Hello All,
For all the Devs and Chefs I have setup a file sharing site for you all.
Please upload a Rom to it and let me know how your experiences pan out.
http://xdaupload.alpcsolutions.com/
I hope it is of use to you all. Its my way of saying thanks to you all.
For the next week if you PM me you account detials I will upgrade you to the Premium for free. After the week I will see what the takeup has been like and possibly put everyone onto premium for free.
MODs, if this is of use to everyone please put into stickys etc. If enough people donate I may be able to get a bigger server for you all.
Any issues please pop me a PM or email [email protected]
Changes Made:
7/4/11 - Single file storage for free users has been increased to 300mb. Should be enough for most sense roms.
Thanks
Ashley

because free member is limited to 200MB upload file size.
There are no restrictions on uploading files to my mirror.
Just log in with the username "Guest" and password "xda-dev". All uploaded files are verified before they are available to download, purely a legal precaution.

Added you to premium sir.
Will change the file size to 300mb for ROMs, I have only been using the Cyanogen ones witch are 80mb, sense roms are a bit larger.
Please let me know how you find it, i can make improvements only based on what people tell me

I tried using the same software you are using but it wouldn't work with my host. Hopefully both of us being a free mirror for XDA will be of use to lots of people who have rapidshare etc etc blocked at work or their country.
I am always happy to host xda or Desire HD related files too if anyone wants.

I am currently trailing AjaXplorer on a sub domain. http://www.dhd.iloveabath.co.uk
Only the ROMs are hosted there as I've not fully configured it yet.
AutoIndex is ok, but it doesn't play well with Firefox and the download counter will break your site if you don't modify the PHP.
I think all theses resources for devs/chefs is a good thing. As when is too much choice a bad thing!
I to can host files for free if needed

I got fed up of multiupload and having to find a way around either a websense block because if porn adds on the side.
The more choice devs have the better.

Hey guys,
As i see some messages about custom roms becoming possible let me bring the following back to your attention.
I've been using XDA developers for ages and lately I've been getting more and more annoyed with the fact rapidshare is used so much. The waiting and the speed are just not what you would like.
My hosting offers me 7.5 terabyte bandwidth to waste a month so I've set up an ugly but hopefully effective file-upload script on:
http://bjornbrala.com/downloads/
If you register you will be able to upload files. FTP access is also possible, but that i will need to setup separately. PM me (or email me preferably) for an account.
I hope dev's will start and use this, it free, and fast and a lot better for your users.
wow thanks man! I'm a rapidshare premium user but a free alternative is always a better solution
really really hope chefs will start putting their cooked roms there...
thanks again!!
A note, i often get questions if there are download statistics available. Yes there are
Another bump. If you want a category made for your rom, message me and i will, when you register i will make you moderator for your own category making it easy to upload and confirm file uploads.
thanks - thats sounds really good
regards
anja31
7.5Tb, that's plain ridiculous. Thanks for offering it to the community.
Hope it's backed up or there'll be some serious tears!
I hope people start using this, because rapidshare sucks.
7.5TB o_o
I make no claims what so ever about backups But in the 4 years i have had this account there have never been any serious problems so i guess it should be ok.
Anyways, i'll post up a little step plan for registring as a new uploader. Because you can upload files but cannot create your own categories, i will need to do that. Just register and PM me the name of the category you like to have and i will make it and make your account moderator, then you can upload files and confirm them yourself.
Also, if anyone knows of some nice scripts for uploads/handling of uploads please suggest, this RW Download was the only one i could find that is free
Hi Peeps,
We all want to get our downloads as easy as possible!
We all want to upload our roms, builds, Apps, cabs and fixes as easy as possible!
But not all filehosters are easy or free.
I'm gonna try and help all of us.
I setup a domain for all to use for FREE, up to 300MB per file.
When your files don't get downloaded, they will be deleted after 30 day from last download.
If you want to support this project you can get a Premium account, and you will get up to 500MB per file, and files will not be deleted, like the free account.
I would like to know from the WinMo Chefs, Android Builders & App Creators what they think of it, and if they will use it?
Feel free to check it out @ www.bytefiles.com

Spam plus trolling this equals a double ban but the idea is good, but it's not really an alternative it has the same functions and less feature I would just use multiupload or mediafire they are the best so far when it comes to features and funticionality.
Just use multiupload will be easier.

Let's hope the idea is goog enough to not double ban me
And most roms and builds are not larger then 300MB, so it's free if they want it.
And the download will only be deleted if it's not downloaded.
Only more options if you want to support me!
Tnx for voting people! ! !
Recently I've noticed that the free uploading websites have been going down and/or uploads being removed... Many of the ROM's are being pulled down. Well it's time to find a new way to host the files for free...

I would say make a free account on 000webhost, upload a mini site describing your ROM, and upload your ROM. 000webhost gives 1.5GB of space. But others may have better ways so collaborate.

You can't do that, it goes agaisn't the rules of 000Webhost.

