I did. I guess you can call me blind then.
Hard to say which is the most color accurate; the iphone/SGS definitely have colder color temperatures, but the SGS2 looks a bit warm (the reds don't look very deep). Also there is major red crushing in the parrot picture.
interestingly you havent posted the parrot picture from the same article. for some reason the super amoled plus has a distinct lack of detail for the feathers on the parrots back. there is no shadowing inbetween the feathers.

any reason for the difference between all the other photos and this specific one? maybe it doesnt deal with red as well?
is not just red observe the blue and yellow, it's dull on the retina
as for the SAMOLED it's the vivid colours that over take the edges (shadow)
is just like when you set a TV to very bright colours settings

Granted the iPhone's colors are off due to about only 65% of Gamut, you won't really notice it given the excellent contrast. So it's not that things aren't sharp because sharpness comes with high contrast.
AMOLED completely oversaturates.
Anyone do photography? Take your photo and take Saturation and do a +40 on it in Adobe Lightroom. That's AMOLED. Of course photos side by side will show it look nice, and the other one will be washed out, but which is more accurate for looking at photos or videos? Shrug

The SGS 2 is just wayyyyy over contrasted and oversaturated, they need to tone it down otherwise you lose a lot of detail like what you see in the parrot picture.

You guys are having some trouble understanding whats going on, so im gonna attempt to explain it.
The reason you see the parrot picture "oversaturated" and shadows not showing in properly is becaus oled technology surpasses easelly the native 1250:1 contrast ratio of a lcd display so youre trying to see the over lcd quality on an lcd, which frankly does little sense as your lcd screen will bottleneck the real quality of oled, furthermore the camera quality can also be questioned aswell regarding this matter.
It sounds stupid for ppl who dont know much about image displays, but for those who do know the diff between oled and lcd it makes a decent ammount of sense.
The "Overbrightness and oversaturation" you see there are simply the oled subpixels doing their job, lightning up, the camera & the lcd screen cannot display it as properly as a backlighted washed out lcd.

Im not trying to show off or anything, but what you are saying is false, "the end".
This is OLED technology, there is no such thing as "oversaturation" this doesnt use a backlight, the blue, green and red pixels are made of light, LIGHT, they are not complemented by the lcd backlight as a tn or ips panel does... so colors will look alot more realistic with bigger contrast ratio, with pure blacks and whites.
The camera quality is clearly average at best compared to a proper professional HD Cam corder, so it couldnt properly interpret the oled panel as its made purely of light, its like taking a snapshot of the sun, youre gonna miss details around it.
And then theres your screen, i take it ure viewing it in a LCD screen instead of an oled right? u cant compare lcd vs oled viewed on a lcd screen because that will downgrade the quality of oled to an lcd, no brainer here.
I dont understand why youre feeling so down, i bet you live in the marketing world where LCD is awzome and beats everything around... the fact is tough, lcd is by far the worst technology for color reproduction and pixel response time.

The only difference between a normal oled screen and samsung galaxy s2 superamoled plus is that it has 6 subpixels to form 1 full pixel instead of the typical 3 pixels, the 6 pixels combined together can provide better color reproduction and more accuracy compared to only 3.
Its like saying psone has better specs than ps3...

It is more than clear that the second image has been manipulated in a graphis software with more saturation, as the colors get pixelated and edges jaggy.
There is a difference between contrast ratio and saturation but from your comment you still cant understand what it rly is...
For once, how can u see oled pure black (pixel turned off) on a screen that to display the picture it has to have the back light always on...
How do u expect a pure red color when you have a white bulb backlight? the same goes for blue and green...
You will never be able to understand oled quality from an average snapshot displayed on a lcd screen, if u cant understand something as basic as that then, please, remember that saying: "It's better to keep quiet and..."

I agree with what you're saying, just wanted to point out that the SAMOLED+ screen will have a normal RGB stripe so it's 3 subpixels for each pixel, rather than 2 subpixels in the current SAMOLED pentile (RGBG - RG being 1 pixel, BG being the next, so 4 subpixels for 2 full pixels). So yes, I happily welcome the fact that it'll be RGB per full pixel like most traditional displays.

The one thing I wish the EVO had going for it is an AMOLED screen. I'm coming from a Nexus one with said screen, and it's gorgeous. Almost useless in direct sunlight, but gorgeous. Now their was an early Sprint ?Coming Soon site claiming the phone had an AMOLED screen http://www.androidguys.com/2010/03/28/sprints-htc-evo-4git-sizzles/ ---but this was prob an error. My question is: is their a huge, noticeable, difference in the two types of screens? EVO owners, give me your opinions!

Just had a live evo in my hands, and the screen is a beaut. I wouldnt worry about it not being AMOLED at all.
The screen is really a great screen.
I really don't notice much of a difference in colors / contrast / etc when compared to the ZuneHD, maybe it's the higher resolution / size that makes it look just as good.
meh, on the whole, AMOLED is all hype no show
AMOLED is trash I have a Nexus and an Evo and in direct sunlight my EVO is noticeable, AMOLED drains battery, LCD saves, colors are sharper but not brighter on AMOLED, brightness all the way up they both match up but the nexus(AMOLED) has a sharper scene
all in all not a big differ and Evo screen (IMO) has a better screen
1- colors are the same but sharper in AMOLED
2- direct sunlight LCD wins
3- colors are both bright
4- LCD battery saver
just a few details!
I thought that the amoled was more efficient.. so better than lcd

The screen on the HTC Evo 4G was, at times, a bit disappointing. Under medium indoor light, the screen is crisp and clear. Text looks sharp and legible and the dark, contrasty interface looks polished. Outside, the Evo 4G couldn't hold up to bright daylight. This made it tough to use for normal email and calling tasks, and nearly impossible to use the camera, since you have to tap an onscreen button to take a shot. In almost every way, the screen fared better than the AMOLED display on the smaller Nexus One. It was a bit brighter with warmer colors and much better outdoor performance. But it could still stand some improvement.

