Why does my notification light blinks - Xoom General

How do I find out why my notification light blinks. I know its not my text messages I have all ready read them. Could it be the battery I'm at 27%

I had this happen to me once for no apparent reason. No notifications and battery was fine. Had to reboot to clear it.

yeah this has been happening to me more and more often. I even went to settings to disable the LED and then renable, but the option was gone. Like stated before a simple reboot fixes it, but what pain.

I had this and it was driving me nuts trying to get it to stop blinking. after a while i got an email which made the led blink, then when i read the email it stopped. so maybe instead of rebooting, try sending your self an email

Help me stop the blinking LED

Ok, I really love my mogul. Had it for about a month now, everything runs great except if I see that f***ng blinking light one more time, I might actually lose my mind. My friends think I'm crazy for letting it bother me, but I ask how can it NOT bother you? Anyway, I've tried all of the below things and had mixed results. If anyone has any other suggestions, please let me know.
LED killer 2.0. This seemed to work ok for awhile. It runs too inconsistently for me though. Some days it's good for most of the day, some times when my phone comes out of sleep the phone taunts me with its green light.
LED 1, me 0
LED killer 3.0. This did really well actually. 2 big problems though. One is that is seemed to suck the ever-loving life out of my battery. Two is that I still get the green light of death when I get e-mails, txt messages, vm's,...etc. I know some people want to retain that functionality but not me. I even went into the notification section on the phone and UN-checked the box for blinking light notification for the above mentioned events. I guess that box doesn't do anything.
LED 2, me 0
PPC 6800 hacks (triangle powers software package). Oh my god, the light is off! This is amazing! All my dreams have finally been realized, life is beautiful....oh wait, how come my phone didn't vibrate when my buddy just called me? WTF? How is vibrate mode tied to the F-in blinking LED??? As my phone stays in vibrate mode pretty much all day long, this was a quick un-install and back to the forums....
LED 3, me 0
Hermled. I just found this one today. The only issue seemed to be that you had to select "OK" on a prompt when the phone was reset (soft). I can live with that. Too bad when I got my first new e-mail, that apparently let the LED overpower this oh so weak application and it's blinking its little heart out right now.
LED 4, me 0 and questioning my technical ability.
I also tried to sharpie over the LED itself but you can still see it flash. Also, the sharpie marker wore off.
Sorry for the long post, but as mentioned above, I will be forever grateful to anyone that can help me defeat the evil blinking green monster. I'm seriously about ready to take the phone apart and smash the LED to pieces. Although, I bet it would still after I did that as it appears to be indestructible
have you tried LED killer 3.1? That is what I use.
Yeah, it's what I'm using right now. Do you have crappy battery life with it though? My battery life is pretty bad with it on. Also, it doesn't kill the e-mail, txt notifications. I'm looking for complete destruction of the LED.
Thanks for your reply though.
nope don't have battery drain with it. Installed to device and no problems. Do you have under sounds and notifications, the check boxes for email, text etc flash light unchecked? That solved that problem for me.
Ever thought about taking an exacto to it?
Just a thought...
All this talk about the annoying blinking LED is actually making me annoyed with my blinking LED...I wasn't bother by it before, but I am now...dammit!

Really?? I have that un-checked. In fact, there's no event that has "flash light" checked. I had the same behavior with the old rom as well as the new one. I was hoping it was a bug that they would've fixed.

There's a registry hack that turns the LED off for everything but charge status but you lose vibration. It was worth it to me, blinking lights drive me bat**** and I am also not the type to mutilate a $550 phone with sharpies and knives. Do a search on the forums for Alled mgr I believe. If nothing else: Registry, LED. You'll find it.
I also removed all LED Killer iterations and went with the reg tweak. Sanity restored
HKLM\Drivers\BuiltIn\AllLEDMgr
Change Index from 1 to 0
i did the registry edit and it didnt work. i used CERegEditor and even did a soft reset and it was blinking when it came back on. dammit.
lobo did you quit the reg editor before doing a soft reset? Registry editing is weird in that you have to quit the application for the effect to take place or you have to wait a period of time, it's just easier to quit the application.
thanks for the reg edit tip! say goodbye to that annoying led!
led killer 3.1 worked for me, and i was having many of the same problems you were. stupid led light blinking all the time was driving me batty. i couldn't deal with it. it reminded me of homer's alarm that went off every 10seconds, unless something was wrong...retarded.
I did the registry edit:
HKLM\Drivers\BuiltIn\AllLEDMgr
Change Index from 1 to 0and it worked fine on my Sprint Mogul 6800.
Could you have another program that is installed or
running that has notification alerts that are preventing
this from working...? (Wow that was a long sentence. )

