When is the next Dell 5 inch Streak coming out?
Hi,
it seems to be "Opus One" at the beginning of 2012:
http://www.androidcentral.com/gallo...lver-oak-android-tablets-dells-leaked-roadmap
regards
That's a pretty tentative roadmap. It lists Hcomb as the supposed OS, when by Jan. of next year, they will most certainly be one if not two OS revisions beyond it.
This is also assuming they are still going to be coming out with a Streak 5 replacement.
And Windows 8 hasn't received any kind of date.
I would love for it to be true though.

i think its going to be either april or may, cause they have dicontinued the dell streak from best buy,i got the last white one in atlanta georgia....well there is maybe 1 or 2 at the perimiter best buy.and they droped the price to 50$ a few weeks ago.....so i think their getting ready for the opus one.
Windows 8 is due for release first quarter of 2013 if you believe everything you read but it does sound about right because it is due to be in beta around DEC- Feb 12
Looking at that roadmap , I'd say the new 5" will be out X-Mas of this year.
It looks like they left a small gap at the end of December of where the current models ends.

I for one will be getting it, Just could not see myself going back to a smaller screen
I will be waiting for the next streak. Can't settle for anything other than 5 inch screen
Sent from the almighty Dell Streak 1.9.0
I, too, can't imagine going back to anything, at least nothing smaller than 4". Even the 4" screens seem small these days.
I went from Streak to Atrix. The Atrix is small even by 4" screen standards. It still feels so tiny even after a couple weeks.
I would surely be interested in a new 5" phone with dual core though.
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
dual-core, 4G (whenever AT&T launches LTE), and 5-7", better resolution too, something like Retina Display...
yeah baby!
I wish!
qHD is what the higher end android phones seem to be gravitating towards, starting with the Atrix.

i cant wait i have to have it
I can't wait to have it either! My request is for a bigger battery. With a 5" screen it would be cool if the battery took more space. That said, I wouldn't want to make the device any thicker than it currently is... can I have it both ways please?!?!
Can't wait to have it either.
Just like chrisrotolo posted, better camera, and a bigger screen size 6 - 7 inch.
Basically a tablet that can make phone calls. It wouldn't hurt to have a full usb port or 3 as well. More ram and a quad core processor, and this would be the perfect phone
quad-core, nice! yes 8MP cam 4 LED's flash, at least 5MP HD front cam, who wants to have a video chat in VGA??, and standard 4000mAh battery upgradeable to 6000mAh!

I wonder why no one has made a phone like this yet. I know a lot of people that would buy it, no matter the cost.
Im hopefully becoming a user next with with my dell streak next week. I know you guys are looking for 5 plus inches but have yall heard of the samsung infuse. Its a 4.5 inch screen but no dual processor with 16gb internal and the super amoled + screen. Its probably to small for yall now but something to look forward to.

Well, I agree on the OS front android is still the better and iOS 4 is trying to do a catch up. But, I have to hand it to the iPhone 4 hardware , it does look amazing.
I like the 720p recording and retina display... But the OS still sucks. If only we could get developers to make GOOD apps, not some half-baked ones.
The hardware specs being released in the new iPhone is way way better than the n1. I'm actually jealous because of the front facing camera. And the new display resolution is unreal.

The only thing that may have the EVO 4g beat is the processor, but I'd bet my left arm that snapdragon + JIT > an A4
720p at 30 FPS, Retina display, Gyro motion, 7 hours talk time. 6 hours of 3G browsing, 10 hours of WiFi browsing, 10 hours of video. 40 hours of music. 300 hours of standby, A4 processor, 32 GB internal storage, 9.3mm thick, etc, etc.
No one can dispute that the new iPhone is the best phone from a hardware standpoint. This phone is also going to take mobile gaming to a whole new level. I'd still much rather prefer Android OS, but as a fan of technology in general I have to say that Apple stepped their game up with this phone. Android app development will have to continue to grow at a rapid pace to keep up.
It is the highest res I've heard of for a phone. But it isn't that much more than the N1. Just the next step I guess. The N1 has about 250 or 260 DPI, right?

