Please help!!!! - G2 and Desire Z General

Sorry, if my title is a bit loud but I need some serious help with my G2. Now I'm not new to Android or rooting in general but I'm no expert either. I had the G1 since around launch and rooted it several times successfully, and even installed some ROMS on it and done the same on other Android devices for my friends. I decided to finally give my G2 the same treatment. I tried to do permroot with Visionary and after a minute or so, my phone restarted. However, it is stuck on the green and white HTC boot screen. I tried a factory reset with the power and volume down button but that didn't work as well. I am currently sitting here as I type looking at my paperweight G2. Please, what do I do to get this thing back to normal? Thanks.

Do some research before you root. A lot of people have problems with visionary and there are hundreds of discussions that warn against using visionary for perm root.
Do a search, there's plenty of threads for reparing a soft brick.

Sadly, I thought I did enough research but I was wrong. The damage is done and I was just to return this thing back to normal. Root or no root, I don't care for now. I you can link me to one of these threads you talk about, that would be great.

Here's the guide from the Dev section for recovering a semi-brick.

Just do a search within the g2 forums for "soft brick" you should find something fairly quick. You can throw "visionary" into that search, too, to narrow it down.
Edit: nevermind someone nice found it for you.
And I've rooted two G2's using the visionary(temp root) and gfree method which only takes about five minutes and doesn't need adb. It's reliable, you can see all the steps (so if something goes wrong you know exactly what), and if something does go wrong, you just try again. I highly recommend this method.

Here's a link to the HTC Vision wiki with instructions on rooting with G Free (the method I used on my own G2)- http://forum.xda-developers.com/wik...sion#Rooting_the_Vision_.28G2.2FDZ.29_and_DHD
This one uses a combination of Visionary and GFree and doesn't require the use of ADB. - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=834731

I think the user above meant this link for the guide to rooting and S-OFF wthout ADB...

I tried that and it didn't work. This is really frustrating. Anybody here that knows how to recover from a soft boot that can guide me one on one?? Please.

The subject isn't overly loud. But it is useless. A big portion of the posts on here are by people seeking help. So titling it with more specific information on what you want help with is more appropriate.

I think you're going to have to be MUCH more specific. There a MANY different if/then suggestions in the guide. Which did you try? Do you have ADB installed on your desktop computer? Can you get into shell?

Thank you for the response. I have been refreshing over and over waiting for one. I tried to use ADB but I don't have ADB installed on my computer so that didn't work. I also tried a "Fastboot" but that didn't work as well. Basically, all I can do right now is just the "Power + Vol Down" and it takes me to the "multicolor" menu.
If it's of any help, here is what it says:
VISION PUT SHIP S-ON

<Vol Down> to next item
<Power> to select item
FASTBOOT (in color dark green)

I'm just stating the above details in case they're of any help? Thanks.

Yea... you don't use the visionary prem root until you have s-off. Wish you get out of the semi brick friend.

Yes. I have been searching and searching the whole night (I haven't slept ) and this is the same thing I keep coming across. I really wish I knew all about this BEFORE I clicked on permroot and I really attribute this to my thoughts that Visionary was actually a good way to go. But I really just want to get my phone back to stock state (the way it was).

bump....... -_-;

Not sure if this will be feesable, but if you got it with Tmobile, why not try to get it replaced claiming it doesn't boot (since it really doesn't) and see what they say.
Will do some research for you as well and get back to you as I am at work now.

Hi !
Try flashing the stock rom again.
Get the PC10IMG_Vision_TMOUS_1.19.531.1_Radio_12.21.60.09b_26.02.01.15_M2_release_149459_signed.zip from http://shipped-roms.com/index.php?category=android&model=Vision
Put it on the root of the sdcard (using an card reader) and rename it to PC10IMG.zip
Make sure that the phone is fully charged when you start this because in hboot mode (the "multicolor" menu as you call it) it will not charge and you should not run out of power while reflashing the stock rom.
Do the "Power + Vol Down" boot that takes you to the "multicolor" menu.
It will boot into the blue mode and after a second it will start to scan for a file called PC10IMG.zip.
It will load the file and ask you if you want to install it. Select yes.
During the install the screen will go blank for some seconds -> don't panic.
If you receive an error about the main version then we need to find a different way. In this case try to find me or someone else on the #G2ROOT irc channel on freenode.
Hope you make it - have fun - Guhl

Yes I used this method to root two different g2s some day and a half ago. the first g2 it took in only one root attempt, the second took two.

