I know you loose your apps/music/photos/settings when you perform a hard reset. I want to swap my mostly stable Kingston 16GB card with the Samsung card everyone has claimed is stable, but I do not want to loose all my stuff.
I know the pre-NoDo has some sort of backup function. Can I use this to restore a phone after swapping cards? Will updating to NoDo, then removing the SD card cause it to revert to a pre-NoDo state?
I don't plan on upgrading to NoDo befre ATT releases the official update.
Pre-Nodo doesn't do a backup.

Yes, but that's during the update. He wants to back up his info, swap SD cards, then restore it all.
Update to nodo with current card
Swap cards and hard reset
Install backup from Zune
Update to nodo again
Will it work? I dunno. Try it and report back.

I am curious about this, too. I have the NoDo update on my Focus and would like to know if there is a way that I can restore my apps, pics, music, and data after installing that Samsung MicroSD card. I thought the new updates brought with them a backup capability but I guess that was only during the updates... Too bad. I miss that about Blackberry: great backup and restore functionality.
Anyway, I just got my card today so I will be going through a hard reset tonight. Really wish I knew if I had to transfer all of my Word and Excel files (via email?) to my computer.
Okay, up and running with the new memory card. Turned off phone, inserted card, 3 finger salute to hard reset. As expected everything was erased. I tried to sync with Zune hoping it would restore my music, pictures and apps and no luck. So I synced a bunch of music and pictures (10+ gb) and so far everything is running great. After I restarted the phone I noticed some apps reappearing. Not all of my apps but some. I think I read that apps synced through the Zune software will reinstall automatically. The rest I had to reinstall via the device. The software in settings>account>purchase history>apps shows everything that was installed so it wasn't THAT big of a deal. There should be a way to restore previously installed apps via the device or software though.
Before I did the hard reset I emailed myself my Word and Excel files as I couldn't find a way to back them up to SkyDrive. My OneNote files I found out can be synced to SkyDrive by going to Office>OneNote>all>refresh. This will sync your notes. Once you install the card, do the same thing and your notes will reappear. Nice.
The biggest things I couldn't restore were my IE bookmarks and my text messages. I only had a dozen or so bookmarks so I guess it isn't horrible but still a bit of a pain. Contacts will also need to be re-linked.
Anyway, so far this 16GB Samsung card is working fine. No slowdowns either. Hopefully I remain issue free.

I started this new thread as the previous one on the same topic did not give any satifactory answers to this problem
I also the Windows mobile 6 upgrade to my HTC 8525. I did a restore of my previous data with sprite software. All went very well until I tried to use the camera.
I got "Unable to start camera. Not enough storage is available to complete this operation."
I have plenty of space in storage. The camera just refuses to work.
Searching the forums, I have only found one thread who has gotten this error message. I followed all the possible permotations to fix this. I tried to do a hard and soft reset and cleared my memory (both storage and program). Uninstalled several programs. I have a 2GB micro SD card with over 500MB of free storage on the phone. The camera still refuses to work.
What should I do next?
try removing the sd card then soft reset the device and when it has completed restarting windows insert the sd card and it should ask if you want to store images on there instead of main storage.
same deal
I did try that. It did not prompt me for anything after I reinserted my SD card. Any other suggestions.
Thanks

ive had this same problem for a while now and have resorted to using coolcamera.. my guess is that it has something to do with the backup. the problem on my end dosent come up until i restore a backup from spbbackup... so note what programs you have, hard reset, and start fresh...
the camera will be working.
This is because not enough ram is available, simply close any apps running in the backround and try again.hopefully u can end programs with X-Button. some of the "cooked" roms have way too many services running at boot and it almost impossible to make enough ram available.
fixed problem
Ifigured out this was a problem with the sprite backup software. For some reason when you back up some older programs with sprite and then do a system restore after having changed from WM5 to WM6, you loose the camera function. I fixed the problem by reseting my device to original manufacturers settings and then reinstalling the programs one by one without using sprite backup software. It was very time consuming ad I had to retrieve my saved data files and contacts before resetting the device. But my camera works fine now!
it happened to me some days ago aftyer restoring backup
a clean solution:
look for the camera oem package of pandora, look for the recistry settings in the .rgu file, translate it to a regedit4 compatible .reg file, execute it, and problem solved. it is a problem registry related. hope this helps
I've been getting the SD card was unexpectedly removed error for my 8GB card. Can repeat this issue by moving pocket god (or several smaller apps) to the SD card. I can how ever copy 8GB worth of data from a PC onto it, so is this issue with android/my phone or is the SD card just acting weird like this? A 2GB I got with it works just fine, just it isn't large enough to suit my needs.
Things I've tried - erasing card within android, formating to fat32 within windows as well as defragging, and threatening it with magnets.
Phone is HTC Legend running "Gingerbread + CyanogenMod". Download the ROM from derhofbauer.at/android/
Later;
Now when I copy it through the phone usb it now dismounts, but I can copy it fine through an adapter I'm using. Seems this is phone related. Will try using my default firmware tomorrow when I get time. Any suggestions here are welcome and encouraged... Really like the way this ROM looks as well as functions
It may well be the ROM, I saw some stuff on gerrit about fixing it. Check with BlaY0's ROM (or similar) or CM 6.1, see what happens
Is there a way I could go about backing up my exact settings, contacts, apps etc. into my own custom rom so if it isn't the ROM I use I could quickly go back? Still a complete idiot with android so haven't figured out theming yet and like my current ROMs look
edit;
If it was my ROM wouldn't my 2 GB one be acting up as well? Cause it's working perfectly fine, I plan on trying to return the SD card tomorrow but got a feeling they won't accept it back...

