ATT Moto Atrix (2G ) is now $99 at Amazon Wireless. [now $49.99 at Amazon Wireless]
Edit : [now $99.99 on Costco as well for new customer. Free activation, shipping & accessories]
So my question is Can i trust it to work perfectly out of the box ? and go buy online. I see from this forum that there is lot that can go wrong with it.
(I dont wanna go through the online return hassle in case there is a defective or problematic set. Its much easier to exchange it at the store).
I bought my atrix from AmazonWireless. They're great support-wise and price-wise.
Have you experienced any of the problems like lagging unlock screen, bad mic or voice quality, or poor touchscreen response or any other defects its known for ?
One of the units i tried at store had poor touchscreen response esp. while typing messages while the one my friend has works fine
Can't say I've experienced any of those oddities with mine. And while it is a bigger hassle to ship a defective unit back, Amazon will cover postage in both directions if something's wrong with the device.

And will they send you the difference? Bought mine there too, so another $30.00 USD would be a nice surprise.
To OP: Yeah, I'd buy from Amazon Wireless. They give you a good deal and get the phone to you right away. No problems with mine. Had the original build on there and it upgraded to .57 with no problems.

I bought it through Amazon wireless. I requested an exchange because I found the battery life to be a bit short, no questions asked overnight shipping. FedEx messed up a bit though and by the time i got the new phone the battery life had improved on the old one
Both phones didn't have any hardware malfunction. Usually people satisfied with their phones don't post online.

I just got an email confirming the refund. The OP said he was making an exception, but I haven't red their policies thoroughly. If you are within the 30 days you should get a refund.
I can confirm the refund. I just got $20 back as the price dropped from $149 to $129 for an upgrade on a family plan. He didn't say what the time window was (although it was a concern of his), but he did say I would be ineligible for any future refunds due to another price drop.

Thanks for the replies guys. Its good to see Amazon standing behind the product. If only ATT was little less anoying .They are just losing business by pulling out letstalk and wirefly. Hell i could have gotten free activation as well (i am greedy )
I emailed them and got $20 back Thanks!
So if I upgrade through Amazon Wireless my plan just carries over exactly as-is? I just don't want to order a phone online and then have my data package change from the $30 unlimited iPhone one.
Costco has it for 119, free activation.
Not sure how Amazon handles the plan differences, but make sure you don't loose the unlimited.

How did Costco handle that?
The best prices for the Atrix are online, but I'm skeptical of losing my unlimited data plan if I upgrade through them. If anyone can confirm that Costco allows you to keep your current data plan without "upgrading" to the DataPro 2gb package, I'll be ordering it today.

It will change, but AT&T will change it back if you call them after you activate the phone. If you've *ever* had unlimited in the past, they will honor that commitment.

I think this is the case. I had spoken with an AT&T rep yesterday because I would much rather get the Atrix from Amazon Wireless ($99 vs $199 from AT&T). He assured me that I would be able to keep my current $30 unlimited data plan. I also made sure to ask him specifically about transferring to a non-iPhone handset purchased from Amazon, after a minute on hold he came back and told me again I would keep the plan.
I had him notate my account just to be sure though....
-Doogs™
Now Costco is also selling it for $99.99 for new customer .
not sure about data plans but should be able to keep unlimited. Might as well call or chat before ordering to make sure.
It's worth noting that I just stopped into my local Walmart Supercenter a couple hours ago, ran by the cell phones, and they've dropped their price on the Atrix to $118. Not sure if that's a nationwide change or just my store, but it's worth looking into.
I also talked to the rep about keeping my unlimited plan, and he said it wouldn't be a problem, which clears up any skepticism I had about that if I bought the phone anywhere other than an AT&T retail store. I'm stoked. I'll be going back very soon to pick it up.
An att rep told me that they were planning on dropping amazon soon. Sounds quite plausible.

Wow can't believe Amazon dropped the price again for atrix in a week ..... Its now $49.99 at Amazon Wireless . Too bad for the folks who got $30 refund this week .. I guess its just the buyers remorse with every smartphone these days.