Incorrect, AMOLED has no back light and consumes roughly the same power that a TFT LCD uses just on the TFT portion of the screen. The TFT Portion of a Active Matrix OLED screen controls light on a PerPixel basis, illuminating each OLED pixel at whatever color is required vs LCD where the current is constantly on(except in a pure 0 0 0 black pixel) and controlling the Liquid Crystal portion rotating the LC to whatever degree to allow the backlight(A large % of the consumption) to shine through at a given color. And because of AMOLEDs aforementioned lack of back light it uses significantly less power.
I'm also confused as to what you mean by "color sharpness" Are you talking about the actual edge sharpness of an image or the color reproduction.
In which case the color reproduction on a AMOLED is more SATURATED not specifically more accurate, though the increased saturation makes the image appear better on average because most people enjoy over saturated images. The contrast ratio, which is the ratio of black to white, e.g. when a TV says it has a 3,500:1 contrast ratio then the luminance of a pure white pixel 255,255,255 is 3,500 times higher than that of a pure black 0,0,0 pixel. AMOLED displayes typically have a much higher contrast ratio due to the lack of a back light and the fact they can produce much "deeper" black pixels.
AMOLED actually bugs me, not only are they useless in direct sunlight(which I find myself under quite often) but it feels like colors are often OVER saturated, like the reds and oranges on my friend's Incredible look awful while I've never had that with my Hero, some colors on mine might be washed out but I'd rather have that than have a giant hodgepodge of colors on an AMOLED.
Another thing to consider is AMOLEDs "burn in". That means that pixels that do not change on the screen for a long time tend to burn in and show permanent shadows. This happens on the status bar a lot since it is nearly always displayed and unchanging.

As of last week I just switch over from At&t to Sprint wireless. I had two lines on my contract, wifey with the Samsung Moment and myself with the HTC Hero just to hold me off until the Evo release.
From what I thought isn't the Samsung Moment screen also uses the Amoled technology and the Hero is LCD?
Side by side comparison from low brightness to 100 percent, the Hero display looks so much better quality wise compare to the Moment. Hero seem more saturated and crisp whereas the Moment IMO seem much more dulled. Especially in the setting menu with the black background, the Moment is kind of like greenish black whereas the Hero is spot on black. Outside I'm having a very difficulty time navigating around Moment (brightness all the way up) whereas the Hero is still manageable.
By any mean I'm no expert in this display stuff but this is just my own little comparison of what I've seen between the two display.
Anyone know if the Evo screen is transreflective? A related question would be, is it even possible for AMOLED to be transreflective?
I compared my Evo screen with my old Hero screen and the Hero was a little brighter and with darker blacks. Even between LCDs there are differences.
Most reasonable people viewing the GNote pentile screen say it is bright, has high contrast, deep blacks and a sharp image.
It is a 24bit Millions of colours screen.
So why the hatred of pentile?
It's got me f#^ked.
Maybe it is due to old arguments that date back years.
There is an old controversy going around between pentile and LCD proponents, which is apples vs oranges because there are pentile lcd's and rgb oled's.
The controversy is, that pentiles use less sub-pixels and therefore should be rated as such in lower pixel density.
This ignores how vision works, which essentially is an illusion.
To disagree is to dismiss basic Buddhism and modern psychology as well as film theory on visual perception.
At the level of pixels, the illusion of vision breaks down for lcd as well as pentile screens.
So while looking at a pentile screen with a magnifying glass can be scary, it is the same for rgb's.
So why did Samsung go back to using the pentile matrix instead of RGB for the Note?

Doubles screen brightness for equivalent power
Achieves higher resolution
Provides flexible settings for color control and power savings

Contrary to the hype, pentiles allow higher resolution, all the while using much less power. Talk about a no-brainer.
One of the limitations of the pentile is a cross hatched pattern seen on the edge of some images, like a border between red and white, when seen up close(with a magnifying glass). This is so at lower pixel densities but "for higher pixel densities you stand to gain from PenTile" ; is the PenTile matrix bad for you?

No one is complaining about pentile can give higher resolution, its not like we want 800x480 RGB over 1280x800 pentile. But already given the phone is 1280x800, people would rather it be super amoled plus instead of pentile super amoled.
While pentile consumes less power, super amoled screens sucks power like crazy. It is a fact. But that said, i still think the screen is gorgreous. however if you let me choose - RGB over pentile any day.

Given a 1280 x800 resolution, I would prefer it to be pentile as it will look better.

Well if you are not talking about super amoled, then yes a pentile layout consumes theoretically 33% less power.
If you are strictly comparing pentile RGBG/RGBW to RGB, pentile looks like sh*t i gotta say. At least my atrix did.
Pentile also ages better than sRGB amoled, because the lifespan of the organic amoled subpixels are different from color to color. The pentile ages better because there are simply more subpixels of the color which has the lowest lifespan.