I'd like to see some benchmarks because we all know the 2.2 Nexus One was running laps around an iPad!
I'll admit there were some things that had me think "darn I wish my phone could do that" and then I remembered how awesome push to phone is.

Can't wait till someone make FroYo run on iPhone 4.
Steve says the screen of iphon4 is 4x bette than 3gs. uuhm did you ever compared 3gs screen with n1? the N1 is also 4x better than 3gs. so i'm not really jalous at that.
The OS doesn't ad somethin that i can say WOW! what comes to ios4 we have it on android. even they failed with connection on 4g everyone had to turn off wifi, the 3gs loaded fine :S whahahha
though the battery life looks great
the new (unreleased) iPhone does have a higher res screen, better video camera (could be just software/drivers) and the new gyroscope sensor. However iOS4 is still way behind Android
Our 6 month old Nexus has a bigger size screen
lol @ "retina display", apple sure is good at creating new buzz words which the flock absorbs and repeats. (baaaa)
I wish Sony had stepped up to Googles offer of collaborating on a phone.
Too bad there aren't any Android phones coming out with a res to match or exceed the iDont4 (960x640)
Yup the resolution on the screen looks sick, but it' just too smal. After having 2 phones with 3.7" displays I can't go down to 3.5". My next phone will probably have a 4" or bigger screen anways.
The hardware on the new iphone is very slick though.
yes the screen is better (higher res), and yes there is a front facing camera.
its been 5 month and our phone is just as competitive, hardware wise, as it was when it was released.
on the OS side, there is no comparison. apple was not ready for froyo. they have lots of catching up to do. i still think the iOS 4 (lol) is stuck in 2007.
not really that impressed.
The "iphone 4" does have by far the best video camera I have ever seen on a phone. I am actually very surprised by how good the still pictures of it look.
The overall question is though, did the iphone 4 with iOS 4 beat what google did weeks ago with the 2.2 Froyo Nexus 1? I don't think so, but even though that was shown off 3 weeks ago (seriously google WTF!?) I got a feeling you will be able to buy an iphone 4 before you can get the "official" Froyo OTA update.
OK.....I want the face to face calling...that's about it.
No one will use that crap face time because everyone is obsessed about battery time. Rofl.

video calling with iphones only? only on wifi?
video calling has existed in some places in europe since 2006, and there is a reason why its not widespread, people dont care about video calls.
One thing for sure...Apple is still good at creating 'Eye Candy'.

Ahh I see. I saw the leaked photo of the US Galaxy S2 family and while they're all nice I can't help but think the International version looks better. Plus I'm not sure whether I'd fancy the bigger screen, 4.3" seems to be the sweet spot for myself.
Here we are, with our SGSII's... as early adopters....
And now they release what it probably should have been in the first place with proper firmware probably.
Oh well, it's always the same
good bye SGS2 !
wait until they are benchmarked and the first problems arise.
I wonder if it's a Qualcomm SOC or Exynos. Exynos demolishes Qualcomm's offerings at the moment

Its good and bad at the same time I think. Gonna stick it out for a long yime with the sgs2 but the cravings will persisy unfortunately. No cravings yet though, love this phone.
agreed to #15.
1) is there a need for another 0.2" of screen estate?
my take : 4.3" sgs2 is the sweet spot for me. i have trouble swiping my thumb across the whole screen already.
2) is there a need for an extra 0.3mhz of processor or 1850mah battery?
my take : setcpu is the answer.
extended battery pack aren't expensive on ebay.
My opinions
The extra processing power and screen estate will nullify the increase in capacity of batt. furthermore, the perennial dual core issue is still unfixed in 2.3.4. and samsung have the balls to release another "beta" phone.
my hunch
samsung is trying hard to best iphone5 and downplay it's "wow factor" in sept. notice the link? 4.5, dual core 1.5, it's all marketing numbers. like megapixel wars. no doubt, people will start comparing iphone 5 with 4.5" S2 in terms of raw power. that's what sammy wants.
but for what apple did, whoring over patents. go smash iphone5 to pieces man, sammy. we'll love a phone war anytime.
conclusion
4.5" S2 is a marketing gadget.
SGS2 has already covered much that we (a typical consumer) need.
If there's anything to look, go for tablets tegra kai-el releasing in a few months time.
I'm sure 4.5" S2 would look like phone drenched in cat piss in a few months time.
go for 4.5" S2 if...
you want lte.
you want nfc. ironically 4.3" S2 korea has it.
you use gadgets, not the other way around! ^^;
If they improve the sound quality and Supercurio brings voodoo to it, I'll be all over it.