Much easier to throw this all in one spot than to try to compile all the various threads. New info as of 5/27/10!
-Preorders are no longer being taken at Radioshack due to inventory constraints. IE: demand was starting to exceed quantity
-The occasional store (non-mall stores) is opening at 6am; check your local area to find out which are opening early and at what times.
-Activation will most likely not be a simple in-out process. Expect to be in the store roughly 30 minutes.
-Don't forget the phone requires a Data plan and a $10 Premium Data service in order to be activated! Sprint's Hotspot add-on is discounted to $29.99 as well.
-Most stores should have the device in-store in advance of the release date, so our worries about stock are allieved. Even if a store is out of stock, we will most likely not be able to call another store and have a phone placed on hold due to demand, BUT it may be able to be Direct2U'd, which is a method of ordering.
-Accessories at launch will be limited to chargers (generic and iGo), screen protectors, and some locations will have Zagg's Screen Protector (not full body). Evo-specific accessories will be available throughout the month of June.
-Pre-order customers will be offered 15% off accessories from 6am to whenever the store would normally open (usually 9am), and everyone else will be offered 10% from 9am through normal business hours. This stacks with the $20 credit (though neither are available on the phone itself, even though the credit can be used on anything else in the store) and is only available through close-of-business June 4th.
-Radioshack Service Plans on the HTC Evo will be lowered from $124.99 to 99.99 through June 6th, and covers everything it always has, namely:
+Wear and Tear
+Light Corrosion
+Speaker Damage
+Screen Outages
+Dead Pixels
+Battery Replacement once per year (excellent value)
+In-Store Replacement of up to four same-ticket accessories
Just keep in mind this is a warranty, not insurance. As such, it does not cover lost, stolen, broken, or water damage claims.
Luckily, none of this is classified information, so I can share it freely with all of you Ask any question you feel necessary, and I'll keep this updated if anything changes~
I also wouldn't be surprised if Sprint has server issues as well (on launch day/morning), just to really slow things down. It will make it more,.... lets just say memorable.

No sir, I believe they took your 50 dollars as a deposit on the phone and in return gave you a 50 dollar gift card. They also gave you a 20 dollar bonus towards any accessory of your choosing, but the gift card was actually the money you put towards the deposit.

The $50 gift card is for the preorder itself. Instead of keeping your money like GameSTOP, for example, we give you a gift card so that we still have a guarantee you'll come back. Same principle, different execution. The $50 you can use toward the phone, while the $20 can only be used on accessories.

The insurance does have its place, that doesn't mean it's a bad idea. If you have a history of having phones go bad, it's a cheaper alternative. If you're worried about it being stolen or lost, or dropping it in water.... honestly you should probably get a different phone XD But really, insurance is good for those things, provided you don't mind paying $168 over the course of your plan, plus the $100 deductible.
The downside to the RS plan is that it's a send-off to repair (except for the accessory and battery replacement), so if you don't have a back-up phone, it might not be the best for you since we don't use loaners. So there you go, a direct comparison. Both are good, in different circumstances. I've seen the warranty do wonders for lots of customers, and I've seen it be worthless.
I just called the RS I pre-ordered at and was told:
1. They have stopped taking pre-orders since the close of business day yesterday (May 27th). He also said that most stores were limited to 20 pre-orders.
2. They are opening at 6:00AM sharp (this is a full store, not a kiosk) and stock may be limited to 2-4 phones more than pre-ordered!
3. He was not sure about the $10 or $15 discount for accessories (DUBious, who is a Houston, TX Radio Shack employee, has reported an additional 10% off accessories for people arriving between 6-9AM).
I noticed that the tone of the employee I talked to was much more serious today than my previous calls (yes, I bug them a lot! ). Maybe the scope of how big this is going to be is starting to dawn on some of them now that news is coming down from corporate?
I've been following the Galaxy S and Vibrant releases for a while and love the Vibrant. I however have a problem concerning plans. Since I will only be using its Internet capabilities where I have Wi-Fi (college, home, work), I have no need or desire for a data plan. T-Mobile REQUIRES new devices are sold with data plans so my question is.
1.Would getting a Vibrant from Ebay (for ~$500) and using my old SIM be the best option?
2. Can I just walk into a Tmobile store and tell them I want to purchase a RETAIL ($500) Vibrant with no contract or SIM and get one that way (or are they going to add a data plan and ask me for my Tmobile line credentials to do so)?
3. Is getting a Vibrant on contract for $200 + data plan and then cancelling the contract after the 15th day the cheapest option?
I suppose I would prefer to buy it from Tmobile, even at retail price since I get the manufacturer insurance of 1 year (have needed it before) free though if not possible, Ebay is an option too. I'm just looking at getting it as cheap as possible without having to do a 2-year data plan contract.
Thx.
I bought it at T-mobile off contract, however i made some other account changes while i was there so not sure if they require anything account wise when buying off contract.
I see. What kind of changes did you make? Adding a data plan or something else?
Do you think I can walk into a store, and buy a Vibrant for $500 WITHOUT providing any account information so that they cannot associate my account with the phone?
I'd like to keep my contract AS IS currently, and if possible not renew it (it just passed the 2 years mark so I can technically get a discounted phone if I renew it but I do not like T-Mobile's new contracts. I have unlimited texting on my line through a Family plan)
you might try asking this over in the the Tmobile vibrant forum
i believe you can cancel the data plan after or during the first month but i'm not the expert
costco WAS selling Vibrants off-contract (even more plans) for $229. not sure if its still ongoing.
Either costco or t-mobile. At costco they have to tie it it to a new phone line, which you can cancel at any time since you aren't under contact, pretty sure there is no fee.
I opted to but at tmo, and have the price split up over 20 payments interest free. I already had an existing android plan though.

