Not sure if this is the right forum but here goes.
I'm looking to start up my own ROM but my computer is in need of repair, so if anyone would like to start up something I have plenty of ideas and some are different from the normal roms we have out.
PM me and we can go from there and as soon as my computer is up and running ill be contributing more than ideas.
Thanks.

Im interested in learning how to create my own builds using all the necessary tools. I know it wont be easy and will take a lot of time but you have to start sometime! So I was wondering where I can start and if anyone can point me in the right direction. (I know it will take a good knowledge in Linux code and programming.)

Maybe you can get something useful from hd2 android dev. channel.

Im thinking about starting a new thread in development section. With every ROM KERNEL and MODEM. All always up to date. Im on xda everyday, so wouldnt be hard. I will update everyday when I get home from work. And try to make it well organized. Does anyone support this? Or should I not?

I wish you would do this in the Wiki instead. And by doing that you could also get help because anyone could update the wiki. I tried but it takes alot of effort and time is limited.

Yes, the "WIKI" right below the xdadevelopers logo in the upper left hand corner of this webpage. It's there I promise. Check it out it is pretty cool.
I too would like what you suggest.
Yeah I would love to see an updated directory. Wiki is cool, too.
How can i port an existing rom?
That's a very broad question..what device was this originally from? what version/flavor of android is this? Etc.

Yeah Nicgraner is right. We need more info to help. Some phones port well to others with little difficulty. Others, not so much.
Google "dsixda rom kitchen"
What you learn may be helpful.

Or go to chef central on here and poke around. Also if this is you trying to get in to deving, read cyanogens post there too.

Well first thank you guys a lot for getting interested in helping me. i know a little bit in basics like rooting and flashing roms but i wanted to know more about how can i make my own rom or at least try to troubleshoot any cooked rom.
Get familiar with logcat, to begin with.
Get familiar with smali/baksmali, decompiling and recompiling Java apps, and Java code for Android in general.
It'll get you half way there.

Maybe you can start a thread for beta testing. I'm working on an open source touchscreen custom rom installer. Similar to a windows custom install. So u pick what u want installed
Perfect for rom themes and mods

Hey guys I'm getting a nexus 7 soon and been looking around for the best ROM, I would also like to be able to charge and have a flash drive plugged in at the same time. I heard team EOS has a ROM for it but I just dont know where to start, so I figured I would ask the xda community for some help.
Thanks guys

These 'best ROM' threads get closed/deleted pretty quick because no one can tell you which ROM is best for you and how you use your device. The only way to find out is to read up on any ROM your interested in using in the Dev forum and then install the one that fits your needs best. If it doesn't, repeat the process until you find one that does.
