in-call Mic Gain/sensetivity in loud enviroments - Galaxy S I9000 General

Hello everybody... As per my post in supercue's thread, I found what I was mentioned in his thread. Lots of people are having big issues regarding really bad in-call quality when in any kind of loud environment... weather it be windy day, driving a loud car/truck etc. People having to repeat themselves, driving people to move their phone away from their ear due to extremely loud ear piercing sounds in their ear on the receiving end... The following is what i performed on my phone, and lo and behold it made a VERY big difference... ALL CREDIT must be given to the original poster for this.... his name is "Ilcello" here is the link to his original post... http://android.modaco.com/content/s...axy-s-i9000-mic-sensitivity-recording/#entry0
The purpose of this post, is to merely share what I personally used as my settings, and what worked for me.... I had to use a Hex calculator to convert many settings until I found something that worked well... here are the instructions.......
Go to your service menu by typing in *#*#197328640#*#* (only one 40 at the end, not two as he mentioned in his post)
[5] AUDIO
[1] HANDSET
[1] VOLUME
[6] I2S1 Rx Gain: Default to 0x38e8 ----->I changed mine to 0x1fff
[4] DST Speech TX Volume: Default to 98 ---->I changed mine to 88
[7] I2S1 TX Gain : Default???? ----->I changed mine to 0xbb8
I sure hope this helps as well as it did me...

The values you mention are the default for my sgs

I just found another thread where a poster mentioned the exact same thing... VERY strange... I don't know what to say for an explanation... The defaults that I indicated, were my defaults at the time when i changed my values... How is your in-call, call quality??? are u having issues?? I changed my values several months ago, and it made an extremely big difference.... I don't know how to explain it.. lol
Is your mic gain in-call really bad??

I think i made a mistake in my original post... I indicated about teh RX Gain... which doesn't make sence... Rx=recive Tx=Transmit....
What is your default for Tx Gain??? I would think that it is what I changed... and NOT the RX gain... My Tx gain is at 0xbb8
The more I'm looking at it, the more I believe that it is what I was tinkering with..... if yours is different, try what mine is set at... and let me know..cuz, I'm thinking It was in fact, what I had changed... not the Rx

My [4] was already at 88 so I made it 78, [6] already at 0x1fff so didn't change it (maybe meaning Receive so not of any importance) and lastly [7] which maybe is the important part was 0x2000 and I've made it 0xbb8 (hope I'm right when just typing in with the keyboard to imput the new value)
I'll let you know....
thanks!
EDIT: The only one that stays saved after reboot is the [7], [4] returns on 88 as an input....Maybe we'll have to edit the [2] which defines the levels...so when it sees maximum level 88 then in restores the value at 88....
Anyways....I'll test it and I'll let you know....
Still returns at 88 after reboot and restores all the levels....
I'll test the mic in the afternoon and I'll come back here...
Thanks again!

After long test "in-car" it's just that now I can shout and the other member to listen to me but again there is distortion on the other side
Can I try inputs in the middle? Default input was 8192 (converted from hex to dec), and yours is 2000, so shall I try 4000 for example?

Feature request
Hey wilsongis... if you're bored...
A popup menu for script items: Execute | Edit | Delete
or if there's nothing generic to use for editing, maybe just "view" ? It would be nice to be able to see a script before running it.
Peace,

Very interested in this thread.
These are my defaults:
[6] I2S1 Rx Gain: Default to 0x1fff
[4] DST Speech TX Volume: Default to 88
[7] I2S1 TX Gain : Default to 0x2000
Can you please tell what are those single parameters for in the phone usage??

I can't see why not... Keep in mind, I'm pretty certain that the Cell Site hardware would have a role in these settings as well... Meaning... the radios that the cell tower would also have their own Audio settings as well before it gets sent down the hard line...I mean really, these things really aren't much different than any other radio/repeater set up... in Duplex Mode...but still much the same....So... I 'would think' that you would have to tinker around with the Tx gain a little to get something that works for you... as I'm pretty sure one cell company would not have the exact same settings and standards for their sites as one another... Seen as how the speech volume and tx/rx volume don't like being changed... just play around with the Tx gain only... maybe convert a few setting with the Hex calculator first, and write down the Hex on paper or something so you can experiment with different ones on the fly...

