I want to root my HTC Legend.
Looked through most of the enormous thread "[HOWTO] Rooting your Legend! Guide from MoDaCo" and tried searching in it, but cannot find answer to my situation ...
I have HBOOT-0.43.0003 and Firmware: 2.1-update1, Software number: 2.06.708.2
(1) Do I definitely need to "downgrade to 1.31" before the root procedure in the above thread will work?
(2) I don't have Windows - Is there any way to do this downgrade using a Linux (Ubuntu) PC?
TIA

I desperately need some help.
I just bought a Samsung Galaxy S GT-I9000 (8gb). Here are some details about this phone:
Model Number: GT-I9000
Firmware Version: 2.3.2
Baseband Version: I9000XXJPK
Build Version: Gingerbread.XWJV1
The thing is, I want to root my phone and install custom ROMs and I have absolutely no idea how to do it. I've tried searching everywhere but I can't seem to find out how to do it. There is no information for 2.3.2!
Apparently, 2.3.2 is a beta version and I have no idea how my phone has Gingerbread.
To check whether my phone was already rooted or not, I installed Titanium Backup and it does not run because it needs "root privileges". So, my phone is not rooted.
Please can someone help me on what I need to do? I'm completely lost and desperately in need of help! A step-by-step guide would go a long way!
Thanking you in advance!
The easiest way to root is via super one click. You need to instal the same. You'll find the link in xda forums.

Yes, firstly you need to read the numerous guides already available in xda.
Secondly an excellent single source for firmwares, guides and pc tools is samfirmware.com
Thirdly, and only after you have done extensive research here you desperately need to update your firmware. You must have bought your phone second hand because 2.3.2 JV1 has never been officially released. It was the first leaked alpha release of gingerbread for SGS several months ago and is VERY experimental. An excellent source for current GB 2.3.3 JVH is Ramad's link here > http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1011901
Best of luck...you've bought a cracking phone and the members here are very helpful (as long as you do your bit and thoroughly familiarise yourself with site content)
Thank you ever so much for the kind help!
I managed to find a website that had a step-by-step guide in very little words (but it was a complete guide) and that has helped me with my problems. I've updated to Android 2.3.3.
Yes, this community is great.
I was the same bit just read the development forums and figured it out

Unfortunately CF root doesn't work well with it but this method does: -
How to root and install busybox:
* Download Odin version of FuguRoot: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1010141 (Remember to thank nikademus for his excellent work!)
* Download and extract the original and untouched Kernel:
XWJVH Kernel: Download (5.6 MB) (Double-Click to extract)
XWJVB Kernel: Download (5.6 MB) (Double-Click to extract)
XWJVA Kernel: Download (5.6 MB) (Double-Click to extract)
XXJVK Kernel: Download (5.6 MB) (Double-Click to extract)
* Flash zImage-root tar file as PDA with no pit and no re-partition, let the phone boot until it enters charging mode then disconnect the phone.
* Re-enter Download Mode
* Load the extracted original Kernel tar file as PDA only, no pit and no re-partition, connect the phone and flash the original Kernel.
* Done!
Enjoy your SGS.
Supercurio's kernel is excellent too. I rooted via fuguroot which worked fine, but have now flashed supercurio's.

It all sounds really helpful! I will try this very soon and I hope it works!
Thank you for your constructive input!
Put it in a plant pot cover with compost add water and wait
Hi there,
I've been looking for a way to root my phone and found petrescu's rooting guide. He said there it was tested on V10 A,C, I. My software is v10c-DEC-07-2012, however the process stucks at "Waiting..." sign in the window.
What am I doing wrong? Debugging is turned ON and LG software installed ;|
Thanks in advance!
I'm not sure what Petrescu's guide is but I personally used the rooting method from this link and my L7 was rooted within less than 5 minutes!
Follow the link at the end of this website to unlock the bootloader then follow the link for installing CWM and you won't have any issue.
I haven't found a better guide than this so far...
This is petrescu's guide - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1906133
The rooting method is the same, even files package is identical. While rooting, the shell is stuck at "Waiting..." or a little further at "Waiting for /data/local.prop..."
I've attached the screen.
UPDATE: Posting again for visibility.
Apparently, rooting doesn't work because I have v10C local polish version and I need OPEN version of v10c. Can someone tell me how to flash this?

Ok, I updated the phone to V20C ( Android 4.1.2 ) version. What is the method of rooting this software?
[EDIT] Finally rooted my phone with Framaroot app. Thanks for the "tremendous" support I guess.
hi guys just new here at htc glacier forum so be patient with me.
here's the thing:
i wanted to root my friends phone with information as stated below:
software info
android version 2.3.4
htc sense ver 2.1
software number
2.32.531.1
kernel version 2.6.35.10-g4dbcb781 [email protected] #1
this is what i am thinking for rooting the said device:
1. by downloading and flashing this CWM
link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1242901
2. after flashing the CWM i will try to boot on CWM and flash the flashable SuperSU.zip downloaded here at xda.
my question is, WILL THIS METHOD WORK?

I've been trying to find a way to root this phone for about a week now. All the guides I've found on here are either outdated or having missing files. And haven't had anyone reply to my post for help. If you find a way I'd appreciate it if you could let me know, and if I find anything that works I'll let you know. Good luck.
First I will start off by apologizing if this has been answered in a different post. I have search and searched but end up with conflicting answers. That being said.,
I have a S5
G900V
Version 5.0
G900VVRU2BOG5
Kernal 3.4.0
Build # LRX21T.G900VVRU2BOG5
Hardware G900V.05
Knox (what ever that means) 2.3
Config J13.SAM.SMG900V.1
Can I root this phone?
If not can I recover any photos after a factory reset with out rooting the phone?
If I can recover photos without rooting what is the best post to follow for directions?
If I can root it what is the best link or post to follow?
I appreciate the knowledgeable people here that will help and guide me to the answers that I seek.
Thanks again,
T
Same problem here. Locked bootloader by Verizon. Several threads mentioned this problem making it not possible to load firmware from earlier versions. Awaiting a solution from other hackers/developer community. Pay for root software solutions not working either at this time.
