Anyone else getting a WiFi error randomly? I'm using a pre-rooted version of EC05 and use Barnacle WiFi tether sometimes at work. Sometimes I can fix it by enabling airplane mode then enabling it but it's about 50/50. Other times I have to reboot. Anyone know of another fix?

I was having this problem earier for a while if you go into the nttings menu and go to wireless networks unclick and click the check bow to enabled and disable wifi that fixed th problem for me.

I have this same problem as well from time to time. It started when I upgraded to EB13 and it still happens on EC05 as well for me, I'm running the stock rom that is rooted with one click.
I have had this problem since EB13 and it's also on EC05. I have even tried clicking the WIFI under network settings as well and it still errors out. Sometimes it takes a few seconds to show the error notification, other times it may take several minutes. I have tried turning data off and on, airplane mode off and on and that may work 50/50. The only reliable way to get WIFI to turn on has been to reboot the phone.
Running stock rooted EC05 done via manual update from EB13.
Having this can't he issue a well. Mine requires a reboot

I get this. Mine's not random though; it never happens the first time I try wifi after a reboot and it almost always happens if wifi has been turned on and then turned off again at any time after a reboot.
I can usually get it to turn on wifi after a couple of tries if I use "wifi settings" to turn it on. It almost never works if I use the toggle on the little drop-down menu. The annoying part is that if I click to turn wifi on, there is a long wait until it will show "Error," and I can't retry wifi until that happens. I'd say maybe 10% of the time, tops, do I need to reboot.

Should I try reflashing the EC05 modem? I updated from EB13 to EC05. Should I use the modem from the EB13 to EC05 update or would using the DI18 to EC05 modem work as well? Odin or CWM the modem? Still learning flashing so please bear with my newbness.
OK just downloaded the EB13 to EC05 modem and flashed via CWM. So far i was able to turn the wifi on and off multiple times with no errors. We'll see how it goes in the long run.

In the same boat as everyone else here, and after re-checking any pertinent threads it still does not appear that anyone has found a proven fix.
Besides flashing the EC05 modem, any other ideas?
Can anyone who flashed the EC05 modem report their sustained results?
Thanks!
I still get a WiFi error with the EC05 modem.
It generally presents itself when I'm downloading data via 3G and then switch to WiFi. Without exception, all I've done is go into airplane mode and back again and close the app through Task Manager (dolphin, market, etc. whatever was using data) to get it working again.
I get this as well. I just go in airplane mode and try it again. Then it works.
same issue here.. when i leave the house i turn off wifi.. when i get home it almost always times out and i have to reboot the phone
I don't know if this will work for everyone, but I've found that decreasing the beacon interval on my router's settings completely got rid of this issue for me.

I haven't had the issue you are speaking of. I think that a reflash of the ROM may fix it.

Ran into an issue with wifi on stock DK28. Wifi stopped working after two months on stock DK28. The settings>wireless and network>wifi settings menu shows "Error," and remains unchecked and grayed out, even if I try to toggle wifi on or off.
Other than the occasional reboot, the only changes I've made were to install the DialerOne app and Handcent, though I don't know how those could be related.
I did find these topics on the issue, but no solutions:

Perhaps I need better search-fu, or just someone who can point me in the right direction.
Thanks in advance.
Happens all of the time on all of the roms I have tried that use DK28 as a base. One of the most annoying issues I have dealt with.
I've seen people report that, but it hadn't happened to me yet. Did you ever find a workaround?
Happens to me a lot. I find it happens most when I turn WiFi off after loosing my connection (ie leaving the house and then turning it off after I go out of range). This isn't 100% though. A reboot always fixes it. Sometimes an Airplane mode fixes it too, but not always.
I am one fo the fortunate ones that has not ran into this issue.

