[Q] Still required to sign HTC waiver with custom mod? - myTouch 3G, Magic General

Does using a custom ROM still make you lose 3G connectivity with Rogers? I use to have CM 5.0 but it was causing me to lose my internet every couple of days and I don't want to sign the HTC waiver. I don't think I can take much of the crappy SenseUI. I'm currently using the latest Rogers ROM with the HTC Magic, which was updated a few weeks ago.
Thank you.

Yes you need to sign ROGERS waiver.
It's no big deal just sign it (I did).
They basically are just saying if 911 doesn't work on your phone it's not their problem.

Telus P4000 on Bell Service?

I'm currently using an HTC Touch (Vogue, Unlocked, Custom Rom, yadda yadda yadda) and I recently came to acquire a used HTC P4000 (Telus's Titan version).
I still have some monkeying around to do with the P4000 (Upgrade to newest official rom among other things.) to see if I'm interested in using it as my primary phone instead of the Touch. Can someone explain if it's possible to have the P4000 running on the Bell network- and who I'd have to talk to in order to set that up.
I'm assuming that it would need to be unlocked first (not sure how to do the p4000, I did my Vogue without any issues though).
Alrighty then.
Did a little forum lurking and I now have a fully unlocked P4000 running DCD's 4.1.2 rom with the Bell Carrier. Boots instantaneously and works wonderfully. The man is a bloody genius.
Now, as to my original question - I have my MSL for both my current HTC Touch/Vogue (Bell) and my recently acquired P4000 (Telus).
Is there a way/method/guide I can follow to manually program the P4000 to work on the Bell network in place of my Touch?
Do I find an underhanded/former/corrupt Bell employee that will transfer my settings for $25?
Do I see my friend who has a friend who's cousin knows this stuff?
Do I take it to the Bell store and say "My phone no workie, I has replacement, make workie?"
I hate to trash on my Vogue but this P4000 is pretty effing slick. Gotta love the Wi-Fi and actual movie acceleration for non-horrible playback.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Your biggest problem will be to see Bell will accept the P4000 ESn number in there database. If they won't then flashing and unlocking isn't worth your time.

Is the Rogers magic the right one for me?

Hello everyone, Ive been a long time reader of xda, have an htc advantage, htc touch dual, and an htc wing. I have flashed more roms to my advantage than i could ever remember, sadly I forgot my old username so here I am with a new one
Lately I have only been using my advantage as a bedside alarm clock, and I want to try Android. I prefer the body lines of the hero, but I would like the future option of using 3g. I am in Alaska and using tmobile. I would like to switch to ATT at some point in the future, and currently there is NO 3g service where i am in alaska with either providers. From what I can tell, the Rogers version of the magic is hands down the one to get if you want to run the hero rom. Ive read many posts that say it lags with the 192mb versions. I also want to get as full of a google experience as possible...OTA updates, Access to the Android Marketplace, google maps etc. Can anyone confirm that if I purchased an unlocked rogers magic off ebay, would I be able to get OTA updates over an edge connection in the USA? I do believe that the rogers magic should have the bands to work with ATT 3g right? As I said, there is no 3g service here, but when i switch to ATT later, and travel I would like to utilize the 3g. Just looking for some insight on what will more than likely be my next phone. Planning on purchasing tonight if we can come up with some answers!
The Rogers Magic will run on AT&T but not on T-MO.
You get access to the Market but not paid apps, you'll have to root to get full access.
You wont get OTA updates from Rogers, I'm a customer and they told me no go on OS updates. Have to contact HTC for that, but if your rooted does it matter?
Flash the latest/greatest ROM.
Clinton
ok well The Rogers has the 288MB you want:
and it also works on tmobile edge but on 3G however it works on att edge/3G. so if your thinking of swicthing over to att than this is the phone for you.
Ok, so if I root the phone, then I would have complete access to the android market? If purchasing an unlocked Rogers Magic, do i need to worry about getting one of the "perfect spl"s that isnt rootable yet, or is that only an issue for other versions?
Yep you'll have full access if you install "Market Enabler" after you root. I have not heard of any Rogers Magic haveing the "perfect SPL" I think so far it's only for the MyTouch and Hero.
Clinton
ClintonH is correct all available Roger Magics in the market are rootable.
Awesome, thanks for the great information. Looks like I will be purchasing one from ebay this weekend, unless you guys can recommend any reputable online shops to order from. I'll be just using the edge connection on it for a little while until i figure out how im going to get outta my tmobile contract...I currently have two active numbers under my contract with tmobile Not in much of a hurry though as i'll only be able to utilize the 3g when im travelling.
I actually have one fs on Ebay right now. Check out dgravo27 . It is the Rogers version.
Looks like yours isnt for sale anymore Dgravo, I just bought it! Too many other ones listed with 288 mb ram, however, they have the vodaphone logo and I dont think half the sellers even know whats inside their phones.