Decent analysis and I think I pretty much concur. However, I don't think (and I'm not suggesting that you do either) that Samsung are doing this to piss off early adopters or force us to upgrade - they haven't even changed the name for starters, so there is no real sense of this being something new.
Marketing gimmick? Possibly, but only hardcore techies are going to be influenced by the marginal increase in specs.
So I suspect that the bits they use to make the device have moved on - if you can get a 4.5" screen at the same price as the old 4.3", why not use it...?
This is a gentle evolution in my book, not a massive statement.
If you have a GS2 there is no reason at all to go for that phone, a 4.5" screen imo will make the phone a little on the large side and this phone can be over-clocked if desired, I don't see the point of it.
What about SUPER AMOLED HD display that was talked about ??
As announced by Eric Schmidt. How soon after the Prime is released will the Nexus S get it? How soon after the Nexus S came out did the nexus 1 get GB?
Samsung GT-I9250 'confirmed' as Google Nexus Prime
www.techradar.com/news/phone-and-co...i9250-confirmed-as-google-nexus-prime-1017480
From the Article
Samsung's upcoming GT-I9250 smartphone has been pretty much confirmed as the Google Nexus Prime based on the handset's user agent profile (UAP) hosted on a Samsung-owned website.
Sitting on the wap.samsungmobile.com domain, the UAP is titled nexusprime.xml and makes reference to the model number GT-I9250 – we already guessed that this would be the Nexus Prime, leaving the GT- I9220 as be the Samsung-branded version of the phone.
The other sliver of information gleaned from the file is that the handset will have a 480x800 WVGA resolution display – which fits with the rumoured Super AMOLED screen we've been hearing so much about.
The prime of life
Sadly there's no indication of whether or not the remaining speculated specs are accurate – we still have our fingers crossed for a 1.5GHz dual core processor.
One thing that seems certain is that if this launches as the Google Nexus Prime, the handset will be the Ice Cream Sandwich launch device.
With everyone and his dog anticipating an autumn release for the next Google OS, the Nexus Prime's release date can't be far off now.

I was kind of hoping the rumors about the Prime having a Super Amoled HD screen were true :/
I wont be getting a Prime, but Ill be interested to see the direction things are going with regards to screen size. Personally I find the 4" screen on the NS just about perfect. Anything wider than that is much less pocket friendly.
supposedly:
4.5" SAMOLED+ HD display (as in SAMOLED+ v2.0)
Dual Core snapdragon 1.5 Ghz CPU
16GB or 32GB internal storage depending on model
NO microsSD support just like Nexus S
same 540 gpu
same 5 MPIX camera
same rounded corners
same NFC
same GPS
same WiFi
same BT
1650 mAh battery
supposedly 1GB RAM
supposedly going to be released by Verizon first (i guess Tmobile finally lost the bit, all past Nexus devices was always released 1st by Tmobile)
Nexus 3 (prime) is going to be produced by SAMSUNG
and yes the default stock OS will be IceCream
all these info was pulled from many different sites and speculations, so take it with a grain of salt

