Arc screenprotector removable? - Xperia Arc General

Is the screenprotector that came pre - installed with the Arc removable? It locks like it but i dont wana try to peel it of unless its necessary.
Has anyone tried tto remove it?
How does the screen feel without it?
Thx Rene

It is removable.. same as on x10.. but I wouldn't if I was you!.. the screen will feel slightly better but the benefit of having it far outweighs the benefit of removing IMHO.

Thanks for the quick reply
Thats good to hear, because what sense would a screen protector make if it wasn't removable in case it gets scratched.
Ok Ill leave it on as long as possible - the screen is more than responsible enough and feels great already.
Thx

It's a better protector than you'll ever get anywhere else - thicker and more robust.. protects the mineral glass from bumps and such too.. and it's applied in a controlled environment so you get a perfect finish.. which you're not likely to get with a home application!

screen protector always!!! but isnt the screen ment to be gorilla glass too? so should matter that much if someone removed it(dont know why they would tho)

Its just that in case I get a nasty scratche on my screen(-protector) I want to be able to replace the scratched foil with a new one. And the pre-installed one just seemed like its ,, unremovable" to me. But now that I know its removable - why aren't all manufacturers installing those? It just seems like an obvious thing couse I think most users install a protector after buying a new phone anyway.

One of the better reasons to go with Sony Ericsson?

so that means my brand new ARC came with a pre installed screen protector so i dont need to install another one which came in the box over it ?? or am i supposed to remove the pre installed one and then install the new one after the original one gets scratched !!! ???

It's just a spare.. you don't need to remove the preinstalled one.. in fact I'd try to wait as long as possible before removing, cos you'll never get one installed as good as the factory fitted one!

Is the screen scratched???

Hi guys!
I'm just about to buy a used x10 with a pretty scratched screen...
BUT I feel that the scratches might just be on the protective film, included on the x10. But as I have never actually seen an x10, I would like to have your guys opinion on whether its the protective film thats scratched, or the actual screen
The seller sent me some pics of it... Please give me your opinion
The film is definitely still on that phone but I think that's the least of your worries. It looks like the phone was treated like crap overall.
That phone took a ton of tumbles. I'd avoid it.
X10 is supposed to have a scratch resistant screen, lord knows mine should be scratch to hell by now. But the side damage is concerning as well the screen may be cracked from the look of the pic.
Don't by unless going to use to attempt rooting experiments.
the screen looks like it still has the original screen protector on. the seller might not know this. although the sides look scratched up
this device is totally fu*ck*d don't buy it
No buy no buy.
Seriously why buy it at that type of condition?

Well if the booty and the screen is only scratched and everything else is fine (I mean the phone is fully operational). Then depending on the price (if its really cheap) I recommend that you can buy it. Afterwards you can buy a case and go through a tutorial on how to change the case. That should fix everything.
BTW make sure it is really cheap as you have to buy the case too.
if you are seriously looking to get a X10, you should just save your money and get a brand NEW one.
who knows that the dude put the phone through.
Too right.. that thing looks like it's been battered to death using a heavy object!.. stay well clear.. unless it's like £5 or something!

I want to buy a Samsung Google Nexus S I9023 but it does not have a Gorilla Glass. If I use a screen guard, will that be enough protection and will it impair the touch experience?

Yes it will be enough as long as you don't throw it at a wall or drop it(although I still recommend the gel case or hard case in addition to screen protector) and I haven't noticed any hindering of elegance and I am using the Zagg screen protector. It may take a week but it will mold right in and you'll hardly notice it is there.

It was really a relief. Anyway am from India and will have to look for local equivalents but hearing that it would not impair the experience was a deal-saver Thanks really.
I use the phone without a screen protector for about 3 months now. I don't have a single scratch on it. I always take good care of it and never put it in a pocket with anything else (except maybe a handkerchief).

Same with me; no screen protector and I've had mine for about 4 months without any problems whatsoever. I don't even take any special precautions except to make sure there isn't any sand or anything on the screen before I wipe it.

Had the phone early January and have not used it with a screen protector and have yet to get a scratch on my screen. Don't worry too much about it

I didn't have it more than two days before the protector was put on it. This is, of course, only because I get a discount on accessories occasionally at the store I usually go to. So 25% off sounded pretty good without having to buy two accessories for the usual deal.

Screen Scratched Badly? Look at this.