It might not, 2GB card is most probably SD aka SD 1.x, 8GB is SDHC aka SD 2.0...It might be related...
To backup your settings and ROM I would recommend backing it all up with nandroid (CWM, FakeFlash) or if you want to, you can ue some apps like Titanium Backup, My backup etc...but backing-up/restoring settings/home screens might not work across ROMs, especially going from Stock-like to CM...Contact are saved via your Google account any synchronized afterwards anyway, so don't worry there ;-)
Hi all,
Since MS Myphone service is not working with WP7 for backing up the short messages, is there any way or a software to backup all contacts, SMS, and others. Most importantly SMS. How can I get a backup for SMS messages.??
Thanks a lot for any advice in advance..
Does anybody know where the sms are stored in file system? If we knew this maybe we could just backup those files via Touchxperience file explorer (Beta).
I posted in another thread about this, because I was also looking for a way to backup my messages. I didn't really find a "real" way. But what I found is, in my opinion, better than nothing. I like to keep my SMSs for sentimental reasons, so if you only want to be able to read them again in the future, I have a theory of how to do so. I took my SD card out of my HD2 and booted WP7, all of my contacts, messages, account info, was gone. I put the SD back in and it was all back to normal. So, I assume that if you back up your SD card with EASEUS partition manager (I think there is a tutorial on this in the dual booting android and wp7 thread) you can keep the backup on your computer and save it for later. I haven't actually tried this, but because nobody seems to be working on this, I thought it might be worth mentioning.

It's true.
Works fine for me. I use it to backup apps, however.
Good post. It never hurts to do a backup. But it doesn't help when you upgrade the build, all messages etc will be lost.
Edit; Looked at easeus partition manager and it seemed that the only way to copy a disk partition is to create a new partition on your hard disk, thus erasing the whole hard disk! How do you do it Domenukk?
Also I may be wrong about losing all data when upgrading eg to nodo. If this is possible to do a backup, after upgrading the ROM the backed up sdcard could be re-inserted, it might work! Dont know
Edit 2; found thread titled "[Q] Backing up or Imaging SD card partitions" which explains how to backup to hard disk using ease-us. Another poster suggests using a usb stick or external hard drive instead of precious internal one.
a while ago there were rumurs of Myphone for WP7
http://wmpoweruser.com/my-phone-for-windows-phone-7-pictured/
Has there been any updates?
Right now this is the only thing that is preventiong me from making my HD2 with WP7 my main phone.
you could use "copy and paste" to copy each sms message to Office, then put the file in Dropbox and retrieve on your laptop.
I have tried this and only the message gets copied, not the sender or date/time. you would have to add this for every text in Office
It is useful though for important stuff.
If you download apps via Zune to your phone, they are remembered when you change your ROM, though doesn't work for XApps.
Contacts- saved to sim or synched via windows live account.
Come on thebranded, dive in
hi, its going to be stored somewhere, i backup my programs data files, even after a reflash and upgrade i can use the backups to restore the data for the apps, works great for things like petrol usage, fitness programs etc
anyhow, the SMS files must be located somewhere on the card as well, why dont we get to gether, get a sms message and record the time stamp, turn off the phone and then search the phone looking for files edited at that time stamp

as i said, it doesnt backup SMS messages. If you were about to update the device it would do it, but we cant, and we probably shouldnt even if we could.
i wanted to know does anyone think this will work.i want to get a sd card but i dont want to lose all my stuff like text messages and some other stuff you cant backup.i was thinking if i update to 7392 and it creates a backup and then install an sd card then revert it back to get back all my backuped stuff.thanks in advance.

