I got a txt message from rogers saying that an update is available for the 911 calling issue, and dis update also includes the SenseUI,
now how will dis effect on the rooted HTC Dream phones
shud I unroot the phone to get dis update
or will CyanogenMod give us a new update with SenseUI
yeah i got that txt msg too, said somethign about the internet going down too
The 911 issue is fixed in all 1.6 roms including cyanogenmod. If you want SenseUI then flash a rom that has that in it. This really doesn't change anything for rooted users except that we will get a credit on our bill.

yas we vl get a credit
by the way im getting my magic on monday so i vl have the update in dat
is da internet goes down for a month o wht
My worry is that Rogers will shut off internet access to our rooted Dreams untill we install this patch, regardless of whether we need it or not. Any word on whether this will screw over rooted phones?
the text I got on my magic said:
"In order to help ensure 911 calls are completed internet access will be temporarily disabled..... To minimize loss of internet service please complete your software update immediately. Upon completion, internet access will be re enabled within 24 hours."
Does that mean until I update I don't get internet. Its okay with the magic but My dream has a different MOD so I can't exactly update it :S does that mean I wont be be able to to use my data :S ever...
thats my worry with the txt i got, i called rogers and said i had 1.6 software already and he said the internet shouldnt be an issue then. we will see i guess..
says the "internet will be effective as of 01/24/2010 6:00am EST."
Here is wht Mary from rogers says abt the update
Hi There. Just wanted to jump in to clarify one point. Data will not be disabled until tomorrow - Sunday, January 24 - at 6am for those who have not updated their device with the 911 fix. With safety being the highest priority, this was a necessary step to ensure 911 calls will complete on all devices.
If you are currently having issues, I suggest you call Technical Support.

I think you have to wait till Monday to find out. Everybodies internet will be shut off tomorrow regardless of root or not. It will be off for 24 hours. Question is, will those of us who have rooted have internet access on Monday.

Fix would be to replace build number in prop file with a rogers style build number

AFAIK, there is only 1 Magic rom that would pass that test.

