Every time I try and download a file on my xoom, it downloads a partial file. For example if I try and download an .apk file from the forums, it will download a partial file, and whenever I try and install it says "problem parsing the package". I've tried to download files multiple times with no hope
And help would be awesome!
I have the same problem. All files I try to download are partial files. Any ideas?

I get the same issue on my phone running 2.3 and have always had similar issues going back to 1.5. I think it's an Android issue through and through.
I had the same problem, One solution was holding your finger on the link and choosing save from the popup list but that only worked half of the time; the other was using opera when i wanted to download. Opera got most of the files chrome didnt
Best solution I've come up with so far is to use an alternate browser like Opera.
I'm not a fan of using 3rd party apps to replace something that's already standard, but Opera really isn't to bad. You can get it free from the market and try it out.
but still, if someone has a fix for the stock browser, please post!
I agree with the 3rd party browser if you need to dwl anything. i use dolphin to dwl. stock to browse

yeah, that's such a pain though lol. I tried editing the UAstring as well, no luck there either.

Hi guys,
I've been trying to download some files from the sites listed above, with extensions such as .rmvb .rar etc When the download starts, I get the message that the file format is not supported. Any ideas how to make the browser ignore what files im downloading and just download them without problems?
Thanks
If you install either linda or astro off the market, then it should allow to download any file type.
thing is i have astro installed, but the problem still occurs. I will give linda a try thanks for the tip
I don't know then. I remember downloading a few .rar's a while back but I can't recall which one I had installed, and it was on my G1 (don't know how that would make a difference).
just installed linda and same problem.
"Cannot download. The content is not supported on this phone."
its a .rar im trying to download.
In linda, there's an option to activate the download functionality. Check the download plugin On (toggle it back and forth just to be sure). See if that helps.
thanks guys managed to find the problem. I enabled those options and it wasnt working so i figured to try a reset, which then worked. BUT due to 3G not being terribly fast, my downloads seem to disconnect or get interupted mid way. Does the screen blacking out, cause the download to disconnect by any chance or would it run in the background fine?
Im not using Wifi, so the wifi timeout wont affect it. Are there any other options that I could try?
THanks
I also had this problem, but downloading Dolphin Browser seemed to resolve it. That, and ASTRO.

I download roms with the screen off (and even with the browser closed. . . well, backgrounded anyway) and I've never had a problem.

Same here... and you can FC the browser even, and it will keep d/l since the d/l app is seperate from the browser/market/et al.
i had a similar issue, uninstalling and reinstalling astro fixed it for me
I'm having only one serious problem with my Vibrant, and while it's a little problem, it's frequent enough that it is driving me nuts, and also doesn't allow me to use (at least) one of the apps I use every day.
The issue is, when I go to some web sites, whether in the stock browser, or in another browser, like Skyfire, or whether it's in the browser within an app (for example NewsRob articles) I get a psuedo-crash where it opens the stock browser and says:
In a pop up box: "Problem with file The requested file was not found. webkit/"
In the browser window itself: The Web page at file://android asset/webkit/ could not be loaded as: The requested file was not found. webkit/
In the address bar: the same url as above.
If I hit back a couple times, it will take me back to whatever content I am looking at. But this is incredibly annoying when it's half the articles I'm trying to go through on NewsRob, or when I click certain links and it comes up and I have to hit back a few times before I can look at the page.
I have noticed the following:
- it seems to happen on pages that use Flash, it might be javascript as well, but I'm not sure. HOWEVER, disable plug-ins and javascript in the browser setting does not change the error from happening.
- thinking that it has to do with Flash, I looked into it more on the device. I noticed in Applications, it shows Flash listed, as well as Pineone Flash lite" so I don't understand what level of flash the phone has.
- I also noticed that (coming from a Nexus One and myTouch Slide) I don't see thumbnails for a lot of flash video content like on those devices. If I got to sites with Flash content that is not a video, it's just not there.
Anyway, if anyone knows how to fix this, I'd be much obliged.
I searched google and found almost NOTHING, which is shocking and makes me think perhaps a hard reset would fix it, but I'd really rather not have to re-set up my phone if it's not going to help.
The only thing I found online was that apparently some Droid X owners are having the same issue.
Anyway, any help would be great.
I have the same issue and just assume that samsung modified the browser so it broke whatever plugin its trying to access. The problem is any articles in newsrob that have an embedded video.

But I've found that it's any link from anywhere that leads to a page that has a video. Which is immensely annoying.
any other ideas? does anyone else have this issue?
Captivate too
My Captivate has same issue. Thought I had broken the phone rooting, enabling sideloading,or hiding the bloatware.
My guess is it's probably related to flash lite 3 which is a plugin preinstalled on the vibrant. I'm going to assume that this problem will disappear once froyo rolls out.

I'm getting the same problem as well on my Samsung Captivate. Very annoying since more than half my articles have links to videos in them.