Actually I gotta agree with you on that. My gf had a SGS II and that blue tint bugged the hell outta me. I dont know what they done to it, but i dont think it was a problem with it being RGB.
Pentile suffers from strange color tints on whites.
Hard time rendering shades of gray.
Strange artifacts in low-light conditions.
Ofc all noise is camouflaged by the high resolution.
I would trade for the S-LCD screen of the Rezound any-day,
the only problem with that screen is that it could use abit deeper blacks.

I think this is related to OLED and not Pentile.
The Note screen does seem bluish to me when seen from an angle.
I don't see problems with grey on the Note.
I have view gradients to test the 24bit resolution and if viewed in a 24bit app, 24bit images look fine, otherwise not, but this is not an intrinsic fault of the Note's screen, only of the low res images or apps.
I'm not going to go back through and quote people, but some people said some things that are downright incorrect. Pentile does NOT "increase the resolution." It does exactly the opposite, decreasing it. Pentile has half the red subpixels and half the blue subpixels that RGB does; that means overall, pentile only has 2/3 the pixel elements that an RGB screen has. You can't display more information with fewer pixel elements.
The unpleasant artifacts I notice on pentile screens are small text, lines, graphics, appear fuzzy and sometimes colored on the edges, and when I look at solid colors that use red and blue (i.e.just about everything but solid green) especially white, I get this screen door effect. It's almost like there's a bit of checkerboard pattern to the solid color rather than being uniform. Hold your phone closer to your face and look at a solid white area, especially try to find a solid white area that is next to a solid green area with the brightness turned up all the way and you'll really see what I'm talking about.
Pentile doesn't necessarily use less energy than RGB. There are fewer subpixels, but they're twice as large and put out twice as much light. Energy in = light out. So in theory, the energy should be exactly the same. Perhaps they've found some way to do pentile a little more efficiently on some phones, but it's not an overall rule at all.
Pentile is used because it allows them to make the blues twice as big. Since they had a problem with short life span on those, making them twice as big made them hardier, longer lived, and higher yields in the manufacturing process. That's the ONLY reason for pentile. You could say this allows manufacturers to build higher resolution displays than they otherwise would be capable of (since they're cheating and using larger blues than an RGB would have) but a 1280x800 pentile is NOT "higher resolution" than a 1280x800 RGB! According to definition, they're the exact same resolution, but in reality, the pentile is lower in resolution.
RGB is ALWAYS better than pentile as far as image quality. The reason the Note's screen looks better than the SGSII, even though the SGSII had RGB, is simply because it has a much higher resolution. The benefits from that outweigh the negatives of pentile.

I really am not too bothered about what screen the phone uses as long as it looks good, i do think to me it looks fantastic. Lovely and bright and it displays a fantastic picture. If people dont like a particular screen a phone uses then they have the choice not to buy it. Some posts in here are very informative so in that respect thanks. However people that ***** about the phones screen (not necessarily in this thread) have the choice to return it and wait for the screen of their choice to come out.

The general public isn't noticing these artifacts, which makes me think they made the right decision on this one. After all, the General public would definitely notice a higher battery drain. I won't pretend to know the technical details about why Pentile battery usage < RGB.

Probably - but it's not interesting if that's not how you generally use your phone.
I wish I could find the interview, but they interviewed a samsung executive who was quite candid about the whole thing. He said quite clearly that Amoled + is sharper than Pentile. But he said that they went Pentile because in terms of sharpness, Amoled is good enough (i.e. still fantastic) - production is better (i.e. it's cheaper to make) and uses less battery power.
And they are correct. I've watched/read many many reviews of the GNote. For the most part, they all rave about the Screen, complain about the price, and are happy with the battery.
It would have been a mistake to put AMOLED+ in, and have the reviews (still) rave about the Screen, be even more turned off by the price, and only be 'okay' with the battery. (perhaps even complaining about it, saying 'Luckily it has a huge battery, because otherwise you'd be toast)
The GNote is already a niche device - you want to widen its appeal as much as possible.

Don't get me wrong, I'm very happy with my Note, including the screen. Search my posts and you'll see me say that several times. I'm a long time pentile hater from the day I first powered on my nexus one and started wondering what was wrong with the screen. Yet I've said several times that the Note's so awesome and the screen otherwise so beautiful that I'm able to overlook the pentile layout.
However I'm not going to read people claiming that pentile is better than RGB without speaking up, because it's not.

Pentile is used because it allows them to make the blues twice as big. Since they had a problem with short life span on those, making them twice as big made them hardier, longer lived, and higher yields in the manufacturing process. That's the ONLY reason for pentile. You could say this allows manufacturers to build higher resolution displays than they otherwise would be capable of (since they're cheating and using larger blues than an RGB would have) but a 1280x800 pentile is NOT "higher resolution" than a 1280x800 RGB! It doesn't directly, no. But you then go on to point out exactly how it enables much higher pixel densities - in an RGB layout each sub-pixel is the same size, so they need to make the blue sub-pixel at a viable size (as you said,) then make green and red sub-pixels that are the same size again.
On a PenTile screen, they can print the blue sub-pixel at it's required size, but the green component can be much smaller - and as a result, you can fit more pixels into the same space. If you compare the Galaxy Nexus's 316ppi PenTile screen to the S2's 216ppi RGB screen, you'll find that the blue and red sub-pixels are actually of a comparable width.
Sure RGBRGB is technically superior to RGBG in terms of image quality, but after a certain pixel-density:distance ratio, it just doesn't matter anymore, and allows for a greater pixel density regardless of display technology.
As a point of curiosity (I know you gave this first point, I'm just elaborating,) resolution is a measure of the number of horizontal or vertical alternating black and white lines a display can produce while maintaining a certain level of contrast. PenTile screens actually are their advertised resolution. However low-density RGBG will lose some detail in reds, but greens are still fine, and the human eye can't see enough detail in blue to tell a difference there. That's in general though - obviously there are biological differences in people, and that is where the legitimate complaints come from - not from holding a phone 3 inches from your face.
As for whether RGB or PenTile is better - consider that the Galaxy Nexus's 4.65" screen could fit either 1280x720 RG/BG pixels, or 960x540 RGB pixels, and it's too dense to be able to tell the difference in sub-pixel arrangement. I think PenTile actually is better in that case.

