Sony Ericsson Xperia Acro leaks on its way to Japan
Vlad Bobleanta By Vlad Bobleanta on 29 Mar 11
A new Sony Ericsson device has leaked earlier today. It’s part of the Xperia line, and as such presumably runs Android. It’s called the Sony Ericsson Xperia Acro, and it looks a whole lot like the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc that was unveiled at CES in January.
The Acro may just be a rebranded Arc headed to Japan, and even if not, it’s clearly a close relative of the Arc – the design is very similar, if not identical. According to Xperia Blog, the Acro will have a 1 GHz single-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, a 4.2-inch touchscreen, and an 8.1-megapixel Exmor R camera. If those specs sound familiar, it’s because they’re identical to the Arc’s.
What you see above is a screenshot taken from Sony Ericsson’s PC Companion software tool in Japan, and it’s how we’ve come to find out about the Xperia Acro’s existence. There are two Acros listed as you can see, one is meant for NTT DoCoMo and is a HSPA device, and the other is CDMA-based and presumably headed to KDDI.
The Sony Ericsson Xperia Acro is expected to launch in Japan in May or June. By then, we’ll probably know more about the device, and specifically whether or not it’s just a rebranded Arc. At this time, the most plausible explanation for the Acro is that it will be a slightly chubbier Arc, with added NFC support, TV tuner, and an infrared port. These three features are seemingly very important in Japan, and so a high-end smartphone could not launch there lacking any of them. We’ll see.

The Acro is currently Japan's CDMA-2000 variant of the Arc, they changed the name because it will have a flat rather than arching back as a result of extra components.
It'll be launching on KDDI au in early May as the IS11S (working name "Akane").
Differences when compared to the regular Arc apart from the network chip will be just the inclusion of Japanese domestic functions such as NFC, 1-seg TV tuner and an IR port.
Not yet confirmed is whether the SO-02C will be Docomo's future refresh of the current SO-01C Arc model, with said Japanese features and support for their upcoming LTE launch. Neither "Acro" model will be sold abroad though.
I need Rom stock sony arcro CDMA S0i11, please help me.

I just hope it will be only better in terms of support and R&D.
It's a huge company able to blow HTC or even Nokia.
I keep fingers crossed for top notch Xperias.
Hope they come up with a new phone fast as my Arc is a year old in June and normally I buy a new device after a year.

Nothing is changing really. The part of Ericsson that was working on consumer phones is now just owned by Sony too. Same people working on the phones.
The only thing that might change is more integration between Sony products and SE phones. For example: Sony is working on an Android-based Walkman, they might base their software off SE's Android. Would save them a lot of work. And the audio enhancements in the Walkman may be easily ported to the SE devices, and vice versa.
We might also be seeing more integration between Sony TV's and smartphones. Sony will be switching to Google TV 2.0 for their televisions quite soon as far as I know.

That's not good.
I'd rather they fire all the Ericsson people and move everything back to Japan.

Stupidest thing I have read today. Ericsson is a pioneer in communication technology. I can almost guarantee every phone call you make, goes through an Ericsson communication node. They are used all over the world.

Because that would be so easy, not to mention fair.
"Let's fire thousands of people because you feel unsatisfied by your Arc."

Good news I think.
Sony have always made top-notch products, and have the manufacturing capabilities of brining world beating stuff to market quickly (Blu-Ray for example).
This will only bee good, it's going to be Sony-Ericsson on speed. bigger and better and more integrated products.
I expect we'll see the End of March launch (as is typical with SE) of their next top of the range handset, branded SONY instead of SE.. and also SE have really made massive leaps in the android market this year.. next year I think they'll start to take significant market share off the likes of HTC and Samsung...

