I ran across this, not exactly sure where, but it's sick man:
http://pocketshield.netserver01.com/
It should be perfectly compatible with the HD because it does indeed have an ambient light sensor and obviously an accelerometer.
Check out the videos:
http://pocketshield.netserver01.com/demo.aspx
It's pretty damn nice.
I think it will make a great add-on to a beautiful phone, it does cost $10.90, but as far as I can tell it's well worth it.
Give it look!
On the Touch HD you now have to slide to pick up the phone. So I really don't see why we should use this app. It will be handy for the Diamond or Pro.

But what about announcements? Fpr example SMS alert, notification alert etc.. Do you have to slide also to unlock the Device in those cases?
Hi!
I'm still struggeling to find the right way to lock the phone. The ideal solution would be to:
1) Have the phone unlocked when I switch it on with the Power button (so that I can immediately use it after deliberately turning it on)
2) Have the phone automatically locked when it wakes up due to a phone call, SMS or warning, etc. (so that I don't press anything by accident when it is in my pocket).
This seems to be the only really logical way to use device lock. Obviously, PocketShield can not do that, neither can S2Us or any other locking app I've tried...
Regards!
I had it installed, but removed it quite quickly again. For some reason, it did not suit me. I did not see any use of the lightsensor and shaking it to unlock was impossible...
All it added for me was a slide to unlock, for which there are other progs. It also replaceed the default slide to anwser, without enabling it myself...
I am sticking with the default lock or the s2u prog...

As a matter of interest, where in the manual is that documented.
I tried a search but could not find it.

Try this for locking the Phone correctly.....

A new version 2.5 with lots of improvements is available http://www.pocketshield.net/phorum/read.php?1,1224
Hell yeah, S2U2 is cool, because it's as an iPhone, but it's laggy and it cost too much battery even HTC closed...
So, as i appreciate the way to unlock it, i found this program : http://www.throttlelauncher.com/downloads/files/ThrottleLock0.4.CAB
It's more than a simply unlocker, as you can create a pattern which look like a password, but you also can simply define as pattern the 3 downs buttons from left to right, and it's like S2U, without lag (and yeah without the iPhone trademark ) !
Here are some screenshot : http://www.throttlelauncher.com/portal/downloads/34-public-releases/87-throttle-lock-04
Enjoy it
I'd be interested in anyone's opinion on this.
I like S2U2, I don't find it drains my battery too much, I like the extra info it displays about next appointments and tasks etc.
Does this locking system show that kind of information too?

Tried it,very nice and cool looking, but unfortunately it wil unlock itself by an incoming call.
Ha ha, doesn't that make it kinda pointless? Many of us will want a lock so that when a call comes in, it doesn't accidentally unlock...
Does a text message unlock it to? Does turning it on unlock it?
I only use S2A2 for the Full Screen caller Option and Trotllelock for a manual devicelock (added to my start up list).
@AndyCr15 : luckyuser means that sometimes Trotllelock unlock itself (Bug). Normally you must wipe with your finger from up to bottom to answer a call. I'll use only the device lock option. Not the answer unlock option. So i'll have the best options from both apps.

Yean it's unlock when a call, but HTC got the protection as you have to put your finger on the virutal block and move it to the left to answer and move to the right to ignore... so it's not a problem, it's an advantage that it's unlocked automatically...

The only programm who can fix that problem to is PocketShield.
Tried this app also, but I had to often gesture problems by shaking the phone! The device didn't react and awake properly for normal use!
i lock my phone by pressing and holding the "down reciever" icon. I thought that i could do that and this app would activate but it doesnt.
It's simple, S2U 1.37 corrects the advantage that thortlelock had... let's go back to S2U2 1.37
See you

I use it too. Shaking does not work that good, so I only use it with finger slide. Works really good. The application is not free though, but €7 is not that much for lifetime upgrades and a lock application that does what it promises
Let's be clear, the application does not unlock itself; it merely (like S2U2) allows you to answer or ignore the call. After the call is completed the phone remains locked.
I have used both and chose throttlelock over S2U2 because of the lack of battery drain, the fact that I can mute an incoming call and that the security on throttlelock is (mildly) better than on S2U2. The other thing to mention is that there are options within throttlelock to disable the 'hard keys' if you choose.
Personally, I will continue to use throttlelock (or an alternative like Pocketshield when it becomes fully HD compatible) until some of the issues with S2U2 are fixed. These are still apparent in the latest ver 1.37.
Just my opinion
Mav.
Pocket shield is the best. I love it's option to auto-unlock with light sensor, and in the dark I just slide my finger on the screen It's also great that it can disable the hardware buttons when locked so no more problem with incidental pressing them while taking the phone out of my pocket I am very happy with this program, esspecially since it has no battery-drain issue like s2u2. The only thing that bothers me is why the h*... htc did'nt implement something like that in TF3d?! ...that, and group sms solution... and a few other things... sorry for the of topic in the end,

We'll see....I used to use S2U2 on my Kaiser but haven't bothered putting on for the last couple of months due to excessive ROM flashing - on my Touch PRO, I found that "TouchLockPro" was a brilliant alternative to S2U2 as it allows you to take advantage of the capacitive touch functionality on the Touch Pro. Have a read here for all the details.