If you have your screen scratch you might want to remove your shatter guard if you havent already. Its a stock fitted film on the front that is like a screen protector but it keeps the glass from flying around when you crack your screen. Sadly it scratches easy. Once you remove it, its almost like a brand new screen!

P.S.: I know this is posted in acessories its just that no one really looks there.
EDIT: THIS MAY ACTUALLY MAKE YOUR SCREEN VULNERABLE. I RECENTLY GAD MINE CRACK AFTER THIS AND IT WAS FROM LEANING LIGHTLY AGAINST A CHAIR! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.
Thanks for this! I have always been wondering if there was actually a screen protector preinstalled or not. Now this will settle my small arguments with my friends and family. :cyclops:

I bought a screen protector, and didn't manage to install it.
I was getting worried with the few scratches in the screen, but reading this relieved me a lot!
Thank you so much, JunDavis!
yeah , first i bought my XP , i put the screen protectors as well . after a few month the screen protector becomes thinner at the center of the screen and need to be change and i was thinking like just f**k it and go without a screen protector . and now the glass has many scratches and i feel like i want to change to a new glass and put the screen protector . after checking this thread now i noticed that there is one more layer on top of that glass and i was like thanks god and now i dont have to worry about changing screen protectors again . and sony did a good job about the screen protectors pre installed because it fits the screen too perfectly until it is hardly to notice them .

thank didn't no that though i would have to buy a new screen but nope just replace screen protector
I tried many times to remove the protector but couldn't :crying:

I removed it as soon as I got the phone back in 2011, I will likely do the same when my Xperia Z arrives, replacing my Galaxy S3 (You have no idea how bad CM10.1 performance is on that Exynos, and Touchwiz is horrible) I love Sony's latest UI, its so stock-like its amazing, yet it looks better than Stock!
I bet most of you will agree with this but Sony phones are underrated, Samsung are overrated...

That because Samsung does not share its kernels sources = hard on developers to develop ROMs or kernels
And because of that CM team is not going to develop a CM ROM for GS 4
Guys if i remove the factory shatter guard i will have more brightness on xplay screen????
Lol, wow
When I got my Xplay, I wondered why I didnt have any protectors in the package (or I lost it) like my sister's Neo had.
I was thinking about buying a screen protector but it seems that I dont need to ^..^ thank you.
Also, if Im not reading that post totaly wrong, it does appear that XPlays screen does become slightly brighter if you remove this stock protector.

Walking out Nude! Or not

Being that the phone is made out of aluminum you would think it won't break as easy as any plastic phone.
I'm considering going without a case due the fact that a case just takes away all the beauty of the phone.
Anybody else doing the same?

I did that with my old iphone 5. Terrible mistake. Tiny scratches on the side of the phone. Plus if you drop it it will make a nice ugly scuff.
But if your careful, go ahead, go naked.
But if I were you, i would get a poetic atmosphere case, looks really nice.
Too much risk for a beautiful phone.

I don't use cases. Never did and probably never will.
What's the point in having a beautiful phone if its always covered up?
I always go naked.
"Too much to risk for a beautiful phone" is the opposite of how I see things. To me it's too beautiful to put a cover on.

A lot of people buy phones then resell them to get the next big thing. You drop the phone, the resale value plummets.
You don't have to get a dam otter box and cover it up. Just a clear case would do, or any of those skin protectors.
But hey, if your super duper careful go case less. Just trying to save people from the drop of doom.
But nvm, I had to reread the op, you already made up your mind going case less. GL

Going caselsss is risky, especially with camera lens cover. Got minor scratches already in lens cover.
Didn't get accessories in my place still. Otherwise, would have put a case already.

Could care less about resale value, I bought it to use it and enjoy it, and in the case of the One (and One X), how they felt in my hand and how they looked had more to do with my decision to buy them as the hardware specs.
I've got a drawer full of old phones, I don't resell anything, though I might give one away or loan one out.
I drop it and break it, oh well, I'll get another one. I put a blemish on it, oh well, I live with it.
Scratches on the camera lens are no big deal either, it's a cell phone camera, it looks like crap to varying degrees even when it's un-scratched.

i take pride on taking care of my phones and keeping them always clean, i went nude to work today, and after a long shift at work, i come back home and i have one tiny scratch on the back of my phone, its very tiny not noticeable, but its still very stressful, will buy a case tomorrow asap!
My One X is in pretty good shape, no protection. I have a scratch on the glass that was clearly from a diamond ring. Other than that there is miniscule damage in one place on the metal strip around the screen.
The SIM tray looks atrocious, but protection wouldn't help with that since I use it; it appears to be made of some kind of soft cheese. A new one is less than a fiver.