An unknown Sony Ericsson Xperia model received Bluetooth certification yesterday and in the process unveiled the new Xperia Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich firmware version number as 6.0.A.1.94. As a quick reminder, the latest firmware on the 2011 Xperia models is 4.0.2.A.0.58 (Android 2.3.4). Sony Ericsson went to great lengths to keep exactly which phone was tested under wraps. On the Bluetooth listing details it used the codename “New eDream6” for the design name (this would normally include the model number such as LT15i, LT26i etc) and the design model number simply had a “TBD” next to it (this would normally have the model name such as Xperia X10, Xperia arc etc).
The name ‘New eDream6′ is revealing in itself as eDream is the internal codename that Sony Ericsson uses for its software version numbers for Xperia smartphones. For example, the current software on the 2011 Xperia line up is eDream4. The immediate question this then brings is where is eDream5? Could it be that Sony Ericsson reserved eDream5 for Honeycomb and is using eDream6 for ICS? After all this is exactly what CyanogenMod has done moving from CM7 (Gingerbread) to CM9 (ICS). Now we just have to wait to see this ’6′ firmware version hit PTCRB for 2011 Xperia models to verify all of the above.

So according to sony it's in certification state ICS will be available soon
Here is the older certificate of Xperia Arc,
so the hardware version differ.. So what can we expect ? It's xperia Arc HD release ? or Xperia Arc release ?
TBD Stand for :
To Be Determined
To Be Done
To Be Developed
To Be Discussed
To Be Defined
To Be Decided
Well, after seing this great news, it makes my heartbeat goes faster.
But will they really launch the ICS soon?
In our experience..
Sony always release the firmware update later than the other phone..
Like froyo.. gingerbread..
I hope they make a break trough this time. And surprise the Sony's users

Rumored Q3 Flagships : Xperia Cybershot ,Xperia Walkman & an iphone Assasin
Rumors of possible smartphones from Sony that will be out in Q3 2013.
According to a tip received by Phone Arena, Sony is readying three more smartphones which will feature Sony’s impressive Cyber-shot camera and Walkman tech. Here is a rundown of what can be expected from these devices -
First is a 5-inch Sony Xperia Cyber-shot phone. It will allegedly have the best smartphone camera around, and will feature a sensor size almost equal to the Nokia PureView 808, along with Carl Zeiss optics. Unlike the PureView 808, the addition of such a camera will not affect the design aesthetics of the device. The other specifications are also high-end.
The second is a 5-inch Xperia Walkman phone which will feature an amplifier chip and every feature that the Walkman technology has to offer. The specifications are also expected to be high-end.
The third will take on the iPhone directly, with a small form factor and display size, with the camera and other specifications similar to that of the previously mentioned Xperia Cyber-shot.

Doesn't seem compelling enough to warrant a purchase.
Xperia Z already has a great camera and Walkman app. Why buy stand alone products which will probably cost the same amount?
BS.
Maybe because they are supposed to be better than the Z?
The camera one will have a better captor, flash, in fact camera in general
The walkman one will have an amplificator, a sound treatment, what doesnt have the Xperia Z, what is the case for the HTC One
That would be nice as i am Cybershoot user for a few years.

z1 probably won't because of the camera software, ZU can because everything can be running on a generic driver for Nexus 5.

yum yum, z ultra is reletevly close to z1, mybe it whould be easy to port ultra clean kitkat rom to z1?
It's possible. If there is ever going to be a Google Play Edition it should be announced before Christmas, otherwise don't get your hopes up.
Doubt it. Every other manufacturer only has one "Google Edition" device. No reason to see why Sony would be any different.

Same as the Ultra benefits from the Z1. They have identical SoC and hardware (except for the camera), so there will probably be some cross-development (same as the Galaxy S2 and Galaxy Note). Sony released the GPE sources now btw, so it's on!
That's what I would like to know.
Besides the very custom Camera software, how easy would it be to turn a standard Z1 into a GPE Z1?
will GPE ZU help in any way?

ok, I liked this part from Sony Blog post:
Along with brand new Android features, Sony Z Ultra Google Play edition also comes with some of our unique Sony tech – BRAVIA smarts; TRILUMINOS™ display for mobile and X-Reality™ for mobile picture engine, and our hallmark Exmor RS™ for mobile image sensor, for immersive viewing experiences and optimum camera performance respectively.

so if that GPE includes drivers for ExmorRS then maybe there's hope to import it to Z1 as well and keep the camera functionality?
fingers crossed.