okay so everyone is forgetting that not so long ago printers used to print using
only one size dot of ink. well the picture from same size dots looked grainy. so the print people came up with different size dots of ink to make the pictures look
amazing. i look at the pentile displays the same way. in comparison the
screens on rgb screens look blocky to me and those on pentile look smoother and
less grainy. iphone just shrank the dots to where the human eye can't detect
them. but i believe to acheive the same thing on a larger screen isn't very
pratical. that's where different size pixels will make images appear smooth.

Put simply, a lot of the criticisms of pentile displays are only relevant to particular implementations, and not necessarily to the technology.

I looked at the Note screen under a loupe and I could see a serrated edge along the top of white text on a black bacground. If I looked at it normally I couldn't tell. In this case the pentile doesn't bug me.
What DOES bug me is the low color depth that the Note displays. It is odd as it is inconsistant. If I look at photos it is fine. Some apps though look like the color depth is drastically reduced. Two apps to test are Angry birds Rio, and Google Sky. In AB look at the sky and clouds on the title screen, the shades all blend smooth on other devices (checked on an Infuse). On the Note there is severe color loss and much banding evident. Same with google sky There are these sky gradients, smoother on other OLED screens like the Infuse, much more bandy on the Note. I don't know why on some things like photos the note looks fine, but in many apps color loss and banding is evident. Maybe it is some weird incompatibility of the apps? Maybe they mis-read the screen capability and drop to low color mode? I don't know but it is weird and bothers me much more than the pentile matrix.
Coming from a Galaxy Nexus, my main concern is - How are the black levels gonna be? I absolutely LOVE SuperAMOLED - Mainly, the blacks - I LOVE THEM and I'm sure many other users do. I don't know if the LG's black levels are gonna be as good or better? Does anything know that?
I have a choice to jump from the Gnex to the Nex4 but if the screen's black levels aren't as good - I probably won't.
What's your opinion about the screen?
Go look at a One X, it'll be similar to that (which is SO much better than the GNex screen - IPS ftw!!)

The apparent high end screen on my laptop has a rubbish black level. So I'm also hoping the Nexus 10 has good blacks, so I can use that for media instead.

Yeah I've used the One X a lot of times and I'm not impressed at all. The color reproduction is good but the black levels don't amaze me, at all. I feel that my nexus' screen is much better than the OneX (Just my opinion, don't pounce on me)
With AMOLED, the blacks are black because the led's are switched off, it doesn't try make the colour "Black".
LCD screens do not do this. So blacks will be grey, but colours and viewing angles WILL be better. Another thing, AMOLED is a battery drain with anything other than the colour black.
OLED screens will always have darker blacks than LCDs. That's just due to the nature of how each type of screen technology works.

They will probably be as good as any IPS LCD on the market. LG makes very good smartphone displays, including iPhone 4/4S/5 displays.
Just look at the present ips screen on the LG top model phones, i'm sure the nexus 4 will be similar.
The blacks will not be the same as others mentioned but it's a tradeoff. Super amoleds have good contrast and blacks but the ips lcd's I've seen had better color accuracy and sharper images. I like amoleds but the whites and other colors aren't that good and the brightness isn't high enough for my taste. I look forward to seeing the n4 up close

I have mixed feelings as well regarding the screen of the new Nexus 4. I also own a Galaxy Nexus, and aside from the black levels, there is another area where the AMOLED screens shine: motion handling. LCDs tend to blur images in fast motion, motion resolution isn't usually very good. This is very noticeable when watching action films or sports, for example.
However, AMOLED screens are very fast thus their motion handling is on par (or even better than) with plasmas, which gives you crisp and clear images even when moving (blur ocurring depending on the shooting conditions but that's a whole different story).
So, to summarize the differences between the screens:
- The screen of the Nexus 4 will be slightly clearer, the pentile matrix used in the AMOLED screen makes it slightly more "blurry", although due to its high pixel density that's usually hard to see.
- The screen of the Galaxy Nexus has perfect blacks, the screen of the Nexus 4 doesn't. The point is, will its blacks be "black enough" even for multimedia? "Black enough" is very subjective...
- The screen of the Nexus 4 will probably handle motion worse than the Galaxy Nexus one. The point again will be if it handles motion well enough.
It seems that the screen of the Nexus 4 is slightly better for reading and web browsing but slightly worse for multimedia. I only have a Galaxy Nexus (no access to HTC One X, etc) so anyway I can't really compare.
Well it all depend on taste. I think the IPS screen for me will be better for contents consumption. Text clarity is a very important factor for phones and RGB array IPS excel here. Better color accuracy is the most important factor for me, without the banding, retention and dark spots that I deal with on AMOLED. I only fear of the chance of backlight leakage that can happen with regular LCD.
I know the response time of the OLED screen have very fast, but I don't do heavy gaming on small mobile devices. It also have ultra wide angle view and wider color gamut (poorly tuned however). I also like its performance outdoor and contrast. But it can be s battery eater.