About Rogers service interruption
I think my biggest issue is with this "RogersMary" person on the AndroidForums, and the conflicting information I get from phoning tech support vs. her (is she an official support person? She inferrs she is by her ID and the tone of her posts but I wonder...).
Here is my "911 Saga" w/ Rogers:
* get a series of French and english SMS from Rogers: first to diable GPS to make sure 911 works, then that an update is available at rogers.com that is mandatory--it says internet would be shut off for up to 24 hours starting Sunday at 6AM (no time zone given--I assume Eastern but could be pacific based on the IP addresses my phone gets, or could be my local Mountain time). It says to "prevent FURTHER disruption" upgrade your phone BEFORE the outage starts.
* I go to rogers.com and get instructions. Requires WinXP or Vista. I don't have any windows computers at all here (I have a Mac and a Linux computer at my disposal). Supremely annoying!
* I google for answers, find RogersMary's posts on AndroidForums saying 2 things: If your PC doesn't meet support requirements phone, and in so many words that only those that don't upgrade their phone will lose their internet so stop fussing and update already.
* phone rogers tech support. I ask for instructions to upgrade my phone without a Windows PC...long pause...response (and I quote) "I have no idea". (strike 1 for RogersMary).
* I scour further. NOTHING on rogers.com, but in the forums I find images of this update that you simply load onto an SD Card and do a restore from there. I do this...and after a VERY VERY LONG reboot I get an "extreme phone makeover", and the phone info shows same system build number as in the instructions. Huzzah! No thanks to Rogers though.
* Sunday morning arrives. My battery died in the night (but long after I upgraded) so I plugged in, turned on my phone. NO DATA ACCESS EVEN WITH UPDATE USING OFFICIAL ROGERS BUILD.
* I phone tech support AGAIN. I told them I have no Windows PC but I did find the update file for my SD Card and upgraded that way but still lost network, and did my method of updating mean Rogers didn't register it? He thanked me for upgrading and said be patient--that ALL Rogers customers w/ Rogers Magic would have a disruption for UP TO 24 hours even with the upgrade in place (STRIKE 2 FOR ROGERSMARY!). That is the main reason for the data plan credit.
Anyways, this is what he explained: Rogers has to "scan the network" to query the phone for information in order to verify the mandatory upgrade. If your system build is OK (didn't clarify if it had to be an exact match or a certain number or higher) then your data plan will be re-enabled. This scan is not a routine thing they do--it is a scheduled event that will occur over the 24 hour period that started this morning. So, if you do the upgrade after this morning there is a chance during the scan and find your phone not upgraded to the proper build number and your data plan will NOT be reactivated automatically by tomorrow morning, at which time you have to get ahold of customer service yourself and have them re-activate your data plan manually. (Ignore RogersMary and remember the SMS said upgrade to prevent FURTHER disruption--not to avoid disruption entirely).
This guy said I had to be patient and to contact support again only after Monday at 6AM if you have no data/internet as it could take that long to sort out. The time it takes could vary depending on your region, if you are within signal range, if your phone is powered down and how old your SIM card is.
The last one was interesting: I have a SIM card that is on its third phone and is approaching 5 years old (when I go to the local Rogers store to upgrade they just move my SIM card--I've not been given replacement SIM cards). He has taken support calls related to very old SIM cards and replacing them has fixed issues in the past. Notably, I've had SMS messages sporadically arrive hours late, but no total loss of service--thought it was just net congestion. He said it could be the old SIM card becasue older SIM revisions issued before 3G/HSDPA, though they work on 3G, have sometimes inconsistent performance as they were not tested with the 3G network before being issued. If you have unreliable SMS, the scan they're doing today could be unreliable too (delayed, etc).
So, I come away with the following:
* Rogers didn't promise NO disruption, they said UP TO 24 hours, and MORE if you don't upgrade, so you can't REALLY be sure if you have issues until tomorrow morning at the latest. The disruption might have come and went before you woke up this morning, or it may persist through the day.
* If your phone is off or has no signal through out the day, Rogers may not be able to scan your phone, and the effect might be the same as not upgrading.
* Not sure if it is fact or an educated guess, but I suspect that this scan could be performed through the same mechanism as SMS (text messaging), though I doubt you'd actually SEE a text message yourself (it'd be a specially crafted packet of data). That way a "data" operation can be performed on phones without data/internet enabled. Perhaps if your SMS messages take awhile then this scan would too.
* If you are still using a SIM card that was issued before 3G/HSDPA was offered by Rogers it isn't a revision that has undergone testing on the upgraded network. It doesn't prevent you from getting 3G but it isn't guaranteed and has been the cause of various issues from SMS to unreliable web browsing and they might blame it on your internet not reactivating if it fails...but wait until tomorrow to complain...
IT WORKED!!
I'm back in!!!
I called(landline), did NOT pick a phone, went to general tech(no wait) said vaguely "I was having some intermittent data issues and some forums said to call up and request a network refresh", he (very eagerly) said sure! turned off the phone, he refreshed, and I'm back.
He proceeded while booting to ask about what specific issues but I kept it vague, text issues, on/off data (i did not get asked about the update!)
If my data goes out in an hour like it seemed in the start, then Rogers is sweeping users in which case, turn your phone off until the whole ordeal is done to avoid being marked again, or risk calling for another refresh,(I'm sure they will catch on soon, but those outsourced peeps LOVE the easy calls!)
I prefer the nice method, instead of the death threats to the managers
if they ask about the update say "I did and i had intermittent issues some forums said...
enjoy your data(and the free month!)
We get a free month?!?!?
I've searched. Only found one nobody post saying it wasn't capable hardware wise... Is that really true. And if so, why can't it handle it. Imo, it should be able too.... Really want wp7 hotspot device.....
Don't believe it... Will only be a matter of time until an app is available...
I agree.. it's all a matter of apps now. Apparently, the MANGO release will give developers more access to the 'guts' of the O/S, so we should start seeing apps with more functionality than before.