Even More plans are contract plans. Are you talking about Even More Plus plans?
Go by a T-Mobile store and ask or call their customer service. You'll get a much better answer straight from the horse's mouth than you will from here.
I've heard about people trying to get a discounted phone with a new contract or making changes to their plan so they qualify and then immediately change things around in a manner that would disqualify them from the discount after they got it and then T-Mobile hit them with the remaining amount for the full price of the phone in their next bill. I guess it's their way of saying "cheaters never prosper".
If I buy it from Tmobile with ANY sort of contract...Even more Plus or Even More, they WILL add a data plan to it. There is also activation fees for a new line so not only will I have to pay the $500 for an even more plus plan, but I would have to CANCEL the line...in that case I may as well get it off of Ebay and save myself the hassle of all that.
The T-Mo forums are really helpful with everything other than development. Try there or stop at an official T-Mo store. The third party official partner places get paid to sell contracts. I've had some bad experiences on eBay and had to go to resolution with the seller twice on pre-smartphone phones, so beware.
What kind of bad experiences exactly?
If I were you and looking for a SGS I'd buy the full model that has all the extras... or possibly even the version with a slide out keyboard and ffc. The SGS Pro i believe it is.

Nope. A memo was sent out and they raised the price Tuesday morning to $479. Think the $250 was a pricing error.
The best deal is with Bing cashback! $325
Go to bing.com
search for tmobile (you should see gold dollar sign w 35% off)
click on the link to tmobile site then do your shopping
I got my phone for $325 and on top of that, 35% off activation and the $59 plan.
so my total saving was $208
But bing is ending its cashback program at the end of july so better hurry!
I don't see the gold $ when I search t-mobile nor when I do my shopping after clicking through bing do I get the discount.
Is there supposd to be some code you put? Is it possible for you to just post a link?
too bad Bing cashback is gone at the end of the month.

I totally agree! I recently switched our 5 phones over from AT&t and we went with Even More Plus because it's cheaper in the long run and no contract. However, we had to pay full price for the phones. Two of them were basic flip phones, but three of them were Samsung Vibrants at $500 apiece. We bought them at a T-Mobile corporate store and the most they did for us was waive the activation fee (which I found out would have been done anyway as a AAA member) and give us one free car charger when we bought the other two. We shelled out $1500 for the three Vibrants and we could have paid $750 at Costco!!!!! We're still in our 14 day return period, obviously, so if this is all true I'm going to call T-Mobile and see what can be done.

If I'm not eligible for an upgrade - any way I can score one of these deals? Or - even better - without extending my contract?
Amazon Wireless is now down to $129.99 but they are backordered. I have a feeling they lowered the price in order to still maintain the pace of orders until stock comes back in. Kind of sucks because I wanted to try it in Tucson next week but oh well, I'll have it when I get back.
Paid $43 for mine
Was the only guy at Radio Shack this morning (Only Dork sez the wife). When they opened another guy walked in right behind me. Turns out they only had 1 and I got it for 149, and then they offered me $106 for my iPhone 3G, which I took, so in the end $43 bucks for a phone that beats the pants off my old 3G for performance...
I admit I don't know if $106 for a so-so condition 3G is good or not, but if I consider I don't have to try and sell it, etc... and it would have sat in my drawer where it would be forgotten. All in all a good deal to me,
just got mine for $99, confusing the sales rep
He ran the phone number, premier came up and it said the price was $100 for the phone or $400 for the dock and phone and I took the phone for $100 because I hadn't yet seen the tethering/hotspot fix info that came out earlier today.
The store said that the dock required the tethering deal which requiring giving up the unlimited data. My understanding is that is half correct: you don't need the tethering plan to have the dock but you need hotspot on the phone to make it work. I further understand that it is true that the tethering plan is not avaialble at any price with unlimited;
Has anyone found it yet at Costco who generally sweetens the deals very well with chargers and cases, and often discounts.