I would imagine that a well applied drop of jet black nail polish would subdue the led. It's not fancy and not a registry hack but since nail polish is thick, it will likely not shine through.
Just a suggestion...
Applying nail polish would also render all other notification LEDs (missed call, new messages, etc) useless. LED Killer only kills the green flashing LED, and all other LED notifications will still work as usual.

Ah. I see. So LED Killer can specifically target certain notification flashes or just the flashing green? I was suggesting this as an alternative for the guy whom was thinking about taking a xacto knife to his LED...

LED Killer 3.1 can only target the green flashing service LED. If you wanted to modify the mortscripting, you could make it kill the orange flashing notification LEDs too, but that's about it.
Anyone konw of a program to turn the charge orange Led and button button backlights off? I have to say when working in the dark with the phone charging that damn orange charge led is blinding.
Thanks

The 1.76* build had a VERY annoying bug that made the LEDs stop working after a week or so... maybe you want to go back to that?
Nah.
Why do you want to get rid of the notifications?

I have the sprint hero. There is a setting under menu/settings/sound & display/notification flash. If you open it, you can turn it on/off for missed call, SMS/MMS, email, voicemail, reminders.
It is second to last on the sound & display list.
Hope that helps!

i have the latest modaco 3.0 rom, but that option does not exist, is it the same for everyone else, or its just me please.
The option is definitely there for me on MoDaCo 3.0. It is at the bottom of the "Display Settings" section, beneath "Screen Timeout".

if i press menu, settings, then sound and display, then as you have said, under screen timeout, there is an option notification flash, which is also written at the bottom, flash track ball for notifications, which i think is different, to the notification led, which is at the top, and anyway, if i untick everything, the flash continues, the green notificacation led continues, thanks

exactly that is how the menu works.
but back to your problem:
a) afaik the led is blinking green t signal you that your phone is connected to a network and the battery is not empty, not to inform you about a message?
b) the tiny little shortflashing led is really not that bad, is it?

My Hero (official 2.73.405.5 build from HTC) have NEVER ever blinked the LED to inform me about it being conected to the mobile network.
My G2 doesn't ever use the led next to the earpiece except for battery low, charging or charging complete
The trackball does flash white though when I get a message but that can be controlled from the menu posted above.
Fwiw I'm on mcr3.0 and rooted with original hboot that allows fast boot over usb, the very latest radio from the sticky and untouched recovery partition.

gotta watch this, i was sure i saw it flashing green without a message waiting... but it doesn't, you are right about this... otherwise it is used for battery status indication, this is what i saw too.

just out of curiosity: how did you install mcr3.0 without a patched recovery image?
I have a G2, so I fastbooted the phone to AmonRA recovery image, then ran update.zip from there. That way, if it ever needs service, it's just a quick flash of the latest T-Mobile ROM ([email protected]'s release so it doesn't modify HBoot and prevent fastboot) and back it goes.
Alternatively, if you can't fastboot, use a goldcard to get back to the original HTC RRU (with fastboot capable HBOOT), and then use Modaco ROM or whatever you want in update.zip format (using AmonRA in Fastboot).
Pre-empting questions here:
And yes, I know I could just flash a patched recovery, and I know that nandroid restore overwrites it, but it suited me at the time to do it this way.
I have the latest HTC rom, and the green led only blinks for gmail.
People should stress about having unofficial roms in the first place imo.

