I am desperate to get a good android tablet asap I have looked at the vast majority of the tablets available but there isn't any I can actually get hold of in the uk nowhere has any except the expensive ones. Can anybody recommend a good one that is actually available to get.
It has to have or be capable of running android 2.2 so I have full flash support and wifi and must be under 300 pound.
Thanks

Well I grabbed 3 G-Tabs while over in the US on a business trip recently. You would have been welcome to have one or on fact all three of them, except for the fact that people like Roebeet, GoJimi et al, have turned what was a lump of "stuff" into a highly usable competitor to the iPAD. I know Sears wont let you pay with a UK CC, but I think Staples and Office Depot are now stocking them as well (and may well accept international CC's) price ranges from $379 to $399. I'm not due out there until Feb again so unless you want to wait I cant help sorry. I havent seen them anywhere in the UK.

Yep, and given that for $741 USD you can get it in Switzerland/Germany, there's no way I'm forking out over $800 for it.
Seems that in the netherlands they list it for €590 (us$815)
I always hate it when a device is more expensive in specific regions
mobicity and smoothmobiles.com.au both have them now.
mobicity- $899
smoothmobiles- $895
im not sure whether to get one or not, its a extremly hefty price. i was planning on getting a normal galaxy S again, ( other died, no warranty cause i bought it 2nd hand and the owner is not here no more ) so i was going to get a brand new one
not sure what to do now.
Yeah, I'm gonna have to buy one me thinks - I'm addicted to my SGS and an upgrade will be awesome
Techrific has it for $889

Big bump.
So the Australian release will be around June, you guys going to get it now or what?
If its on the Optus $59 I will, if its on the $79 its too much imo, I'd rather get the Arc
I'm selling my iPhone 4 and will just buy it outright from uk, Australia is just such a ripp off.
I'm half way through my contract with optus so, I sell my iPhone for $700 and the gs2 was $724 so for $24 dollars I have upgraded. to top it of when my contract runs out I'll get the sgs3 lol yayyyyyy
Yeah replacing my Atrix with my SG2 which will hopefully be here by Friday. Ordered from Handtec as i didn't wanna get ripped off by Aus online resellers lol
Hey guys, who's getting their SGSII from where?
How much did/will it cost you (in AU$)
Is it NextG?
Which processor?
NFC?
Anyone here ordered a UK versrion of the sgs2? I take it ill have to get an adapter for the charger considering the sockets are different?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA Premium App
I bought from Mobicity, $900 (yay for disposable income). It says NextG compatible, no NFC and with the Samsung CPU (not NVIDIA Tegra 2)
hmmm.... I might get one from expansys.... will probably wait until next week and scope out a few other places as well.
I was upset that it won't have NFC because I believe NFC will become common use in everyday life sometime soon.... but after a bit of research I think NFC will be more commonly built into sim cards instead of phones themselves, so it's not so much an issue for me now. Also it's probably not going to hit mainstream until after the London Olympics by which time I'll have a new phone anyway.
handtec, price was AUD $700, i don't care about NFC, it is gonna be switched off constantly anyways, don't think it will get popular soon
Where to buy
Hey guys,
I've been doing some research on where to buy, I'm listing them in cost order, cheapest first. If I've missed out on a site, let me know.
If there is any reason why you wouldn't buy from the cheapest, please let me know.
I've never bought a phone online before and I'm kinda anxious about it.
I've gone as far in the checkout as I can, and prices include shipping to Melbourne, the cheapest option (no more than 7 working days).
Not VAT. Is that correct?
Currency conversions using Google on 4/05.
Unlocked Mobiles £435 $663
Handtec £456 $695
Clove £464 $707
Expansys $720
Mobiciti$914
Smooth Mobiles $924
So the cheapest is from Unlocked Mobiles, and the cheapest Australian store is Expansys.
Which store are you going to buy from, and why?
!!!!!!! I had it all nicely formatted, and the name of each site was a direct link to that website's listing for the SGSII.
But I can't post links.
Spent ages typing it up too...
my DHL online tracking still says Departed Facility in LONDON-HEATHROW - UK, same as 30 hrs ago... hm..... hope i can get it tomorrow