The Nexus 4 will have better viewing angles than the AMOLED.
Sunlight will probably be better too. Colours will be more realistic, and battery life will be lower apart from on a black screen.
I don't like the oversaturated colors of amoled screens, and true colors are important in my work, so I much prefer a good IPS screen. Too bad about the blacks though.

I hope the Nexus 4 display will be better. On my Gnex whenever I watch videos with dark scenes or blackground, I get this noise/artifact thing in the background. Do you guys get that? Also, black is technically not completely black on the Gnex because the pixels do light up a little for faster switching. There are a few threads in the Gnex forum that talk about that. It is only noticeable when there is very little or no ambient light. You can test it by going to a dark room and open an image that is completely black. You will see some dim light coming out from the AMOLED.
I would have to say my biggest concern is how the screen will perform in the direct sunlight. Of the phones I've had the gnex does best in direct sunlight. Very easily readable and use able in direct sunlight. All my other phones have been washed out in the sun. They where some form of lcd's, but not any of the newer generation super performing lcd's that are out now. The HTC Rezound I had was the best LCD screen I've owned. Amazing picture but suffered in the sun.

I think that's either black crush like the original note had or the black spots which nearly all amoled screens get because of the way they are produced.

I am thinking of buying one of this mobiles. They both seems very good, got 3GB of RAM, big display (i want some bigger phone), but.... I am wondering which one have better display and which one got better battery. This is probably the most important for me.

Get the note. Every time I use my note 4 for something I notice how much crisper the screen is, and I hate not having that on the Xperia. Samsung did a really good job packing a ton of features in the note 4 and the screen will keep it future-proof longer than the Xperia. I actually prefer the note 4 to note 5. ( buy the unlocked version and install note 5 rom on it, you'll get the note 4's removable back + new software)
I also owned both and I should say Z5 screen is way superior to note 4.at least mine.I still have note 4 and can answer questions if you have any.
PS:note is easier to root and flash CM if you care.I had to return my Z5 because of lack of root for locked BL.I'm back to my Z2 and N4 is collecting dust.lol.

I would still choose Z5 but for different reasons: 1 performance, note 4 has a weaker cpu and gpu, z5 camera is more sophisticated than note 4 camera except z5 camera has no OIS and lacks several manual functions, but me and many others can live with that, Z5 has real radio, Z5 has water proof support and z5 has dedicated camera button.

It's not black and white. LCDs can and tend to be able to display proper white (sometimes you need to tweak it via white balance settings but YOU can have it unlike OLEDs) while OLEDs tend to have difficulty with it and never truly achieves proper whites and you have to calibrate with time due to OLEDs organic nature. But in contrary OLEDs displays deep blacks due to switching of the organic pixel (LCDs cant switch of becouse the R G B channels are just filters on top of the backlight). White is more important though as that is what is used most in apps, themes and so on. And due to the OLED being organic the blue, red and green pixel component each have a life length and blue has less than the other 2 which means having bright/white things displayed on your OLED would shorten the blue components life length faster resulting in uneven colors on the screen, "burn-ins" and it just gets worse with time.
LCDs dont have this problem becouse the only thing you lose with time is the brightness due to the backlight getting worn and so you can compensate by increasing brightness intensity. And Sony TFT and IPS LCD for their Z1+ lineup comes with Triluminos which adds an extra component to help the pixels and extends the color range to 85% of Adobe RGB 1998 ICC color profile which is far more than a regular LCD can do giving rich and accurate colors that without problems rivals OLEDs while still being proper and true to life without typical OLED oversaturation. Triluminos also helps with the black but cant rival OLEDs 'pixel switching off' blacks.
Now latest OLEDs from Samsung does better than older but they still tend to oversaturate since they also can display beyond standard sRGB color scheme that is the standard but cant really accomodate to it like an LCD with Triluminos can due to its organic nature and how it works.
You want precision that holds for years and proper white you go with Z5 but if you want deep blacks, "popping" colors and less precision you go with OLED. OLEDs also have better response time but that would mostly only be of importance if you play games at fast framerates.
In my opinion, you should also consider the UI of Samsung and Sony because TouchWiz (Samsung UI) is notorious for lagging as months passed by and when multitasking, while Sony UI is always smooth and rarely lags. :good:
I had a Note 4 before getting a Z5P. Stock Samsung is garbage. You have to look into AOSP/CM for the Note 4 and it may not be 100% stable. The Note 4's camera is definitely though. Z5 camera is only good on paper but in real world situation Note 4 wins easily. Z5 has way too many pixels can't produce a good image unless the source is extremely well lit.