Virgin mobile legend not getting update.

http://community.htc.com/na/htc-forums/android/f/95/t/3518.aspx?PageIndex=3
So for those like me who purchased a virgin mobile legend we won't get it. Not sure what to do then.
Although it is a virgin phone, all I did to it was unlock it to use with Rogers. What should I do?
Sent from my HTC Legend using XDA App
i have a virgin legend too so am in the same boat...not really surprised that virgin is not coming out with the update - welcome to canada
i really want to flash the unbranded froyo rom that came out today but unfortunately it doesnt look like its possible now...
until we can change our cid's or have a resigned ROM with our cid (BM___001) we would have to root and go with cyanogen 6.1 or another custom rom (not my 1st choice)..
if anyone has a workaround please help us out...thanks in advance
Well I wouldn't mind trying a few ROM's, but I'm a complete join with this stuff. I suppose I need to learn now...

I bought a Legend from Virgin mobile in August. I became tired of their games and recently purchased a sim card from Bell and put it in the Legend. Guess what? It worked no problem. I can tell you I never unlocked my phone. The Virgin Legend did not have any Virgin mobile software or wigets in them. The only place I saw the word Virgin mobile, was in the network operators list, (mobile network settings), and in network operator name,(about phone, settings). These changed from Virgin, to Bell when I put the Bell sim in. I am now wondering if my phone is still branded to Virgin. If it is not, I would suggest to the OP that you terminate your account with Virgin on the basis that they ended your upgrade path, then take your phone over to Bell, or maybe even Rogers. that said, how do we know that rogers would care to license an OTA upgrade for a phone they never sold? At least Bell sold the phone for a few months.
I got my phone from Virgin as well and I am using the modaco stock froyo rom. It is basically stock except it's rooted. The experience will be exactly the same (unlike using other custom roms) Trying to make the new ruu work on a Virgin phone is probably not gonna be much simpler than rooting, so you may as well go the rooting route.

you realize bell=virgin right? bell discontinued the legend so you wont see an update from them either...
Not so my friend. Check out post #14
http://mobilesyrup.com/forum/showthread.php?t=3928
I figured they (virgin or bell) would either do it really late or not at all. So I debranded it, but got the same error as in the other threads during the upgrade.
Then I decided to try CM 6.1, and the only thing i regret is not trying it sooner. Never going back to sense again, CM is cleaner, faster, with lots more options.

It's based on the vodafone rom that came out couple weeks ago but there is nothing about vodafone in it (no logo nor junk app). It should be identical to the one that came out today (at least from the end-user point of view anyway)
Here is the link:

You guys really need to stop emailing unknowledgable "support staff" and wait for official announcements like this one from the Virgin Mobile Canada twitter feed:
"android update! we'll be offering android 2.2 froyo update for htc legend in mid-january. stay tuned for details."
Looks like official Froyo for our Legends after all!
couldnt possibly wait until jan and dont want any bell stuff on my legend so installed the official htc unbranded froyo rom....