I can't afford to buy outright just now, so I am waiting patiently for it to be released so I can grab it on my plan with Optus! Waiting, Waiting, WAITING!
Pfffffttt ... what the!
I've been keeping an eye on Amazon UK and Play UK for the Galaxy tab, well Play now have a price and release date for the 16GB version ..... are you sitting down?
£899.99 Free delivery Due for release on 04 July 2011.
Edit: The spec isn't right either.
899 GBP for 16GB???? !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
No way ... too damn expensive ...
They are either mistaken or they're taking the piss, Amazon.de are advertising it at EUR 637,98, that's about £563.
I've just emailed Play.com asking why the price is so high and they've just responded with:-
Dear Customer,
We are pleased to inform you that 'Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 / Dual Core 1GHz / 16GB / 10.1 inch Touch Screen / Android 3.0 Honeycomb / Tablet' is now available to order. Click on the link below to pre-order now!

At that rate it would be better to order from Amazon.de although Amazon UK may announce a price soon? What are the implications of buying a German unit, it is just classed as a European unit, warranty wise etc?
Yes,
in this regard EU is treated as one so id does not really matter where you buy.
The only difference might be a posting cost.
I have bought stuff from Pixmania (FR) when I was living in the UK with delivery to Poland. (no problems). I have just bought (now being in Poland) Sapphire Xtreme HD 5850 - also no problem.
So... if amazon.de is first to send them away you do not risk anything.
In the past I bought Vaio form Sony Outlet in Holland - fine as well.
Having that in mind... I wonder if Apple isn't breaking the law (EU law) by offering only 12 months of warranty???
As far as I know all manufacturers selling their products in EU are supposed to offer 2 yr. warranty at minimum (no less).
And again on a different note... I am quite grateful for EU being regarded by manufacturers as one country/market. In the past we would wait ages in separate countries for lunch of devices, prices, updates, etc... it is without a doubt better than before we were all completely separate.
I called Play.com and they are looking into it to see if it is a pricing error. They will email me when they know more.
In the mean time, we need to find the best place to get this device in the UK, even if that means ordering from elsewhere in Europe.
I will let you know ass soon as they are available in PL. With Polish Zloty loosing ground because of Greece it might actually work out cheaper for you .
At the moment you are looking at approx. 625 EURO (predicted price, dont know about delivery).
Another issue is, although Samsung will honor warranty in Europe, if the product is faulty when it arrives I will need to send it back to the retailer and they might be abroad. Postage and a language barrier might cause some hassle.

That was my concern with getting stuff from USA (Motorola does not have a worldwide warranty and again - if you buy in USA, you only have 12 months ).
With buy in in EU it is not a problem - buy in Poland, UK, Greece - and you can get it repaired or exchanged through your local representative/service/etc.
It is very nice that it works this way.

Actually I think that was just an automated email as I'd signed up to be notified of availability, it can't be the response to my WTF email re the price on their site.
Folks, thanks for your input ref European warranty.
Thanks for the heads-up up on that, but that price must be a provisional one, much as happened with the initial pricing of the GS 2, which saw its price gradually drop down as its release approached to a much more reasonable level.
I have had my "hands on" today with Transformer.
As I treat this as "tablet for a while" I also want to be able to sell it easily in future and loose as little as possible.
SG 10.1 as much as it is sexy is too limited.
My choice will be Transformer 16GB + keyboard dock - and than I will wait for Kal-El or something else (light, with sd slot that plays mkv and other formats and has sexy look and great batt. life) - this will keep me going for a while.
At the moment I am only thinking... buy now (and use netbook as well) or wait till netflix app will show up as it should have a better price by that time... (I hope non of you think it - netflix app - will not show up).

You're most likely right about it being a provisional price, but what happens if a buyer orders it at the over inflated price and it then reduces by say £300, would they get it at the reduced price?
I'm weary of Play, they tried to pull a fast one on me a few months ago.

If I recall correctly Play don't charge your card until the item is ready to post. I've found they are rubbish when emailing, so I just call them and they are fine on the phone.

The model on Play has the 10.1v specs, not the 10.1 specs -- be careful.

