The capacitive buttons at the bottom of my tab are messed up. It randomly started today. They only light up when I touch the screen and just flicker on then off. They are normal at the lockscreen. I have tried different launchers, rebooting, everything. I don't have any idea what's wrong.

Just a question, did water sip into your SGT accidentally? I supposed it is more of a hardware issue.
Nvm. Thanks anyway. Did a Titanium Backup and factory reset. Works fine now.

Hi,
My DZ is clearly defective. It first happened on CM7 and this is stock rom. Check it out for yourself. Whenever the keyboard it pulled out, the screen fades to black. Has anyone else had this problem? I'm posting this as I see a lot of screen problem threads and wondering if maybe this is a new one.

I beleive the cable has been damaged. Im talking about the one under ur screen, when you slowly slide out the keyboard
Sent from my Desire Z
Did you manage to find out why it's happening? It started to happen to me as well. It doesn't seem to be a software issue since I tried different ROMs (CM7, MIUI, G-Lite) and same thing happened. I did notice later on that if I tried to open the keyboard slowly, the screen would unlock and turn on just fine. If I slide the keyboard fast like I usually do, the phone unlocks, the soft buttons and the keyboard light up, but the screen stays black.

I had very similar behavior on mine and it was the ribbon cable, I can't really think of another thing that would cause that

Hy folks,
I noticed with great anticipation that there are now ROMs available (2.3/2.2) that support Screen calibration. I Tested everyone of them and they all have the same behavior.
My phone got a 7mm strip on the right site that isnt working when the isnt calibrated. After a calibration with a 2.1 stock ROM everything is fine (naturally).
When i calibrate the screen with one of that fancy new roms there is a strange behavior:
The strip i mentioned isnt working, BUT: if i start scrolling the menu in the middle of the Screen and move my finger to that dead strip while scrolling it works. If i stop the scrolling and try to use the known to be dead spot it isnt working.
So the spot that is dead when the screen isnt calibrated only works with that new roms when the touchscreen is "in use" and move i to that spot.
Anyone got a similar behavior?

Are you referring to the blank, undetectable spot between the menu and back button?
I dont know hoy you hold your Phone, but i dont hold mine like a Phone for me the Back and Menu Buttons are down and not to the right
Between Menu and black buttons it's not a touchscreen space. "Back" and "Menu" button is a hardware button, has another connector.
And yes, i most rom's Screen Calibration is just and not working apk. You can see in logcat error, if the calibration not work. I saw that in mine rom, so at weekend I will try to fix it.

That would be more than awesome!
After hanging up from a phone call the top left corner of my screen was really bright. There were two vertical lines down the screen and the screen was transparent and flickering. I could still see my home screen and the screen was functional. I restarted the phone and it was still acting up. Only after turning the phone off for a few mins did it stop. Has anyone else experienced this or have any ideas on what would cause it? I haven't had any issues with the phone, no drops or anything. Currently running aokp with matrix kernel.

I had this issue too. My phone just arrived today. In my case the problem occurred after power cycling the phone (trying to get the WiFi to connect.. grrrr) The boot process was fine but once I got to the launcher my screen was flickering like a strobe light. I tried to power off and back on and it still happened. I didn't give it several minutes like you did so I'm not sure if it would have gone away. Since I hadn't really configured the phone yet I simply did a factory reset and it was fine. Seems to be a software issue. I hope it doesn't happen again but if it does I'll see if just leaving it off for a while helps. I hope so because I don't want to have to factory reset all the time!

My capacitive buttons were working fine when I recieved my device three weeks ago, then the other day they decided just to stop all together. Not lighting up and not responding to touch input. The weird thing is they work when you touch them with the S-pen, they still don't light up but they work only with the S-pen.
I did a hard reset on the device still no luck I have tried everything, does anyone else have any suggestion before I send it back or has heard of the note 4 having issues with the capacitive buttons. To just stop functioning altogether, I know there are some sensitivity issues but haven't heard of them just not working.
If you have any suggestions I would appreciate your responses
Cheers

Solved it by going to settings, display, touch keys light and set it to always on then restart the phone. Mine worked, then i just restore the original 1.5 seconds. Hope this helps.
That problem better not persist again, or else, "Houston, we have a problem."
I've seen a pattern where users are reporting, displays, buttons, and hardware not responding. Samsung better get act their together before next big thing arrives.

I am having the exact same issue...however your fix has not helped me. Buttons were working.... suddenly stopped recognizing finger touches, pen works fine on the buttons however.
Ok...got a fix for that that worked for me...I had to enable and then disable ultra power mode. My buttons are working again after device was back in normal mode.... hopefully nobody else encounters this problem...but if you do...try ultra power saving mode.
Hi guys, I have experienced a number of screen relates issues on my D800 since the Lollipop upgrade. I am pure stock, took the upgrade OTA from ATT.
1. Knock on stopped working. Knock off works OK. I tried all of the suggestions online, update touch firmware, etc. but still no help. This is no big deal since I can use the back button to wake up the phone.
2. I noticed scrolling was unresponsive in Chrome but ignored it because I thought it might be me.
3. I was out and on the phone and I noticed I could not hear her well all of a sudden and then the call got disconnected. I tried to put my PIN in to unlock the phone but that area of the screen was totally unresponsive to touch. I could enter the numbers in the second row of the grid but there is a 1 in my pin and that would not register. I restarted a bunch of times which I had to do only with buttons because I could not click 'OK' on the screen to confirm the restart. I got a screen on the phone saying my screen was unresponsive and this is how to answer calls only with the buttons etc.
I got home and used by OTG mouse connection to enter my pin and navigate the phone. I did a factory reset which I had never done before. The responsiveness seems better now. There seems to be one section of the screen that is unresponsive, right near the middle. I can't click on any of the icons in the second row from the bottom. I can get to the notification shade which I don't think I could do before.
I am attaching an image of a memo where I just ran my finger up and down the screen without lifting it. You can see the dead area.
Has anyone had this problem or knows of any solution? Thanks very much.

I just RMA'd it. It probably is the same problem you had but I am pretty sure I am still under warranty so I just sent it in.
