The camera button on my girlfriend's droid x no longer works. It registers that is being held down (like with focus), but it doesnt register the button click.
This is not a huge issue for her, however, it becomes an issue if I want to work in recovery. My questions are as follows:
1) is this fixable or is this a hardware issue?
2) can I send commands to clockwork through adb?
3) If its unfixable and I can't send commands through adb, is it at all possible to flash a zip without using the camera button? (i'd either want to update to Liberty 2.0 or flash maderstcok.zip to return to stock and replace at verizon).
I would appreciate any help.

Hi,
I know I'm new but hear me out
I own an HTC Wildfire and I'm trying to root it so I can update to either Froyo or Gingerbread, but the problem is I'm unable to use the Unrevoked method because my volume buttons are broken and they are required to make selections on the boot loader screen. Could someone tell me if there is any way in which I can root my phone and load a custom ROM onto it without needing the volume buttons to work? I can't seem to be able to fix them so I have no other alternative
Many thanks in advance!
Jack.
I am really not aware of any alternative. The Volume and the Power Key is required on the HBOOT Menu, because, apart from these 2 keys, no other keystroke is recognized on that menu.
Try trackpad and power.

Hmm.. wildfire hasn't been out for too long maybe you're under warranty and can get it fixed.
I think when I rooted my wildfire all I need was the Android driver and do the volume and power then connected to the pc to get the usb recovery and unrevoked did the rest.
Edit: have tried the trackpad and power and it does work taking you to fastboot and bootloader is available from there. So you're saved. Credit to previous post ^.

My problem isn't that I can't get onto the bootloader menu, it automatically loads when I plug it in with unrevoked. My problem is that I can't select recovery when the bootloader menu actually loads because I'm unable to use the volume keys in order to scroll down to it. So unless I'm missing something that you've told me, that doesn't solve my problem :\
EDIT: Okay, my phone is rooted now, the problem now is that I cannot select recovery in order to flash a custom ROM because I cannot scroll down to it. Any advice?
Get ROM Manager and use it's "Restart in Recovery" Feature?
You dont need the volume buttons in the recovery.you can use the track pad in the recovery. But the volume keys are needed in the hboot menu to select recovery l. I think there is no alternative. If your phone is still under warranty I recommend you flash a ruu. And give it for repair. Dont forget to tell them not to update your phone to froyo. I think you know the reason

I got ROM manager and I'm now running Cyanogen 6.1.0, I'm just having problems with the market app now. I've installed Gapps and whenever I open the market it just closes straight away. I'll try and fix it myself but if anyone can offer help than that'd be cool!
Check Sympnotic's Patched Market Thread, Try Removing the Market using the Market Remover and install again.

So I've done a search and haven't found anything, so here is the low down.
I'm trying to SBF my old Droid 2 back to 2.3.20 so I can install GB. Problem is, the power button is shot, so I'm not sure if I can boot into the stock recovery after I SBF to wipe.
ADB does not recognize my device in Bootloader. Is there any way to either A: Get adb to recognize it in bootloader, or B: Boot into recovery without the power button?
Thanks in advance.
* I can't believe I didn't think of it before... just had to plug the phone in and hold x on the keyboard...

I have a huge problem...
My milestone 2 went through some water hazard and it had a falty display, so I replaced the display and after that I did a SBF flash to return to original firmware, and to conclude this action I need to access the Recovery Menu, but it seems that my keyboard has some falty keys, including the X one...
There is any way to access recovery menu via bootloader mode, usb, any other button combination to access the Recovery Menu?
Thanks!
Yeah...I have the same problem, and I have bad news. Only way I know is to buy a new keyboard
Anyone know of a custom rom for the Nexus7 (grouper) that removes the built-in android feature to enable safe mode via volume down key?
Reason: I have a nexus 7 with a broken volume down key.
Therefore it always boots into fastboot, and then then on start, boots into safe mode.
Steps taken to rectify button problem:
1. I have already replaced the Power & Volume Button Cable and it did not fix it. I am assuming that it is a mainboard issue.
2. I have also re-flashed 4.4.2 (KOT49H) factory image, just in case something was stuck.
So I was thinking if it could be solved via software (custom rom), by either disabling safe boot entirely or remapping keys early enough in the boot sequence.
Seems a shame for this thing to be almost useless (no 3rd party apps) just because of a broken volume button.
Any ideas would be much appreciated.

BUMP: I am having the exact same problem. I also replaced the volume button cable and that didn't solve it.
Hystrix0 did you ever solve this issue?
Nope, dhowell1, I did not.
I had to tell my sister she can use it for.... browsing the web? It's almost useless.