I'm not exactly sure.... Rx (which stand for receive) Gain (meaning volume... or sometimes amplification) so... to me... that is probably a preset figure for how much volume is present before it gets amplified to the earleice... Maybe not...
Speech TX (TX means Transmit) meaning... well.. maybe the phone is able to distinguish between a voice... and all other sounds.... and then, how much to amplify just a voice and Transmit it... Maybe not...
TX Gain... well.. again... maybe this is a volume setting for transmited sounds (of all types) everything the mic picks up, it amplifies it to this setting... Maybe not...
These are just pure guesses based on a bit of radio communications experience..

Is the change valid right away or needs a reboot?
Also any hex to dec and vice versa converter online?
EDIT: Found one....
Thanks a lot for your info my friend! Hope supercurio will make his own magic from a different angle!

Howto boost sound volume

I have a MDA Vario. I would like to boost the sound volume. Is it possible to boost the volume in the windows register?
Thnx
I found some keys. The keys:
\\\registry\HKLM\Software\HTC\AUDIOGAIN(x)\
Speaker uplink volume
Headset uplink volume
Where (x) is nothing or 0, 1, 2
My speuker uplink volume was set at 26, I change that with 50, I think my speaker goes a bit harder, but I'm not sure..
Does anyone know if it really works, or has different techhnics?

edit which one ? AUDIOGAIN or AUDIOGAIN0/1/2 ???
Any tweak available ? I have just installed the MS Voice Command, but the voice come out from the wizard is too quiet, I cannot hear clearly even I set the volume to MAX, I believe there should be some reg key can make it louder, and also the mic gain level, THanks if someone knows and post here.

i've had problems with microphone in my wizard. basically, people complained, that they can't hear me very well. i also found these registry keys, did some tests and changed RECEIVE_UPLINK_VOLUME and EARPHONE_UPLINK_VOLUME values to CC. after that change, microphone sensitivity got better and didn't receive any more complaints.

to have MS Voice Command woman speak louder, edit these keys :
HKCU\ControlPanel\SoundCategories\VoiceCommand1\InitVol
and set it to 5
HKCU\ControlPanel\SoundCategories\VoiceCommand1\AttenuationCategory
and set it to 1
at least it worked for me (and for others from who I took this tweak)

same problem here, also I cannot get the following to work, (UPDATED) I can change the setting but using the DONE from the softkey, not the OK on the top.
HKCU\ControlPanel\SoundCategories\VoiceCommand1\InitVol
and set it to 5
On my 9100, it is already 5
HKCU\ControlPanel\SoundCategories\VoiceCommand1\AttenuationCategory
and set it to 1
changed it to 1 and softreset, cannot note any louder..... am I missing something ?