Given the time frame Samsung has given for rollout of the new screens and the screen sizes they'll be initially available for, this seems possible, but I'm not sure it ascends to the level of likely. Still, I'm with you in hoping.
i'll probably get the Samsung Nexus 3 if they really releases it with 32GB for Tmobile
a Nexus is always by far a much safer choice, when you want to have the latest and newest in the development arena
however the short of microSD and old 5mpix camera is really a big no no for me
Samsung Galaxy 2 for Tmobile (aka Hercules) has the perfect spec that i seek, but development support is a wild bet, at least it'll have CM7
More "SD" space is good, though if they do that I hope they also increase the "internal" partition. For my purposes, though, a storage expansion isn't a big deal. For me, the biggest things hardware wise are camera (a better camera that takes better pictures, not necessarily an 8+ MP one), RAM (I'll be very disappointed to see less than 1GB, and I wouldn't even say no to twice that), and battery life (if you can make it last twice as long by making the phone a few millimeters thicker, for god's sake, just make the phone thicker). T-Mobile compatibility is also important for me, but just in general I think having it available on more carriers faster (preferably simultaneously) is better.
All the other goodies are fine and dandy, and would certainly affect my decision whether to buy it, but those are the biggest things for me.
Waiting for those official specs...

Please have a notification LED.
No buttons means we can't create a makeshift notification system a la BLN (which was absolutely genius by the way).
Even the SGS II cannot use BLN to it's fullest capacity as their devices require a wakelock to keep the keys on which destroys battery. BLN was just fortunate enough in all aspects (stability, reliability, battery) to be something that the Galaxy S line and the Nexus S could fully enjoy.
I probably wouldn't be using my Nexus S right now without BLN. I truly think an external indicator is THAT important. So please please please give us one.
I'm the opposite. I've had bln on all my device until the nexus s. Phones never leave my hand so I never used it. I would always disable it. Different strokes.
Sent from my Nexus S 4G via XDA Premium
I don't personally feel like I need a notification light, but it's one of those things that seems like it ought to be simple and cheap enough to include for those who do. I've been somewhat intrigued by how ongoing standby notifications in general- visual and aural- have been vanishing over the past couple years. I suppose it's because with smartphones these days they expect you'll be using the thing constantly anyway. >.>
Toshiba 5.1-inch prototype tablet eyes-on - http://tpt.to/a2gbSkJ - shared from Taptu
The Galaxy Note isn't quite right for me. It's a nice device, but I just don't like Samsung's ergonomic choices. Things like the volume rocker and camera position preclude using the device effectively in landscape, which is my preferred orientation.
The Iconia Smart is okay, but not much of a hardware upgrade from my trusty Spidey.
But this mystery Toshiba mini tablet looks promising! So far it's just a concept device with no plans for production, but I'm hoping that the Galaxy Note proves the viability of the 5" market segment.
Sent like a Streak of Light from Spidey, my Dell Streak 5
Well, it looks a lot better then Note and it should better fit the palm as it has different aspect ratio.
Very interesting device.
I'm curious n0p, what do you dislike about the Galaxy Note?
Sent like a Streak of Light from Spidey, my Dell Streak 5
I have the same problems with the note. I'm nearly a landscape-only user (which is why I love the streak) and just don't like that the Samsung Font is facing upwards then, the camera lens is covered by my hand, the buttons aren't in best position, etc. Of course this all is only a problem in landscape mode, but that's just the mode I like
Under these conditions, I'm really interested in the toshiba prototype. As n0p said, it seems to fit the palm quite good in landscape mode and maybe it could be a true successor to the streak
smnc, that's like...
OK, not to start the flame war
Design. It's cheap. I've seen black and white one and disliked both.
My hand is ok for streak, but not for note.
Unnatural display colors.
It's big, there're answer/hold buttons?
Dislike the centre button. What's it actually for?
Cannot see menu/back without backlight.
But fast.
Anyway not good for me.
Edit:
Almost forgot. Half price goes to marketing, even here, in third world country, I see a lot of commercials, ads and like, that makes it close to chewing gum in my opinion
The big center button is the home button, personally I prefer it that way, the back and menu buttons you can find by feel if you know where the home button is.
The S5 needs the leds on, though a raised home button would look terrible on the s5 because the note is designed as a portrait device and the s5 as a landscape device.
Goog's half-heartedly trying to standardize the buttons to "back" - "home" - "menu/alt-tab" and it kinda makes sense to me. There's a dozen or so combinations possible in the layout if you also include the optional search button. That and the menu button goes away in HC/ICS and becomes the 'alt-tab' button. Far too many combinations.
Would you prefer if they did what dell did and didnt spend any money on marketing?
Interesting. I don't have any problem with the way the Note looks, but I agree with the layout complaints. I much prefer the light up capacitive buttons on the Streak, as well as the feel of it in my hand, but my two big complaints are the volume rocker and camera placement. AFAIK, they're common to all Samsung phones, but they both make it impossible to use it in landscape mode.
Sent like a Streak of Light from Spidey, my Dell Streak 5
There's also the fact that if it's released with that 21:9 screen it's prob as wide as the galaxy nexus, anything that isnt 16:9 is rather uncommon and it being 5.1" is a bit misleading as that's the diagnal.
Same thing happened with 4:3 -> 16:9, diags are misleading unless they're both the same aspect ratio
Toshiba similar to Dell does not have a good history of making phones - most of them were not that good. I think Toshiba's 5.1 phone will end up similar to the Acer Iconia Smart/Dell Streak 5; a large screen device with minimal specs = not appealing to most users/small sales. At the moment, only the Note is worth the money you are throwing in a phone.
TheManii, that's what that button is for? Just kidding, i've played with Note enough.
And I feel ok having a unique device
Streak looks serious and sturdy, do like
And Streak has weight. Note doesn't.
--
Toshiba made some good WinMo phones, don't remember the exact model, but I think 1Ghz cpu first appeared in their phone.
--
Fingers crossed for this model go in production. Only hopes Quallcom won't be involved in this.
@Final5k
How does the Streak 5 not have good specs?
When it was released, the 1Ghz Snapdragon was the best processor available. Nothing was faster in a phone until the Optimus 2x, more than 6 months later. The screen and pixel density are good, 512mb of RAM is good. The only disapointing IMO is the mediocre camera and lackluster software support from Dell.
Sure the Streak is just kind of average now, but it's almost 2 years old.
Also, Toshiba might not have a stellar reputation for phones, but think of this as a small tablet instead. Toshiba has a long history in PC tablets, and the Thrive is a decent bit of work.
As for the Note, you've kind of made my point. It IS a phone. Just a big phone with a stylus.
I want a tablet.
Sure, I want voice capabilities, but if all I wanted was a powerful phone, I could get a SGS II or an HTC Sensation.

in the us the s5 came out around nov/dec and the desire hd came out in like dec/jan and tbat was the first s2 based device
the s5 was one of the final high end s1 devices released in the us, though its uk launch it was still relatively early in the s1 lifecycle
The Desire HD still has a single core 1Ghz Snapdragon though, AFAIK. The only notable improvement is the bump to Adreno 205, no?
My point is that the Streak wasn't horribly underpowered at release as some people seem to think.
Sent like a Streak of Light from Spidey, my Dell Streak 5
The bump to s2 was enough for them to warrent calling it the s2.
S1 to S3 isnt a massive archectural change, it's mainly the extra core and a clock bump. S4 is the first major change to snapdragons since they were released.
I dont think anyone called it underpowered due to the hardware, it was due to it still being on 1.6 which is definitely a lot slower then 2.2.
Being launched with S1 @ 1.6 is a hard sell when S2 and 2.3 were literally days away (i'm speaking again of the us launch, as i'm guessing many of us in the us wernt even aware of the s5 till the us launch)
Fair enough, I did mention Dell's "lackluster software support" earlier.
I was specifically responding to Final5k saying that the Streak 5 and Iconia Smart both having "not very good specs" compared to the Galaxy Note.
My original point was that the Note is brand new, built with current generation hardware specs, whereas the Streak is well over a year old, but was made with specs that were current and powerful at the time.
The Iconia Smart on the other hand is not really an upgrade from a Streak, despite being a year newer.

By the time it gets made and released, especially in the US, we will need a successor to the Note!

As for the Note, you've kind of made my point. It IS a phone. Just a big phone with a stylus.
I want a tablet.
Sure, I want voice capabilities, but if all I wanted was a powerful phone, I could get a SGS II or an HTC Sensation.

True, but I have yet to hear any details about it launching outside of China.
It is the TRUE successor, what with being made by the same folks who made the Streak 5 for us.
The LePad/IdeaPad S2005 sounds nearly perfect (although lacking the PDMI port).
Also, I'm not sure if I ever heard confirmation about it's phone capabilities.

I say it's the sucessor because Qisda made the S5/7/Venue
Qisda also made the S2005, it's got identical specs to the 'Opus One' if it ever was released (if dell really did release it, it'd prob just be a modified chassis and identical internals)
I believe it's designed closer to 'an oversized phone' then the streak's 'miniature tablet' (though some of us use it as an oversized phone anyway) and does everything the s5 does but with newer HW. Pretty sure it can do calls as it really doesnt make sense for something under 6.5" to not have at least one submodel that can.
The lacking of the dell 30 pin port is the biggest difference, weither or not that's a good or bad thing is up to how many accessories you have for it.
Unfortunately yea I dont know if it will launch outside china, depending on how much they grill their devs it might be like the S5/7/V and also lack driver support
Hardware wise I'm more tempted to get the S2005 then the Note, I dont really wanna pay that much more for ultimately just stylus support. Yes the note is likely a good deal faster but it's a good deal more expensive too.
Software wise I'd imagine the S2005 would be like the S10, as in no real support at all on xda. (I'm pretty much the only dev for it that isnt in china)
The One Plus Two is on the way... scheduled for 2015 Release...

What do you guys think about it?
Rumor has it that its gonna be "smaller" which would be a turn off for me. Hopefully the'll launch two versions instead e.g. OnePlus 2 & OnePlus 2 mini. Also i would rather have it come out later rather than sooner as i just got mine, and am waiting for my second one...lol
Yeah...I like the 5.5" device too. It's really sleek and not too bulky at all. I sure hope they don't get too much smaller.

Hopefully down to 5 - 5.2", that would certainly make it more manageable.
You've got to remember they probably have their biggest market in China, and typically phones like the xiomi which sell in bucket loads have a smaller screen. The Chinese population probably have smaller hands than westerners in general
If they make the phone like the form factor of the lg3 with the 5.5 inch then that would be great. In the meantime, I'm waiting for my one plus one phone to arrive

I wouldn't mind going down to 5.2-5.2". Actually, even if they make the phone a little smaller, but keep that 5.5" screen would be perfect. Let's keep in mind 5.5" phones like the LG3 and iPhone 6 Plus have same screen size, but they are not the same size overall. If the phone itself got a little smaller keeping that 5.5" screen, now that would be perfection. For me at least.

When did you order and how long did it take? I ordered Friday from Florida and status changed to processing yesterday am (Monday) and they officially charged my PayPal. Am I close? Tomorrow maybe? Wednesday...
I'd prefer a 5" with close to zero side bezel, keeping a big battery and high end chip set... No need for qhd displays, but front firing speakers and expandable storage would be a plus.. I know sapphire glass is expensive, but I'd pay more to have it..

I really love the OnePlus One's implementation of the 5.5" inch screen, they really got it right, I wouldn't change that on the Two. They can always offer a "Mini" version of the phone for those who prefer a smaller form factor, but it wouldn't be smart for them go back to reduce the screen, which is, IMO, one of the brighter spots of the device.

They are not able to produce the one in a greater quantity and speak about a two now lol

+1 to that man. Wow.

I hope this is what they'll do:
Same specs, but :
OnePlus 2 (5.5")
OnePlus 2 Mini (4.7 ~ 5.0")
Wish i could get the +1 first
If they come out with a smaller one without a 5.5, I'll have to go somewere else. I'm loving the big screen and can't go back...I'm also liking the custom roms that come with this phone also...

Shamu is coming, from what I hear screen can't get any bigger
5"
Coming form a nexus 5 I would not have an issue with them going to 5" which is plenty big for me.