Hey, Guhl. I downloaded the file and put it on my card but after loading it, it gave me the main version error :
Main Version is older!
Update Fail!
Press <POWER> to reboot.
What do I do next? I'm guessing that file is out of date or something?

No the file is not out of date, but your phone has the OTA 1.22 version applied and therefore we need to downgrade your version in the misc_partition 17.
I wrote a utility called misc_version that is normally used for this but to be able to use this we would have to be able to boot your phone.
I would really invite you to try to find me at on IRC channel #G2ROOT on the freenode network where we could try to find a solution. I am mostly there at evenings/nights and my timezone is currently UTC+2.

( GUIDE ) Custom SPLASH1 on CDMA Desire.

I'M BEING VERY CLEAR HERE-THIS IS FOR CDMA DESIRE ONLY, NOT GSM!!!
You have to be S-OFF to do this.
Because the CDMA desire does not have extended fastboot yet, this is the only way to change the ( white with green HTC ) screen to a custom splash1 ( anything you want ) screen.
Giving credit where its due, I'd like to thank:
Team unrevoked for S_OFF
MRE-net for his guide with the .img converter tool and half of his how to that I was able to use, I will put his link in here.
ipfreelytech for his encouragement and unknowingly pointing me in a direction that made sense.
The only part I played in this is bringing these together and finding the right way to create the .txt file.
If I missed anyone, feel free to point it out.
I'm going to make this quick and simple but explain in detail so no one should have a problem but not to where you have zero legwork yourself; it took me 3 weeks to figure this out.
Requirements: my android-info.txt file
MRE-net's nbimg coverter tool
And whatever flavor archiver tool to make the .zip
Download this-[URL=http://www.4shared.com/document/ymcXsiz-/android-info.html]android-info.txt[/URL]
Go to this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=795132,
download NBIMG command-line splash<-->image converter tool for your platform, read how to use the nbimg tool in command prompt ( extremely easy ). Read his how to thoroughly but PAY NO ATTENTION TO THE FASTBOOT PORTION!!!!!!!!!! Basically don't bother past #8.
Now, after you have converted it with nbimg tool, you want to zip up the android-info.txt and the splash1.img you created together and name it PB99IMG.zip ( exactly how I have it underlined ) and place it on the root of your sdcard. Reboot into booloader ( which on my phone the screen goes straight to fastboot ) the fastboot screen has the word FASTBOOT highlighted in RED, and below it a little, BOOTLOADER is highlighted in BLUE. If thats what you see then hit the power button once and you should see HBOOT highlighted in BLUE under the phone info. Give it a few seconds ( 10-15 ) and you should see this:
Parsing...(SD ZIP)
(1) SPLASH1
Do you want to start update?
<VOL UP> Yes
<VOL DOWN> No
You want to hit vol up obviously and when you do it happens very quick, almost instant and then hit vol up again to reboot and BAM, you should see your new SPLASH!!!!!!
Now for those who this didn't work for, its NOT the .txt file. More than likely its a bad archive or you didn't do the image right, so I don't want a lot of negative feedback because people can't figure it out. I have changed mine a couple times before I wrote this up, WORKS GREAT!!!!!!!!!
Note: If your baseband differs from the mainver: in the .txt file then edit it to what yours is before you make the .zip or it wont work.
ENJOY GUYS!!!!!!!!!!!
why this long and complicated way?
can you not just convert it to img and then do
fastboot flash splash imagename.img ?
also there is a one click tool that will convert 24bit bmp to image and auto flash your device here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=794638
i thought this worked on both gsm and cdma desires with s-off
EDIT: can you use extended fastboot commands with cdma unrevoked s-off?

