But most of my games CRASH. Some of my apps also don't want to work.
I THINK it's because of what ATT did about allowing some apps not to be installed?
Will ROOT help with this?
My MA (Moto Atrix) won't run:
NEED FOR SPEED SHIFT
ASPHALT 5
VPLAYER
And more but can't remember now.
Any help please?

Odd, the atrix comes with a NFS Demo that plays perfectly fine.
more than likely the games aren't updated to work on the phone resolution, wait for an update. or get the latest version from the market.

ALL my apps are from the market, that's what's weird.
Keep in mind that some apps and games may not work on the Atrix just yet because of the new type of display/resolution and don't forget the new tegra 2 chipset.
Sent from my Motorola Atrix 4G using XDA app
Need for speed plays great on mine. Asphalt 5 gives a white border on the right and top of display because of the resolution. I played it though and it's the fastest I've seen the game play. Larger companies like Gameloft and EA will probably update pretty quickly.
Are you talking about the full version of NFS: Shift? Of course the demo works, but the full version doesn't. It starts up and tries to download the 150mb of extra data from EA and then errors out saying "Unsupported Device". Sims 3 does the same thing.
Might want to wait a little, its not like the phone just came out today or anything.
I was surfing the internet and realized someone on xda made a program called "chainfire 3d"....here is the market link....https://market.android.com/details?id=eu.chainfire.cf3d&feature=search_result
the program allows you to change your drivers to nvidia drives and im now able to play samurai II vengeance (which is only meant for tegra 2 phones)....here is the instructions to get the driver to work...http://forum.mobilism.org/viewtopic.php?f=399&t=199488
The game runs perfectly on my phone and I haven't noticed any side effects yet..
p.s. the programs allows to even use the qualcomm drivers as well
EDIT....make sure journaling is on...here is the link for journaling......http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1071723
thanks @063_XOBX for the heads up for having journaling on before....have a nandroid backuop before applying this as well
p.s. some roms already have journaling on, so make sure to check on that before you flash the "journaling on" zip
O.O thanks for sharing! I'm going to try this out later.
Sent from my Samsung Epic
I saw that yesterday but didn't even think of a use for it. Awesome that it works.

Just a warning for anyone who runs no-journaled, it will force reboot your phone which might cause issues.

Fruit Ninja THD is pretty nice, but not enough changes other than having multiplayer (it's splitscreen, not online)
I'm trying Samurai II: Vengeance right now. I'll report back after. So far it seems good.
@whosdaman: download the Tegra Zone app off the market.
Where do you get the Tegra Games?
Alright, I've had enough time to test out Samurai II: Vengeance and the verdict is it's good. It's not amazing, but it's very smooth, seems like an interesting story, and time consuming. However, it is the classic "Hit, hit, slice, roll" controls that can seem repetitive if that's not your style. Otherwise, for a gamer like myself I think it's worth it.
Fruit Ninja THD isn't worth the upgrade, but if you've never tried Fruit Ninja before, get THD immediately!

Holy crap does it work flawlessly. That is kinda pathetic for the Tegra 2 that our phones can play their games effortlessly with a hacked opengl driver. I thought the games would at least be chugging a little bit, but they are perfect. At least Samurai II: Vengeance is.
About to try Monster Madness.
Edit: Monster Madness does not work.

Agreed! Although, this shouldn't be shocking. The reason why these games are meant for dual-core is because of the CPU usage these games use, and their ability to drain the battery pretty quickly if you play for a decent amount of time. Our phones do run the games well, however it does take up a lot of CPU usage, which is why Dual-core is more efficient since it can balance the memory between each processor without stressing either one.
But, does that really matter if you're home or at work next to a charger trying to find a way to pass some time? Of course not. Which is why this is amazing.
Chainfire is a god. Almost makes me want to find out what phone he has and switch to that. He just singlehandedly saved Android a HUGE amount of fragmentation. Seeing developers make games and apps that could only run on a specific hardware setup was worrying to me more than any other sort of fragmentation.

It's only on Tablets right now, I think.
If you look at the Tegra Zone app, it's released for Android phones sometime in June.