It tethers fine, you just need to use the built in MFG application to change the USB port mode to QC composite.
Instructions are here:
http://flopek.wordpress.com/2010/11/25/tethering-instructions-for-the-lg-quantum-on-att-usa/
That's insane I had no idea these can tether. I'm liking my Quantum more and more everyday. I'm a big accidental LG fan.
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA Premium App
I was able to install the modem without issue, and my computer sees it. However the connection is immediately refused. Apparently AT&T is blocking this in the U.S.A. At least in Minnesota.
It's kind of annoying way to do it though. Not too thrilled about entering a code and password everytime I would want to tether.
Really looking for something like Win Mo 6.5 equavalent to WiFi Router.
How about on PetroCanada or Speakout
I have the Quantum and PetroCanada UMB and I tried everything on that above link to get it to work but can't! The USB modem drivers installed correctly but I don't know the correct settings to get the phone to tether properly on the internet and I've tried so many combinations! Can somebody help me out? A WIFI Hotspot update sure would be good right now to avoid the whole problem altogether!!!
add a string in the advanced tab
Did you do the init string in the modem setup?
AT+CGDCONT=1,"IP","isp.cingular"
maybe a different isp string in Canada
I lost the ability to tether with Mango. My wifes phone is still on Nodo, and that phone can tether fine with the QC composite mode. Can other people on Mango still tether? I upgraded to Mango beta with the legit developer release, and then to Mango after it went RTM(never rolled phone back to nodo first).
Also on a side note, I still cannot connect to hidden wifi SIDs, and I see other people with the Quantum have the same problem. Seems like the OEM needs to enable this with Mango for it to work. Can anyone else use hidded wifi SIDs? My + icon is missing under advanced. Wondering if the route I took to Mango didn't update something.

Still no hidden SSID support with the LG Quantum.
As for Mango tethering, you're missing one more update after Mango RTM. Connect to Zune again, and check for updates. You should get an LG-specific update. That will update the USB tethering functionality in the phone for Mango.

The update is definately not available for all Quantum users.
I have AT&T and live in the United States and am not able to get the LG update.
Why everyone doesn't take the 5 minutes to go into User CP and set their carrier and country is beyond me. IMO, it should be a requirement before posting. More than half the posters in this thread haven't done it.

I have AT&T and live in the US as well. I got the LG update just fine.
You might have to go in the registry and make sure your carrier is set to ATT-US. If it's unbranded, or if that value is not filled in, then it won't work.