Yes that's what I did with the Transformer, I do prefer to be able to walk in and get it sorted straight away.
Called up Play.com and now they are looking into the specifications.
It probably didn't help that I got pissed off at the guy because he was giving me generic answers, so when he asked me how I knew their website was wrong I said I work in the IT sector and carry out the necessary research rather than spend all day talking to customers in a monotone and boring voice.
A galaxy tab for a down to earth price...
When the Transformer wasn't widely available, Carphone Warehouse had it. I ordered and it came the next day. I returned it to my local CPW (because of a screen gap), they refunded my card straight away.
Thinking about it though, the Galaxy Tab is expensive compared to the $499 that the US is being charged...so tempted to order it from Amazon.com using viaddress. I haven't used them before, but I'm thinking worst case scenario, I have to pay import duty so that'd put it near the price of Amazon.de - but if it works out, I could get one for about £350. Either way i'd probably get it in a week...
If you've been following recent Motorola Xoom developments, you'll know that the first "Google Experience" tablet has just been updated to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Alongside the update, Carphone Warehouse, one of the main sellers of Xooms in the UK, has cut the price of the Wifi-only model to £249.99. This is a £50 drop from the earlier RRP of £299.99, and the latest in a long line of Xoom price drops which has seen the tablet gradually fall from the July price of £399.
It might not be as sleek as the Galaxy Tab 10.1, or as fast as the ASUS Transformer Prime, but £250 for a 10-inch, dual-core ICS tablet isn't a bad deal at all if you ask us. UK readers, would you be tempted to drop £250 on a Xoom at this point? Be sure to let us know in the comments.

So from a perspective buyer to those who own the Xoom, is it still a worthy purchase compared to newer tablets? I've been wanting to get a 10" tablet but they either lack the dev scene or hit the wallet pretty hard but the Xoom is well supported and at this price seems to be a steal. I did hear about lag/performance issues early on but has this been ironed out? Thanks

ICS for me has fixed all the niggles of honeycomb, its still not perfect but the DEV scene has now gone massive with ICS builds so it wont be long.
Personally I still feel the XOOM is the best made of the tablets, I love the fact that out of all the tablets you can now buy, it still has the smallest bezel which for me is a winner.
Great price for a good tab but the question is when will the uk get the ics update..
Hi, I picked my Xoom up from Argos for £220 and that was before Christmas.
Also had a nice case from Amazon for £10, fits a treat and tablet performs great. J ust waiting now for OTA update to ICS and job done.
Bargain for sure
This is a bargain, ICS is great, no need to wait for the OTA, goto the US version of 3.2.1 and await the push

Ordered mine last week, should be with me tomorrow hopefully. While there may be newer tablets on the market at the moment, the price of the xoom and the incredible support being offered on this forum make the xoom the clear choice.
My sister just got one from carphone warehouse, she had been looking at one for a while, she just wants it for reading stuff online, so tegra 2 more than powerful enough for her. At £250 with ICS on its way it's too good to leave. If I didn't have the eee pad transformer and hp touchpad I would have considered getting one to play with

Hello all, been looking at prices for while, just noticed that www.amazon.de have dropped the price of the blue Note to €507, which according to ww.xe.com is 423 pounds ( im using an american macbook and cant figure out how to do the pound sterling sign). I ordered one few nights ago at €529, but last night it was €568, price keeps varying. A lot of the reviews on the amazon.co.uk website state that they have bought it from www.amazon.de with no hassle.
Just thought you guys might like to know.
the price has been fluctuating quite a bit due to supply and demand

I also saw the new price on amazon.de. Very exciting. I finally am getting the cash to buy mine and I'll get mine from there if the price doesn't change to much.
Also, the £ sign on Windows is hold alt + 0163 and then let go of alt.
On mac it is apparently alt/option 3.
I also have a US keyboard in the UK. I prefer the layout in general and just use the alt trick to get the £ when I need it.
Your Note will come straight from Amazon.de. Even recently open spanish store Amazon.es gets their Notes from germany warehouse (they actually warn "imported from germany").
The same with Galaxy S2 that bought a month ago for a friend. You buy on spanish store and it comes from wherever it suits them (france, UK, germany).
About the price, it seems lije "A day at Stock Change". The prices go wildly up and down as low as 525 and as high as 650. Different prices the same day on different EU stores, so you must keep an eye.
