Since, apparently, tmo regulates tethering by sensing the browsers user agent setting, is there a method or plugin for Chrome or other desktop browsers to make them appear as an android browser?
Sent from my T-Mobile G6
I have no idea but I used pdanet and worked today. Couldn't get regular tether to work but it worked well enough for a little bit

easiest way for chrome is to append --useragent="Android" to the end of the shorcut command(right-click>properties>target) or in firefox just edit the string in about:config and filter for useragent should only be one or two entries
I've just bought a Galaxy tab, pretty enjoy it since i moved from HTC Desire. However, it pretty annoying when i access a webpage, the Tab's browser always go to Mobile webpage instead of default PC UI page.

Enter "about:useragent" in the address bar, and select the Desktop user agent.
It doesn't persist though, which is annoying!
Regards,
Dave
Also look at the foot of the web page concerned..... If it can go to Desktop you should see an option named 'Classic'. If so click on it to change from Mobile view to Desktop.
a former iphone zombie here, they had a sbsettings toggle called user agent faker... for android the equiv would be a toggle switch widget on the desktop?... not sure if its out there, been searching though. looking for a persistant toggle..

I can change the user agent, but seems not to be stored. if I enter again in "about:useragent", the "custom" option remains selected.
Or just download Dolphin HD browser, then in the browser,go to settings>Useragent and choose desktop instead of Mobile by default, worked great for me.
Dolphin HD browser + euro firmware did the trick for me.

Using Dolphin HD browser on US T-Mo, agent switched to Desktop and no luck - it would still go to mobile version. Same settings in the same browser on my EVO - no problem - always takes me to a full website. I hope there is some other solution. Otherwise it is very annoying not to be able to see full NY Times site...

Well! Too many of xda member faced this problem. But there is no such probbaly tweak to prevent the Tab access defaut webpage from it's stock browser.
Anybody has found a solution ? It's super annoying not to be able to see the "normal" websites given the form factor of the Tab...
Are you guys talking about the homepage? Or the fact that the stock browser reverts to mobile user agent upon closing? The stock browser will not save user agent settings after being closed. Download a new broswer. Don't rely on stock.

The thing is... why should you have to download a different browser just to be able to view web sites in desktop mode ~ and even then different browsers don't necessarily give you a desktop view.
As an example I have Dolphin HD installed and if you attempt to access either ITVPlayer or the BBC web site you get the mobile version.
sadly, you need to re-do the about:useragent everytime you completely close the browser. Also, on stock UK firmwares (Even JJ7) iPlayer doesn't work even with desktop mode selected. Need to be on JM6 or JMA for the fixed browser.

It will Jackie... Providing as stated above you are on a later ROM.
For those however on the stock ROM it does not work.

It works on JM6 ? OK, good to know
Try skyfire.
It works for mine (T-Mobile US version)
if you wants normal desktop browsing try Miren Browser and in the options set the Desktop version( or the ipad version, it works)
however,
some sites (like megavideo) will go further than a User Agent and try to guess if you are really on a desktop or not, to redirect you to some annoying ads and jo-games.com
if you want to avoid that use NetFront Live Browser, it's the best low level changer browser for android so far, you won't be dissapointed and its kind of tablet optimized.

In your "Web Browser" I'm Pretty Sure if you Select Menu/Settings... Then Uncheck the Mobile View Box, It Should Enable the Desktop View until its Rechecked!!

Skyfire browser has an option on the main screen. Makes switching really easy. Works well if you are willing to try a different browser or just use like I do and only use skyfire when you want to run the full website.
Thanks. I kinda wanted to know this too.
Now to find out how to disable flash to make sites load faster, and to lessen that damned scroll lag. >.>
nothing beats the speed of 2.1 broswer. :/

In the browser that comes with the phone i see no option to uncheck the mobile site. I too am annoyed by these stupid mobile sites. As if they were designed for blackberrys or something else crappy.

Use Dolphin browser, it asked you during installation if you would like to view the mobile sites or desktop.
There is also a plug in for dolphim broeser hd that, toggles between mobile and desktop views. Works pretty good, sometimed have to restart the browser, not often.

Opera does this as well
can't you go to about:useragent on any browser and change it?
I am not interested in switching browsers. I dont have a mobile view switch in settings and i dont have about:user agent. I'll attempt to locate the article which said all androids can be switched to full view instead of mobile.