Currently the CDMA Desire does not have extended fastboot commands, despite having s-off. The Alpharev team is working on getting it working so this is our only method available for now
It totally works! Thanks lohp75 for doubting me when I said it couldn't be done lol
Like I said bud, doubt creates possibilities .

You guys are very welcome :+). Its good that I am able to contribute back to the community instead of being a full time mooch . And like I said in the post, I detailed it so everyone should understand how to do it, but it will be so much easier when extended fastboot comes available to us!

Ok I have followed this guide exactly.. I have done and re done the picture in Photoshop, tried converting it with several file converters, and they all get the same result...
That is the file I made.. I changed the baseband to coinside with my device (US Cellular HTC Desire)..
And it completely refuses to flash the zip. There are some error messages that pop up VERY quick, what I can see, says no image in zip.. but its there... converted with the tool...
Any ideas???
Well bud, the only problem I saw with it is you must not be s-off. If that's the case then go to unrevoked.com and get what you need for your phone. I looked in your zip and for ****s and giggles flashed it to my phone and it worked as smoothly as mine does. Of course I had to flash back to mine. So your zip is good.

Yes its S-Off.... I have Cyanogen Mod on it... I can do everything else except change the boot splash...... I am at a loss why it's not working for me.... Followed the guide exactly...

Everything seems right and correct... Oh well... I give up...
Does it give you the option to update, or does it flash a bunch of crap real quick then back to hboot? Maybe try and redownload my original. txt file and don't modify it at all, zip it up and try again. I was able to flash yours without changing the mainver: surprisingly.
And the unrevoked that you did was through recovery right?

yes it does exactly that.. flashes up a bunch of crap real quick then back to HBoot.. And yes I applied the Unrevoked forever with recovery too (which told me I already had S-OFF). I have also tried it with your original text file (which is why I edited the baseband as I thought that was the issue)..
Its pretty odd that it doesnt work at all.... its got me totally scratching my head atm.... Im gonna try a couple of other things, but I think I wont be able to do it until the next release of Unrevoked that allows the Fastboot stuff like the GSM Desire...
EDIT:: Just tried removing all zips from the root of the SDCard and only have the PM99IMG.zip there.. Still the same result...
Ok, when I first started to play with this I got the same thing. I uploaded the zip to ipfreely who then told me it was corrupt, if he couldn't open it then phone can't right. So the next night I stopped using my windows environment and went back to using the mac osx archiver and tried it again. This time it showed flash errors, that told me the zip was good but info bad. So now I strictly use my mac and that's also where my cs5 is at.
Point being don't give up. Two more suggestions, try a different archiver, and as stupid as it sounds download your zip attachment from your post straight to your phone, again sounds stupid but exhaust all possibilities!

To be honest, thinking about it, if it was the archiver I was using then it should not have worked (my archive) on your phone either. The fact that it did, says its nothing to do with the Archiver otherwise you would have had the same result as me....

I know I had an issue the first time around because I named the file PB99IMG.zip which really made it PB99IMG.zip.zip and it didn't show up. Probably not your issue but just a thought. Maybe you'd like to post the image, your baseband version, and we can make a file, test flash it and repost it for you to verify it works. Then, if it still doesn't work, we know it is your phone and possibly an issue with s-off that you may have to alert the unrevoked folks to. Try mounting /system to rw while booted and see if that works. That would be an indicator whether s-off is truly working.