Microphone Volume / Sensitivity

My only major complaint about the Touch is that the mic volume / sensitivity seems way too high. If i am somewhere with any background noise, WHOEVER i am talking to *****es that they can not hear a word im saying. Does anyone else have this problem? Anyone know where in the reg i can change some values to lower the sensitivity of the mic? Thanks.
.eric
I got the same problem.
Audiopara.csv
You can search for the thread on the audiopara.csv file found in the windows dir. I have played with it a little and modified it to have a greater volume range on the upper and lower ends, but I'm not sure about modifying the mic sensitivity. Be careful, make a backup of the original file. I may post my final file when I get done testing.
DJ
I didn't exactly understand what it said about using the audiopara.csv file.
Do you need to change your rom? Or can it be used on an otherwise unmodified phone?
Audiopara.csv
I have modified the audiopara.csv file located in the \windows directory. There are 6 levels of volume and I have lowered the bottom two to be very quiet (for privacy) and the top one to be very loud for use in noisy environments. I have not modified the mic settings, but they are there too. You do not have to change your ROM, you can modify the file using Excel. Ultimately, if you save the file to a safe place on your hard drive, you can then make a copy, play with it, then copy it over the one on your phone, you can use trial and error and see what works. If you don't like what you did, you can take the original and copy it over the modified one on your phone. I am posting my 2low 1hi version. Good luck.
DJ
Amazing. Thanks a lot!
I'll give it a shot when I get home.
One last thing, if I feel like messing around with the settings, which are the values I want to change? I believe it's row 21 to 26 (phone headset), but I can't tell which column it is. J seems to be the only one with ascending values, in hex. Is that right?
For the other settings am I right to assume that handfree is the speaker on the back and earcuple is if you are wearing headphones?
Sorry for all the questions, I'm just quite curious as to how it works.
Audiopara.csv
Well, not exactly. I changed the earcuple settings. Those are the ones that affect the normal phone speaker (not headset, bt, or speakerphone speaker) I will try to test the other settings. I, however, have not had a problem with any other settings. Btw, I'm using dcd's 0.20 ROM which works quite well, only minor glitches. I'm guessing that the RevA/GPS ROM will have some bug fixes as well. Hopefully, we won't need to tweak so much with the new one.
So it's the earcuple settings that you need to play with?
Was is right about column J in hex? Is that what you're modifying? In decimal it goes from about 20000 to 60000 right?
Now for some off-topic: I don't really understand the big deal with RevA and GPS rom? What's that all about? Is RevA just faster EVDO? and GPS is the approximate cell tower thing for google maps MyLocation? Is that it?
EDIT: found the answers to these questions on another forum. RevA sounds sweet.

Beuh_jonny,
Oh, its a big deal. RevA is much faster and GPS will allow Nav programs to basically turn your phone into a Garmin/TomTom/Magellan device and allow LiveSearch to already know where you are to find businesses quick.
To stay on thread,
I am still playing with the audio file, but I'd love to know exactly what parameters do what! Someone from the HTC programming camp would know!
DJ
10A0
28D6
47CF
656E
8F47
E000
These are the values in column J and they appear to be the only values that change. The problem is I have no idea what these mean. How can I make the volume louder? I could just start putting in various letters and numbers but that would take me forever!
I am having the same issue. Unfortunately I can't pinpoint when the problem started. My girlfriend just told me that it has been going on for at least a month.
The problem is that the microphone seems to amplify all of the background sounds, like there is some sort of audio limiter/compressor that is way jacked up.
Too bad no one seems to have offered any ideas regarding this specific problem in this thread...
Thanks if you can help.

[Q] Is there a fix for WP7 Volume Loudness control on HD2

Hello,
Does anyone know if there or how to fix the DFT WP7 HD2 volume control. I have the phone on 1 or 2 and it is still very loud. Love the DFT work. Not complaining just wondering if it can be fixed.
Tks,
CM
Confirmed. The phone is very loud even on 1 volume level.
Same problem here. Seems there a few little bugs with SD cards, wifi and sound but over all its an excellent first ROM. I'm sure over time these bugs will be fixed.
seem t-moblie HD2's suffer from solid message blocks and message text missing too
confirmed. hope they will come out with some solution! but since it's the first build, i do expect some bug will appear.
Use your Reg editor to change the MaxdBAtten value data for 45 to 70 and then reboot your phone.

Many thanks everyone, can confirm that this works. Only thing it hasn't improved is how loud zune is when playing music through phone speaker - anyone know the reg entry for this?
question: does it fix the sound quality???? i mean, being loud is one thing, but the sound sounds so horrible i cant stand it over 5 in volume... i compared and Android doesnt suffer this, so i doubt its a blown speaker...

this is what i mean, the reg edit has improved sound balance overall, but playing zune though phone speaker over about 14ish on volume setting sounds distorted. i think its still too loud even though system volume is now better.

Will a higher value be less loud, for exemple will 80 be softer then 70. My volume is still loud at 70. Changing the value from 45 to 70 didn't make a noticeble difference.

Alarm sound is too loud !!!!

