Hi there,
I was thinking about it a lot, but I'm still not quite sure...
I thought about trying a Android 2.1 or 2.2 rom, just to find out how it looks and works. Im currently on hcdr.rom (Android 1.6).
Do i have to wipe before flashing the higher Android-Version-Rom?
What if I don't like it and want to flash my nandroid-backup of HCDR.Rom back? Do I have to wipe here (note: I'm talking about flashing a backup...)?
Greetings

Yes. At least partially.
So lets say I flash a Rom like Pancake. I wipe before flashing this.
But when I perform a nandroid-backup of my HCDR.rom-Backup i shouldn't have to wipe? Correct?

If you update phone, root it , install xrecovery and then install a new rom.
Or i think you an use (if you have) a buck up from last update, and then install a rom.I am not sure for the lastone.

try watching this video to have some idea in installing another new ROM..
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lPV6Ue5a0Ww
Hope this can help you..
If you have flashed MiniCM, you do not need to reinstall Xrecovery, just check the installationinstructions for the other roms and flash it in Xrecovery. On some roms you just need to put the update.zip in the root and update and for other roms, you need to put the unzipped folder in the Xrecovery backup folder and backup your phone from Xrecovery.

you can backup the rom via cwm and copy the file something that is names as 2-1-2012-2- something in the clockworkmod folder on your sdcard and paste in in the same folder of your sisters phones sd card in the clockworkmod folder, and vice versa...give it a try it wont brick
Yeah it works.
I've done that before because I lost my own backup of stock rom when my pc went bonkers. Apparently you need a backup of the backup. Lol.

I tried a few methods but could you tell me how to install CWM permananently on the galaxy y? I have the temporary one. As in I have to flash it repeatedly everytime I use it!
Help me out
Also, I tried backing it up using the temporary CWM it won't install. Quite a long back up goes on for a while and in the end it says "can't mount /data!". Tell me how do I back it up because I'm dying to put in a new rom
Lastly, what roms are there for this phone? Good ones?

There's no permanent cwm recovery for SGY yet, ya i know that's sad!
Good ROMS? Try creeds 2.0 and Hybrid
but doesn't creed's have a lot of bugs? I have seen a lot of threads on XDA saying so.
What about the error while backing up my system? it says "can't mount /data!" in the end and that's it! though there is a backup file generated in my sd card
creeds 2.1 has bugs, anyways, try Hybrid! i didnt try it but was following the discussions and its not buggy!
I didnt have any problem with nandroid backup, may be problem with your cwm! try another cwm and ensure that you have atleast 500 Mb (worst case) free space on SD card

Try doing it. I mean try restoring it. I tried so before flashing my new rom and it worked fine for me.

1, yes
2, don't understand
3, don't think so, its simple. Maybe... One time I got issue, when the backup was unsuccessful because of lack of free space, but I didn't see it, just realized the problem when wanted to restore.
4, yes, if the backup was made in unrooted state.

pls i tried to install custom rom but my phone showed blank screen .
pls tell me how to removed custom rom
just flash stock rom via odin
Next time make a backup of stock before flashing a custom rom. So you can just restore it easily if you don't like the custom rom.

Go to CWM recovery (I assume you already have it) select backup and restore then backup. Restoring is same process but choose restore instead of course.

thanks silvane.. but.. does it will remove the current rom u are using?
It doesn't "remove" anything. Restoring from a backup overwrites your current one. So if you wanna get back to stock just restore your backup of it if you have one.

First flash the stock rom via Odin.
When the flashing process completes & and your is going to restart keep out battery at the samsung logo screen.(let your phone not boot now).
Now plug in your battery again and boot in recovery mode & then wipe data and cache and then reboot
Whatever i reboot my phone, it will stuck in bootlogo and boot again...a way to reboot normally is to wipe dalvic cache and cache...but by doing that, it will always do a Android is Upgrading and will load about 5 to 10 minutes until it's finished...so it's a long time to wait for me to use my phone for every reboot...
I constantly changing my Sim card, so a reboot is necessary....this problem never occur to me before...i have flashes new rom evertime but the problem still persis....but i always dirty flashes every one of them...i also do a restore system and kernel image but not data..but still the same....i have to many apps and setting to do a clean flash...is their any other way beside that.
I'm in Xperia Z Ultra, Custom stock rom Lollipop 5.0.2 .242....
Any replies is appreciated....thanks[emoji4]

I found this when searching for a fix...
After gapps is flashed into my Galaxy S4, I kept getting "Android is Upgrading" on every reboot.Following steps had helped me to get rid of it.*
Open */system/framework*folder with Root Explorer*delete*com.google.widevine.software.drm.jar and*com.google.widevine.software.drm.odes delete*com.google.widevine.software.drm.xml*in*system/etc/permissions Now , reboot your device.
Will their be consequences when deleting these files...
