I have the rooted version of gingerbread. Which is very sluggish and slow, but anyway, can I just wipe data and restore my backup or do I have to flash back to stock, reroot, then restore the backup? Please answer asap! Can't stand this slow rom!

You need to download the Droid 2 bootstrap. The reboot into recovery then clear data/cache and flash.

Not so fast. Correct me if I'm wrong, but for some reason I think I remember reading somewhere that you can't restore to froyo like that. I would sbf back to 2.2 if anything, then root and restore your backup.

re-download your rom and then reflash?
Did you make a nandroid back up with bootstrap? If you didn't, then whatever it was that you backed up were apps and such, there is no backing up without some kind of nandroid backup. If you did boot into ClockwordMod Recovery, go to backup and restore, Restore and there should be the file you backed up.
You will have to start over with the fresh slate you have and if you bricked your phone or something is not working propertly, you will have to SBF with the full SBF .320 file with RSD Lite 4.8 or greater.

I did the same thing. Just gonna have to reflash liberty. Good thing is you dont have to wipe data or cache if your still on liberty.

You are running liberty rom correct? And if so, you can get it from the market.

Yes the recommendation for flash Liberated FR008 is to do a Wipe Data from ClockworkMod before flashing.
You should sync all of your contacts to Gmail using your Google account to preserve them and since you are rooted, you can use Titanium Backup or My Backup Root to save your apps, setting and messages.
Can I flash without wiping data, as the tutorial only says its especially reccomended if im coming from another ROM.
Currently I only have to stock at&T Rom (with some at&t apps removed) installed on my phone

You are coming from a Android 2.1 ROM and flashing an Android 2.2 ROM, so it is a different ROM. This is not a ROM that was made from a 2.1 to 2.2 OTA, so I think the best thing would be to do a rooted backup and then wipe before you flash. I would make a good nandroid backup using ClockworkMod before you flash, too.

Yeah Ive done a nandroid backup. Is all I need to do is to root with clockwork, then nandroid backup, then install the rom?
I dont need it nand unlocked or anything? Also, is it easy to restore from a nandroid backup?

A rooted backup would be to install Titanium Backup or My Backup Root to back up your apps, data and settings. You would install these from the Android Market after you have rooted your phone.

Also, waht is the most stable release of Froyo (with HTC Sense) for the Aria?
I've heard that FR008 can have problems with the reception after a flash.
I guess i can always flash it and see what happens and then restore back if i dont like it.

I have not had any reception issues when I flashed Liberated FR008. It runs just fine for me. I have a WiFi connection both at home and at work, so I leave WiFi all the time and I am very pleased with the battery life.

You basically need to:
- Download clockworkmod recovery and the ROM
- Copy the ROM to the phone
- Reboot to bootloader
- Flash clockworkmod recovery
- Reboot to recovery
- Make a Nandroid backup
- Wipe cache, data and dalvik cache
- Apply the update
- Reboot

Dalvik is the android Java virtual machine. A cache is made of your current programs to speed things up. Best to clear to let your new ROM build a new version.
Nandroid does a complete system backup. It means if things go wrong, you can restore to a working state. This is done through recovery.

The exact location depends on the recovery version you're using, but in 4.0.0.2, nandroid is under Backup & Restore, and wipe-dalvik is under Wipe.
Do I have to use xrecovery for xperia x10i? Or is this only for restoring stock/earlier roms. Sorry if it a noon thing to say, I jus wanna make sure I dont soft brick my phone.

Making a nandroid backup is completely optional. You don't have to, but it does give you a good opportunity to go back in time.
You want to wipe: Factory/Data/Dalvik before flashing a new ROM. Otherwise problems will occur.

I am using clockwork mod touch edition, and I have a full system backup using it. If I decide to flash cm9 to the device and then decide I want to switch back, can I then restore to this backup using cwm? Or do I have to flash to a stock Rom first?

Do I need to do a full factory reset if I bootloop before trying to do CWM restore. I have been unsuccessful in making the restore stick. I have bootlooped a couple of times and the CWM restore would not successfully boot, it too kept bootlooping. SO I was wondering what the HECK am I doing wrong . I need to understand this before diving into the phone too much. Also having problems getting adb to install from the android sdk, but that is probably just not enough time spent looking at proper install instructions. That's what I get when I only have about 30 minutes a day to actually plug into the laptop and work on these things.
I found what I was looking for. Needed to be on working rom then restore works. Got it.

Or so I thought. Do I need to wipe personal data? Basically do the factory restore/reset? If yes then is that done through CWM or through settings menu? In my head I think doing it through CWM is the more appropriate place, then Get to working ROM then do a restore? Final question for this post, do I need to reflash the mods on their own or is that part of the restore.
I have not needed to officially complete a restore as I do not have much that is not already on sd card that I need to keep. But it is important to know how to do a restore in the event it is needed. It does get annoying when I bootloop and can't restore to my previously working settings, especially if it was a setup that I was particularly fond of.
How about this for steps?:
Wipe data
Flash EG04 Deo.zip
Wipe Dalvik
Reboot
Recovery mode
CWM Restore
Reboot
Okay, in trying to follow you on this. If you made a backup with CWM recovery when your phone was working, you should be able to flash it at any time. So let's say for some reason your phone starts bootlooping, you should:
Boot into recovery
Wipe cache partition
Wipe dalvik cashe
Flash your backup
IF your backup had any mods you WILL need to flash them after you flash the backup. If you don't the phone probably will bootloop..
Cross fingers
Reboot phone
Your back up should have been made with a working rom, so you shouldn't need to flash one before you flash the backup.
Someone else please jump in if I missed something!!

And here is even more fun. I was booting up into recovery every time for awhile because it didn't like something I flashed. So I erased all my data and had to reflash eg04 deo twice before it took. Right now rebuilding the phone. Everything seems to be working correctly now. I didn't even try the restore because it didn't work.
Back to the using restore issue. What I'm hearing is that I can flash restore at anytime, and maybe have to flash the mods (is 1-3 TB101 everything mod) if it doesn't boot properly. I use EG04 deo topped with TB 101 mod and ciscogee's i400 SuperSU zip.

That would be correct. I use TB's mods also, and anytime I restore a backup I have to flash the mod too. Not sure why, because the backup "should" have the mod in it also, but that's the way it is.

Today I successfully comlpeted my first restore. I flashed the restore and immediately went and flashed the TB mod and it worked. Very cool, and thanks a lot for the help.
