I have tried Evil and Gorilla's Desire HD Rom's, Ice Glacier, CM 7, Royal Thunderbolt...have never ran into any issues on either of those. Each phone is unique and will not give you the same results. My advice is to decide what you like stock or sense and then try the different roms out and go from there.

I agree CM7 is the bomb, no issues, tried sense again, but just couldn't stay with it back to CM

Once your "rooted" and your no longer running stock there is no such thing of "100% FULLY working"..
But try CM7 nightlies there awesome.
You can give my AOSP 1.0.1 a shot... It is functional... I don't believe it has any visible bugs...
My vote is on Orange sense, such a great Rom haven't found much, if anything at all, wrong with it

I have no problems with Royal Ginger 1.6. Its awesome, I run this one all the time.

Not to be a party pooper, but shouldn't this be in Q&A?
Yes it should be in Q&A.
But, with any AOSP Rom you are going to have data slowdown. After a while of the phone being in standby the data will drop to about 1mb downloads. WiFi will cap at about the same.
Once you toggle airplane mode it wakes something up and you will have your usual speed back.
No one has been able to solve this yet, and is the only drawback to aosp.

I been runnin royalginger v1.4.1 for the longest & never had an issue, internet speeds never slowed dwn & wifi was just plain fast,as for 2.2 royalglacier has been the most stable,Team Royal's rom are smooth, fast & stable but again once rooted no rom is 100%,**** no phone is 100%.....
Roylalthunder is a great and fast Rom too and your speeds increase as well

Royal glacier is the most stable build I've ever had on a phone. It's so good that I have a brand new g2x that isn't being used at the moment.

CM7 Nightlies
Thanks I'm really liking it but I heard the RG looks great and saves battery life

I switched from cm7 to royal Ginger 1.6. Very fast and responsive. Moving from screen to screen is quick. Apps load up fast. Actually i am having trouble using up my battery everyday before charging it at night. Sometimes it will last two days without needing to be charged. Coupled with faux's latest kernel Cfs lv I have not run into any problems so far. Signals are good and strong.

I moved from CM7 to RG1.6 and can say it runs a bit faster and good on battery.

I have to give that a try sometime. faux keeps releasing a new version every day...i am tempted. I have always been fan of pure google experience (and then customize on my own)
use the new CM7 (7.0.2) its very stable.

If you want pure aosp that is fast as hell without the extra crap... get faux's rom. Its amazing.

Don't really like questions like this but every rom is different. It is all personal preference. Your phone is different as well it may not like certain roms. You should do try out different roms to see what your phone likes best.

which one is better...
I think what is being asked here is not which one is better, because that answer would be based on opinion; the info sought here is what are the ups and downs of each ROM so he will know which one would be best for him.

The only way to know based on your own preference is to try them all. It only takes a few minutes to change roms. I suggest you try them all for a few days each ans go from there.
My personal preference is pure Google. I hate extra stuff. Some people need a little flavor so CM is great. Just try them all and make your own choice

I would say that is the best thing to do try them all... Does it even happen on stock?
I am using royalginger and loving it except for 2-5 minute data dropout every hour or so. Using built-in kernal and S=Off.
I know folks are working on this and will figure it out soon but I wonder if there is a rom I can move to in the meantime that doesn't suffer from this, for me, quite crippling problem.
I appreciate any/all suggestions. Thanks.
Any sense rom shouldn't have that problem. So as long as it sense Rom should be no data drops haven't had one yet. On any sense rom.
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA Premium App
Yep. Anything sense doesn't have that issue. Its an AOSP issue. I believe faux is looking into the issue for his next aosp rom.
Until then.. you will be fine with sense roms.

but the G2x isn't AOSP. I learned that this week, It's a variant of AOSP but has LGs innards in it.
I've had my Epic for about a few days now and I'm starting to feel like I made the wrong choice. I chose mostly on the hardware, than the software. The battery drains like the phone has a hole in it, the TW UI is just bad and I can't use the regular launcher. I'm sure this phone would be better with pure android. So what should I do? ROMs, Kernals, etc. Thanks in advance!

Seriously though, did you try launcher pro or adw or any other launcher yet? Get a task killer, estrongs is the one I use. Use it. Move all apps that don't have a widget to the sd card.. custom roms IMO are still too buggy..

There's definitely a nice selection of Kernels and ROM's available, take a look at the development section, read through some of the features of the different ones available, and see if you find one you'd like to try.
In the end, whether you keep the phone or return it for a Nexus, is all up to you... none of us can really answer this for you, because we all have different wants and needs in our phones.
And fwiw, software side of this phone can be easily modified/customized, so if you're happy with the hardware, then perhaps you should look into the software customization.

