SD-Card-Slot killed via wipe?! - Legend General

Hey there, just have a f**** problem.
Yeah, I know it s my fault etc...
BTW: My HTC Legend is SOFF, and I have a nandroid backup.
My HTC Legend worked finde some hours ago.
Tried the newest CM nightlies etc...
Then, I installed the new Clockworkmod v.3.0.2.4 and wanted to wipe all back:
So I went into the CWM-menu and agreed the following steps:
- format /misc <-- NEVER DO THIS!!!!!
- format /boot
- format /system
- format / cache
- format /data
then I wanted to flash the new rom (install zip from SDCARD), but suddenly i got an error:
"Error mounting SD-Card".
I thought it is a bug from the new CWM, so i flashed the old CWM 2.5.0.1 back and tried again. But i got shooked:
The same error appeared!
Ok, then I tried another SD Card, nothing changed. All SD Cards work perfect on PC and have no errors...
So I think the issue comes from formating any partition...
So i flashed boot, system back via "ADB", because I cannot use SD Card anymore on my phone...
By trying to get the data partition back on the phone, I get the error: "partition does not exist"
Got it now with a very old nandroid to get bootet, but there is still no data-partition and i cannot get the SD card????
So I hope anybody out there could help me to save my Legend....
EDIT: I got it!
In fastboot i had to use ADB Command:
fastboot oem enableqxdm 0

Can't Wipe SD Ext

Hey everyone,
I just rooted my Hero awhile ago and everything went fine... However, I tried to flash a ROM to it and something seems to have screwed up. It booted once, but it wasn't to the new ROM, it seemed like it was back to factory settings... and now it won't get past the initial HTC logo when I try to boot. I can reach the recovery, but I've tried wiping everything and restoring with Nandroid and still nothing.
I think the problem may be with the wipe. When I wipe data/factory reset, I get "No app2sd partition found. Skipping format of /sd-ext." I'm new at this but I've noticed most ROMs saying that sd-ext needs to be wiped. Is this why I can't boot the phone? Is there a way to fix this?
Thanks.

Yes, that's way.
You need to wipe the ext partition -- most likely the partition that houses Apps2SD.
**This will ERASE everything on the SD Card. Before trying this, you need to back up your sd card (pictures, music, etc) -- meaning, copying all the stuff from the card onto your Desktop or somewhere on the computer before proceeding to the next step.
To do so; go into recovery and choose:
1. Partition sdcard
2. Partition SD
3. Press Home to confirm
4. Set Swap-size to 0 MB (Use trackball)
5. Set Ext2-size to 0 MB (Use trackball)
6. Fat32-size = Leave that to Remainder
7. Press Home to confirm.
This will FORMAT (erase) everything on your SD card, but not the phone. For good measure, I would wipe your phone and Dalvik once more before flashing the ROM again. After its done, you can reboot, mount your SD Card and copy what you saved to the desktop (or wherever) back onto the SD card.
If you want Apps2SD (I'll presume you have a regular 2 gig SD Card), then after wiping both your phone and Dalvik; you'll need to follow the steps above to wipe the Ext partition, but instead of setting your swap to 0, set it to 128. Then set your Ext2/3/4 to 1 Gig (1024 megabtyes) and leave the Fat32-size as Remainder. For larger cards, you can adjust the Ext/2/3/4 partitions to about half the size of your SD Card. (Ex. 4 gig card; set Ext to 2 gigs, leave Fat32 as remainder).
Good luck.
I'm not seeing the partition option, maybe I should've mentioned I'm in Clockwork Mod recovery. Under the partitions menu there is an option to format sdcard, will that have the same effect? I've tried format sd-ext, but of course it didn't work..
Edit: I've reformatted the SD card, but still can't boot, and am still getting the No app2sd partition found error when I select wipe data/factory reset. Is there a way to get to the partition sd option with this Clockwork Mod recovery?