Airplaine mode and reboots haven't fixed it for me, but a battery pull did.
Thanks for the help, everyone.
It happens to me a lot after I shut off Wifi (as mentioned above).
I just do a power off and power on to fix the problem.
This method avoids having to reboot the phone to re-enable broken WiFi after a period of time.
Temporary fix/workaround is goto > Settings > Wireless and network > Wi-Fi settings > toggle on "Wi-Fi" checkbox and wait for services to restart.
Thanks for the suggestion. I should have explained further in the OP. When the setting showed "Error" I could not toggle Wi-fi on or off, e.g. I couldn't check the box you suggest. The option remained grayed out.
I have had the same issues, although it got to the point this week that it would just not come back even when before I could just click on the greyed out error in wifi settings. Reflashed AGAIN, including the modem with ODIN just for good measure, and now I have not had any trouble at all, which is awesome. Have no clue what is causing it though!
Quick workaround is holding home button to to bring up task manager, going to "RAM" and clearing the level 2.

Ever since I got Cyanogenmod 7 working on my phone, I've had a lot of trouble getting my 3g to toggle back on after turning my screen on. I'm using JD for the toggle so is it a Juice Defender problem or a modem problem?
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
I have the same problem, I just switch to airplane mode and back and it fixes it. It only happens periodically, it works as it should more often then not. I attribute it to CM7 awesomeness. At least JD works, Green Power won't even try to manage the data connection.
Ah I wouldn't have thought to try that. Yeah I love this rom compared to stock so I'm more than willing to put up with a few gripes.

I have this same problem and run JD but it's not a JD problem. I would say it happens to me once or twice a day(usually when the phone is powered on for more than 6 hours without a reboot). A lot of people have this and toggling back and forth between airplane mode fixed the problem pretty damn easily.
If you want a quick way to do this go to
settings
cyanogenmod settings
interface
notification power widget
widget buttons
select airplane mode
Now you have airplane mode in your pull down bar and you can quickly enable it and disable it when this happens.
I have two problems relating to this. My 3g wont turn on automatically when someone sends me an MMS. Usually my stock ROM would turn the 3g on and download the MMS, but now I just receive a text message from a number rather than the name of the contact, and I need to press a Download button to download the picture/MMS. Then I have to turn on my 3G manually, then I have to press the Download button, and only then do I receive the picture/MMS.
Also, It has been happening quite often now. My 3G does not turn on, even when I turn it on manually so I have to reboot my phone an only then will it turn on.
Im using CM7 nightly, latest one up to date on HTC Desire HD.
Hope someone fixes this!
Ever since I downloaded gingerbread I have noticed (and I know I'm not alone) a wifi freeze that would occur everytime my screen would turn off. I've tried countless factory resets, reflashing recoveries, and apps like wifi reassociate and nothing seemed to work. When I reset my phone it would seem fine till I uploaded my go launcher app . Since then it wouldn't work, so I tried uninstalling it and vuala it works again and flawlessly might I add. I use the wifi off Wm screen is off feature in advanced settings and once I turn on the screen within 5 seconds the wifi is on again as well. Hopefully this is a fix for others as well..

sorry but just to clarify, are you saying that wifi freezes with go launcher only?
because I think that many users here are using launchers that differ from go launcher and yet they are facing this issue.
btw I am using stock 407 since a week and never once the wifi froze (touch wood!)
What I've noticed is that when WiFi stops working after the Dell Streak has been on standby for a while is that if I switch the device to Airplane Mode, then off Airplane Mode, it works properly, till it's been on standby for ages again. Small annoying glitch, but I deal with it.
It never freezes while in active use.

I'm using DSC 0.66b with Phoenix kernel and also noticed a problem with Wi-Fi freeze, but I fixed it by simply going to Settings > Wireless & networks > Wi-Fi Settings > Advanced and changing Wi-Fi sleep policy to never and then letting Green Power app to manage my Wi-Fi. Good enough for me, maybe this will be useful to someone else as well. Cheers.

