First, this is in the wrong section. You should have posted in the questions&answers area.
Second, theres roms on 2.2 that are great. Look for roms made by wolfbreak, renderio2005, zdzhiu and trip. All have achieved excellent functioning roms.

your answer.....
well, you certainly come to the right place, click on this link from the hero android developement forum :

if you need further help, PM me
Why froyo?? Jump to Gingerbread .. Our Heroe's can run gingerbread thanks to the lovely Dev's and there's two of them ( infact 4 in total ) you can try out in the development section .. check them out
Just Replace Ur Recovery to RA 's one andthen Flash Ur Rom
I am using Elelinux one , quite good

Actually I prefer Froyo, but only because it's alot smoother. I dunno about benchmarks and stuff, but it does run more smooth than any of the Gingerbread roms I've tried.
Though if you can survive with a little bit of stuttering, go TastyGinger (by RaDuG) or Elelinux' Gingerbread. If you want Froyo, I strongly recommend Cyanogen 6.1.
Well, here is the complete guide.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=645253
You can try TastyFroyo or TastyGinger by RaduG. Links in dev forum
Ok so at the moment i have froydvillain which is ok but am looking to use cyanogen mod. I installed the file (update-cm-6.1.0-rc1-hero-signed.zip) on my htc hero and it worked perfect except the rom didnt have a market for buying apps? Anyone know why or how to get it?

hmm you'll probably need to flash a gapps package as well...search for it on the cyanogen site

Hey man wats up. You have to install xrecovery and root your phone. But if you need a video tutorial go to youtube and subscribe to bluechip. He has a ton of videos on this

I just wanted to flash to android 2.2. I dont want to root it. is it possible?
no.
u'll need root to install xRecovery,
then from the "X10 Android Development", choose a suitable rom for yourself and follow the instructions made by the developer
(Normally roms are installed using xRecovery)

No, there is no official 2.2 ROM for the X10 and there never will be.
So, to install 2.2 you'll need a custom ROM, cooked by the extremely clever and dedicated folk here at XDA. To get a 2.2 ROM on your phone, you need to install xRecovery. To install xRecovery you need to root your phone. If you want to backup your Apps (highly recommended), you need Titanium Backup, which requires root access. All the 2.2 ROMs available include root access.
If you're worried about rooting your phone, you probably need to stick to a stock SE 2.1 ROM.
There's no risk in rooting, you can always unroot without/and/or revert(ing) to your stock. but I'm guessing since you're running the 2.1 (current build) in america, you're not worried about stock. Don't fear the root!
Also, flashing roms with xreovery (also need busybox) is painless, fun and addictive; plus you can make complete backups of your current state, just incase you f-it up

I use CM 6.1.3 v 4.2 and it's the best of all Froyos on x10. But I want my Camera. it dose not work fully.
As long as bootloader is not open, Froyo is just a ROM on to pof 2.1.... so no 100% Froyo
Mugur
http://mugur-ionescu.ro/tag/xperia
but even not being "true" froyo, those custom ROMs still run better than 2.1 and you can use all froyo features like app 2 sd and adobe flash, it's worth a try and even fun to check different builds and see what each dev added.
So far i've tryed rendeiro's and wolfbreak's cyanogen 6.1.3 ROMs, i prefer the later because i like to tweak the UI myself, but both run great.

try Vignette, but the "deprecated version" and not the "new version". it's the best i've tested so far, only one that works at 8 megapixel.

Currently there's no 100% working 2.3 Rom. There's a 2.2 Rom though that is nearly fully working for the X8.

all we need is to be more patient dude...cuz it's not easy to build a custom rom...or if you wanna cook it by your self ....

sure you can, just read threads that Devs post here, then you can choose one of them. first step you have to upgrade to 2.1, root, make sure you have the latest baseband and kernel version. all the step by step tutorial you can find it here. thats all i've done
EDIT : you have donut 2.2.1 version?
i guess i have 2.1 version,sorry i got confused
Donut is the 1.6 version. If you have 2.1 it's Eclair And yes, you can install whichever ROM you wish. The most stable and fully-working would be miniCM 2.2.1, but you might as well flash some of 2.3 ROMs available - check them out, you don't loose anything. Just be sure to have baseband ending with "015", otherwise some features won't work.
is there some tutorials for this, cuz i dont know anthing...

First u need to root ur phone and have xrecovery install..xrecovery required in order flash other rom as well as backing up all ur data..search in x8 dir..u will find superoneclick (for root), and xrecovery installer and last is go to android development thread and choose which rom u want..there is 2.2,2.3.2, and 2.3.3 rom..name mini-cm,and many others by racht,jerpelea..search in our x8 dir..u will find everything trust me.
I'm currently using 2.2 MiniCM, and is working perfectly on my X8. Recommended.

It lags in games ten times more than 2.1,not recommend use 2.1 until custom kernels will be succefull loaded to our phones then there will be 2.3.3 with everything working even wi-fi tethering.

you have expert (as-mario) advise here so better stick to 2.1 until dev successfully have fully working kernel.
I'm currently using rachts CM7RC4 but what's the different between rachts and jerqelas?
I'm looking for the fastest ROM and I would like to have a high quadrant score
I'm currently lying around 650-750 with CPU at 710 Mhz
So which one is the fastest android for our X8 using 2.3.3 or is 2.2 faster?
well my has 44,2 FPS in neocore, and that is damn alot.

First, before you can root you need to find out if it's possible right now for you. Go to settings>about phone>software information> if it says 2.3.3 under android version you cannot root right now because with Ginger Bread update root is not possible until the devs find a new exploit.
Shiftdeck 1.2x rom with the latest AOSP x99 kernel. If you can root the phone, there is a simple couple clicks solution posted in the developer forum.

+1 first check if you can root. If you can, make sure you read, read, read, and read. Before you do anything. As far as Roms, well that's all up to preference. Do you want Sense? Do you want Miui? Might want to try a few and see what you like. Once you get comfortable flashing.
Thanks for the feedback i. I've been researching around rooting and lppking at roms. Looks, I have a temp root for now and once I get a full root I'm going to get the mikshift rom because of sense 3.0 features. Thanks again ! Going to have trouble rooting adb first time doing it >.<

I can't stand Sense myself, so Cyanogenmod is pretty much the only rom for me lol.