Does anyone else noticed this ?
The Alarm sound is too loud and cant be changed using the main volume !
Any idea why its like that or any fix for it !
Install reg editor
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Volume]
"MaxdBAtten"=dword:2D (2D = 45)
change the value from 45 to 70
It seems ChevronWP7 doesnt work anymore for me , is there anyother way to do it ?
I cant install anything on the phone other than MarketPlace apps
ChevronWP7 works for everyone, close all your dropbox, antivirus, itunes, firefox, iplayer etc...CNTRL ALT DEL windows task manager, kill selected programs.
after installing a reg editor, im glad my wp7 looks a bit more tinkerable
also theres some sort of hiss that apparently has been around since the high volume bug, but only noticed now when level 1 is much softer
this hiss reminds me of those cheap ass logitech speakers I have when theres no sound playing lol, i hope this can be fixed in the future...

I have tried this and performed a reset and the alarm volume is still a lot louder than any other system sounds. Is there something that I'm missing? or another method?
Same problem...
I have the same issue.
Out of the box the the main volume for music, ring and in call volume can be controlled via the main control but the notification and alarm volume is very high and seamingly independant from the main volume level.
After tweaking the registry value:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Volume\MaxdBAtten
... from 6 to 80 the overall system volume decreased including system notifications but the alarm sound is still much higher than all other levels. I never sleep through it anymore - which is a plus - but dropping it slightly would be nice.
Same thing here... I'm scared out off sleep That's not very plesent.
Any registry tweak for this situation?
For me this worked (for 50% sound volume):
HKCU\ControlPanel\SoundCategories\Alarm\InitVol = 50 (integer)

how do i adjust the super ultra loud volume?
and how do i fix the loud alarm?
guide...
Make sure your pc has Zune 4 and .netframework 4 installed (.net is needed to run chevron and "TomXAPdeployer")
1. unlock your handset with chevron.
2. Use an "TomXAPdeployer" to install a registry editor to your handset. It's available on XDA if you serach a bit (i've attached below -just remove the ".zip" extension at the end of the filename).
3. Make the following registry chage to reduce the violume of your notifications:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Volume]
"MaxdBAtten"=dword:2D (2D = 45)
change the value from 45 to 70
4. Create this registry entry to reduce the volume of the alram:
[HKCU\ControlPanel\SoundCategories\Alarm]
"InitVol = 50 (integer)"
You might need to reboot your phone just to tidy everything up.
The tweaks work well.
I did it the harder way? Went to marketplace and downloaded the Media Volume setting on the free trial. Works a treat for me.
Maybe I should try the easy way, of changing reg files tweeking things?? NOT.
Hmmm
I did looked at that App, as far as i can see it just chages the registry vlaues for you to suit certain profiles.
Seems like a nice app - but changing the reg values manually saves a few pence and avoids having to install another piece of software...
What ever way works best for you.

This worked great for me, although i used (InitVol = 25) that made it quieter for to my liking. Thanks for the tip!

Chinese Android MTK Quad-core 1.3GHZ 8227L YT9216b - microphone volumen very low

I just bought and android head chinese Podofo MTK Quad-core 1.3GHZ 8227L YT9216b and i am thinking to update SW but now i have a problem with the built-in mic level volume. It is almost impossible to hold a conversation by phone. I tried to install a external microphone and it doesn't works.
Does anybody have same problem?
I have the same problem. Have you solved it?
Add to the faq on microphone volume: 1. We go to the engineering menu of the MTK (for example, a program from the market) 2. The "Equipment" tab 3. Item "Audio" 4. Item Headset (it changes the volume of the microphone on the face) 5. Select Microphone from the drop-down list. 6. Write down the Level settings on a piece of paper. 7. Level0-Level 10, I had values from 180 to 255. I set everything to 240 (at 255, the interlocutors said that they could hear themselves if I had a high speaker volume. Accordingly, if you have too much noise or too loud, you can experiment with the values). 11-14 level I had zeros - so I left it. Bottom line: they hear perfectly