The problems with white balance for oled displays are long gone, those issues were only present in the first few oled screens ever produced because back then the organic material for red and green were degrading at a different level than the blue.
My Galaxy S6 has the purest white any LCD dreams of and also a much bigger color gamut, also it has a fraction of the pixel response time of any gaming tft lcd out there producing less ghosting and blurring when in motion, on top of the pure blacks as you acknowledged also.
As for the over saturation, the oversaturation comes by default to boast the contrast capabilities of the oled screens, normally found in test units, my galaxy s6 for example came out of the box with such a toned down saturation that nobody would even dare to call it an OLED, but anytime i want to enable eye popping colours i just change the color scheme from the display settings itself.
Theres no reason to vote for a LCD anymore, except if you are concered about buying a monitor/tv thats always ON and not bothered with image quality, then LCD is best as it doesnt suffer from burn in issues, or color degradation, but frankly thats just about it.
EDIT: i also forgot to mention that the best LCD screen ive ever come across in any phone was the Xperia Z1 Compact screen, perfect color reproduction at everything, which put Xperia Z2, Xperia Z3 (both normal and compact) and Xperia Z5(Again, both normal and compact) screens to shame.

The phone should last a day as long as you dont push it and dont enable brightness to maximum all the time.
If it doesnt well, you can always get a pocket charger as the competition of z5 will last only a slightly more time which is negligible.
I would choose the Xperia Z5 over the note 4 anyday though, its a great phone and it wont dissapoint any average user.
Xperia Z5 only dissapoints enthusiasts like myself but not because of its quality, quality is great, but because of DRM and locked features which makes no sense beying locked.
What are you guys talking about? Note 4 has one of the best screens on the market. Near perfect white balance (6562K) and 99% Adobe RGB. Just use Photo Mode. Adaptive Display mode is over saturated but optional.

Also color burn is an old issue from Galaxy Nexus devices and earlier. Samsung displays have burn-in protection.
Moving from Note 4 to Z5P was definitely a downgrade in color accuracy and white balance, but upgrade in pixels. I honestly thought I would care more, but I actually don't. I rather have no screen door effect in VR and higher resolution. Now if Samsung released a 4K AMOLED screen...

They still suffer from uneven colors and shades over the display.

The highlighted part goes against your first comment. All 3 color channels degrade independantly of each other based on what is displayed and how colors are used. Blue is still used the most.

I have not tunned the Z5c LCD but it does actually for my unit use to much blue. Though my Z1 has near perfect white balance with minimal tweaks aswell as boosting impressive contrast, top notch color reproduction and good viewing angles. For being a TFT LCD with Triluminos it is quite close to IPS LCD regarding viewing angles except when brightness on displayed material goes above a certain threshold but immensly better than a regular TFT LCD. I have a JDI panel btw.

Strangely enough it either goes for to much red or blue. Maybe panels come with different "qualities" and/or different assembly fabrics and quality. As long as you dont have to 'mute' a color channel to much to get good whites it should be OK else you lose brightness and contrast.

I had a Note 4 before getting a Z5P. Stock Samsung is garbage. You have to look into AOSP/CM for the Note 4 and it may not be 100% stable. The Note 4's camera is definitely though. Z5 camera is only good on paper but in real world situation Note 4 wins easily. Z5 has way too many pixels can't produce a good image unless the source is extremely well lit.

The camera is really bad in real world situations. Despite what you read in reviews that only test extremely bright or extremely dark environments, taking photos at home or indoors is pointless. People's faces will look like they were smeared with peanut butter. http://imgur.com/0OhbSaq

I own the Z5c and cant relate to what you are sayinh although it sure needs some white balance and algorithm tweaking. In your photo comparision it looks like the Z5 photo was taken with zoom and possibly older firmware vs just a crop from the Note 4. Without ISO and shutter speed info it's also quite pointless "comparision". Exif would show it zoom was used and much more. I can say though that not even with ISO 6400 in low light does my Z5c produce such bad image quality. Only with zoom.
And the test I linked to is properly done with information and different scenes with different lighting conditions unlinke the "tests" by random people on the interwebs posting photos without exif data nor information and croppings where you have no orignal fullsize photo as reference either. Who has more credibility, that test or your "test"? Anyway it's pretty much settled in stone that the Z5 is better.

And you missed the point...
The point is, these are real world samples. The first shot was me at a wedding. Yeah, it's zoomed, but not the point. The point is the heavy smearing of pixels the post processor does, ruining the quality, just because to Sony all noise is bad.
The second was my Note 4 and Z5P both taking a picture at the exact same distance of something I have at home in dim lighting. The Z5 is straight up worst and if you can't see that, that's some serious " fanboyism" there. And yeah, my Z5P running 6.200, so no, it's not an "older firmware." You don't need EXIF data to see the point I'm making. In dim lighting, the Z5 severely underperforms. But you rather believe my sharing of these photos is part of some conspiracy to maliciously fake a comparison so the Note 4 is better go right ahead.

Interesting. So kind of cheating for tests/demoing regarding readability as you cant have both maximum readability and accurate colors.
The highlighted part goes against your first comment. All 3 color channels degrade independantly of each other based on what is displayed and how colors are used. Blue is still used the most.
I have not tunned the Z5c LCD but it does actually for my unit use to much blue. Though my Z1 has near perfect white balance with minimal tweaks aswell as boosting impressive contrast, top notch color reproduction and good viewing angles. For being a TFT LCD with Triluminos it is quite close to IPS LCD regarding viewing angles except when brightness on displayed material goes above a certain threshold but immensly better than a regular TFT LCD. I have a JDI panel btw.
Strangely enough it either goes for to much red or blue. Maybe panels come with different "qualities" and/or different assembly fabrics and quality. As long as you dont have to 'mute' a color channel to much to get good whites it should be OK else you lose brightness and contrast.