Well the kernel has tweaks in it that can save battery... I'd go with syndicate rom frozen with the genocide 1.1 kernel... pretty good combo for me, I can have my screen on for about 4hrs and I'm sure if you use the phone less you can get a few days out of it

Yeah the only buggy rom's are some of the gingerbread roms and there LEAKS... if you want a stable rom syndicate 1.2 is the one to go with.

A good tip to remember...if you do go the custom ROM route, some have no journaling. If you choose one of those, make sure you power down phone completely and don't let battery die or you will get force closes out the arse. If this my be an issue for you, get a ROM with journal on or flash the journal on mod after flashing the ROM.

Probably a dumb question, but can I root and install a rom w/o going on a computer?

Syndicate Rom. It's absolutely awesome and very few bugs with almost all features working that I have noticed. Turns the Epic into the EPIC!!!!
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
Go with SyndicateROM Frozen. The 1.1 version needs updating ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1091680 ) on the ClockworkMod. The 1.2 version ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1131544 ) requires the latest ClockworkMod ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1115999 ). You need to flash modem to EC05 with Odin.
What I did was flashing modem to EC05, put the first CWM on the phone, then installed SynROM Frozen 1.1. After that, I updated the CWM, then updated to 1.2. I think the 1.2 is not full package (?) and upgrade from the 1.1 (?). Rodderik will update the 1.2 version with latest CWM. You can either wait for that update or continue with the steps that I did toward the 1.2 version.
Edit - SynROM Frozen 1.1 comes with ClockworkMod included. When you get it installed, just update the ClockworkMod (what I did was using the flash method with Odin) then upgrade to 1.2 version.

You had it partially right. Hardware is paramount simply because you can replace the software with better software but you can't replace what drives it. Root your phone with the new purple CWM and then give the Syndicate rom a try. What kernel you choose for it depends on your phone since they each take to certain kernels differently. I am personally using the second to last version of the Genocide kernel and voltage control with great results.
Think of the rom as a car's body that you can choose to option and the kernel as its engine.
I prefer Go Launcher over Launcher Pro and Handcent over all the others available.
If you want incredible battery life download an app called DataSwitch by TomatoX.
Make sure to enable journaling too.

I thought the same thing when I first started using tw... If your taking about the launcher I won't argue. But the rest of tw is pretty good. Built in task manager that clears ram, the dialer is dope. Contacts list is very functional, U can swype right on a name to call our left to txt. Also easy to navigate if u have alot of contacts. Hold your finger on the right in portrait mode to jump through letters, than if, lets say you know alot of T's when u get to T, slide your finger to the left and you can sort by the second letter (feel free to say thanks). If your in to facebook the buddies now and whatever other things are built in to the tw launcher (though if u change launchers you lose those widgets) activities in contacts links your fb friends, the... Does... And u can... With... And so on and so on and so on... theres alot to learn that u wrong in a few days... I've had mine since release day and I just found out... Yesterday... long story short, u only get one chance to trade ur phone in. Use the whole 30 days before u decide
P.s. u can change your screen brightness by long pressing the notification bar and sliding left to right. But u gotta have auto brightness turned off (thanks ↓)

So I recently unrooted my phone to have Sprint connect it to their services. I updated to the newest software version 2.3.5 but, nothing changed as far as the sense goes. It's still the same old sense since like 2.2. And what I mean it doesn't have the theme changer or shortcuts in the drop down menu. Am I missing something?
I remember unrooting my old EVO to see what the OTA updates were like a while back and seeing the new features. But I remember having to install that update via Sync. Problems is I looked on HTC's website and all over googleville and couldn't find it anywhere. Can somebody please help me with this? And possibly refresh my memory on how to do it via Sync. Thanks in advance.

HTC never updated us to sense 2. Kinda sucks really...HTC even updated phones with less ram and slower processors (for example htc wildfire) but left us with the OG EVO on the old original Sense.
Kinda bullsh*t if you ask me but whatever at this point I get to upgrade in Novemeber, though I would still like to see sense 2 before then.
It wasn't the full sense 2 but it has some of the features like the new lock screen, the drop down menu shortcuts to WiFi networks and such. And the themes changer

You had quick settings in the Notification pulldown and the Sense 3.0 lockscreen stock on your EVO? I don't think so . . .
I am running stock software and I can assure you it does not have quick settings and the unlock screen is the same as my old Hero had so there is no difference. You can download the app called quick setting which will give you the settings in the pull down menu but this is not from HTC.

You have to use HTCDev.com to unlock the bootloader on the 2.3.5 version, which allows you to get root. The only other exploit is TacoRoot, which allows you to downgrade to a version rootable with unrEVOked or Revolutionary (you can likewise downgrade after unlocking with HTCDev).