You do have user agent string in your browser. This should work on all webkit based browsers. I had read about this a long time ago, and with a single google search this came up.
http://lifehacker.com/#!5547037/change-the-user-agent-on-an-android-phone
The useragent string may or may not work depending on which ROM you are running. Back when I had stock eclair jfd I tried the user agent trick and all that did was crash my browser. Even rebooting wouldn't fix it, I had to factory reset
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7313019&postcount=5
I have froyo.ka6 and haven't tried it again, nor am I interested in trying it again since I have both Miren and Dolphin HD (both of which allow toggling of user agent AND have flash support).
I don't use stock browser anymore. Everyone says it's the fastest but I can't see any speed difference opening same sites with Dolphin HD or Miren...maybe in benchmarks you will see a few milliseconds?
Correct, i do have access to additional settings with about:command but don' have access to UAString which is needed to switch settings. Anyway the more i read about the subject, i found it was only temporary - per browser session. That is a waste of my time so i am moving along. i have eugenes froyo 2.2
If you want full vs mobile websites you definitely need to try another browser. You have lots of choices. Since you're running froyo you don't need the skyfire video capabilities 2.2 has flash video built-in.
Best free browsers for froyo (IMO)
Miren
Dolphin Mini
Dolphin HD (ad supported)
Opera Mobile 10 beta is ok but slower
Firefox is slowest but still in beta
Proxy browsers: (I don't like proxy browsers)
Skyfire
Opera Mini
Fastest for rendering / navigation are Dolphin HD and Miren.
There are a few others out there (xScope, Maxthon, UCWEB, Infinity).
All I can say is try them all decide which you like best - All have their pros and cons but they are all better than stock.
So I have a reddit app, but sometimes I like to browse the actual website ( I have my reasons )... But when I click on a link it will randomly ask if I want to open the link with my reddit app or the browser. I click browser and check the option that says "always open with browser" which is great, except that a second later it asks me the same question after clicking on a link. Just taking a shot here wondering if anyone knows how to fix this. Very annoying after a while. Unrooted here.
Check your settings privacy yet? Maybe your settings is keeping it from doing what you want like accepting cookies or form data etc. What browser are you using?

I wish I could still use ad blocking but I started to notice on a few web sites I frequent, the back button would not go back to the previous page and the current page would just reload. I noticed this on my GS3 and the One. Took me a while to figure out it was ad blocking that was interfering with the proper loading and back function of these web sites for some reason. I don't have any such problems on my desktop PC, presumably because the ad blocking usually works differently on a PC. On mobile phones, it's usually just a freaking huge host file that black holes known ad urls to 127.0.0.1 or equivalent.

Might wanna try adblock plus, it works differently I guess, I indeed noticed some websites not working properly when using adfree or adaway or through the host file .. weird thing is I don't remember that on my jailbroken IPhone or GS3/Galaxy Nexus ..

You probably don't remember it because it only happens on some sites. Just so happens some sites I frequented had the back button problem, I don't remember the specific ones. Maybe huffpo.com or something like that.
I will try Adblock Plus, thanks for the suggestion. I use it with Firefox on my PC and I love it.
Adaway. Installs as an .apk, and works in the background. Even updates in the background.
Ad-Block plus requires that an icon be in the Notification area, which I don't like.

It can be hidden, and in apps menu notifications can be disabled, this used to be an issue in the early builds.
Adfree android works well, plus it's the only one to work on android 4.3. As for the back button, I always found pressing the back button twice worked for me.

Interesting, I had no idea the back button problem was caused by my ad blocker. I just thought the websites have really stupid developers. I wonder if they do this on purpose to punish users of ad blockers...
Still worth it to me. I haven't seen an online ad in years, besides the odd one that slips through

Tried all three (Adfree, Adaway and Mother of all Adblock). Found Adfree gives best zapping of ads, has the largest hostfile size (more ad & tracker sites blocked) and has the most personalised white/blacklist. Why am I on the HTC 1 thread? Researching to shift from the XZ to the HTC1 dual-sim or the Butterfly S.
Dead Cookies leave mo trails...
AdAway, for the web.
If I really like a app I buy the donate/pro version so I can support development.
Using a host file with rom but I also have that website problem on websites like Engadget. But I just press back multiple times... the real issue is that I can't access websites through the slick deals app because clicking them just takes to a 404.
Not sure if there's a fix for this but I'm thinking of getting rid of the adblock

Adaway since first day and working like a charm
Been using Adblock plus and are very happy with it. Have some problems in a few News apps, but I'll guess it's ok.
Aren't apps like adaway etc blocked from the play store? How are you finding the apps?
Yes, these apps were available @ Play Store but Google removed them.
You can search for them on the net, download the apk file and then install it on your device.

Have been using Adaway for a couple of weeks ....Seemless :fingers-crossed:
Workaround for the page reloading issue when hitting back button is to enable webserver and set it on boot.

Some roms like android revolution use the host file from them. The option is there when you are flashing in recovery.