I am currently stuck at the 2nd boot logo (after Rogers logo, HTC Magic is displayed and never proceeds). I had just finished a successful flash from 1.5 via RUU_Sapphire_Rogers_WWE_3.05.631.7_R_release_signe d_nodriver.
Then, as soon as I setup my WiFi, I was prompted to install yet another update. Dopey me, I said yes. It seemed to go okay for a while then, after one of the reboots, it stopped at a screen that showed a box with an arrow coming out of it and a progress bar below it. After going about 3/4ths of the way over, it stopped. I let it sit for 20min or so then tried to restart. Triangle with exclamation mark screen.
I can however boot into either Recover or fastboot.
I tried to run the RUU again but it times out waiting for the USB to response.
When i boot into Android System Recovery utility, I immediately see "E: Can't open /cache/recovery/command"
Selecting wipe data/factory reset gives no errors but doesn't get me any farther
Selecting apply sdcard:update.zip results in...
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
E:no signature (10 Files)
E: verification failed
Installation Aborted.
I'm pretty sure I'm not bricked yet but I am also pretty sure I don't know where to go from here to avoid bricking the phone completely.
Could someone please point me to the thread to resolve these issues and get back to a working state? I have a valid Paypal account and will gladly send beer money once success is acheived.
Thanks in advance.
You should make your own thread. Make a new thread and I'll help you there. Are you trying to stay stock or are you willing to root?

Well you still didn't answer my question. Are you trying to stay stock or are you willing to root?
Right at the bottom... "Yes, i am okay with rooting "
Alright so what we'll do is grab the file that the RUU is flashing for you from the RUU, put it on your phone, and manually reflash it. Then you now know not to do the update and can just root it. Give me a few minutes please.
As a side note, I missed you saying you wanted to root at the bottom, I apologize.

No worries, I'm all ears and gratitude.
It was either RUU_Sapphire_Rogers_WWE_2.17.631.2_release_signed_NoDriver or
RUU_Sapphire_Rogers_WWE_3.05.631.7_R_release_signed_NoDriver
I am 99% positive it was 3.05.631.7_R because I only have 2 and the first one kept giving me a signature error after downloading to the device.
Alright, if it was the 3.05.631.7 RUU, then slap this file onto your SD card, turn the phone off, boot holding (volume down+power) and follow the on-screen directions. When it's done you should be back to 1.5 and be able to boot into the phone. Then you can follow mumilover's guide to root and install a custom recovery from here. This won't get you a custom ROM, but after installing the recovery, you can find a ROM and flash it from there.

or just copy it from my PC to the SD card as rogers-Rom1.zip?
Copy file from PC to SD card [Done]
Put SD in Phone [Done]
boot holding (volume down+power)
Follow on-screen directions
Then you can follow mumilover's guide to root and install a custom recovery from here. This won't get you a custom ROM, but after installing the recovery, you can find a ROM and flash it from there.

Once I am back to 1.5, can I re-run the RUU that I got from Rogers to get their 2.1 (and not accept the subsequent OTA that started this whole thing)?
While I was sitting here, I downloaded the Rootools.rar from the thread you suggested. My AV when bonkers saying it's a trojan. IS that expected because it is going to root the phone (and i can ignore the AV)?
or should I try another mirror and get rid of this first effort?
Copied file to SD
Boot with Vol Down + Power
Phone goes into HBoot
Release keys
A bunch of stuff happens but whips by so quickly I can't read it.
Back to HBoot
Restart Phone
Still stuck at "htc MAGIC" screen
Crap sorry. You need to rename the file to SAPPIMG.ZIP
Sent from my LG-P500 using Tapatalk
The exploit was probably what got flagged by your AV. Nothing to worry about, its just that the exploit started getting used in the market by some dude for malicious purposes so now all the AV providers are flagging it.

Is it normal that if I try to look at the contents of the sappimg.zip file that it says the "file is invalid"?
I've downloaded it twice now and both files do the same.

touch screen not working

Hey guys, a few days ago I finally decided to root my phone and flash cynagen mod 7...
However yesterday evening my touch screen suddenly stopped working, so I can't unlock my phone...
its still showing screen but its not responding when I press anything...
Things ive tried: removing battery for 20 sec, removing battery to turn off the phone and start it up again.
Is it possible to fix this?
or does anyone have the stock Vodafone firmware so I can try flashing it and return it for warranty?
Try reflashing the Rom from recovery again maybe that will help, I think I saw a thread on here about a fix for that problem a few months ago but not sure as I never needed it so didn't read it.