Yeah, I couldn't wait either and put Cyanogenmod on my Legend. My wife will be getting the Virgin update when it's available
Hey guys!
Just to be sure, is Virgin Mobile software version the same as the Bell one?
If so, that means if Virgin get the update, us with a Bell phone will get it to?
Virgin announced the Vibrant's update, and it was rolled out to Virgin, Bell and Sasktel so I assume so yes.

[Q] Can I lift AT&T limitations from my Legend?

Hi all
I have an Legend AT&T that I bought on Amazon last fall.
The fact that it is AT&T branded means it demands that I have an AT&T data plan in order to use WiFi tethering. This is annoying to say the least since up here in Iceland we have no AT&T. I have contacted HTC and they confirm the phone is open and onlocked. AT&T customer support tried its level best to assist me in "unlocking" the phone with out success.
Can anyone tell me how I can get out of this predicament. I also have an ASUS Transformer that I was hoping to connect to the internet with the ATH Legend.
This restriction also means that I can not get updates for the phone since it wants to connect to AT&T for all that.
Please help.
Olafur.
WTF are you trolling or something? You're probably also one of the unluckiest people on Earth as AT&T (US) never ever released the HTC Legend. It was rumoured: http://www.engadget.com/2010/05/04/htc-legend-coming-to-atandt-according-to-fcc/ , but never.
I'm sorry, but can you try telling us what you did to try and resolve this issue? Most importantly, what interactions did you do with any Icelandic carrier to reproduce the problem? Posting any error massages (EDIT: messages*), or more stories about what you tried to do would definitely help.
Nevertheless, I'm going to try and dissect a problem from your post. You want to activate HTC's Wi-Fi Hotspot. You can't get any updates for the phone. Put those two issues together and you end up with Android 2.1 Eclair. I want you to confirm for me that you have that (Home > MENU > Settings > About Phone). Because if you do, and if I remember correctly, back when we had the Legend on 2.1, and were harassing violently HTC for a Froyo update, we never had Wi-Fi Hotspot functionality unless we rooted.
That's all I can gather from the information provided.
Do me a favour, check at your phone's box and tell me what model your Legend is. Is it A6366, A6363, or A6365? If it's A6366, you have an HTC Aria, not a Legend, and it's a phone NEAR-IDENTICAL to the Legend that was sold down south in the United States on AT&T.
I also have another ridiculous AT&T theory. See, Americans down there sometimes refer to AT&T as Ma Bell or whatever. Bell, (Ignoring the "Ma") could stand for Bell Canada, the carrier IN THE COUNTRY BORDERING THE UNITED STATES that actually carried the HTC Legend. Yeah, it's ridiculous, but who knows? Your Amazon dealer, I'm sceptical of his service now.
Lastly, I'd just love for you to know that whether that phone came originally from Bell in Canada, or AT&T in the States, it won't work on Iceland's 3G bands. Even if you manage to resolve this issue, you won't be able to run on 3G networks. Only the newer HTC devices (starting with Sensation, I believe) are able to run all 3G frequencies around the world (except the Canadian + American AWS bands, only the HTC Amaze can do that). So if you ever manage to get Wi-Fi Hotspot running, you may only use it on 2G EDGE or GPRS, which is painfully slow to browse the internet. You could probably ad-hoc with your Transformer or something, but that's beyond my help.
Good luck!
Love, Bryan from Canada

HTC Inspire
Hi. For some reason my reply seems to have gotten lost. I will repeat.
In the interest of simplicity I called the phone mine, it is my wife's so I do not have it with me. You are absolutely right, this is not HTC Legend, it is HTC Inspire. The OS is version 2.2.2 (I am more or less sure) and because of no AT&T account none of the software that came with it can be updated. The phone does have the WiFi hotspot option but when I select it the phone complains that I must have AT&T data plan and leaves it at that. It does switch the WiFi off even if it can't activate the Hotspot. So, the option is there but she can't use it to connect her Transformer to the net. This is a really strange shortcoming. Why would AT&T care about what plan she has? Without the Data Plan she would just have to pay dearly. That would just be her desicion.
We have done nothing to get the phone to work. It connects to Icelandic carriers without a problem (yes, 3G as well) and without errors of any kind. I did assume the phone was locked when I turned it on for the first time and purchased an unlock code. That code I never used since there was not unlocking required.
I am not sure what you mean by "trolling".
Thanks,
Ólafur
Ok considering your situation you should root it. The process is very simple. It's a one click root.