Hey all,
One thing I've always wanted on android is the ability to slide-unlock, THEN to enter pattern/passcode/whatever.
Is there any way to do this? I found no way to do it in CM6. I'm now running MIUI and there's no way in this ROM either.
Is there some hack or software out there that will do this that I don't know of?
Have you tried downloading Widget locker from the market? That seems to be the most popular lockscreen replacement
No, there's no trial and I can't buy stuff off the market anyways. Does this allow for unlock->pass unlock?
From the screenshots it looks like it may.

just curios why do you want to unlock your phone twice?? ocd?
Haha no, I just like having a password on my phone and the lock screen with pattern lock is fugly. I don't want to see big dots all over my screen. I was able to fix this with CM6 by making it all invisible.
I sort of want it how the iphone does it, or how my buddies android 1.6 phone does it.

I actually really miss this function from my G1. Haha. I don't like the invisible buttons because it just makes the screen look absolutely empty. I would love a Unlock -> Password option.
Uhm, am I missing something or isn't that how it works by default? When I have a password or pin setup, and go to unlock my phone, I get the unlock screen. Once I've swiped to unlock, then I get the password/pin prompt. The only time it doesn't behave like that is when a pattern-unlock is being used.

Yep, I was. Makes no sense why you can't have this for pattern unlock as well!
I can't understand why anyone would want that!
It's one of the main reasons I don't like HTC sense roms - you can't get rid of the stupid unlock slider even when you have the pattern unlock enabled.
Why would I want to unlock it twice?!?
I want it because I frequently look at my phone for the time or for other various locked-screen uses, and it's aesthetically displeasing to look at it with the big bubbles all over the screen. Not to mention you lose the ability to slide to vibrate and that sorta stuff you get normally by default.
If you can't get WidgetLocker, try Simply Lockscreen. WidgetLocker looks way better, same with GoTo (but both are paid).
mine now doesn't have a bar going across or something to drag down like iphone/htc sense - the whole image moves instead? seems very weird and would like to change it if i can?
i can't see an option to though. would prefer an pure android type of unlock method (with a custom wallpaper though). can i do this without rooting? want to leave that for a week or 2 to get used to the phone 1st
ta all
Look on the market .

And look for what? I cant find anything useful, like stock lockscreen.
Anyway, i think you need an update.zip for things like that.

i do have 'goto my lockscreen' or whatever it's called but a lot of these alternate apps have a major problem (or 2) in that they interfere with bluetooth and wake up on any button press.
that's not really useful

2. Win!
3. ???

I use 'ripple lock' which is a honeycomb'esqe unlock screen.
It is good but relatively new so there is room for improvement. however, the developer updates it regularly!

Widgetlocker is very configureable and you can tell it to stop waking on certain button presses. I am currently using it here and it is pretty awesome.

Edite widget locker settings, if i'm not mistaking you can disable hardware buttons unlock
ta, but i already unticked everything i could under buttons and inputs but vol down e.g brings the unlock screen up when it should do nothing
think it's a limitation of android and can't really 'replace' the real lockscreen as such. maybe a version that requires root will do it, who knows.
at the very least this will cause battery rundown.
You are right. I missed your point. I was talking about unlocking. Device wakes up when you press the hardware buttons, but will not unlock with the settings i was talking about.
i missed that part of yours too.
ta for the help mate
When I'm streaming movies from Amazon, the soft buttons on the bottom of the screen constantly stay lit. Does everyone else's do this? Is there a way to turn the lights off?
I guess the Amazon app for videos does not have the necessary code to do that... it's a problem with the app....

I'm not using an app. I'm using Boat Browser to go to the site. I even went back to stock and relocked to see if that may be affecting it. No change. And I notice they never go off even if I'm doing nothing but looking at the homescreen. Do yours go off?
Well, the Nexus 10 Guidebook answered one question. They are supposed to go off like I thought.
After a short time without getting used, these buttons may shrink to dots or fade away, depending on the current app. To bring them back, double-tap in their approximate location.

And like I said before, they don't go off even when not using an app and sitting at the homescreen.
Can't anyone answer a simple question? Do your navigation button lights stay on or go off?
Someone told me their lights stayed on except when using Netflix. I signed up for a Netflix trial just to test it. They go off when viewing a Netflix movie. I guess mine is normal, just not normal to what I'm used to.

Homescreen - they stay on as long as the screen is on.
They don't "go off" ever since they're part of the UI. The only time they change is when they fade to small dots instead of icons, whenever certain apps are trying to go full-screen, although it's pseudo-fullscreen since the dots remain to show you where the home button is should you require it.

No, I've never really thought about it. It could be magic for all I know. I just know they will go off on my phone while the rest of the screen stays on.
The buttons are on the screen. They are not like the ones on your phone.