Hmmm, I thought that I read that somewhere... Oh well, like I said collaborate, how are you gonna share your custom ROMs now?
So I'vo got a hosting space that is used to host an HD2 rom. I don't have limitations in terms of space and bandwidth but I don't want use for now...Maybe later...
How about 4shared, mediafire ?
The other solution would be to everybody send 1 € or $1 and to acquire an unlimited hosting plan with access to the devs only...
Why aren't people just using the torrent system? You can torrent from just about any modern device.
Its free, and if bandwidth is an issue for a dev, you can throttle upload speed easily and let initial leechers pick up the slack.
Not to sound sarcastic, but torrenting was made in large part FOR collaberation and sundry, not just pirating. Ironic that we've shifted back to reliance on download server services.
If folks lose the "hit and run" mentality propogated by Megafileserveuploadetc sites we can simplify this entire dynamic drastically.
[Atrix 4GWannabe] XDA Premium suggestions - Analytics opt-out, Setting backup/restore

Sounds funny but that's not bad idea, although that would work only for new/popular files...
+1 Bit Torrent... I'll seed!
im not sure why i didnt think of it either, i am not going to lie that i have been a tad illegal here and there, but i was upset about some legal files getting hit in the cross fire, i have a usb 3.0 1TB drive for my files and a 50 DL 15 UL connection with an always on connection, ill torrent my ass off knowing i wont get a letter for doing something illegal
I dont find it really a huge issue, since there are still many ways to get files if you really need or want them. Plus you can share public files from dropbox which is a fairly good way as long as you have the storage and a decent upload speed.
Where to Host android files
Through the grape vine i have learned of a new site set not yet open but sounds great for developers. its androidromhosting.com , its suppose to open soon and specialize in hosting all things android for the community, developers will have opportunities for their own portals and all kinds of cool stuff. I know some of the people involved and I will update here as soon as it opens !!
Alaq!
can you reupload fastboot wipe? all the links are dead
Please give me your input on this idea aimed at ROM Developers of the SGS3.
Since the Samsung Galaxy S3 comes with 50gb of dropbox space for two years, could you rom developers please use dropbox folder sharing as a way of distributing your roms?
Sometimes getting roms from mirrors and ad-filled file hosting sites can get really annoying. It would be really convenient if we could just join dropbox folders from a rom developer and have really easy access to roms. Devs simply need to post the folder link on their rom detail post and people can join anytime. Add folder restrictions so only the folder owner (in this case the rom developer) can modify the files. Limit your shared folder to the latest builds (or two) of your roms so people that have joined wont eat up too much of their DropBox quota. I would think like 1gb max per shared folder.
Since Dropbox is hosted on Amazon S3 infrasfructure, we would all be getting really fast speeds when downloading roms! Get rid of all those "60 seconds wait". Hopefully this method will also save developers from the crazy costs of hosting.
I dont know about you guys but my dropbox is nowhere close to be using 50gb! I wouldnt mind using 10gb of that for roms!
I also know that we have the awesome rom manager app but even that mostly links to slow mirrors. Please chime in and let me know what you think.

I think drop box stops excessive downloading like photo bucket. It is great if you PM someone the link but they don't like excessive downloading. Correct me if I am wrong.

I think thats if you direct link to a file thats made public. But what about joining folders (which would eat up your own quota).
Dikirim dari GT-I9300 mengunakan Tapatalk 2
1) Dropbox would nuke the link in no time due to traffic
2) inviting everyone who wants it to a folder would both be a HUGE pita also would break XDA rules RE direct links.
If you want file hosting, one of the best is dev-host, also XDA has a relationship with them, so if you are a RD, RT, or RC you get a free premium account, see here.
There is also Jumbofiles though they have issues at times due to load.
Also if you are a somewhat notable developer, you can sign up for a Goo.im account here.
I could go on, but there are tons of good hosts.
One of the problems is that stock SGS3 roms are HUGE (600-800meg?), so more traditional hosts wont do.
Dont you just wish we still had megaupload?

Huh? Not questioning your information...but wholly crap! 800mb? I thought motorola was bad lol... cm9 can be made to fit under 100mb... 700mb of bloat huh?

Ah ok! Thanks for the explanation! That means this dropbox idea is pretty much out then. I think a lot more rom developers need to know about that developer hosting site and the free premium account perks. After all this thread was a result of my frustration of downloading a 600mb rom for 2 hours and timing out (the recent Wanamlite rom for sgs3)

"Downloading: I9300XXALF2_I9300OXAALF2_BTU.zip | 753.5 MB"
Its just crazy, with touchwizz you are basically getting a second whole framework on top of the google stuff.
Even "lite" roms don't seem to be able to get much below 200megs, and lots are in the 600meg region.
Current SGS2 CM9 roms are 128megs, which is "large" compared to CM7 at 101megs give or take but still!
The host info was on the portal, not much more you can do to bring peoples attention to things.
Maybe if you see a dev having issues with finding hosting, point them at that portal post, even if they are not an RD/etc the free dev host stuff is good (if not great for the SGS3 as the limit is 512MB ) (the XDA premium thing is 10 files at up to 10gig each!)

Simple. During the horrible time SOPA was consider for legislation, many of the file upload sites on the internet went dark. Along with those sites hundreds and hundreds of Atrix files when into history as well. This files, not all, but some, were unique items that can't be found any longer. This project aims at bringing all those files back together and store them on a more reliable place. But how can I help?
I'm glad you ask. You may already be in possession of the files. Or know how to fish for SBF. Maybe you are a cheesecaking fool with tons of OTA's. Maybe you created fruit cakes for older builds. There is many ways you can be of help. Best way to know is to join the IRC chat and find out, or simply join and chat.IRC CommunicationFreenode Server

Going out on a date with my gorgeous gf and be back in a few to spent the night programming project cheesecake. will be on irc and twitter. hope to see yall on irc. peace.
I hope you have a good data plan Sam. I just uploaded a bunch of files that I had and from CaelanT's link. I also searched the internet for recent sbf files since most of the links available on xda are dead. A couple were probably duplicates, but the file sizes were different so I decided to upload them.
What about custom ROMs? Any interest in preserving them?

All the files from CaelanT's link have been uploaded.