Ok well it makes me think that you didnt own a proper OLED phone, maybe you did own a bad one in the past and the screen was crap (defective).
First of all, OLED screens do not result in color saturation shift when degrading because the software inside their panel drivers automatically correct the color shifting, (my galaxy s2 still has top notch colors).
As for the cheating, i have no idea what you mean by that, you can saturate the colors or desaturate them at your will, i dont know what cheating is involved because there isnt any cheating at all xD
I have tuned my Xperia Z5 screen and i had to keep red to minimum and blue and green almost to max to get a proper white balance, doing so, resulted in severly desaturated colors and bad luminosity (as the panel software disallows maximum brightness values when colors are calibrated).
I never liked the Xperia Z1 screen, a small tilt resulted in horrid washed out colors, Xperia Z1 Compact is a completely different beast with the best IPS panel ive ever seen in any phone 1800:1 contrast ratio (native)!
As for that complaint in the note 4 forums, its obvious that the user of that phone suffers from the typical defective screens that samsung fails to stop at production, uneven color or tints of any kind on the screen is not a characteristic of an oled screen, its a characteristic of a defective unit, i have to change 2 galaxy s6 untill i got 1 with perfect colours, i had to change 1 galaxy s2 to get the good screen and the galaxy s4 i got it with perfect color reproduction from start.
Finally, LCD screens were always the worst type of screens in term of image quality and color fidelity, even at professional image editing level which means wasting thousands of dollars on a proper IPS LCD screen, professionals were never really satisfied with its color reproduction and instead choose to use old school CRT monitors (myself included).
The only reasons why LCDs are successfull is because of good marketing, they suck at color accuracy, they suck at pixel response time and they suck at image definition. (My OLD Sony CRT ran 75hertz at 2048x1536)
It was a joy to use in any type of situation, movies, playing games and image editing software.

You still lose luminosty and or/color representation quality when correcting the other channels to lowest common denominator uniformly. S2, S3 and played with S4 and S5. The former ones wher just horrible. You could almost spot the pentile matrix design and colors overly saturated. "Eye bleeders"! :laugh:

You mean you had to set green and blue close to 255? That sounds like your screen is way off. I might look into mine later and see how much it needs to be tweaked via the white balance setting.

Well then that was the AUO panel. They made an ugly one by having different panels. I got the good one, JDI and I can tilt it and have very close results to that of an IPS LCD as long as the displayed graphics aint overly bright (lots of white) where it then performs worse but then I am talking about extreme viewing angles. Btw OLED also looses quality when tilting at sides and has 'color switching' and black suffers (if pixels aint switched off).

Still better than having uneven colors and blotches. Nothing worse than having a display that looks like a CRT that has been abused with a magnet (not as bad though but still!).

Well I did wait for the longest before switching to LCD from a CRT. Loved my Sony Trinitron monitor. Atleast it failed with pride.

Right.. 3 on a row, 5 on a row, most/all retail store display units.. Then going by what you say Samsung has horrible QA for their OLED displays and you are in for a ride in the lottery. Tons of people in the 95 page thread going through multiple units all with the pink/green blotches with varying severity. Pretty few getting a rplacement display that has none. All showing some color hues and some reporting it going worse by time. You even got a video showing differences in white point color to at same display color settings!
I even checked at local mobile phone store and S6, Note 5 units had color blotches on a white background. Some better some worse but still there.

I'm about done with AMOLED panels and I'm about done with the S7 because of it. Ever since phones went quad HD (Turbo, S6, Nexus 6, Turbo 2, Note 5, 6P, S7, etc), this has been a problem, and unfortunately it still seems to exist on the S7. This is my second one - the first one had it in a different area on the screen and it was even worse. It's the pink fade on light or white backgrounds. Once you see it you can't unsee it. I'm sure some will come in here and say they can't see it. I noticed it looks all white at the right angle so if you're not seeing it, you might move your screen a bit. Also, the first image (the horizontal one) shows it the most b/c it has the subtle camera lines which make the fade even more obvious. Not sure if there's a point to this except to vent a bit and, I guess, see if anybody else has had this issue on theirs. Given that the screen is supposed to be one of the main selling points of this device, it's hard to keep it when I see the fade every time a lighter background comes up...
Honestly, I don't really see one benefit to having an AMOLED panel any more - even the highest quality ones eventually deal with burn-in, the battery life is not any better, and they have inconsistencies which are apparently just par for the course. #frustrated
Hmm my S7 doesn't have this effect at all angles and I don't think this is something with AMOLED displays. I think it's the new gorilla glass and the refractive properties of it. At some angles it looks blue and others pink but looking straight at the phone I don't see any weird hue just perfect white. The colours on the S7 display are the best for an AMOLED screen so far and I can say that since I work in a paint store and colour matching is my life.

I know what you're referring to with the refractive properties on Gorilla Glass 4 and this definitely isn't that. I'm even able to see the inconsistencies on darker backgrounds as well. I've uploaded two more photos, attached to this post. That's a solid dark grayish/blue background.
Pick your poison. With AMOLED you're going to get higher brightness, contrast and color saturation, but it will shift colors on whites with various viewing angles. With LCD you'll get colors that are less saturated but more stable and no true blacks (thus worse contrast), and it's brightness, contrast and saturation will all degrade at higher viewing angles.

