So, I've got this issue and I can't figure it out.
My Messaging app (default one, ie: MMS/Text/Email.. Pocket Outlook is it?) keeps opening up on its own, constantly.
I close it, and half a second later, it opens up again. I force close using InClose, and it opens up again. It's very annoying.
Anyone know what could cause this? Please help!
TIA!

Did you configure a pop3 acct recently ?
have you done a soft reset yet ?

POP3, no.. but I'll double check the settings to make sure one hasn't snuck in there somehow.
Soft reset, yes.. many times.. still keeps happening

Having the same problem. Is it a virus? Is there any solution yet?
I have a similar problem. But in my device is not only with the Messaging app, all the programs keep opening like if someone was controlling the device very quickly and sometimes I can't get control of it. When I let the device in standby mode for a while the problem ends. I guess it's a virus, but I can't find anything in the internet to help me. I've tried to change the pressure thereshold of the device, but no success.
If someone has a solution for that, please letme know.
Bye,

So before you say it, I've Google'd the entire site, and several other sites trying to find a cure for activesync. I use Quick Menu to auto close activesync. I've set up a dummy server, changed everything to manual. I turned off any serial port other than usb. But it still comes on every time I connect to the internet and wants to sync remotely. I even thought it would be better after I flashed OT4.0, but it actually got worse... Are there any other suggestions, or is anyone else having this problem?
I just use quickmenu to Not Show and Not Close. You can use your taskmanager to kill the process but it will restart randomly anyway it is a persistant process.
yep that's why i gave up trying to mess with activsync.
There has to be something that triggers it, nothing is random. Maybe when it goes online to update weather or email? Someone has to know something. I can't believe that everyone has this problem. It's like my phone runs just the way I like, except it "randomly" gives me the finger.
This problem has driven me nuts and I figured out how to fix it. You need a program like Total Commander, I use Task Manager (not the default one on the phone). Go to where the Notifications are listed, look for one called "repllog.exe" you should have 3 of them. Look for the one that says AppRunAfterTimeChange and disable it. Do a soft reset and you should be set let me know if this works for you.
activesync fix
start/settings/personal/phone/timezones, and uncheck "automatic change time zone and clock" button
thats all you have to do
Thanks Digit! But doesn't this mean that my system time won't automatically update? I can live with that, just curious...
This is the second time I've had this issue so i thought i'd post it.
Basically what happened was my phone was in my pocket and it locked itself out. I had pattern lock enabled so i was getting "Too many pattern attempts. please login" No matter how i put my information in username (by itself), [email protected], [email protected] it wouldn't authenticate me. The first time it happened to me i posted the following thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=485903
No matter what i did i was not able to get in so i just reflashed the phone. After a reflash the authentication worked fine. At that time I was using one of JFs ROMS so i figured that may have been the issue. Recently the problem happened again. This time i was using one of Cyanogens ROMS. This time instead of flashing the phone i followed haykuro's thread to defeat pattern lock:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=485988
once i did those adb commands and rebooted the phone it asked to authenticate again but this time it worked! After it authenticates it will ask you for a new unlock pattern. And you're all set! hopefully it works for you. This is a really annoying problem and im surprised more people aren't having it.
Figured it out without hard reset!!! htc hero " too many pattern attempts"
I figured out a way to get past the screen lock "too many attempts" problem without doing a hard reset on my phone.
I called my Phone (from my Skype account so I could get to the notifications pull down. (couldn't get to home screen or setting from the call) But, I could pull down my notifications. I had a "new email" notification so I clicked on it so that my gmail would open. I then opened an email that had a URL link in it and I clicked on the link. This then opened my browser, which tried to open the link but, it couldn't because, I was still on my Skype call. This prompted the browser to give me an error message that had a Settings button. I clicked on the settings button and was able to turn on my wi-fi and connect to my home network ( I couldn't get to any other settings). At this point I pulled down my notifications again and clicked on the sign in failure notification and this time my phone was able to authenticate my gmail password, through the wi-fi connection.
FYI, I had to go to gmail and change my password as I'd forgotten it. If you don't remember your password you'll have to go through the gmail, I forgot my password/reset process.
If you have email notifications turned off, I think you can send a URL link through with a text message but, I've never done that. Maybe someone else can chime in on how to do that. It's probably pretty simple.
Lemme know if this works for you.