You mean re flashing the stock Vodafone rom?
Any place where I can find it?
Btw even clockworldmod doesn't seem to respond to my buttons(the ones below the screen)
Only the physical buttons work...
Sorry I meant try reflashing your cm7 Rom again from recovery, use the volume buttons and the trackball to navigate in clockwork.

ill give it a shot, by the way when I tried to flash with RUU it didn't detect my phone.
Also when I boot up my phone with charge cable it stops responding and only the red charging light will burn(even when the battery is full, because it did this for hours a few days ago)
Also in clockwork when I go to advanced and key test it doesn't do anything when I press a key, It doesn't show anything in the log.
So I think its really broken.
Update: reflashed with cyanogen didn't fix it
And when I try to flash with WUU it says my phone is not connected
ofc I can't access my usb settings on the phone...
The charging bug comes with clockwork, when the phone is off if you plug in the charger it happens so I always make sure to hit the power button first wait till the splash screen has gone and then plug it in, its annoying but just pop the battery out and then reboot the phone. There's a fix for that too but it didn't work for me.
As for the other problems I'm not sure as I've never come across them on my phone before, I would definitely try reflashing first before using an ruu. If that doesn't help hang fire till someone a bit smarter than me sees this.

I just tried re flashing and that didn't help, I think my screen is really broken.
Including those home, menu back and search button.

Update: sometimes my screen seems to work for a few seconds and then it doesn't again...
Depends on how I hold my phone...

Especialy by saying that last thing, one would think about a bad contact in the cable that connects your motherboard with your screen. I could be wrong, but I think the softkeys belong to the screen as well, so that would explane it. But I'm not sure about that last one.
You can try opening up your phone and see if the connection of the cable to the motherboard is still good. To open up the phone, you can folow the guide for the htc desire, it is said that they are alike.
Keep in mind that the bad connection can be IN that cable as well. So perhaps you have to look if you can buy a seperate cable somewhere (don'y know if that is possible).
I must stress out that I never opened this phone myself, so all the things I say here are based on what I've read on this forum. It just seems logic to me
One more thing: this all sounds risky. But since you are out of waranty, and since your phone doesn't work, I personally would give it a try.

As you are looking for a ROM with hboot 1.02, I assume that before rooting you had the same hboot? Because then you must have gained root using AlphaRevX/Revolutionary, which installs a custom bootloader. This hboot can, to my knowleadge, not be downgraded to the original one. In other words: you have voided your waranty and there is no way to cover it up...

Damn, will they figure this out or is their a change they are just like oh yeah the screen is broken lets fix it?
As its clearly a hardware issue and not a software issue...
Other whys ill just fix it my self or go to a phone store...
update: I tried flashing SUU but it keeps giving me a message that my phone is not connected...
But the phone store told me rooting does not void my warranty as its a hardware issue and not a software issue.. they told me they could send it for me to a special company that repairs phones and is qualified by mayor factories like HTC,Samsung, etc.
But they also told me it would be easier to just contact Vodafone for repairs as that is free and if not I could always come back.
I'd send it back to Vodafone, best case they'll switch the touchscreen power it up for a quick test then send it back, worst case is they may check your software versions... then send it back unrepaired.
I used to fix iphones and ipads for an insurance company and hardly ever had enough time for checking software, just fix it, send it out and crack on with the next one!

I already re flashed cm7, and at first it didn't help then suddenly it did help and now its doing nothing all over again...
Update: re flashed again and still nothing.
AFAIK reflashing a custom rom from a custom recovery should not solve the issue.
But reflashing a stock ROM (= RUU) should solve that. Also reflashing a stock ota update will solve that. Ota update needs to be flashed from stock recovery. Do either of these things depending on what your hboot version is (if hboot is latest then ota will be option for most times) Also remember PC49IMG method if you presently have custom recovery.
P.S : what all I said is thinking that it is software issue. this shouldn't help if it is related to hardware.