I know, and I guess I shouldn't be surprised. Though I don't think we're talking about just color shifting at various viewing angles. This fade (and prior fades) appears to be "burned" in to the screen itself, and while differing angles help a bit, it doesn't change the problem.

But the better sunlight legibility and perfect blacks appear as a fair trade in for me..

I don't know - obviously that's subjective, but even my iPhone 5S is still just as readable in sunlight, and having inconsistencies in the screen appearance on a $700 device, to me anyway, is hard to justify for the sake of pure blacks.
Many will disagree, but this is why I still think the iPhone 6 Plus has the best display. I own an S7 Edge and while my screen colors are even with no pink tint, the entire display does have a bit of a green tint to the whites and I can occasionally make out horizontal lines where the brightness isn't perfectly even on grays and whites, especially noticeable when scrolling. My S7 Edge is about as good as I've seen any QHD AMOLED display, certainly much better than any of the S6s I owned, but it's still not perfect, and I would still prefer the display from the iPhone 6 Plus. To me, good, even, uniform whites are more important than perfect blacks because most of the things I do on my phone involve white backgrounds (web pages especially).

One thing I would like to point out that you are completely missing is the contrast, not only black-white but the colour contrast! This is another area where S7 screen is clearly superior than 6s plus or any other mobile lcd. You can verify that by viewing a colorful wallpaper side by side on both the screens. Another thing is colour accuracy and colour gamut in which S7 screen again comes on top.
Both types of screens obviously have their pros and cons but SAMOLED screens arguably do have more pros over lcds than cons imho!

Agree 100%. And at least the blacks on LCD's are consistent. They might not be "pure", but they are consistent unlike the whites in AMOLED.

You call it superior, I call it over-saturated (), even still on the latest and greatest. Don't get me wrong, they look nice and my eyes get used to it after awhile, but no matter what I do the S7's screen (and S6's, and Turbo's, etc.) feels "cartoonish" to me when navigating through the UI. Every time I go back to LCD from AMOLED my eyes feel a small sense of relief - almost like the contrast was too much. I know that's not the norm, so fortunately we have choices. But I love everything about the S7 except, ironically, its screen because of these inconsistencies. I simply shouldn't be seeing a fade from white to pinkish grey on an all-white background on a 2016 flagship.

Anyway you seem very clear about your preference of the display type so I'm not going to contest that, but I would say that lcd displays are not free from fault like amoleds and they do have issues like backlight bleeding, abnormal tints, non-uniformity issues, dead / stuck pixels etc.
BTW, I'm not here to preach about amoled or lcds, it's only my own experience with both the display types in the past. My experiences might vary from yours but I've always had them better with samoled screens than lcds.
I just bought a s7 flat 2 weeks ago and its my first AMOLED phone., i dont have any kind of color uniformity but i can see the strong blue tint in white when i look at the screen from an angle, and its really distracting me too much. I dont know if i go to warranty and they can fix it.

No, as that is the nature of the technology. When viewed at an angle, LCDs maintain color uniformity but lose saturation, brightness and contrast. AMOLEDs shift to blue green but maintain saturation, brightness and contrast. Refer to my post above (#4) and check out the picture.

I see it, and i aggree with you but, color shift is more disturbing then losing brightness. Its not affecting when using phone most times but whenever i use my phone with one hand and try to open notifications, blue tint is appearing and i really hate it. Actually iam in love with blacks of amoled screen, but this thing is driving me crazy. Maybe i am just too sensitive this color changes.
And btw, my father have a Galaxy A3, and it has exactly same blue tint on his phone too. I Think samsung should something to fix it for next Galaxy S. Its really annoying.

It has to do with the varying luminescence and longevity of the various colored pixels. AMOLEDs have been like that since the beginning and it won't be fixed by the next generation of devices. Once you get in the habit of keeping the phone perpendicular to your eyes, it's not so bothersome. Then you go back to an LCD and see that it looks so flat and dim and decide it's totally worth it.

Sorry, didn't mean to sound so dogmatic. I really don't dislike AMOLEDs, the imperfections just frustrate me on such a high end device. You're exactly right that LCD's can also have flaws, but I see them much less than I see them in AMOLED panels - which is just inherent to the two different types of technology and how well the OEMs implement them. I was able to exchange the one in the photos of this thread for a new one (two guys at the store agreed it was an issue) and while the new one isn't perfect, it's MUCH better to where it's not all I see now.

There is truth in this statement. Despite my overall preference for LCD, when I use AMOLED for a period of time and go back, it's a two-fold reaction... one reaction is slight relief on my eyes, but the other reaction is getting used to the "dullness" - though I find I get used to that much faster than I get used to the high contrast when going from LCD to AMOLED. I would imagine if I stuck to a phone for more than a few months and that phone was AMOLED, the change back to LCD would be even more difficult.

Disappointed this is still an issue with AMOLED screens, this frustrated me to no end on my Galaxy S2 where the screen would shift yellow from one end to the other. Glad you posted this thread as it's not a widely addressed issue, guess I'm going with HTC 10.
I've never noticed this on any of my AMOLED displays. Nor have I noticed any burn in, and I'm not sure what you mean by "other inconsistencies," but if you mean sample to sample variation that affects LCD panels, too. And if you don't like the high contrast, that's adjustable in Display settings.
What I have noticed is vibrant color and ease of using in daylight that no LCD panel can match. Or even come close to. I guess I'm done with LCDs.