Sounds like one hell of a flaw in the security to me. I actually hope that this gets fixed sometime in the near future.
I had this problem on a HTC Hero I could not run sqlite3 ont he command line for permissions so the second thread did not work for me. But did not want to flash my phone, this is how I solved it.
Take out the battery, OFF button does not work.
Take out the SD card.
Plugin the USB cable to the phone and turn the phone back on.
Download the Android SDK
untar to a new directory
run
./tools/adb -d shell
To get a shell open, you do not need to be root.
You should get a $ prompt, indicating you are not root
Make a call from another phone to the blocked phone and answer the call.
Then run the following command.
$ am start -a android.settings.SETTINGS -n com.android.settings/com.android.settings.Settings
This will bring the Settings window to the front so you can then disable the screen lock, thus proving that the screen lock facility not a security feature.
Screen lock is still useful so you don't make unintentional phone calls.
easier method
You can also enter your username, and in the password field just enter the string "null"
Hello!
I have a problem with my hd 2.
Somehow I activated the phone lock, i'm not sure how it happened, as I know where the setting is and I don't recall activating it.
The problem is that I can't figure out how to deactivate it again (the check box "Prompt if phone unused for" is grayed out, can't uncheck it)
I can change the settings, like, how much time before it locks up or what password I want to use, but no disable.
I really don't want this phone lock to be activated so if anyone could tell me what to do to deactivate it i'd be most grateful!
Tried to search the forums for it but couldn't find anything.
Thanks!
try clearing the password fields, and changing the time to 0 minutes, and then see if it'll let you untick the box.
You can disable auto lock with BsB Tweaks. That's probably the easiest method.

MidnightDraven: thanks, I tried that but it won't let me clear the password field, just keeps saying that it's not allowed to keep it blank, even if I set the time to 0.....
johncmolyneux: I'll give it a go
Thanks both of you for replying

I tried out this application, and disabled the "auto lock" function, but I still get prompted when I reboot my phone, that I have to type in the phone lock code ?
Seems to have worked other than that....any other ideas as to how I can get rid of it completely ?
I don't know what to say mate. I just set mine to lock and require a pin, but it let me untick the "prompt if unused" checkbox and blanked out the password for me when I did it. It's now back to the way it was.
Have you installed any software recently?

Weird...
Well i'm using topix ROM which I got from these forums, and only other thing I have installed is the cab that makes the battery shown in %.
Could it be the topix ROM perhaps?

It's possible. Try raising the issue in the thread you got the ROM from. I'm sure someone else would have seen the issue if it is caused by that ROM.
Figured it out

Figured out why it got activated!
When I setup the exchange connection for my workplace must be some sort of security policy, that forces you to activate the phone lock if you want to sync the emails, can't find away around it, but at least the mystery is solved
Thanks again for your help!

Glad to help mate
Hi,
I Have the same issue with exchange.
But there is no other option to disable it? some reg modification?
Hi all,
I've just got my HD2 and it's the first Windows Mobile device I've synced with my exchange server. Had the same thing and it really bugged me but I found a work around. If you're an Exchange admin (or you're in good with those who are), Google search for Exchange-2003-Mobile-Messaging-Part2-Uncovering-Device-Security-Policies - use the first link. You can disable the requirement for a password globally, or you can specify an individual user to exclude from the password policy. I've just added my username in as an exclusion and it works like a treat!
Good luck
Hi guys! First time posting here and would like to request for some assistance regarding my problem with the new Kitkat 4.4.2 update. As the title suggests, ai can't get to select other screen lock options, aside from the "Secured with Password". Swipe, signature and pattern options are greyed out, as shown in the attached pic. How can I reactivate the other passlock options? Entering only the password is too much hassle for me. Thank you very much?
Don't ask me, because I don't know why, but it's like that and that's the way it is.

Ok. Thanks for uplifting my spirits up. Anymore people out there to help with my problem?
cmon, it even tells you why you cant use the other options. cant you even try to google it ?
turned off by administrator, blah blah blah...
Either you have encrypter your phone, or you have exchange mail service or the device admin disabled it(as it already says)