I was wondering if there was a way to flash using that method, as I said I never needed to flash an ruu yet so don't know much about em. Just saw your other post explaining how to use PC49IMG to flash an ruu. Thought i'd copy it here as it may help.
bharatgaddameedi said:
If it still had the issue, then install the RUU by pc49img method. Download the correct ruu for your phone. Donot connect phone to PC. On windows PC click on start and type %temp% and enter. This opens the user temporary folder of your PC. Now run the ruu. Now if you observe the temp folder, there will be extra folders created which have folder name enclosed in {} brackets. Search in these folders for the file ROM.zip. Copy the ROM.zip to a safe location. Now format your memory card to fat32 (must) and put the ROM.zip to the root of memory card. You should use memory card reader. Then rename the ROM.zip to PC49IMG.ZIP . Then insert memory card in phone and reboot to hboot menu from where you can update/reflash the partitions. If still not working, clear storage again from hboot menu.

Btw: is their anyway to get the original hboot back?
For maybe some more like me that want to go back to what it use to be with the hboot S-OFF, S-ON issue.
I had my phone S-OFF with alpharevx beta. Used CM7 -stable for couple days but decided i wanted to go back to all original. I first RUU my phone with the RUU_Buzz_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.22.405.1_Radio_13.55.55.2 4H_3.35.20.10_release_160191_signed.exe file. Boot it up, made sured it runs, then did what is instructed below here;
To be able to do this you need HTC USB drivers installed. Install the HTC pakage, reboot, uninstall the HTC-
Sync software, keep the drivers! reboot PC again.
Power off your phone. Plug in your USB cable to phone. Press volume down and powerup your phone. After it
settle navigate down and choose fastboot option.
1. Unpack these files to your c:\fastboot
2. Open up your windows command promt (WinVista/7 users rightclick choose run as Administrator)
3. in command promt type CD\ then press enter
4. then your should be in C:\
5. type cd fastboot
6. then you should now be in dir C:\fastboot
7. Im bored to death typing, look below. Beware of each command ends with enter. After success, reboot.
C:\fastboot>fastboot oem mb 9C068490 1 30
... OKAY
C:\fastboot>fastboot flash hboot hboot_buzz_7225_1.01.0001.nb0
sending 'hboot' (512 KB)... OKAY
writing 'hboot'... OKAY
Files needed (Windows version): megaupload.com/?d=UO9L74I9
Works perfectly for me.
* NOTE: Im not responsible for your phone if you brick/kill it. These steps worked for me!

Unlocking Xoom's bootloader

It's easier as you may think .
1st - Be sure you want it, because you will format your internal data and lose your warranty!!!
Ok then after accepting the 1st option let's continue
Download the archives on the attachment.
Unzip it on C:. Or, if you prefer: C:\
Now plug your Xoom via usb.
Wait windows install ALL drivers
Then open cmd and type:
Code:
cd C:\Xoom bootloader unlocker
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot oem unlock
Read the Caution message on Xoom (maybe in the next weeks I post it here), and to accept press vol down and then vol up. If you changed your mind while reading the Caution page (like me ), just press vol up, then softreset your tablet pressing vol up+power button and pressing for like 3-4 seconds.
I hope it helps you to unlock bootloader, as well I learned, with some facebook posts help, I wanted to share with you.
(Optional)
If you want to Root and install CWM too, follow this rules:
1st - Download this recovery image: http://api.viglink.com/api/click?fo...rs&txt=here.&jsonp=vglnk_jsonp_13180302664331
2nd - save it on C:\Xoom bootloader unlock
3rd - type on cdm:
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot flash recovery recovery-Tiamat-R4c-100611-1150-cwm.img
4th - Boot into recovery by booting the tablet (using power button + vol up), pressing vol down and vol up on Android Recovery
4.5th - To use CWM use the vol buttons to select the option and power button to enter.
5th - Then on CWM install the zip (this one http://api.viglink.com/api/click?fo... version 1.0&jsonp=vglnk_jsonp_13180304832863 remember to put it on your sd card!) from sd card (sorry you need one ).
(Ps.: A very BIG THANKS to solarnz for this root option. Remember to thank him on his post (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=17135571&posted=1#post17135571))
Cheers and Good Luck .

