debranding dhd

im trying to debrand the vodafone desire hd, its unlocked but the vodafone boot up and the pointless links are really annoying me,
is there anyway i can do this without having to lose any of my existing settings, i.e. contacts, calendar, gallery, etc. i just want this pointless sh#t off my phone
i believe i may need to root, but im not really sure how to do this, ive read up on a few methods but im not even sure how to access a terminal on the dhd, on the n900 it was all preloaded so if anyone could give me some quick info on this,
Sure
Make sure to read the guides in here first
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=821220
Do this first
-Root and S-OFF your Desire HD the "easy" version!
Then this
-ClockworkMod recovery for HTC Desire HD
And after you've done all this you should be fine to install custom roms
ok im trying to make some sense of the link you posted
i tried deleting the com.vf and sz voda files from the system/app folder, but it says it cannot delete

You can't delete anything from /system without perm root and s-off. With perm root only it will reappear when you reboot.
So you need to perm root with visionary, s-off, then you need to either flash an insecure boot.img or remount /system as read-write using either adb, terminal emulator or (the easy way) root explorer.
After all that you will be able to remove system files using either command line or root explorer app.
The easiest way to fix to de brand would be to use a stock ruu but you will have an empty phone after that.
Sent from my Desire HD by magic.
how do you enter recovery mode without update.zip? not too sure where to get this from
i suggest go to the app dev threads and read the stickies.
it should tell u basically the background.
u cant just jump in without knowing the background as to ..why you need s-off and why u need recovery..and why u need to have perm root..
yes i know..we want quick solutions..but for your benefit it will be better if u just read and start first by..doing small steps at a time
Hey i came from Galaxy S and rooting and flashing are so much different in that world is not funny!..

[Q] Root after OTA

Has anyone gotten their fascinate rooted after the OTA Update? I uses to use z4Root but.this is no longer working. It goes rhough the steps but none of the root apps can get super uswr access. I prefer one touch as I dont feel comfotable typing in all the commads for it to be hooked up to the pc
Dirrk's EZ Root v0.2
I was able to edit the START_ROOT.bat file in Dirrk's EZ Root v0.2 so the it would pause for 120 seconds instead of 60 seconds after the first phone reboot. Then, after the reboot, unplug the USB from the phone and reconnect it. I'm not sure if this will work for everyone, but it worked for me.

there is a 1 click guide on i believe android central that is very easy. all you do is plug in your phone to a cpu download the .zip and open a file, then leave your phone alone for about 5 minutes and its done. it worked for me when z4 failed.. that was the first time i used anything other than z4 and was a little concerned but it was as easy as z4.. if not easier seeing as that z4 caused my phone to lock up a few times while it was in the process
EDIT: Here is the link.. you will need to register at android central to get the file but its very easy.

This worked! I did do two things as it would error in the beginning. I changed the pause time in the file on the reboot to 120 seconds instead of the 60 as suggested in one post and I had to unplug my usb cable and plug it back in after the first reboot. Easy none the less, thank you!
Okay...it wont let me edit cause im a newb. The root worked or so I thought but now when I run Titanium backup it says it cant acquire root access. Any Ideas on this anyone?

Check and see if you have the Superuser app in your apps list. If not, download it from the Market, and then see if your apps that require root access work or not.
Yes I have the super user APP. The apps are just saying they aren't getting root access. They are in the list as well.

this worked for me, i used it last night
I was working on this last night. Z4root installs su to system/bin, while the 2nd root method installs to system/xbin. The ota changed the file permissions for su, but left the file in tact. That's why the one click mod will say your rooted (it sees the su file), but apps won't have root access.
I had to go old school and chmod the su file in system/bin rebooted and got root access again.
For anyone that used a one click root method like z4 root, and still hasn't done the ota update un root the phone first!
On the road but I will post instructions on how I re-rooted in a few hours as well as the specific files needed.
*actually from what I recall, any files needed are included in the one click root mentioned above.

**Follow instructions in this post http://forum.androidcentral.com/526222-post739.html
except, when you get to the portion that says
cd /system/xbin , replace that with cd /system/bin
(I believe only z4root users that did not unroot need to change this, or anyone who has su copied to their /bin directory without the root.)
everything is exactly the same... It's much better linking the post than copying the info again.
My phone w/ OTA dl09 is rooted successful by using Fascinateforums method.

[Q] Rooting problems on mt4g

I know there are many threads pertaining to rooting with bootloader 0.86.. andos version 2.2.1, but i simply cannot do it...
I have tried visionary and can gain temp root but obviously cant get it to permaroot.
I am very new to this (again obviously). I downloaded androzip and unzipped the gfree files, to sdcard, but when i try to move them to /data/ it wont allow me to do it, even when temp rooted, keeps telling me its not allowed.
I have tried time and time again, just cant do it, can anyone dumb it down for me, more so than before... im just missing something, def doing it wrong lol.
Thanks!
The method that only worked for me wasn't on this forum. It was on youtube or google or something. Try googling mt4groot.zip or youtube mytouch 4g root, the video has a little views.

you need to have "set system set to r/w" checked when you temp root. VISIONary will not let you have r/w access to the /system folders until you do that. you also need to use a Root Access File Manager like Super Manager to move/edit/delete stuff from the /system folder grouping.

TF101 Problem, kinda lost OS root?

Hoping for some help because I've ran into some really odd issues with SuperUser/root on my TF101.
I used the guide in the Dev Forum and flashed to Prime 1.4, everything was great and working well. I made a Nandroid of my base to fall back on.
ChainsDD updated SuperUser on 6/10 or 6/11 and I accepted the update from the market. When I launched SU, I was prompted to update the Binary, I granted SU root access and it said it completed. However, since then, no app that requires root has requested SU according to the log and Kernel Manager is telling me I don't have root.
If I open Terminal Emulator, it is automatically at a # rather than a $
In Root Explorer, tapping the Mount R/W button changes to R/O and I was able to successfully create and delete a test folder in /system
I need to get SuperUser functioning again, any thoughts or ideas?
What's a TF104 model device?
Um. you do know that # in terminal emulator indicates that the app currently has root access?
Open superuser, its being recognized as permanent root because you allowed it to have root access.
And its TF101 not TF104.
Sorry, misread the model...
I know the # means root that's why the title is kinda lost root...
I'm not getting any of the notifications that SuperUser granted access, like I used to. Also, Kernel Manager isn't being granted Root access when I launch it
I think the SuperUser binary update failed, I got the binary from goo-inside.me and flashed it from CWM. Then I cleared the SuperUser app data and launched it. I was again prompted to update the binary version. It failed and prompted me to to flash a zip that it downloaded to my SD card. That zip is a 0kb file.
Try downloading superuser from the market.

Also, Superuser is now randomly Force Closing on launch.
Talked with ChainsDD, it's a problem with how he compiled Super User for honeycomb. Fix will be released tomorrow.

[Q] Root question

As if there aren't enough "root" threads already here is another one, when looking at Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper there are checkboxes for ( among other things ) "Device rooted" and "Root permission granted" what's the difference ?
'Device rooted' tells it that the device is rooted, and it will save SU and busybox.
Id imagine the 'root permissions granted' will also save the settings for SU, so you wont have to re-accept all apps that you already given root permission to.
Hi there thanks for the answer, I still don't totally understand, If I've got root access then the device by definition must be rooted !