Best case to use with these pretty phones is a pouch. That way u slide it in the pouch when in your pocket and not using it , and you take the phone out of the pouch so you and everyone around you admire it when use want use. :screwy:

Personally I always go bare. The One is so beautiful as well that I think a case is a double-crime.
I usually 'dedicate' a pocket to my phone and keep everything else (car keys, change etc) in others.

Black One issues

Hello all, I just wanted to share this with everyone. I'm loving my black one, it's absolutely perfect! At least, that's what I thought until 30 minutes ago. As you can see in the title I've been having some problems with my black one. I know there already is a thread "black one not suitable for daily use", or something similar, but a lot of posts in that thread are being treated as trolls and this is a bIt different (no dents or chipping in the corners like the others, but on the back itself)
First of all, it attracts fingerprints VERY easily. Though this is a known problem and I knew this before actually receiving it (and it isn't such a big issue for me), it is worth mentioning (again) for people who still can't decide between silver and black. For me personally, this issue is completely worth it as black is BEAUTIFUL.
Second, a bigger issue, the black is coming off. I've had it for two days (just two!!!) and I can see silver. These are just dots, and they look just like dust. At first I even thought it was dust, but that was until I tried to clean it (first with my shirt, that didn't help so then I grabbed a moist cloth, which didn't work either so I then made the already moist cloth a bit wetter. No difference! hell, I even tried soap that's how desperate I am ). I will attach a photo, but it isn't very good quality because I made it using my One and a dirty mirror. Everything I didn't circle is dust, so you can see how much it looks like dust.
Now you're probably wondering what the hell I did with it, and the answer is completely nothing abnormal. I kept it in the official case when it was going in my pocket or when I was outside, and it got out of the case in it's full glory when at home and at work during breaks. I didn't drop it, it was in my pocket with nothing else (well, just the case), and I have been extremely careful with it, I didn't even let others hold it for more than a minute. What I'm gonna do now is look if it really really really isn't just dust with some more cleaning, then I'll look if a permanent marker hides it and either way I'll buy a skin for it (not a case, I already have one, and my pouch is still on its way, but a skin like a screen protector but for the back too) any suggestions for a good one?
Anyway, this is a warning for anyone considering/owning the back wish me luck with hiding the silver!

Yea I read that too, but my concern is that it will be another color (slightly darker/lighter) and still be noticeable. Ah well, still better than silver dots on black but it still shouldn't happen IMO. I'm starting to think the case is the cause, because it now has 2 more of those dots after taking it out of the case again

Totally agree that it shouldn't happen, especially just taking it out of a case. I have decided not to have a case for the first time ever, if I get scratches then so be it, adds character to the phone

Wow! Ok I'll be honest at first I thought the issue is only happening on the speaker grill but seeing this. If anyone other than you posted some more issues like this then I am gonna be quite dissappointed on the anodization process of HTC now. Production issue is a good reason for having thin anodized layers but this thin is already way too bad.
I will still be giving HTC a benefit of the doubt here considering that you're the 1st one to post this. It could be a factory defect or there must be some specs of hard object in the case/pocket big enough to damage the back.
Do you have the double dip case? If so, the case's hard plastic inner section can scratch the phone when going on or coming off. Or, as the other user suggests, ensure you don't have dust ir sand particles in your case.
Currently interchangeably using HTC One, BBZ10 and Note 2
The double dip case is awful it gets sand and grit in it very easily. I have managed to scratch my silver version (couldn't wait for the black) on the front around the top of the speaker and several places on the back and side. I actually bought the case before I even had my phone that's how eager I was to protect it. Nothing makes your heart sink more than when you slide the case from your phone and you feel it grind on some grit. I now have it in an otterbox defender (this also has its own issues )
Sent from my HTC One using xda premium
Now I know for sure that the official case was the problem. I haven't put it on anymore and there are no more of those silver dots appearing. I really advise not to buy that case!

Now that is a massive fail if the official case is causing it to scratch, I would contact HTC and see about a replacement and get a refund on the case, totally unacceptable.

Reaaon i never considered the black one. Same thing happened on 3 iphone 5's i had. Its a limitation of the material/process imho. Htc Apple doesnt matter black anodized aluminum is coming of easy
