[Boot Animation] Android Bios Boot animation - XPERIA X8 General

Hi guys,
if you want to change your boot animation with something cooler, you can check out what this thread from the HTC subforum. Of course you have to be rooted to do it. So simply choose HTC Dream styles, which look very nice on our X8s. Download the zip file and extract the bootanimation.zip to your SD card. Then open the Root Explorer and copy the file in your /system/media folder. You should change the permissions to rw-r--r--, or simply see the permissions of your original file and after copying the new file make the permissions look the same.
I hope you enjoy this as much as I do!

Yes, but you need to modify it a bit. What you have to do is the following:
Copy the bootanimation.zip that has the HackDroid splash screen to your computer
Extract the contents of the file and find the folder named part0
The first few *.png files are actually the "splash screen"
Copy those and leave them aside
Now extract the "bios boot animation" file and in part0 put those "HackDroid" files
Very important is to rename each of the consecutive files, so that you don't mess up the animation
Repack again and put the "cooked" bootanimation.zip in your \system\media folder
Dot forget to backup your current installation, in case it doesn't work for some reason
Hope that helps

I thought about that before, but..
Id look at Floyo bootanimation.zip, there is no hackdroid png, and there is only 1 part,
which is floyo animation..

Yep, I also checked this and you are correct unfortunately
But this should mean that the HackDroid splash screen has nothing to do with the bootanimation, so if you change it, the HD splash should still show. Have you tested this already? I'm with J's V006a so I have no HackDroid screen at boot.

yes.. this had nothing to do with bootani. now I'm using my own bootani, HD still there.
is not that I don't like it, but I wonder how racht do it.. & if I can do it, ill remove that SE splash..

OK! Could you please report if the HD splash stays or not!

yup.. still there

How to change boot animation for rooted SGS?

I have rooted my SGS and would like to change the boot animation to the original. I have already got the original boot animation .png files but I do not know how to replace it to current animation files.
Anybody?
if they are in the .qmg format, then i think you have to push your .qmg file to
system/media/
if they aren't then you have to make an update.zip file and put the files in appropriate folder and update your phone.
search the forum for more info on how to..

Changing Boot Screen Problem...???

Well i have a Samsung Vibrant rooted with OCLF and running Launcher Pro. I tried to change my boot screen which i read up on here before doing. I read on this forum theres is 2 ways to actually do it, which is using the command on your pc which im not too good with codes so i tried the 2nd option which is to copy and paste using the Root Explorer. So i copied the bootanimation.zip from SD card while on mount r/w and paste it to system/media and then reboot. I still have the stock boot up not sure if i did something wrong, this is my 1st android phone which i like way better than my Icrap so any help will be appreciated.

Why dont you give this a try
USE THE GALAXY I9000 BOOTUP / SHUTDOWN ANIMATIONS & SOUND
rko did an awesome job with these flashable bootup/shutdown animations (place them on the /sdcard (internal memory) NOT sdcard/sd (external). Be sure and thank him for his work!

Thanks to s15274n
i tired it it doesnt work either comes up with error code
You have to have a rom that has a hacked kernel that allows for support of bootanimation.zip the stock vibrant rom does not have this ability (Thankyou Samsung), so simply putting the file in the correct folder will do nothing if you don't have the kernel that utilizes it. Currently there are 2 roms that will work with this:
Obsidian V2 - JK2 Official Froyo Based 2.2
or
Froyo Macnut R10
you put the .zip files in /system/media which is NOT the right way of doing it
extract the zip file anywhere on your desktop and copy the bootsamsung.qmg into your internal sdcard.
then run root explorer on your phone, copy the same .qmg file from your sdcard into /system/media folder

A bootanimation.zip is a zip with a series of images in it, there is no qmg in it. The OP was not asking about the qmg I don't think. He wants to be able to use his own bootscreens which cannot be done with qmg, only with bootanimation.zip and a hacked kernel.