I can only chock it up as a premier flaw. Got two for $168 shipped, no contract extension. I still have yet to be charged for them, and somehow they removed my car dock on the order, so I think they really messed my order up. Anyhow, I'm way happy with this phone. This is how android is meant to be.
Is ebay the only current way to buy a xoom without having to sign a contract and cancel it?
I got mine at Best Buy and I bought it without any contract at all. I had nothing to cancel, still paid the $799.00 plus tax.
They said that they got an email from Verizon authorizing them to sell it without any contract.
800$ at best buy (with wifi unlocked) as previously mentioned.
If you are interested in still having 3g without the contract, you will have to take it into Verizon after your purchase (you may be able to just do this at Best Buy) to activate your device on their network. You can't activate it right off the device like the iPad.
Here is the plan you are looking at (without signing a contract)
20$=1gig/mo 35$=3gig/mo 50$=5 gigs/mo or 80$=10 gigs/mo
The plan you'll be choosing is called month to month, and although you will not sign a contract, they will still run a credit check, so if you have bad credit, you will need to pay a security deposit. If you don't, you will not pay anything at the time of activation because it's not a prepayed plan (Verizon only has prepaid plans available for smart phones). You will pay your bill at the end of the month, and if you go over your allotted data, you will be charged 10$/gig (I'm pretty sure about that one, but you might want to ask). Also, you're first bill will come with surcharges and activation fees that will equal up to 65$ plus the price of the plan you choose.
Canceling your month to month plan will not charge anything, however getting it reassigned will cost an additional 15$
i got mine at vzw and motorola without having to sign a contract
good to know about best buy. Thanks!
I got mine @ Costco with no contract (90 days to return with no restocking charge!)

You can buy direct from Moto and most likely avoid taxes, and get a free case and free 2 day shipping.

False, they do tax everyone.
Free case offer has ended on the Motorola site.
What u mean wifi unlocked? Does it mean that if I buy the tablet from moto site it comes with locked wifi?

Oops. Stand corrected on both counts. Can you get it anywhere tax free? Amazon?
If I'm not mistaken Motorola has to charge state tax everywhere they have a physical shop. Since there's nothing like a "motorola store" maybe it's linked to Verizon? And they seem to be present in all states I had to pay MD state tax b/c I couldn't find the motorola shop directly on amazon or else I'd done that!
Wife wants me to wait for the wifi only version, at least there is one rational person in the family. Hopefully it will be out soon.

Don't try getting the Costco 90 day returnable Xoom without the month to month contract. They apparently are still on the policy requiring you to sign up (with credit check) before you can purchase through them.
I went around that whole thing including talking to the manager at Costco and the Regional Manager of the kiosk telling them they are the only ones following that old policy.

I was the first one to buy at my local Costco on launch day and was told the same thing. I kept forcing the Verizon kiosk guy to keep calling people until someone finally told him that it is no longer required.

EDIT: FAQ here - https://samsunggalaxypromotions.com/note4/Content/Faq.pdf
I guess it appears anyone who takes PRE-orders is good.
According to the above - are ALL US verizon wireless stores participating retailers?
I ask because I have a government account.. and I've "pre ordered" for 299 - I get a 100 dollar credit for upgrading and from above it sounds like all I have to do is walk into a verizon store and trade in a phone.
Does it have to be a verizon phone? Or would a sprint phone work too?
If it has to be verizon - what phones are you guys getting to trade in? I'll have to buy one somewhere.
What other stores are participating?

Looking on Verizon's website it looks as if they will accept any phone from any carrier. As far as going into any Verizon store and being able to trade it in for cash I am not sure, but imagine they all the corporate stores are capable of doing so.
What I am more interested in is what other retailers count. I have an old HTC Aria that I received free when Alltel merged with AT&T that is almost like new. If I go to Verizon's website to get an estimated value it is rated at $0 dollars trade in. However, if I trade it in to Amazon it is worth more than the $10 dollar minimum a phone needs to take advantage of the $200 dollar deal.