Here's a video to help: http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&sour...m6DWCA&usg=AFQjCNEDETg2nq8rDBQWfKvlh9APF40fiw
It will root, unlock, install clockwork mod recovery, and superuser.
After that flash a rom. I will say I use the Rom called "Android Revolution HD 6.3.1" and can hotspot when ever I want, even without the AT&T account.
Video for that is here: http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&sour...4dTCCA&usg=AFQjCNE6rGAT6Z8pN9omO8UshYbzAup5cQ
As always I take no responsibility if you brick your device, or if you damage your device in anyway. Hope I helped.
HTC Inspire.
Thank you very much. I will root the phone.

Just a FYI for the hotspot to to work you will need a new Rom. But as I stated in my post above, I use Android Revolution HD. It's a very good Rom. Please if I helped, hit the thanks button.

Yes, avoid any ATT branding with any new ROM you choose. For future reference, use the dedicated HTC Inspire/Desire HD forums here on XDA to assist others, assist in development, or seek assistance.

Ok,... a NOOB question.. (ok.. three questions) (and yes, I have looked around, and I did not see answers to my question… or i was too dim to understand it….. :/ )
Question 1)
I switched from AT&T to T-Mobile. my Note 3 is is unlocked, and rooted.
This is probably a silly question, but When I look at “ROMS” and “MODS” for my phone, should I be looking for an “AT&T “ phone? or a T-MOBILE” ?? is there any actual HARDWARE difference?
I have a SM-N900A (branded AT&T) … does that mean I can not use ROMS that are for the T-Mobile note 3s? or do I have to only use ROMS that are for the AT&T note 3?
Should I just sell my AT&T note 3, and buy a T-Mobile Note 3 ??
I would like to get rid of the AT&T bloatware… especially since I am no longer on their network.
I am not trying to go over the top with my phone, and I would like to be able keep the s-pen features (but I have to admit, I still need to LEARN how to use it better!)
Question 2)
I just tried to use my hotspot on my Note3, and I am gettingan "invalad sim" error...
I am guessing that I do nto have enough of the AT&T stuff out of it?
Question 3)
Another “feature” that I would like, (maybe a second question/thread?) if about tethering.. I have unlimited data on my phone, but as I understand it, they will only allow 2gigs as a hotspot. I think I read somewhere that some ROMS combine the two…
Thank you for any advice…
Danny
Okay, I can help you with a few of your questions...
Q1. Since your phone (the service provider doesn't matter, the hardware does) is ATT, you will need to get your Roms and such from the ATT area.
ATT, in all their ridiculous glory, locked the bootloader on our phones, and thus we have to SafeStrap in order to use roms.
It's a little wonky, but it's almost as good. Our development is growing and more roms are getting ported over every day.
But if you want more control over your device and can afford it, I would personally recommend to switch to a TMo device.
As for removing bloatware, most of the roms are pre slimmed, and you can fix the rest by freezing apps with TiBu. And you can still do that without losing the TouchWiz and SPen functions.
Q2. The Invalid sim issue is likely because you have a TMo sim card in ATT software. There's a Tether Provisioning app that can be frozen to prevent that.
Q3. I'm not too sure how TMo handles it's Tethering monitoring. You'll have to ask that in the TMo note forum.
I hope I could help you at all. =D

I have decided to buy myself a T-Mobile Note 3, and sell my AT&T version...
I had rooted my (using Kingo) about a month ago, to fix the GPS driver problem... But that was ALL I did, after rooting it... and I think this week, AT&T sent out an update (mandatory... cause I never saw it!)... which not only broke my "root" ... but broke my GPS again as well.
So now I say good bye to my brand new, with the EXTRA insuarance plan from Best Buy phone, and start looking for a used Note 3 that is not bootloader locked
AVOID AT&T