Did the news get around about a guy named butcher pete?
i figured everything out...i started over by restoring my nandroid backup...im running urbanlegend rom and i think it already has journaling on (im not sure and I don't know how to check if its on or not)...everything I flashed the zip for the "journaling on", my phone bootlooped...so i restored my old backup and just ran the app and everything works perfectly now...the chainfire app will works now and i am currently playing samurai ( a bit repetitive but a great game)
[email protected] i think this chainfire guy might have solved the android gaming issue also (hopefully)...being able to play games for different processers is awesome and i hope our galaxy s can keep up with the new processers and games that come out next year
the lack of a nvidia chipset is the only bump that is stopping me from getting a Galx2
So i thought it would be a good idea to create a thread in order to allow Desire HD users to share their experiences with Chainfire3D and what apps do or don't work.
The plugin used is listed on the left of the game.
WORKING
[nvidia]Fruit Ninja THD - runs great
[nvidia]Hardwood Solitaire - a little laggy in menus, gameplay is fine
[nvidia]Riptide - a little laggy during gameplay, but playable. Character's graphic a little messed up.
[nvidia]Samuria II: Vengeance - perfect, apart from some menu glitches. Press home and return for temp fix
[none]Plants vs. Zombies HD - works perfect, but buttons very small because tablet optimized
[nvidia]Pinball HD for Tegra - works perfect
[nvidia]My First TRAINZ Set - works but very slow - unplayable.
[nvidia]Backbreaker - works but animations broken
NOT WORKING
Big Bang Racing
Monster Madness
Any other games you have tried with Chainfire? I've been curious to know how Aftermath XHD plays on the Desire HD. Anyone tried that?
I'll try keep this post updated.

yeah i get that too. No big deal really.
Well, given the fact that, being underage,I have no credit card,I only tried Dungeon Defenders THD and it won't play.It instantly closes when I try to launch it.
Just to make sure, you are using the Nvidia plugin, aren't you Beaver?
Big bang racing doesn't work. Just starts up with a screen about device not meeting minimum hardware requirements, seems to be the only game so far that doesn't work.

Yeah using the Nvidia plugin. Maybe try it without the plugin? Or try playing around with the graphic settings in the Chainfire app.
I think, contrary to ethics and all that, the best thing to do is actually pirate a game, see if it works, then buy it if it works. Especially if it's not on this list.
If you buy a game (such as Doktaphex presumably did with Big Bang Racing) and find it doesn't work, you've essentially wasted money on a game that doesn't work.
I know some people will take this the wrong way, but I firmly believe it's the best way to do it.

Well,I can confirm that Dungeon Defenders works, just not the Tegra edition. When you launch it first time with the Tegra plugin,it downloads the Tegra files, but it cannot start the game itself. If you download the game with the Tegra plugin, then switch the plugin off and run it,it will download the Qualcomm files and run ok.Just a little choppy at times but whatever!
It's quite good in fact.I just got addicted!

So my new SGS2 has ALL this graphical horsepower...is there anything that actually takes advantage of it? I haven't found any reviews of mobile games that really talk about graphics, so I thought I'd ask the xda users what you guys would suggest...
Galaxy on Fire 2 THD
Grave Defense HD is pretty awesome on GS II
Reptide GP. Galaxy on Fire 2. Or that Samurai game. All these are Tegra 2 optimized games, so they look great.
Non tegra games... Modern Combat 2, Grave defence HD, Battlehart...
I also impres my friends with old games running on emulators, like Zelda, Super Smash Bros, Final Fantasy, etc

There is a pretty long post about the differences between tegra games and non-tegra games. Tegra "optimized" games are simply using nvidia texture compression method
Maybe I'm doing something wrong but when I go to the android market and try to install a tegra game in my sgs2, it says the mobile is incompatible and doesn't allow the installation process to go through.
Is there a way to circumvent this?
Thanks for any tips.

From what I've heard, Tegra-only effects are bs. In other words, it'll run fine on any hardware that is capable of pushing the extra load (and a Mali-T604 should have no problem with that seeing as it seems to be better then Tegra 3 by a significant bit).
In any case, if someone could get a hold of Fruit Ninja THD Free, that would be a fine test to see if Tegra games can even be played.

There's pages of people using Tegra Effects on non-tegra devices for DEAD TRIGGER, so if anything, it's possible maybe for a few games.
There are plenty of people in the Themes & Apps forum, mentioning that they've got various games working in the N10 gaming thread, so some of them do work, it's just getting hold of the ones you own legitimately that's the difficult part.
I tried modding my build.prop but my market died and failed to connect to the server until I restored it. A reboot at that stage would likely cause you to bootloop so I didn't try rebooting.

That was because it used standard GPU API for the advanced effects, but just turned it on for Tegra only devices... the game itself euns even on non-Tegra devices... any game with Tegra specific API calls will not work... some may start up, but may FC when they reach a point when such a call is made... but most apps written specifically for Tegra check the GPU and don't continue...