Clockwork Mod? Can you please link where you got this? The only recovery ROM's I'm familiar with are RA 1.3.2, 1.5.2, 1.6.2, and Godspeed. I would highly advise installing the latest RA 1.6.2 or Godspeed recovery images, as the advise myself or anyone else gives you will pertain almost always to those recovery images.
The tutorial I was using to flash the ROM recommended using an app from the app store called ROM manager, which installed the Clockwork mod. I'm attempting now to get RA 1.6.2 on it instead.
What's the best way to install a new recovery ROM? using this one, I can get connect to the pc and get a command window open, but from there what I'm trying doesn't seem to be working.
Problems with sd card
this seems like a good place to ask..after trying to flash a new rom(aloysuis) i hung on the black htc screen. i abondoned that card, inserted my old, reflashed fixxxed on there and its fine. i put my other sd card in that wouldnt work, formatted and copied the working card contents back on it. running fixxxedsense my phone upon loading says "sd card removed, Insert a new one. plug it in and it doesnt give me an option to mount, but when im in recovery mode it lets me mount and see all the contents i put on there. Did i ruin my sd card r is there a problem with the partitions maybe?

It seems the partitions might be the problem.

After you've done this; your card will have nothing on it. You should be able to use the card again, I would try using it again and see if you can mount it; both in recovery and in regular phone mode.

If you have a SD Card adapter or a card reader that can read mini-sd cards:
1. Plug your sd card into the reader/adapter; then to the computer
2. Right click on the removable drive in My Computer
3. Choose FORMAT
4. Quick Format is fine
5. After it's complete, close the window and test the card again.
If it fails again or gives error messages, you might have a bad card.
Okay, got the new recovery, partitioned and wiped everything, and am trying to flash the ROM again. Wish me luck
Okay, now I get past the HTC logo, and it seems to be loading the ROM, then it freezes. I've let it sit for around 5 minutes now with nothing, is this normal for the first load of a ROM or should I try to restore my backed up nandroid?
ClockworkMod has a problem with wiping ext. Amon_RA or GodSpeed should work fine.

The first boot can take some time. With that said, 5-20 minutes is usually best to give the intitial boot. If it still isn't booting; redownload the ROM and try reflashing.

[PROBLEM] Clockwordmod recovery issue

hello,
i am havin annoyin issue with clockwordmod recovery 2.x.x.x.x, it doesnt see new files on sd card.. i have tried formating sdcard from recovery but it didnt format it at all.. next i formatted sd in windows, but still.. when i log into recovery it suppouse to show the files i've uploaded onto sdcard which were; cm7, nightly 40, new radio, gapps.. but instead it shows the old files which are not on the sdcard.. the problem is more annoying because i ve notticed that after formatting system, wipping cache etc.. so now i have only acces to broken? recovery and my wf gets bootloop all the time.. please help is there any way to flash the new cm7 from pc or somehow fix the sd card and flash new cm7 and fix the recovery??
i have searched @ google but i found notting..
please help ; /
cheers,
Have u tryed using unrevoked again n updateing with Rom manager
Do u have another SD card
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App
i cant use unrevoked and rom menager because my wf doesnt load os.. i was tryin to put update.zip and load it from sd card but it says "cant open E:/sdcard/update.zip (bad) installation aborted.", ive load even file as pc49img.zip, in bootloader it says it's parsing and it looks like everything is ok but still have no updatec cmw ;/.
and no i do not have another sd card ;/
Surely borrowing an SD card from some of your close ones shouldnt be an issue? Anyway, did you try using an RUU to get back to the default state?
i;ve tried to use ruu, it only sees my phone while the htc logo but it says it's not enough charged.. i think ill try to wait until green led comes up and try it again ;/