The first few days it worked. But after awhile Wifi Fixer started giving me issues, specially using 100% of the CPU. I unistalled it. I couldn't take my Streak being slow.
The same thing was happening for me also. However, the problem went away after I re-flashed the 407 recovery and installed the Olleh ROM again on my streak. Fingers crossed !!
I was able to fix my wifi problems by setting up a static IP on the phone and router. I have a detailed post in the DSC Rom thread...

I've noticed a lot that with 407 the wifi shows as connected, but won't work until I turn wifi off and on again.
I hope this helps
I was looking into this WiFi freeze and ran into the XDA's crew. Is it possible to have mobile data working perfectly? I can't locate my sim card I believe its built in. My WiFi is set to off. My router will resume network if I turn wifi back on. The weird thing is. I have no data plan on this phone, its been down for years. I was shocked but it didn't help with the freezing, it was if I turned WiFi back on. Then the old Vibrate, Stall.ing, vibe one more time then the WiFi freeze thing.
Still on topic don't worry but that talk about go launcher. It "was" recently installed on my device. Till we all started doing data wipes Hahaa. My point is. As a fresh data restore no apps installed yet. My Google Search suggested that I use explorer, youtube or tubemate to view my search? I dont have that installed anymore I'm a changed man.. Thats why I brought up your Go Launcher theory. Maybe both launchers are interfering I guess, cuz I wouldn't know. I'm only here to give XDA's more Details so they can do what they do best...
My Samsung S738C is running 4.0.4 ics
Basebands S738CWYMJ1
KERNEL 3.0.8-1251199
BUILD IMM76D
Start with Go launcher or if there's anything this Noob can do. Won't be much
good job
thank you very much sir !
Hey guys,I was wondering if anyone else is having issues with there Wi-Fi staying connected? Mine will randomly drop and u will see 3g and when I go to Wi-Fi,I see an authentication error has occurred.
Its pretty annoying. locking the phone and than turning it back on will fix it but than it just happens again.sometimes hours later sometimes, right away. I did some Google searching and saw a few other people have this issue but none of the threads have a definitive resolution. I am on stock rooted rom and had the issue before I rooted.I also haven't done the mf9 update yet so I am still on mdl.any help would be great!

No it happens on allot if different routers,I googled the issue and see allot if different people have the issue but no solutions that I can find. I just updated to mf9 and I still have the problem.if I rest the router it works just fine for awhile.wet have many different devices and the galaxy is the only one with the issue.

I think it's an issue with the mf9 kernel, if you are rooted try flashing a custom kernel and then wiping cache & dalvik then fix permissions then reboot. that should fix the issue. if you are not rooted, i'm not sure what you can do other than take it in to sprint and see if you can get a new device.

apparently has to do with wifi power save mode
you can turn it off by following the instructions
dialing *#0011# which takes you into"service Mode",,, then pushing the menu button and selecting (at the bottom) the "Wi-Fi" option from the pop-up,,, then the toggle "ON/OFF" for wi-fi powersave
you will have to redo this after a reboot so I just save *#0011#as a contact to easily pull up when I need to
Help!
I did the *#0011# thingy then nothing happend, it's still saying "saved, secured" sometimes "Authentication error occurred".
is there any way to solve this problem? T.T
** make sure you have the correct password saved for the network your trying to.connect to.. id click it.. then hit " forget ".....then try to re-enter the password again....

Guys I'm trying to fix my daughters phone, I've looked around and I tried a few things to no avail.
The issue is the phone is on 4.4.2 nb1 from an ota update. The phone used to be my sister in law's. Before she gave it to my daughter she did a factory reset and now Bluetooth and WiFi both won't turn on. No matter what you do.
I tried to Odin a stock nb1 image to see if maybe the ota update was corrupted or something but it only starts and runs for like 2 seconds before it will just hang and do nothing.
Any ideas?

Try turning wifi power save mode off. Dial *#0011#, press menu then wifi and then switch it off and see if it does anything.