Interesting, I just went to verizons site and got 9 dollars as the trade in value. Sigh.
wow it's great one :good:
I don't see anywhere on the Samsung rebate website where it says you have to preorder a phone through a contract with carrier. I think Verizon may require that because they handle the rebate for you.
The Samsung website clearly says if you preorder from BestBuy, you cannot submit for the rebate yourself.
I am ordering from Amazon, full price, and I plan on submitting paperwork for this rebate. I turned in an old phone for $10 to Amazon. If you preorder from Amazon and have store credit you may be able to finance the full price phone at 0 interest for 6 months as well. The rebate is first come first serve and it is not as sweet as an instant rebate from Best Buy or a carrier. I don't know for sure it will work but after reading the small print, I don't see why it would not.
The main thing the rebate stipulates is that the phone has to be purchased as a preorder and the trade in have a minimum $10 value.
FYI-there is a lot of press out there that the phone will be immediately discounted in November to drive up sales.
But that press was generated before Verizon pre-orders sold out. Waiting always saves you money.
I cannot wait any longer for this phone. I am down to one working old android with a cracked digitizer.
I figure even if this phone isn't all that and the new Galaxy 6 comes out in April or a waterproof Note comes out in December, I can always recoup something by reselling this fairly new device.

wonder if you can fudge the trade in receipt to $10, if you are applying for the rebate directly (not through Verizon).
I dont' see how Samsung can check that. I think they can just verify that you traded in a phone and whether or not you preordered.
FAQ
FAQ
There is an FAQ now linked at the bottom of the Promotion website page (cant post a link). It is two pages long and does clarify some of the rules, but not all. It does tell you what a 'Participating Retailer" is. Basically any physical or online retailer taking Pre-orders.
It also goes into more details on the Best Buy rules. Such as a 2 year activation is required.

At this point I'm just going to order it off of the b2b verizon wireless site. Cost is 299. Then you get a 99 dollar credit on your bill, bringing it down to 200. I'm going to trade in a sprint galaxy nexus to amazon and hope that they honor the deal. If they do, that means a note 4 for free! Then Whatever my current note 3 sells for on ebay is just the icing on the cake!!
I currently have unlimited data. What would be the best method of keeping my ULD while upgrading and taking advantage of this promo? If I wanted to do it at Best Buy, I would have to avoid going in the store entirely. Amazon, then?
I went ahead and sold my Note 3 for $350. Not a bad deal :silly:
Im on a govenment account as well.
I called and they sent me a padded envelope to put the phone in.
I sent in a AT&T iPhone 4 and got $65
Im waiting for the note 4 to arrive so I can get the rest of the $200 from Samsung.

Yeah that's my predicament. I am buying it full price on Amazon. It's the cheapest I found for an off contract price.
If you have an Amazon Store Credit, you can defer the payment 12 months without interest, So maybe apply for one before purchasing. I am hoping to get the price reduced by receiving a check from Samsung from their preorder promotional rebate by preording and trading in an old phone. Look at the deadline dates for that promotion, if you want to participate.
You could also go to Verizon, and see if they will cut you a deal in exchange for giving up your unlimited data, like 6GB for your current monthly bill total. That is if you really don't use the unlimited data.
A Verizon rep, told me even though we are grandfathered in, Verizon at any time can renigg on the unlimited data because they could say that the ULD was for 3G not 4G data service. I think they have their ULD customers reduced down to 20% or less now.
The other way is to wait longer and buy one used off Swappa. But if you go for the upgrade, you lose your unlimted data. They closed the loophole where you could transfer upgrades on a new family plan to the old ULD customer.

Yes you can, I assumed that your sister phone is due for upgrade. When your sister received the phone, just registered with her number for 24 hrs. After that switch her number back to her old phone, then take the new phone and register under your number.

And you will be locked into a 2 year commitment and lose your udp. They closed that loophole this past spring.
OK forgive me if this has been answered CLEARLY but can somebody tell me how to pre order at full retail from Verizon and get the 200$ promo? Its so many conflicting statements here and I don't wanna fool with upgrade switching. Etc I just wanna get my 200 off and buy it from Verizon retail price.