Sounds like you might have partitioned your card, and now are looking at two different partitions, one from windows, one from recovery. You could try repartitioning it from recovery, to make sure that you only have one FAT partition and one EXT and that they are in the correct order.
Mine has its FAT partition on p1, and ext2 on p2.
hey mate,
could you guide me how to do it? in recovery i have;
unmount system
unmount data
unmount cache
mount sd-card
when i click on mound sd-ext it says "ERROR MOUNTING SDEXT:!"
;/
i took off the sd card and formatted it then i mount it into the device and tried to choose zip file but it was unmounted in options so it didnt show me any files, next i've mounted sd card and left sd-ext unmounted and againt its the same, it shows me the old files which dont even exist anymore, i guess it maybe something with partitionin, but how to do it? could you guide me how to make one fat and one ext ? like u have? thx in advance
I partitioned mine from a linux PC with an SD card reader attached, but it should work from recovery as well.
From the Clockworkmod recovery menu, choose advanced and then partition sd card then choose the size you want for the ext partiton, then the size for the flash partition (if any). That should set them up correctly in the correct order.
Questions/Problems don't belong in the Development section <---please click link and read....moved to general...
i've wipped cache and during wippin it said that there is no sd-ext partiotion ; / it's something wrong with clockwork but i have no idea what.. it shows only the old files that i've loaded on sd before flashing with cm7 rc-2 ;/ the weird thing is that i remember that i updated cmw do newest 3.0.5... (something like that - the orange one) and it worked fine but next when i log into recovery it shows the older version oO
i successfuly manange to update cmw, i used adb in that purpouse and now everything works fine

[Q] Error Formatting /data

I am currently on HC3.2 Honey Villain 1.2 rooted device. I used to be using Taboonay 2.1 and suddenly went off and reboot with boot loop.
I tried to install other Rom yet, all of them stuck on boot loop. I realized that i cannot format /data as the error came out as
error removing /data/data/com.estrongs.android.pop/lib/libes_dropbox.so
What should i do?
PS: i have been reading this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1126364
and i encounter this
NOTE:
If you encounter a problem with the filesystem on /data like it has become corrupt, place a blank file called "eraseData" (without the quotes) in the clockworkmod folder on your external sdcard or usb storage. This will revert back to actually formatting /data.
WARNING: by doing this you will lose everything that you have in /data/media.
but i dont understand how to do that

If you ran a backup before installing a new ROM, which you should have, all you need to do is create a blank file named "eraseData" (without the quotes) in the clockworkmod folder on your external SD card where you stored your backup. Exactly which part of this don't you understand. Maybe I can help?

Can't write to internal EMMC

Hi,
I have a nook that I rooted and put a custom rom on back about a year and a half ago. I flashed the ROM to the internal EMMC and CWM 3.2.0.1 was flashed as recovery. If it makes any difference it was a CM9 ROM
Now here's where I'm at. I can run ROMs off the sd-card but they are not stable at all. I get a whole bunch of force closes and such.
When I try and flash a new ROM to the internal EMMC it says it completes, but nothing changes. It is still the previous ROM. When I try and format the /data and /system partitions with the EMMC recovery, it doesn't complete. It says there is an error. When I format with TWRP off an sd card, it says it completes but once again, the rom is not wiped.
I've tried the 8 reboot error method, and it never gets to the stock recovery screen. It keeps booting to the EMMC ROM.
I've tried repartioning the EMMC with leapinlar's zip files. It says it successfully completes, but once again nothing changes.
Ideally I'd like to get the emmc back to stock and try and run a rom off the sdcard.
I've read the threads that I thought were applicable to my issues, but nothing seemed to work. I'm completely out of ideas. Anyone have similar issues or can provide some guidance?
Thanks.
The problem you are having running a ROM from SD is the brand and speed of SD you are using. It needs to be SanDisk class 4.
The reason the 8 failed boot does not work is you replaced the stock recovery with CWM. It needs the stock recovery to be able to complete. See my NC tips thread linked in my signature and read item A12. Assuming you can get it to flash, I have a stock recovery zip there.
I don't understand why the ROMs are not flashing. You say it gives errors when you try to wipe with CWM. What do the errors say? You used the internal CWM and TWRP on SD, but none worked. Try my bootable CWM SD to see if that helps.
I don't understand why my partition zips did not work. I know the newest TWRP will not flash them without giving an error 2 message. Try my bootable CWM SD.
Sent from my Nook HD+ running CM10.1 on Hybrid SD
Thanks for the advice...
I've been using a Patriot class 10 micro sd to run the roms/attempt to flash new roms. Its worked fine before, but I'll try and pickup another one from someplace.
When I try and format /system and /data from the emmc CWM it says "Error formatting /system" or "error formatting /data" after working away for about 5 minutes
Here's what i did:
Created CWM 6.0.1.2 Bootable SD
- Flashed NookColor-emmc-stockrecovery.zip
- Message said successfull.
- tried to restart and old CWM recovery 3.2.0.1 was still installed
Booted into CWM 6.0.1.2 Bootable SD Recovery
- mounted /system and /data
- attempted to format
- Message "Done." for both
- attempted to flash stock 1.4.3 that you have modified for CWM
- install from sdcard complete
- reboot
- Old CynanogenMod bootscreen and old rom still installed.
Using same CWM 6.0.1.2 Bootable Sd Recovery
-flashed NookColor-emmc-repair-partitions-1-4-5-6-7-8.zip and NookColor-emmc-format-partitions-5-6-7.zip
-said success
-attempted to flash stock 1.4.3
- nothing changed. Old rom still installed
One more thing I noticed:
Everytime I login to the currently flashed rom, any changes I make are never saved. For example, if i install an apk or uninstall an app, the next time i can successfully boot into the emmc ROM, those changes are reversed to the previous version. Could it be that the current rom is being stored somewhere and being reflashed when it tries to bootup?
I hate to say this, but it sounds like your internal embedded card has become read only. I have had this happen to SDs but not to emmc. The apps act like they are writing and if you leave the folder and come back, they are not there. It is like they are writing to a ramdisk instead of your SD. You might try booting to a ROM on SD and see if you can write to any of the internal partitions like /cache or /rom and see if they stick. If not, you may only be able to run off SD and maybe not even then. You might have to change your dalvik cache setting on SD so it uses /data instead of /cache.