meaning hes dropping the whole zip file into /system/media through root explorer
i just told him the proper way of doing it as it was discussed here
the only mistake i did was use the "bootanimation.zip" as reference
since OP didnt even mention where he got the bootanimation.zip and i assumed things
im sorry about the confusion
ok sorry for the confusion and i thank you both for the responses.Lets see if i can explain it a little better.(It wont let me post a link but i found it here on XDA which is the THC boot up) the bootanimation.zip file i was trying to use which does not have the qmg for me to extract so i tried to put in system/media which did not work. Then i tried chichu_9 boot up screen which he recommended and did exactly as motoyola did which i extracted the qmg file and put in sd card (not external) then copy/paste into system/media which replaced the stock qmg file for the vibrant then i reboot and still stuck with the stock boot up screen. I am currently running Eugenes leaked 2.2 rom which works pretty good so far just cannot change boot screens for some reason so if i missed something or did something incorrect pls feel free to correct me and thanks in advance.....

Change boot anim from a custom ROM?

How do you change the boot animation from a ROM like Taboonay or Honeyvillain?
Download the boot animation to your desktop, then copy it to your microsd card or your zip drive, then go to your tab ,open a program like root explorer,go to the folder with the boot animation, copy, navigate to data/local and paste the boot animation to that folder, make sure you rename it to:bootanimation.zip.Thats it,reboot and there should be a new boot screen.

[Q] Mytouch 4G orginal boot animation

Can anyone tell me how to change the boot animation to the orginal mytouch 4g animation ?
I recently flashed virtuous unity 2.35 rom. It works great, but i really miss my original mytouch boot animation.
Please help, I need boot & shutdown animations......
In my opinion.. the easiest way to replace the boot animation is to use Root Explorer (or other r/w file explorer). Just navigate to the system/media directory. Then rename the bootanimation.zip file to old and copy it to your sdcard. Then place the bootanimation.zip file that you are going to use in the system/media directory. After you verify that the new animation works you can delete your backup if you like.
But i need the original boot animation files to replace the virtuous unity animations.
Is there any way to find it? Do anyone have a link?

Post 34...just rename and replace file as stated in post above yours....
The bootanimation on Sense ROMs resides in /system/customize/resource/ rather than /system/media.

Custom boot animations not working

So I've been trying to get a boot animation I've been working on for this phone to work and the old method of just putting the zip in the system/media or system/customize/resource folder seems to no longer work. I read a few places about having to edit a bootimage bin file but could only find info on that for Samsung phones and qmg files. Just hoping someone can point me in the right direction to learn the new process for our phone
need to replace vzw_bootup.zip to replace the boot animation on the Verizon model not bootanimation.zip. it is also case sensitive so when replacing the file notice how its typed. like VZW_bootup or vzw_bootup.zip etc...
you were in the right folder, the resources folder
I think there's more to it than just that. I have tried to open the vzw_bootup.zip with 7-zip and it doesn't recognize the file. In addition, the splash screens instead of being in a separate partition (sp1 on the M9 and A9) are in \system\customize\resource as splash_screen.png (and is invoked by default.xml in \system\customize\cid.
I have done that. If it's named anything but vzw_bootup.zip it simply loads the default Android boot but if I put a modified boot animation with vzw_bootup.zip as the name it only shows the splash screen right up until my home screen loads. I've given correct permissions and everything. Something about the bootanimation binary file is checking for the correct png files or something in the zip.
Update: I pulled the notification binary file from leedroid (dunno if it's any different just figured I'd try) and ticked permissions for all on the binary file just like the vzw_bootup.zip has and the custom animation somewhat works now. It is skipping half of the second folder but I assume that's something I did.
Deleted. (hit reply instead of edit) =/

I've done it already. It's as simple as that. It's case sensitive, I couldn't get it to work, I copied the text right off the file in root explorer pasted it onto the new animation zip. Asked to replace, I replaced it. Rebooted to the new animation.