I tried removing the flash files from /system/app and rebooting. It still happened. Disabling plugins in the browser doesn't help either. Irritating as hell, I sure hope CM6 or the official 2.2 release come out soon and fix this. And the GPS, compass, etc..
I had the same issue with Dolphin Browser HD, but I haven't had the issue yet with the stock Vibrant browser.
Does anybody have any insight on this? It's still plaguing my newsrob whenever there is an embedded video in the feed.
It's a problem with flash lite files. The vibrant has trouble with its implementation.
Not sent from my Vibrant using XDA App 'cause I returned it.
I hate to make froyo this holy messiah but will froyo fix that as well?
I'm actually hoping froyo literally cures cancer.
Btw, I'm on a Captivate, but this topic wasn't in that forum. I thought it would be relatively universal though.
I was wondering if anyone else has issues on their Xoom with all types of downloads, like from marketplace or the web. I get an abnormally high number of failed downloads. Sometimes on the stock browser I have to retry the downloads several times to get them to work. Downloads from the market usually fail when they hit the 100% mark then I have to start them over again.
you don't happen to have low ( less than 3GB) space available, do you? This causes (at least it did, I haven't checked if it still does in 3.1) downloads and updates to fail.
i've never experienced that.

Same issue here since day one

I've had the same issue since owning my xoom.

i have this issue on the xoom AND when using Chrome on my PC.
My. Download fails at like 8k a lot of the time from browser

The only downloads I have been having issues with is large downloads. I have been trying to transfer a couple of large files that are between 3 and 4 GB each and they often fail. I have plenty of space to save them and the web server im pulling them off is within my own network. So I'm not sure what the issue is.
i often download apps from android market, everything works well
Is anyone still having problems like this?
I believe in my case it's gotten worse now. Especially in the case of the Market, downloads fail saying "Insufficient Storage Space" or something about Invalid file and some other error I can't recall right now. This is really starting to piss me off, my phone NEVER has issues like this. Why does the Xoom have this problem?! Why can't they fix it? It doesn't even seem like they are trying.
As far as download on the browser goes, if I use a different browser other than stock, my downloads work just fine. So this seems to be in issue with stock version of Honeycomb apps, like the Market and Browser?
Insanely annoying having to download things 10's of times over and over again just to get them to work.
I'd back up, completely wipe and start over if its that big of problem. I hate wiping however usually within an hour you can have everything back in running.
Same issue since day one. Almost nothing will download on the stock browser from the web. Firefox works 100% of the time, though

Try Astro Filemanager.
Open Astro and go to preferences > tick the Enable Browser Download box and see if that helps.

I have ES File Explorer, so I can't try that. What exactly does that do?
Edit: Also I'd like to add, I've had less failed market downloads since the 3.3.xxxx version we have now. Seems more stable for some reason.

ES File Explorer won't work. Ticking that setting in Astro (it is free) enables downloading of all download types for the native browser.
UPDATED: Release 5.0.1 fixed the problem. Back to being my favorite browser!
If the update to version 5 of Dolphin HD refuses to load pages or won't load them at all on your A500, please go to our blog and comment with specifics so we can refer them to Dolphin in the next day or two.
I had the same problems with the beta version and uninstalled it immedietly. We want to keep this A500 specific, but are interested to know if other devices are having the same issues.
Please comment here:

We are not doing this to make money, so don't click any ad links while on our site unless you see something you just have to click on. (We only make a penny per click anyway).
Let's make sure Dolphin pays attention to this quickly.

works fine for me. i just dont like using it because it doesnt seem to be able to download any file over 1mb. it just saves the html if its over. so im using opera. seems to be a better browser anyway.

Agree i too using Opera Mobile since it can download anything.
Only negative is no Flash in Opera yet.
It's because that Google hasn't open the Android 3.0 source code.
but it seems that Opera Mobile support HTML5.
Yeah, the update gave me problems, it is sporadic and hard to track down. When it occurs the pages fail to load properly, and I have to force the program stopped (application manager or task manager) to restore it to a functional state.
But, when it is working, it is a very nice update...
Same for me...I tried the Dolphin beta and had all sorts of issues where the pages wouldn't load any more. I uninstalled it and went back to the stock browser, which is working pretty well since the update. The previous Dolphin HD version was awesome.
Yesterday I installed the newest released version of Dolphin HD and am sharing it's use with the stock browser. It seems to be working okay, but I haven't done much surfing in the last day or so.
Update
Go the Dolphin home page and under the goole search bar you will see "page loading disturbing you now?". It appears this issue may have been addressed with a new beta. It has worked for me but I have only been using it for a short while.

Solved it for me. I was having problems with both my HTC Evo 4G and my Acer A500 with v5.0.0.
Hi. I have a question about transferring files using the FILEDASH option built into the phone. When I go to the site, I pop up that "Receiving files from OnePlus 6T. If your browser does not support downloading, try to use another one." Of course, I can download any file, but having 100 of them I would have to click each download icon separately and it's terribly tiring. I will add that I tried Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox. Do you know any program for this? Possibly which browser will not have this problem? Thank you very much.