I tried copying a file to the emmc partition from twrp and it didn't persist after reboot... so it looks like the emmc is set to read only. I don't supposed I can change that using adb and/or software solutions right? It's a hardware issue?
Any guidance on how to change davlik cache to use /data instead of /cache? I'll be happy to get any sort of stable rom running off any SD card.
I was hoping to repurpose the nook as in in car tablet to tether a data connection to my phone and play music and such.
Thanks for your help. I appreciate you taking the time.

I don't know of anything that can revive it. I never could revive my SD that that happened to.
To make your ROM on SD use /data for all of the dalvik cache, create a file in /data named local.prop. In that file put this line:
dalvik.vm.dexopt-data-only=1
Next time it boots the system file portion of dalvik cache will be on /data along with the installed app portion.
Sent from my stock Nook HD+ using XDA Premium
I now have a stable version of CM 7.2 running off the SD card. I put the davlik cache on the data partition and everything seems to be running pretty smooth.
I'll keep messing around seeing if there is anything to revive the internal emmc, but at least I can use the nook off the SD card again.
Thanks for helping me troubleshoot and figure this out. Cheers.

[Q] Yet another bricked defy. can't restore cwm backup

Hi,
well... what can i say... i bricked my beloved defy. =(
How it happened:
Since Quarx's CyanogenMod 7 i used several CyanogenMod Versions from Quarx und Epsylon until about 2 weeks ago. I had the CM10 (4.1.2) Version from 11.05. installed.
Then i saw Quarx new release from 16.06.
Before i flashed the new version i made a full backup with cwm 5.7.0. Then i installed the new version trough cwm. everything look fine. But there wen't something really wrong. After rebooting the phone got stuck even before 2ndinit. I tried it several times but the the phone wasn't booting any more.
I thought: no problem. I have a backup. Let's restore is quickly. The easiest way to me was:
- start the phone in bootloader
- flash a stock sbf with rsd lite (sbf: JRDNEM_U3_3.4.2_179-002_DEBLUR_SIGN_SIGNED_UCAJRDNEMARAB1B80AA03A.0R_PDS03C_UCAJRDNFRYORTCOREEU_P023_A008_HWp3_Service1FF.sbf
- root the phone with superoneclick
- install 2ndinit for defy (SndInitDefy_2.3.apk i think it's cwm 5.0.3.1)
- restore backup
but here the problem beginns trying to recover /system(log from recovery):