FWIW - I don't understand the need to start a new thread that is essentially a copy of someone else's work, and adds nothing new .... In fact, several good reasons not to. Just saying ....
Moved to general because this is pretty much common knowledge by now and not really development. Thread not deleted / closed despite the fact that this information is elsewhere because the OP has done a good job at making this very basic for even the noobiest of users to follow.
Moderator thanks for understanding me
I having some problems typing the cmd fastboot flash recovery recovery-Tiamat-R4c-100611-1150-cwm.img. It will say error: cannot load 'recovery-Tiamat-R4c-100611-1150-cwm.img'. The file I downloaded doesn't have an image file with it, but so I installed one from a another xda forum. will it go in same C:\Xoom bootloader unlocker file. or could it be messing up since i'm running xoom wifi 3.2.1
Edit:After looking over the command lines again I forgot to put cd C:\Xoom bootloader unlocker, and that fixed it! I gave you a five star for this thread. I've been trying to root my device for about two weeks non-stop. Saved me $50, because I was going to pay somebody that much to do it for me.

Serious Issues With Rooting

I have spent over a week trying to root my HTC Legend (running 2.2 froyo HBOOT 1.01).
Ive tried a dozen guides everywhere but I cant seem to get past the downgrade process :/
I tried this guide here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=894465) but i got "permission denied" when i tried to "adb reboot bootloader"
I get the cr--rw---- error when i try other guides.
Nothing seems to work.
Can anyone please write a simplified guide at one place for all this?
or tell me What really could be going wrong?
Use the "Hboot made easy guide" which is somewhere in this forum section. Very simple and I used the guide to root my legend after having fruitless tries with other guides.
Sent from my Legend using xda premium
The Legend just got added to the htc dev site so you should be able to unlock the bootloader now, might make things much easier for you.
Hi,
Did you find a solution ?
I'm in the same situation as you, my legend is froyo 2.2 and HBOOT 1.0.
If we use the htcdev, after that can we root the legend ?

Yes, with "HTC Super tool v3"
first of all download an application called visionary+
http://content.modaco.net/dropzone/c...ryplus.r13.apk
make sure that the usb debugging is turned on.
i hope you know how to create a gold card and that you have done it.
put the gold card in the phone.
then instead of running the crackin.bat file open it in word pad.
then temp root the phone using visionary+
type in each command one by one in the command prompt.
then when you reach the step where they show "adb shell" followed by commands.
then type
adb shell
then you will get a '$' symbol
then type su
then you will get a '#' symbol
then continue typing the commands without the 'adb shell'
after you type 'reboot' ignore the 'wait_for_device'
once the phone is back on temp root it again before you proceed.
finish the procedure this way.
Remember that you will get many error messages while you type each command. ignore the messages.
You wont get the full crwxrwxrwx. But what you get will be good enough.
now you can run the RUU
please reply if you have any doubts.
just try Unlock Bootloader http://htcdev.com/
yup... agree to the guy above..
unlock your boot loader than, flash CWM, after that. flash what ever rom you want as long as its for legend roms... ^^
hi guys,
i unlocked my device via htcdev its hboot version is now 1.02.000 and i flashed recovery_legend_5.0.2.8.img but i am not able to flash a new rom
after i booted in to recovery mode i chose flash zip from sd card option in the list it couldn't pass to next screen, options listed in the main menu goes off and i can see only cwm icon (a black hat over a yellow circle) i waited 2-3 minutes but nothing happened when i press power button it returns to main menu again.
Also other options listed in the cwm main menu not goes further, reboot system and power off, wipe data... either, same thing happens as described above.
i am waiting your suggestions
inside the cwm menu you have to make a selection by hitting the trackball (when you press the power-button, only the image you've descriped will appear)