Notification light

So I was thinking and one of the issues that many reviews about the i9000 point out is the lack of a notification light that flashes whenever there are notifications. This is an issue that I've noticed before I bought the phone but now, after I've bought it, it bothers me more than I think it would. This got me thinking.
The i9000 has two soft keys on the bottom and both of them have a light beneath. Wouldn't it be possible to develop an application (maybe that ran in the background as a service) that would flash those lights whenever there is a notification? If this is too low level for an app, would it be possible to do by using a customized firmware?
Sorry if this has been answered before but I couldn't find anything about it.
search NoLED
That is a very good idea using the existing lights. I've been using NoLED and I've found that it crashes the device with some notifications. I've since uninstalled it just to verify. As I've stated in another tread, I feel it's important to have a status indicator of some sort just to know that your phone is actually on, or you're getting signal. Something standard of course on most devices. Yesterday my device crashed (I believe NoLED was the reason.) and I went around for almost an hour not even knowing the device was off. As I type this it's sitting on my desk now. Is it on or off? Pretty frustrating.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction Roy
Considering this actually uses the screen, I might give it a shot developing something using the soft-key lights instead. I'm thinking this might save some battery, is easier to fiddle with and I guess it'd just feel more natural than a random light on the screen.
I may work on something as well. The menu button light slowly "pulsing" to indicate the status that the device is still on, and the back button light slowly pulsing to indicate a message of any type. (Email, text, etc.) If there's a message the menu light will stop pulsing, that way it will save a bit of battery by not having them both pulsing. (We'll know it's on due to the message indicator.
AFAIK, some devs tried using the soft lights. There was some issue with getting it to work. Check out this thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=706426&highlight=notification
Oh I see someone had the same idea thanks for the link!
Great idea! Just curious about battery consumption. Any ideas?

Modify the charging light to allow text alerts?

Would be nice if the charging light wouldn't mess with the text messaging alerts. While it's charging I have to check the phone more often to make sure I didn't miss any texts as I don't always hear the audio alerts.
I have the K-9 mail client installed which alerts me in blue but doesn't work while charging.
Is there a ROM or a setting that I can change?
Darkk
I don't know if something like that is possible/exists... but that would be awesome!!! I hate turning on the screen (while it's charging) thinking i may have heard the phone from the other room! lol
I just wish my led worked.

lol what the epic needs is TWO led notification lights. One for charging, other for alerts.
If you guys use a program that allows you to use a different color, like Handcent SMS, it will flash your notifications and still use the blue for the charging. Mine does it.
I set my messages to flash RED or different colors for different contacts, and even while it's charging, it flashes to show me if I receive an alert.

Idk but I cant get blue or red to work either, this is probably a noobish question, but do you have to be rooted to use those options on 3rd party sms clients? Cause i've never gotten them to work for me.

No, you don't have to be rooted. You can set the color to anything you want using a color pallette now, or choose from presets. Its in the newer versions so make sure yours is updated.

Like I said it didn't work. I went into the *#0*# menu from the dialer and did the led test, and red, blue, and magenta are all working. But, handcent will not use the led binker. Idk if this could've done anything but on eclair under settings>sounds and display I had blink led turned off. And now on froyo there is no longer a setting to turn on/off blink led.

Well that's because there is only a blue and red led in our epics. You should be able to get magenta too (which = both red and blue on simultaneously) but that's it. Blue, red, and a bluish- red

That's pretty weird. I don't use handcent, but can you try something? Go to your dialer and type *#0*# (as zanderman said). It will bring up the lcd screen test. Go to the led test option and see if magenta works when you select it. If it does, then you know the problem may be app related. if it doesn't turn on, possibly hardware related (or something?)
Nothing comes up when I dial that probably because I do t have that apk for LCD test anymore cause I'm on bonsai
Could that be the reason I can't get magenta?

Red flashing while device is on...

So I've found a lot of threads about red flashing notification light while trying to boot up... however I am getting the red notification light rapidly flashing while my device is on and idle, and seams to be ok. As soon as I hit the power and wake it up, it stops flashing. Battery is at 78%, wifi and cell signal are registering. As far as I can tell, everything seems ok. I'm just wondering if anyone has had this happen before, or what might be causing it? My Nexus 4 is not rooted and is stock.

I don't think that's it. I only have a few apps on it atm, and none of them have a setting for notification light. Also it happens everytime it goes to sleep now and has been to sleep for awhile. When I wake it up, it stops, and there is no notifications in the notification shade. Really confused by this, heh.