Error while restoring /system!
Problem while restoring system !
-------------------------------------------------------
i tried so many things like:
- install cm10 an try restoring with cwm 5.7.0 (same error)
- different stock sbf's (makes no difference)
- extracting system.ext3.tar and copying i to /system with adb (stops copying at about 50%)
and much much more... i forgot the rest ^^
the thing is.... i have no idea what exactly is going wrong. In my opinion it's here in the log: "Remount /system read-only". how should cwm be able to write the backup into system i it is mounted as "read-only".
im working on it since the last 2 weeks and it is getting super frustrating =(
Hopefully someone has better ideas than me? I would appreciate it.
At least: thanks for reading!
There are 2 possibilities according to me (I may be wrong:silly
1. Your backup might be corrupt -> try another backup
2. Your eMMC memory chip may be corrupt -> send your phone for service
TRY Wipe system cache and data then restore.
OR
Install CM10 with cwm (example 26 March build), restore only data, then dirty flash the latest CM10 (only wipe cache and dalvik). Old builds of CM10 can cause problems.

Thank you for your answer!
I believe the backup files are ok. md5 is ok and the recovery log says: backup ok, but internal storage.... is weired.
Maybe a fried eMMC. But how? And buying a new phone is sadly way cheaper than service.
I wiped cache and data endless times. But no luck.
Is it possible to wipe (format) system?
I installed different versions from cm10 and they are running fine. But i really would like to restore my backup. There's a lot of work in it. =(
Tried this also 2 times: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1807899
But with this method, the phone won't boot up and got stuck in a bootloop. Can't even see the cm logo. An it makes no difference what version of CM10 is installed.

Yes, wiping system is important in this case. The option is present on the main screen of CWM.

I would like to format /system. But how? I can't find this option in cwm (5.7.0).
- Reboot system now
- Apply update from sdcard
- Wipe data/factory reset
- Wipe cache partition
- Install zip from sdcard
- Backup and restore
- Mounts and storage
- Advanced
- Power off
- Exit Recovery
- Go Back
It is possible to format some unmounted partitions in "Mounts and storage". But if i unmount /system there is only the option to "remount /system" but nothing linke "format /system".

My bad. You can try Defy full wiper (DO NOT REBOOT AFTER FULL WIPE).

OK, somehow the devices are "busy" so the wipe script couldn't wipe. Although in cwm it said it was successful.
So i tried unmounting /system, /cache and /data before running the script. Here's what i got:

Is it possible to do something about the "busy" partitions. Whatever they're busy doing
Check out these threads, not sure they'll help - http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/6433-solved-messed-up-partitions-on-internal-storage/.
AND http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=20707200
Your partitions may be in the wrong format.
EDIT - You can try starting from sbf, then installing your preferred CM10 release, and then extracting the backups into the respective directories using ES file explorer (only the files that you've changed).
EDIT 2 - Install CM10 with clockworkmod (not TWRP) and then go to bootmenu (press go back on the main screen of recovery), and then format system and data to ext4, and then try restoring backup. <------ try this first

You are in the wrong device forum.

:good::fingers-crossed:Thank you, i have a similar problem. My battery's Defy was completly discharge. Normaly, i plug my Defy, wait for 10 % charging, and i turn it on and i let the battery charging all night. But, i forgot to turn my defy on, and the morning when i turn it on, the cyanogen 7 logo bootloop.
I do a wipe system reset to factory, the defy turn on, and when i restore my backup, bootloop again.
I do what hotdog125 write, i was thinking its works, but it didn't.
I lost my data, :crying::crying::crying::crying: but i have a nice cyanogen 10 bootloop :laugh::laugh::laugh:
I finaly restore my defy with a backup do with recorvery when my phone make a bootloop.
I put cyanogen 7 and i found an application name Nandroid Manager http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2044414 , 1,46 euros, that permit to restore all or a part of the backup you do.
I restore my apps, my sms, my mms, my call log etc... i want to keep. My contact was backup on my gmail account.
Like i saw it works, i put cyanogen 11 and redo the partial restore.
My defy was fine, and increased from mb525 to mb526 when i install Cyanogen 11.
I recommand when you have an android phone to root it, put an recorvery, put Nandroid Manager and backup with recorvery regularly, you could restore all your phone if you don't change your rom, or resotre partial data if you change your rom.
Thank you to your site.:laugh::highfive:
