Good afternoon!
I was wondering if someone could give me a hand, or tell me if I did something wrong?
I rooted my Sprint SGT using SuperOneClick Sat. night, and noticed yesterday that a lot of my installed apps now do not show in Rosie. I know they're still installed, because they show and can be opened in appbrain, and the market. I didn't flash a ROM, and didn't install CWM, just left it stock after rooting.
I thought maybe I could just gain root access, and leave things "as is" for the same functionality I'm used to.
I'm not a TOTAL n00b to rooting/flashing in general (TONS of experience on my EVO) but pretty n00b with my SGT.
Any help provided would be greatly appreciated!!
THANKS IN ADVANCE!!

Hi all
Everyone wants to root his device, but why exactly are YOU rooting it? What is your motivation, from which feature do you gain something?
Please answer with specific apps which you are using and which do need root.
Thanks
Dominik
I had a Toshiba Folio 100 before (it was my first android device)... but because of very bad toshiba software I had to put a custom (rooted) rom on it two hours after I got the device at home...
In this case I used the root to tweak everything to make it work better and better, but also for Titanium backup...
When I got my second android device (the galaxy apollo), I rooted it, only for titanium backup, just to port some appdata from my folio to my apollo... I don't really need to tweak this device...
Now I have my transformer, I don't feel like rooting it... I have setup everything properly... The only reason why I would root it now is to install (again) titanium backup, and restore my Angry Birds data (Does any-one know a non-root way to do this )... I'm not gonna root this great device for that...
I rooted mine because I can, no kidding. Then I was able to take control of my tf. I deleted stuff from my system/data that was bloat using root explorer. Sometimes you need no reason to root but to be able to say...yea it's rooted..
Main reason I rooted my Android phone was to get rid of the stock HTC Sense, which IMO was quite bloated and slow. I put a custom ROM on and have a lot more free space, a HUGE improvement on battery life (I'm talking about a day extra) from the custom ROM and optimised kernel.
In the case of my Transformer, it is mainly rooted to take advantage of a custom kernel. With a custom, and appropriately optimised, kernel you can theoretically (and most importantly, in practice) improve the performance and/or battery life of your Android device through overclocking or underclocking respectively. I won't get into the nerdy details of the Linux kernel, but in a nutshell that's what is possible (among many other things) with an optimised kernel.
Apart from kernels I also rooted my device with the hope of Google eventually releasing the Honeycomb (Android 3.x) source code, so we can start to see some actual creativity from the more skilled members of the XDA community. I'm talking about custom ROMs that can totally change the way you experience your Android device. If you want an example, look up MIUI ROM and then compare it to stock Android ROM... of course this is with Android 2.x but this sort of variation and creativity is what we should look forward to (assuming Google eventually open up and stop being shy about their source).
Also not to mention the efforts of the people getting Ubuntu to work on the TF. This means you are able to run a full-blown desktop OS on your tablet alongside Android if you ever want to do more than what Android limits you to.
But really, you own the device so you choose what you want to do with it. If this type of stuff seems a bit over your head or you're pretty happy with a stock standard Honeycomb experience, then you never have to worry about rooting. But I say, get the most out of your device and root it
Any other questions, or if you don't understand some of the terms I used, ask me and I'll make sure to explain it better
The main reason for me is it lets you view and write to the /system and /data partitions. You can then install crap apps you don't like cluttering up your menus, and also transfer APKs you do like to other devices.
Also rooting and installing your own kernel is AFAIK the only way to allow ad-hoc wifi connections with your tablet. For some people with phones whose wifi tethering is based on ad-hoc, this is very important.
I just wanted to put patched host file to makse tf run faster
Its not bloated like sense
I had planned on rootin my TF first thing after taking it home.
It's almost a month now and haven't still rooted the thing. I have not needed doing it still... I tried and then unrooted and kept stock.
Regards.

I second this!!! Give me freedom on my computer!!! I buy android because I don't want somebody(steve jobs/bill gates) telling me what I can and can't do!!!
Titanium Backup for game saves.
The first thing I benefit of, and when it comes to rooting is adfree, and then of course titaniumbackup, rootexplorer.
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk
On phones, I root because I want to reove all the garbage that is installed there and to have Titanium backup and Cyanogen ROMS.
I have one TF that is rooted and running Prime and another that is stock and, so far, unrooted. For the TF, root is not as imperative as for the phones...
I see lots of instructions for "re-rooting" an updated a550, and other options, but I bought my a550 new a month or so ago, did not root, got the ICS update this weekend and would now like to root it so that I can use a few apps that require root (like the cisco anyconnect client).
I hate to look like a complete Noob, but with so much information floating around out there, much of it for folks who rooted first while on HC, I'm having a hard time finding the information I need. Would anyone else who might found this information be willing to share? Hopefully accepting ICS on a device that was never rooted before does not preclude rooting this thing. I really like the tablet but would like it even more if I could connect to the VPN at work, and that requires root.
Hey there.
If im not mistaken, Sounds like you did the same as me and did not root your tablet on HC and went ahead and installed the official ICS from acer.
I also did this then went ahead and rooted it by this method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1546593
Worked for me even though others in that thread were having trouble last time i checked mine worked first time.
Good Luck
Hey everyone.
Thanks for keeping such a great information forum. I had a evo a few years ago and everyone was a lot of help with rooting.
So I just get this s4. And I really don't want to pay for hot spotting. Would love to gain access to this. Anyone know how without rooting?
I've been looking into it for ago couple days now. Then I read about the Knox count. Really Don't want to lose my warranty really if I want I can go get another phone with sprints lease system if need but still.
Anyway. Are there any ways of getting that hot spot or teathr ability.
Are there any roots for the 4.3. I tried doing a autoloader and it failed.
No PIT partition it said. I still can't find out how to fix that or if I really should. Like I said. I'm glad now it didn't go tthru and ruin the Knox.
Any help links tips anything. Good things to look out for would be greatly appreciated.
Even if it takes me going anything nd getting a new phone again. Maybe the note 3? Can you root them for wife easier?
Thanks in advance
With this version of Pda Net (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.foxfi2) you should be able to do USB tethering and BT tethering without root. It will not do Wifi tethering, AFAIK, because of something in the stock rom.
As mentioned you can try PDA.net I've owned that for years but haven't had to use it on any of my recent Android devices yet. I root and use hotspod mods.
Read here to root without problems.
Then got to crawrj's thread and grab the hotspot mod. (If you are on stock choose the Odex version).
Since you're coming back to the forums I'm sure it would help you greatly if you spend some time and read through the how-to's and stickies.
Good luck.
Thanks guys. I have been trying to read thru every chance I get. Look forward to getting back in the loop.
Greetings!
I apologize for my first post being a request, but i have long benefited from the knowledge, creativity, and insights here at xda, and I am hopeful I can come here for some help with this as well. I just purchased a Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 10.1. It's incredible. Only glitch is, for some reason, the stock email app (which I like very much as it is "identical" to what's on my Samsung Galaxy S5) is only version 4.1, even after all the updates, and not version 4.4.2.0400 like on my SG5. My main gripe is I really want to be able to a) use the stock email app on my tab pro; b) to swipe away emails. It's this latter point that I'm trying to remedy.
My tab pro is NOT rooted, nor do I plan to root it. I've done some sleuthing online for a while here and found information about JAR files, etc., all of which is beyond my knowledge. I am hopeful it will be as simple as someone being able to pull the stock email apk file from the SG5 and posting it up so all I need to do is install the apk file over top of what is already on my tab pro. If someone can help me with this, so my tab pro stock email version is updated to 4.4.2.0400 and I have the ability to swipe away emails, it would be much appreciated.
Many thanks in advance!

Thanks for this reply. I have indeed found those very same sites you link to (my thanks, regardless). The reason I asked was to see if there was a way to get it on here without having to root. Apparently that is impossible, then?
I may do some reading on rooting, but I'm not interested in deleting everything and starting over again. I rooted my old moto droid years ago without issue, but I've become a bit intimidated by the front end process setup on the computer to get that set. I'm sure there is a super easy 1 click root option or something. I'll do some sleuthing, again, but I welcome any help.
Still learning, and glad to be here.
Thanks!

Fair enough. But to clarify, I don't need to root the S5 but the Galaxy Tab Pro 10.1 to get this app on. Not sure if there is an "easy" root method for that that would allow me to not delete everything and start fresh again.
I'm honestly quite puzzled why this, even with the 4.4.2 update, doesn't have the same email version. And I really wish I had the S5 calendar and email widgets not a part of the magazine ux on the tab pro. I'm aware rooting can give me all this, but I'm not sure it's worth the trouble, especially when I read up and see other people having collateral issues.
Thanks!

Sorry my bad, didn`t read the whole post and thought you meant the S5 . As said above you need root to install/alter system files.
I am trying to root my GS 5 and I only own a Mac (OSX 10.10.3). I am currently running Lollipop 5.0.
I want to root my phone to get rid of bloatware (TouchWiz and Sprint Apps), improve performance and battery life, and to have more control over what I do.
I have downloaded Heimdall. I tried to download Odin offline version and Goo is apparently shut down now and the Mega link I found did not work. I tried to use the online version and it will not work in Chrome, Firefox or Safari. I have checked to make sure that I have the most current version of Java installed.
I have also enabled Debug mode on the the phone.
I looked into One Click Root (oneclickroot.com) and it looks a little suspicious. I am not above paying for a root but I would rather not, if I could figure out how to do it for free.
I have done about 2-3 hours of researching before posting this question and have not found a solid answer.
I would appreciate any help that you gentleman and ladies could give to be able to root my phone.
Thank you!