I actually dropped the service on my phone.
It's not that I didn't love Windows Phone 7 with Mango. Work bought me an iPhone 4S with a new number and they pay the monthly bill. So, I ported my personal number to Google Voice, so I can use it on my iPhone along with the number they provided. Free vs monthly bill. Free wins almost everytime.
I wouldn't think that service would be required to get an LG update, but since the carriers push the updates out, maybe it does. I guess I will know for sure when Apollo starts getting pushed out. Or it might be one of those things where it is going to take 30 days to push it out to everyone.
Nice job getting your info updated.
Okay I'm in the UK and I've got a VS995 which does not seem to be able to connect to HSPA+ or LTE (Can get 3g, makes calls, texts and internet) or at least all it's displaying in the status bar is 'H'. A problem I'm trying to get to the bottom of even though I've done my homework and on paper it definitely should all work fine. I'm not sure what to think but it might be a problem with the modem drivers with the Nougat ROM from Verizon, or something wrong with the antennae as I've tried all sorts of settings which work fine with all my other devices. I'm also aware Verizon has rolled out globally a long awaited update bringing Oreo to the phone.
I'm thinking that if I can update the phone it might resolve my issues but trying to do this via the phone itself is futile and all it tells me is I'm on the latest version, other people in the UK with this exact phone have been offered the Oreo update. Now I've downloaded the VZW utility application and LG Bridge along with LG usb drivers to my Win10 PC. But I still can't get a connection or it seems to connect and immediately disconnects after I tick a box concerning some legal documents. I did see in device mgr the LG usb drivers but after a reboot they seem to have disappeared!
So either the LG software is pance or I'm not doing things right. So here goes I'm here to ask you knowledgeable folk how do I get my hands on the Oreo update and what software/drivers should I install to update my phone from the PC? I was going to go down the route of a custom ROM but I'm going to give this official Oreo update a shot.
Hi,
Thank you for answering. Yes, I'm on vodafone (75% compatible) but I've also tried a Giffgaff sim (O2 Uk, 100% compatible) and though I'm getting LTE on all my other devices I'm only getting up to 'H' on the VS995.
I will certainly look into flashing Nougat Kdz with LGUP if you think it might sort out my issues with this phone. No idea how to do this yet but looks like there is plenty of help online. Thanks again
I have done it with this https://forum.xda-developers.com/v20/how-to/vs995-ota-20a-bin-direct-link-verizon-t3846320
I originally posted this post last week but I'm now wondering if there isn't anything actually wrong with my phone and maybe it's just locked by Verizon. So how do I tell if my phone is either
locked by Verizon
the radio is faulty or the files driving it are wrong
As I said I think it could be the former. The VS995 was only meant for the US market, Verizon in particular. But it worked fine in the UK under stock and subsequently AlphaOmega ROM. But when I flashed back to stock it stopped picking up a signal and though I've now had a major update to Oreo it's still not receiving a network. I've set the APNs of 2 different networks to no avail.
I've researched and done as much homework as I can but I can't seem to find the solution, so I'm starting this thread in the hope that someone can point me in the right direction. I've had an LS997 on Sprint since it launched but recently broke the screen a second time. After getting a couple bum screens off ebay, I decided to just purchase a new V20. Found one on ebay that was an LS997 unlocked. Figured why not, hopefully it is rootable and I can do some stuff with it. Got the phone, swapped my SIM, chatted with Sprint customer support, and got the phone to receive calls and texts. However, it wasn't getting LTE coverage like my old V20 and could not connect to the internet via mobile network (WiFi works fine).
The new phone is an LS997 (FCC ID: ZNFLS997) with software US99610p, build number NRD90M, Android security patch April 1, 2018. I am guessing that part of the trouble here could be that I am unable to activate fully with Sprint since I am not on a Sprint ROM (no option to update PRL, profile). Are there any working Sprint-based ROMs out there that I haven't stumbled upon?
I'm also wondering if the missing Sprint bands on the US996 firmware is giving me issue. SignalCheck Pro shows my old phone bouncing between bands 25 and 26 at my house, and obviously the US996 firmware doesn't have band 26. With the new phone being LS997 hardware, is there any way for me to gain access to those bands (by flashing a modem, etc)?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Rooted LS997 owner here. Yes, you have to be on a Sprint ROM to complete activation. Without completing that step, I don't think you can get everything to fully work on Sprint's network. The cross-flashed US996 firmware is useful for GSM networks around the world but not for Sprint or its MVNOs. Since Sprint does not provide firmware (KDZ) files, you'll have to go through the rooting process (check this guide) and then install a Sprint ROM (I recommend ClassicRom) at the end. If I remember correctly, there is a step during the rooting process where you flash some Sprint firmware that should take care of the modem part.

Seems you got lucky yourself on finding a rootable. I just got my new rootable ls997 last night. Have yet to run Dirty Santa to full root again. Very rare phone. I agree with C D here tho. Classic ROM is made specifically for ls997 and is the least buggy stock based custom ROM and is best for full activation. Also MK2000 BTTF Kernel is solid just in case.
I appreciate the responses! Looks like I'll be giving the Classic ROM a shot this week.
Good luck. And I second the recommendation for the mk2000 BTTF kernel (you can find it here).
One of the things this kernel does is get rid of LG's root checker called RCTD, which seems to log random things on rooted phones. You don't hear much about it any more because all the more recent ROMs have automatically gotten rid of it through their own kernel settings. I don't know a whole lot about RCTD itself, but if curious, there's some info here.
Also, the kernel allows you to change the KCAL screen color settings via a kernel manager like this one to help prevent any temporary screen retention (which you may already be familiar with). There are also some XDA threads where people posted different KCAL values that worked for them:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/v20/themes/post-kcal-values-t3865442
