forums, I think if a NOOB filter were to be placed it should go on join date.
P.S My join date was before Aug 07 I just forgot my email and password
Is there a way to resign the APKs generated by Googles App Inventor? (if you change, say the icon)
Couldn't you just use the testsign.jar?

I don't know what this is.
You mean I should change the name of the apk to testsign.jar? Or is it something I should find somewhere?

Thanks for nothing.
If anybody actually wants to help feel free to post.

...be nice. He was trying to help.
Ok, so I just done a search for "testsign android" and the 1st link is http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=3175518&postcount=2
.... I think that'l help.

No. Helping would be saying "You do this "insert explanation". Just posting that is trolling. He might as well have posted "oil platform, platypus, beetle" it tells me nothing, and I have no idea what it is and searching for it is no help at all. As always if people don't want to help that's fine but they should shut up then.

That thread is about making a theme, I don't want to make a theme. I want to sign an apk (actually I want to change an ICON but someone says you have to sign the apk whatever that means).
(Also note first line: "you will need a working knowledge of android, adb,how to resign apk's" - I don't have that, I don't have that, I don't know how to do that!)
Anyway, unsubbing this thread.
Perhaps the problem was using "sign" in the subject.
I shall make a new post with a more newbish title.
@Kermode
You want to do something, but don't want to get knowledge on how to do that, because this is too much for you. Not everything could be explained in two words.
If it means reading hundreds of threads with hundreds of irrelevant and offtopic messages, yes then it is too much for me. If it meant reading a concise page with only relevant information, perhaps it wouldn't be too much.
And whilst two words are enough for nothing, everything can be reduced to a relatively short core meaning.
Ok, I think easiest way is to:
unzip apk file
find and replace an icon
remove META-INF dir
zip everything back and name it as *.apk
sign it: you could search for testsign tool or look here: http://d.android.com/guide/publishing/app-signing.html . Most important for you are "Obtain a suitable private key" and "Sign your application with your private key".

PEOPLE like you really piss me off on forums...you dont bother looking up information like you should, your very disrespectful, and from what ive seen your an all around! Sorry for my language MODS but someone has to say it. You should learn your spot and if you wanna learn how to resign then look as there are plenty of threads. You just want someone to give you everything and do it the easy way. Sometimes in order to do things you must do your homework which apparently you cant do.
For the way you acted to the other guy i would suggest that NO ONE help this guy and let him learn how to do it by himself Since he pretty much just said he isnt gunna look through threads he wants it handed to him(look at the post above)!
PEOPLE like you disgust me!
@OP:
Sufficient responses have been provided to an improperly titled thread.
XDA is about knowledge and experiences whilst using a particular device, application, or custom (tweak) work. As such, you will encounter numerous posts in threads that may provide less relevance than others within the same thread - it is your responsibility to "filter" past such posts ... this is no different than any other Forum you may frequent.
Additionally, there is an option in your profile to view up to 50 posts/screen page ... this greatly helps filter more content at once.

Hi, i keep seeing that I have to press *#1234# to see some details like CSC on my phone, but it doesn't work for my Vibrant. Anyone else having this? It just stays there and waits for me to press something, like it is a regular phone number
not the brightest of the bunch huh.
the code is *#*#1234#*#*.

Haha. Classic.
You don't have to be a **** about it. Peoples attitudes here suck here recently.
engineer14, I only use android for 2 days. Also every time I saw it it was just plain *#1234# and not with the extra symbols as you said. I thought it was like that since showing IMEI, is similar code with only *#06#. But I guess you're too damn smart to think all this.....
Thanks Broken
Why do you have to insult him like that? He asked for a little help and you go and reply with that, I mean really was that necessary? Do you feel better about yourself being such a jerk? Whatever, you use more energy to post an insult like that instead of just pointing someone out in the right direction.

Why don't you all relax a little? They do have a point about your unnecessary remark but let's chill out....can we all just get along?

well, i never saw this code before, i looked at other codes and applied common sense to get it.
*#*#44336#*#*
*#*#4636#*#*
*#*#2222#*#*
*#*#197328640#*#*
...
list goes on, i wonder if there is a trend there, or if taking 2 seconds to google 'samsung vibrant dialer codes' is a smart move.
BTW i just got all those codes from google.
unless you've only used google for 2 days too!
Well next time don't think it is ok to insult someone just to make a point. From what you just explained then fine, ignore the post and let the OP Google it himself.

The EXACT reason why I've learned how to flash ROM's, ODIN, use CWM, switch modems, change kernels and customize my phone in ways I never thought possible...... Without ever really asking any questions.
To the OP: When you are in need of an answer to a question, a great place to start is the Vibrant Bible. You can probably find just about everything you ever wanted to know... it's located in the development section (can't post the link) and don't let these kind of people get you down or discourage you from asking questions so you get to learn about and enjoy your phone to the fullest. From my experience here on XDA the majority of members will gladly help someone in need. All in all, it is a great "community"
My comment
People need to remember that comments spoken is jest usually do not translate into funny comments written.
XDA is great forum with alot of great info......
cheers
