New evo owner.

Ok. I am coming from the epic 4g. I ended up getting a evo to replace it. It's already running 2.2. What do I need to root it?

Ok thank you for the info. I am used to the epic and there is really only
One way to root.
On the evo I am seeing alot of different ways.
Seems I need to figure out which hardware version I have. Right now I don't have a pc and from what I am seeing is that since im already running 2.2 I can't root without a pc.

Successfully rooted my evo tonight using the latest unrevoked. Clockwork is working. Downloading rims now. Was a piece of cake.

It was flimsy. I don't need the keyboard. The battery life sucked. The radio always was spotty. It was a decent phone but I feel the evo is better.

Don't use clockwork use amon_ra for recovery. Clockwork does not back up the 4g keys and it has some issues with wiping.

Does that mean my 4G keys are gone it scans, but nothing pops up as I'm not in 4G coverage..

I think you should be fine. That's what 4g does if you're not in the coverage area. I've used and flashed with both Amon and Clockwork, never had issues with either. There was a version of Unrevoked early in the Evo's lifetime that borked people's 4g radios, but I don't recall any other instances that caused problems

A more important fact is that the first 2.3 phone is Nexus S, which is almost identical to Galaxy S in hardware.
Most importantly, it has hummingbird 1ghz cpu.

can roms be developed for the Epic using this SDK?

Don't be so quick to discount what the community is able to do. However, the kernel source may be needed to get it working properly on our hardware. I'd just say don't hold your breathe for it, it can be a lot of work to port code, just look at cm6.

Try EverVolv Gingerbread, it works. I wish it worked on CM7 though just a bit more customization.

theres still alot to fix and its not official build yet..still in a dev process and everyone found it a little early..from my understanding

Rooting changed so much i wasnt sure i could do it and i bricked my g2 once so i just left it alone til i felt more sure

i believe someone on the IRC said toast disabled them cause they arent playing too nicely with the kernel especially when overclocking

That was the case with the Evo, not with The shift. I can assure you that EverVolv has working Screen on- Off animations and I'm overclocked to 1.5 Ghz

To whome it may concern. With the cm7 my data speeds are REALLY slow. When i use other roms there is a noticeable speed increase in loading of webpages and data heavy apps.
Side question:
This my first CM build on a phone. I was wondering what the icon looks like when im getting 3g speeds. So far i have a green icon with a '1x' on it. Sometimes it will go grey. I didnt know if i was even getting my 3g or if its using basic '1g'.
Excuse the '1g' reference, im a noob so save your troll/flame.

I'm not using this ROM but I have seen a few people over at Android Central say the same thing.

1x is not 3g. Going grey just means its not connected to Google, I believe.
I do not have this issue.

FYI, MMS only works through a 3rd party program. Additionally, headphones still don't work.

Connect to home wifi it shows its getting great signal but it stays gray and will not connect......anyone else having this issue?

I have not had this issue with my wifi staying greyed out. Mine is actually green right now. Did you wipe everything in recovery? are you using a kernel?

What troubleshooting have you done. Get back to us and let us know what you have tried so we can rule out certain things. My first thing would be change kernels and try any AOSP kernel out there. No recommendations needed at first, let just check to see if it makes a difference

I have tried savage Zen and the kernel tat comes with it. It. Is receiving the signal but is gray so it wont transfer data. I have never had this issue with any of his other. Builds

Hmmm interesting, I'm on the latest radio's and I flashed decks earlier today and wifi wouldn't connect just like yours. just kept saying obtaining IP address. That was with the kernel that came with it and I flashed tiamat also. Any ideas??

Not to be completely obtuse but have you ruled out your router yet? And have you asked in the Evo Deck thread so that Deck could look into it?

No worries, and I tried connecting to 3 different routers. It was a no go on all 3 just kept greying out and say obtaining IP address. I'm stumped lol I sifted through the whole deck thread best I could I didn't see one mention of wifi not connecting, maybe I missed it but I better ask. Miss my wifi lol

Factory reset, wipe cache and Davik and Reflash the rom. That worked for me on the wifi issue.

Srf 1.1.1 best rom as of now

Just for you newer guys who r trying all the roms and leaks. I have tried all the leaks and numerous roms but one that I always go back to is syndicate frozen 1.1.1. I will eventually go to gingerbread for sure but right now this rom is the best hands down. There is a 1.2 version but it doesn't read the network as sprint. But 1.1.1 has a fix.zip for that.
It has no lag and I get quardrant scores of 2100 with NO overclocking I can get 2900 overclocked. Everything works and it is COMPLETLY stable. Only downfall is when first Booted it takes longer to media scan than the the GB roms but that's all the bad I can say. Hope this helps

There is a way posted to change the network name back. But unless you use the NFL or NASCAR app, the network name is meaningless.
Fyi: Quadrant doesn't mean anything.

The Sprint NFL app is pretty handy right now , until the Verizon one gets fixed for us

Do you have a link where the zip is? I've been looking but I can't find it.

I agree with the op.
Been maining this rom for months with journaling on and its been solid. I get better battery on this rom compared to any others I've tried.