Tried it a while ago and it will not work. After you install the sd card you will not be able to restore cause your memory size has changed.(the sd card and os merges) you will receive an error.
I acquired an official developer account for free through the student option after I reinstalled my sd card after nodo.
sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
I can confirm this. Didn't work for me either.
Thanks. i guess i'll wait until theirs a way to back everything up and reinstall.

If just that there is an update out , yes there is. The notes say includes android security patches.
Patched TWRP installl-able version will up soon.
Is this the one that just showed up in my auto-update? (09/13/17 on 6:00PM Central time).
If so, it broke my phone, I can't use my microSD card anymore. I can see all the data, but the apps don't show up in my list, I can't update them from the google store, I can't run them except from google store IF it recognizes they are installed, and I can't transfer them to internal storage.
My time is wrong, and my phone keeps rebooting when I try to run my apps.

I uploaded V8.7 to the stock rom thread.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/r1-hd/development/modified-8-3-stock-rom-t3602672
I did not debloat or remove ads from 8.7
if you want the rom debloated you can run this command while in twrp with system set to mounted.
Code:
adb shell rm /system/priv-app/com.amazon.*/com.amazon.*.apk
adb shell rm /system/app/Adups*/*.apk

I got the same one about the same date, proceeded to install it (after backing up whatever I could). It installed problem-free (I had about 1.5 GB of my 16 GB free, for what it's worth). Almost a week later, the phone is functioning as well as before (no speedup/slowdown/flaky behaviour). The only new feature is the automatic installation of Google Play Protect that automatically scans Apps periodically for who-knows-what (didn't complain about any of my 103 Apps, so it's not super-aggressive).

I'm having many of the same issues, they seem to revolve around the microSD card. For some reason after the update my phone can't seem to access it or the app data stored there. Many of my apps were on my SD card so they're affected. I'm so annoyed I'm about to factory reset my phone to see if that helps. I've reported it to Blu but haven't heard anything.
Any suggestions on how to fix it w/o the factory reset? Thanks!
My guess is that the new update implemented more "security features." Since Google, in its not-so-infinite wisdom, considers SD cards to be inherently insecure, and Apps have become more and more difficult to store on SD cards with recent generations of Android, it is perhaps not so surprising that whatever limited possibility there was of installing Apps on the SD card before was removed with this update, causing the aforementioned problems. Especially for those who have the essentially useless 8 GB version of the R1 HD, which has only 3 GB or so available for Apps, this is not going to be good news.
I don't think a factory reset will help either (since it won't restore to the previous version of Android). The best that can be done is to save your important App data on the SD card by copying its contents onto a computer, then judiciously delete Apps that you don't need and reinstall them on the main memory and manually copy over the App data.
This is speculation, but it would be consistent with my own experiences on previous upgrades on earlier phones (the Blu Life One), where SD card usage for Apps became more and more problematic.
Or upgrade to a phone with more internal memory if you really can't find enough Apps to delete (I know that's not the point of this thread, but I think for the 8 GB R1 HD owners, that day will come sooner rather than later). Nowadays, 16 GB is the minimum for even light users, what with the the OS taking up the better part of 8 GB, and Apps like Whatsapp having no way to store their files, not even space-hogging media files, on the SD card.
Something similar happened to my phone with their spring update. Enough people had similar issues that Blu enabled people to roll it back. I wonder if the issues are related?
Also, I can' t update apps from the play store or download new ones.

I think you're right about the SD card. I did the reset and while it fixed most of my problems I still can't access the sd card so it's useless.
I have had my 32GB (HC Class 10) mSD card corrupted each time updating/clean install newer R1 HD rom - making it unreadable & unusable, getting the prompt to reformat it again for use.
I run my most recent V8.5 modified stock Rom rooted and fairly lean, so there's enough space on the R1 HD (16GB) rom to keep all the Apps on it, without moving them over. Only storing documents, PDF's, photos/images and MP4's on it - using it as my backup/travel phone, etc.
Doing my setup now to prep for updating to latest V8.7 rom, debloating it & planning to run Xposed modules on it again, taking out my mSD card first and will re-insert once the new Rom is done & settled down, let's see how it go ... rather take a few extra minutes to do this instead of moving the contents around or copying them over again, etc.
I did the same thing and only use the sd card for storage for audio books and music files. I updated the phone the other night from the first version of the ROM to 8.7 and the only annoying thing I have noticed so far is that it no longer responds to "ok google" when the screen is off and the phone is being charged. It used to respond before the update. I don't know if this was a Blu-specific change or if it affected all versions of Android. Xposed works fine on 8.7 and I'm glad that I bought the donate version so I was able to save and restore all of the many changes I made to settings in Xposed. It's such great software that the guy deserves to make some money for all his work.
Moving apps to the sd card on previous phones has always been fragile and ended up having issues so I don't even attempt it any more. I just decided to keep only the stuff I really need on the phone.
